Thank you to everyone who has helped me get to 8K Subscribers! I appreciate each and everyone one of yall! Elijah Craig C923 Has been a bottle most have been after since it was awarded bottle of the year in 2023. There maybe some speculation to why. Michelle is a very in tune with the bourbon market and claims to know the answer!
Thank you for tagging along. If anybody is curious the laser code on the back started with A23. I have both A23 and A22 now so maybe there is difference??

Could sit here all day and listen to this woman talk super knowledgeable…great hunt!
Thank you for watching! You can tell when someone is passionate!
You’re welcome
Yeah man get her back on soon …
She was great! Awesome video as always.
Thanks for the compliments everyone and THANK YOU HUNTER for allowing me to share my passion. I owe you when you're back in town. You've got my number.
Michelle you really added value to this content. You stated that you have a social media presence where you comment on bourbon. I think many here would be interested in listening to that content. Please share where we can find that and thanks again for the great insight you provided.
I could listen to that lady speak all day about bourbon. It's nice when you have a store owner or employee who really cares about not just selling bottles, but about comparing notes and providing some education on the way. Great to see you pick up a bottles there after all of the time she spent with you. Another great video!
Absolutely!
I was thinking the same thing. Need more videos of her on RUclips
Bro you are killing it with these videos! Your videos BY FAR surpass anyone else doing this because you are actually talking about the bottles and not just doing a quick fly by with prices. Love learning about the different bottles and LOVED your guests for this video. Keep bringing it, great content bro.
Thank you bro! 🤙🏼🥃 Lots of hard work but its fun to showcase small business!
Love the hunting videos. You and brewzle definitely at the top of the pack for best bourbon hunting videos on youtube
Even being mentioned in the convo is an honor thank you! 🥃🤙🏼
Agreed. The videos keep getting better and better @Bourbonhunter. Awesome that you and your grandad have a shared passion in bourbon!
Agree with this comment!
She is so cool! I have added this store to my must visit list! Thanks for sharing!
You are so welcome!
Great video. It is nice to hear from a store owner who is knowledgeable and believes in keeping things affordable.
Thanks for watching! 🥃
Barrell strength Penelope is great imo !!! It’s a stronger flavor for sure but I love it
I totally agree!
I could definitely enjoy an evening sipping bourbon and learning things from Mrs Robinson.
🤙🏼🥃
Love hearing from people who are passionate and actually know what theyre talking about. Great vid thx
Thank you! 🥃
What nice store owners to go into such detail with you! Much appreciated! Oh - and Larceny C923 is great. I had to buy a back-up as well.
.... Look at you - getting a discount (at the end)!!! Nice.
Shhhshhhhh ;)
I enjoy Penelope mainly the toasted and the barrel strength offerings. The 9 year is my favorite from them as of now. I tried the architect and wasn’t a fan.
Bullet 10 is pretty amazing
Hope you enjoy the c923. Its definitely the best ecbp I've ever had. Awesome video man, keep up the great work!
I just had a pour of it and I think it's really good but B520 def has it beat in my opinion.
Thanks! Will do!
I have had ECBP B517 (whisky advocate WOTY winner), C920, and the C923. ECBP isn't really my jam, but I have to say the C923 was the best.
I was able to pick up an Old Forester 100 Proof Single Barrel and an Old Forester Cask Strength for $185. All in all it was a pretty good deal and I was able to taste them before buying the bottles.
Thats the best way to buy single barrels! Great stuff! Cheers! 🥃
@@Bourbon_Hunter I got the Old Forester 1924, but the price was kinda high. I paid $120 for the bottle.
I wish I had a store like the second place you visited. The lady really knew her stuff and wasn’t a whisky snob which is rare in my experience. If I’m ever in the area definitely a store I will visit.
I have 2 bottles of the Old Forrester Signature Bourbon that you picked up in the beginning of the video. I live in Northern Virginia. It's on sale until August 31 for $25.99
Have to correct one thing here. From the VP of Product: “Each batch of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof will have its own unique taste profile and proof, as in years past, and now a unique age statement that will retain the extra-aged characteristic the brand is known for”
ECBP isn’t 12 years anymore simply because they will release what they think is good and not just hit an age statement. It’s also a batch product and the age statement has to represent the youngest thing in the blend. C923 is NOT the last batch over 12 years.
What she did get right is about the Small Batch. It used to carry a 12 year age statement and now is a blend of 8-12 year.
Never say never lol. I will agree they didn't technically "run out" of 12 year juice overall otherwise they would have removed the age statement completely or discontinued ECBP altogether. I believe they do want to save some of the older stuff for premium higher aged products i.e. Heaven Hill 17, 18, etc. Having said that I do believe they will slowly start to lower the age statements on most ECBP batches and then 12yr will be the new "high age" batch (cue the "remember when these were always 12 yrs old?"). If someone thinks we will see a 13,14 or 15 year aged batch of ECBP every year (once a year) then your hopes and dreams might be crushed soon lol.
Loved the vid, Hunter, but raised some questions. As someone who can't get squat out here in Texas, how would you rate the ECBP vs the Peerless Double Oaked Rye vs the Lux Tow vs the Bardstown black label Bottle in bond you mentioned earlier in the vid? For that matter, what was the best tasting score you found? Thx!
The best bang for your buck bottle I found last year is the $49.99 BardsTown Black Labeled Bottled in bond. Its easily a shelf staple of mine now and shouldn’t be too hard to find. The EC C923 is great but the proof point for most folks maybe a little much. The Lux Row is unique because its a single barrel product so ive just really aligned well with the flavors in my single barrel. If I was you i’d track down the bardstown black label bottled in bond! Cheers! 🥃
That Kentucky Hand Barrel bottle is clear on the bottom, so you can see the color of it. The white bottle is pretty good.
That woman is a whiskey GEM! She was the best find on the whole hunt! Keep in up Hunter!
I love the main offerings of Redwood Empire, especially Lost Monarch. It is creeping up in my area to $42 but haven't come across their higher proof stuff just yet.
The lost monarch is my staple! Cheers! 🥃
@@Bourbon_Hunter What is the funk!? I know it's a bourye but out of the 3 it's my least favorite
Pretty sure there will continue to be ECBP releases 12yr and over. Just not every one. Don’t expect them to get younger across the board. Likely similar to last year with one younger and one older. Gives them more blending opportunity and the ability to elevate some releases like C923. The 12yr age statement was removed from the small batch back in 2016.
Im interested to see if she is right or if your theory is correct. Only time will tell! Thank you for watching! 🥃
@@Bourbon_Hunter I wouldn’t call it my theory. Much of whiskey tube has said similar.
Age isn’t the only thing making C923 great though. It’s just spectacular whisky. I hope that other batches are as great.
A124 is coming in at a whopping 10yr 9mo!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@cheesecheese8240 I expect a pattern to form that the earlier batches come in at lower ages so they can save their older releases for allocation season. 10yr 9mo is still pretty decent when you consider that most four roses single barrel barrel proof are around that or younger. And people lose their minds for those.
Not a huge flavored whiskey fan, but Magic Rabbit turned out to be better than I expected. It was a Brewzle recommendation.
Nice!
Crazy how prices vary by states/area, OC/LA has roughly all of these bottles too but for at least $20-$30 more than those prices and don’t get me started on things like Weller, blantons, Eagle rare, Etc
I want to get you started tho. Tell me more is weller special reserve something like 100 bucks?
@@Bourbon_Hunter yeah special reserve is roughly $80-90 but things like full proof and antique I see around $300 I seen one or two store with it at $899 💀 and stagg usually around $200-$300
Thats horriableeee what state are you in?
@@Bourbon_Hunter California, I live near Disney and work in LA and see these prices all the time, hard to find good stores with decent prices only ones are BevMo/total wine which are hard to find anything since it’s so random
@@Bourbon_Hunterin Ohio we pay $26 for weller special reserve
Great video, really enjoyed both stores. The second store owner was really knowledgeable, I'll have to try a Bulleit 10 I guess.
She convinced me I got a bottle last week 😂
I have a Yellowstone 115pr store pick and it was so good I've been back for 2 more. I'm on my 3rd bottle now. And it's more enticing than Stagg, JD12, Smoke Wagon UCUF, Blantons (which is easy to beat anyways), and many other sought after bottles. I think you did well choosing the Yellowstone. Hope it's good!
Penelope is good. Not everything, but a good amount of their stuff. The architect ive had a couple i didnt like, but build 5 or 6 was really good, the store picks ive tried are really good. The toasted barrel proof picks are really good. The private select 9yr is phenomenal.
Another awesome video Hunter, it was great to see your Grandfather hunting with you ❤. Why you hating on Penelope??? Get the 9 year and you tell me it isn't a true banger. It blinded so well in many online reviews and was in bourbon of year lists. You got to try it
I’ll have to just try some of your Penelope and burn a stick 😶🌫️🤷🏻♂️
I just bought my first bottle of bookers the other day. It was around $90 in NC. It's become a favorite of mine already
Nice!!!
I absolutely agree with her testimony on Kentucky Limestone water. I’m a scientist by trade and saw some merit to the molecular similarity, but thought it wouldn’t be noticeable enough with only a couple drops. It absolutely does make a difference. To me, it doesn’t dilute the flavors like distilled water. The limestone water stratifies and separates flavors better. Dont knock it til you try it, I’m a believer!
Interesting! Can we do some science together? (Make crazy whiskey concoctions ) 😂
That soft red wheat is crazy good, only one total wine in cali has it I couldn’t find it anywhere else
Yes 🎉 Elijah Craig barrel proof!
Wow she is really knowledgeable and a salesman.
Usually SC stinks as far as getting good Bourbons. Especially allocated. I normally drive down to GA for decent picks. Helps that I'm at Exit 1 on I-85!
My 2022 Yellowstone pick was a 115 proof. Looking over my notes, I have it at a 6/10. The biggest takeaway was "the finish seems like I chewed an entire pack of Big Red gum."
Oh my goodness! I hope this 119 is better 😂
@@Bourbon_Hunter Unless you like Big Red gum... lol!!
Love that I can see the prices as you pan around. Now I know I get some good or at least fair pricing at one of my favorite places in Maryland.
I appreciate you watching!
I have a 115 proof Yellowstone store pick and it’s currently my favorite bottle I own. It’s fantastic!
How do you enjoy it ? Neat or with coke and ice ?
You're gonna love that 119 Yellowstone. I can't believe how many store picks that place had!😮
They had tons! Thanks for watching buddy!
Sam trying to get you drunk at 9am too lol, he did us. And Heritage Liquor is our favorite store, Michelle is the best ❤
Two of my favorite stops recently!
You can always appreciate a store owner willing to sell spirits at msrp i look down on store that jack up prices
Those were two awesome stores! They both had some killer bottles in them and both would have hurt my wallet! Love it when I find someone who loves to talk bourbon working/owning a store. That is always a great time! Thanks for another amazing video Hunter! 🥃
Thank you Panda! 🤙🏼🥃
Great info on the C923. You may want to put out an abbreviated clip of that information with a related title. Doubt a large percentage made it to the end for this information.
I hope they watched the entire thing 🥲. You’re right maybe i’ll drop a clip later
@@Bourbon_Hunter sent it out to my group and tagged your link to drive awareness. Not on RUclips, but through IG and local groups.
Panned too fast, did not catch the info
Gotta come up to NC brotha. Walked into my local ABC last week and saw a ton of Blantons and OF1924. Turned around a saw a GTS sitting behind the counter. Nearly fainted 🤣
I would have sht a brick. I thought it was ABC controlled?
@@Bourbon_Hunter it is, that’s why it was only $125 🥹
Loved your grandfather, great guy, enjoy your time with him, if my grandfather or father were still here id slip with them as much as I can. Great video as always bro
I agree and will do! 🥃
That Elijah Single Barrel 18yo i would have grabbed with both hands !! Great video as usual 😎🥃
Love the hunting videos.
Funny about the Yellowstone Hand Picked as all I ever see are high proof. Took me over a year to find a low proof.
Wow , Michelle is awesome. Love the passion and knowledge.
Thank you for watching! Cheers!
My Penelope experience. Architect - pass (not for me), Toasted Barrel Strength - not bad, Valencia - good summer time on the rocks bourbon, 9 year - very good (best Penelope I have had and maybe the best MGP that is not finished all year.). The Pinhook 8 vertical series is also good if you like MGP juice.
Interesting!
I got the Soft Red Wheat Rickhouse and love it. I'm really digging the Sagamore Rye DO.
"If you're impressed by this Old Forester 100, you'll be blown away by this equally rare small batch expression of Elijah Craig." 🤣
Fun story. Even if they say they use lime stone water they put it through the reverse osmosis process so basically just use RO water and you’re good. Save your money
Old elk is mgp, but its not like they pick mgp barrels. The products/mashbill are specific for old elk. Not a huge fan of them, but they do have some good stuff. The ryes are pretty good. Especially the wheat rye.
I do alot of business with O'Darbys and they are great people to deal with. Big Fan of your videos.
Glad you like them! Thank you!
Anything Russell's is amazing.. currently my favorite is the Russell Single Barrel bourbon it is absolutely amazing ideal whiskey!!!😋
Wild Turkey doesnt miss!!
@Bourbon_Hunter you're right about that brother!!
This video did not feel 35 minutes long! So much interesting conversation and so much to learn!
Thank you for watching bro!
That Lady Store Owner is Awesome
I agree! 🥃
Wow. That Bulleit 10 is $55 Canadian here. Another one to try. Thanks!
Right on!
Cool man!@@Bourbon_Hunter
Thanks for the heads up about Darby’s. I got off early and drove over signed up for the club and picked up a bottle of peerless double oaked.
Good stuff! 🫡 I hope you enjoy! Its a great bottle!
“I think everyone should be able to drink very good bourbon for a good price” what a babe
😂
Picked up that Hollady soft red wheat. Nice
Its a very good bottle! Have you seen the cask strength?
I just bought the cask strength in TN near Knoxville on the way back from KY. Haven't cracked it yet. Love the reg BIB. Saw the reg soft red wheat on the shelf and he said he had the barrel proof for the same price. Sold! Reg one is still sitting there.@@Bourbon_Hunter
Great pickup with the EC C923. It's an amazing pour--hopefully youve already had a chance to enjoy!
I have trust me! Its a great pour!
love it when youtubers bring there father or grandfather in the videos.
Thank you!
Missed out on that magic rabbit I’ve been looking all over for it
still haven't seen a bottle of Elijah Craig Single Barrel C923 in my area (Long Island/NYC)...... ARGH!!!
Its AMAZING!!! 🥃Best of luck to find it!
I don't care for Penelope but the Penelope Rio is pretty darn good😅
Bardstown, I'm a big fan. The Foursquare is very good. It's a great blend. They did 2 beer bourbon aged blends. I did not like the KBS, not at all. The Goose Island is really good. That being said, dont buy them if you don't like the beers.
If you are near and want a great pour, that Huling Station 8 year is a banger! Its a custom mash bill for Old Dominick from MGP. Those at that age are long gone here in TN. 44% rye! Also the Old Ezra 7's are Heaven hill distilled, so the Rye would be at 51%. Both are VERY good!
Oh I did not know that! Ive sampled 1 huling station and it was alright but I may have to seek out another!
Nice find on that EC923
Thank you!
The senator store pick is wild! I got to get me one of those!
Just snagged the Lux Row double single barrel last week, looks like a good one. It makes you wonder if taking the 12 year off the Elijah Craig will effect the 18 year down the road?
I hope not! Thank you for watching!
I think ill go to this store this weekend i want a willett bad. Always wanted to try it
Time to stop the Penelope hate!! 😂😂
Neverrrrr
Penelope is good, I do enjoy trying different finished bourbon. Love your typical flavors, but there are some good bourbons finished out there like Penelope.
The barrel strength 9 year is really good.
Hates Penelope, but likes Rabbit Hole
🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
@@Bourbon_Hunterdon’t stop! They’re blah .
Hey from Kentucky. Really enjoy your videos. That lady at the end has a great store. I will visit it in the spring. Some really good prices. Keep the content coming!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Found the Disco 11 this week, lives up to the hype. 9 year Penelope was good, the rest is garbage. Uncle Nearest should not sit on any table. And barrel strength Bernheim is impossible to find many places.
Kudos to that young lady. Great selection but what I'm impressed with the most are the honest pricing. I've been trying to find a bottle of the Elijah Craig C923 locally and online for months now. If not sold out I've seen them for $300-400. Not willing to do that. But I appreciate what she is doing. If I'm ever in that area I will have to stop by. Nice channel btw.
Don’t let the Smooth haters get you down. Continue to be the Colossus of Smooth!
Smooooooooooooth
I'm in love with this lady. Skilled !!!!
Hey ya'll , I'm not really educated on the whole 'CAST" and "Full Proof" strengths. Can you guys tell me what's the difference and does it affect taste at all?? and better yet I like my whiskey's on the sweeter fruitier side but a lil bite never hurt. Thanks
The Widow Jane Lucky 13 for $220 is outrageous
Yea she was talking real proud about being fair yet Bookers is $120.
This woman needs her a channel.
Revival Rye from High Wire is great.
Great video! Been wanting to try the ODarby’s in Landrum and now I guess I’m going to Simpsonville too.
Go for it! Both are great stores! 🥃 Thank you for watching!
Good video! O’Darby’s does have good store picks and wide selection of all kinds of liquor. I go to the one in Landrum more than Taylors, only because I live closer to that one.
Nice! Ive been really impressed with the store picks they let me try while there! Thank you for watching 🥃
That redwood empire CS pipe dream is outstanding
7 star on Folly Rd has the Yellowstone 119 proof store pick. I haven’t tried it yet but their OFSB barrel strength is unbelievable.
I’ll check it out!
Penelope Barrel strength is great stuff. Archetect is solid too. The base one is lame.
Check the laser code on the back. Learned last night I have 2 different codes. The one is awesome (A23) the other is woody (A22).
I have both laser codes and mentioned in the description ima blind both!
Garrison Brothers gets dumped on but if people were to drink it blind I think a lot of the hate it gets is because of its label. The actual bourbon is fantastic. Especially their cowboy bourbon.
I keep hearing about this CowBoy I might have to snag one! They are quite expensive tho. Have you tried it?
Yes I have the 2023 release. It’s a hazmat bottle, 140.9! Delicious.
Great video! Redwood Empire Pipe Dream cask strength and their Grizzly Beast BiB are 2 of my favorite bourbons. Did not know that about the EC Barrel Proof. I’m glad I got a C923 bottle, I got it back in October and it’s half gone though. 😢
You’ll find another! Thank you for watching!
Happy to see you grab that Uncle Nearest single barrel!
Its so good too! Cheers!
Got two OF SBs from Total Wine last month
Youre a little tough on Penelope. Their traditional offerings are average, but the cooper series and founder reserve bottles are good. Try the 9yr and report back.
Watch the review video and see what I thought in a blind
Wow, I never really noticed that the water wouldn’t make that much of a difference.
Yupp! Thank you for watching!
Let people decide for themselves instead of telling people that you dont like a certain whiskey. Everyones pallet is different.
Ur right
I disagree, I want to hear as many opinions as possible on a bottle. I do not, however, let one opinion drive my choice, more of a consensus thing. Targeted purchases, not just a blind "this looks good"
Why? It's his opinion. Otherwise he's just pointing at bottles and saying the name. You're OK with him saying bottles are phenomenal, though?
@@BuckMcAntlerson He can talk about which bottles he likes and dislikes, just shouldn't tell someone who has never tried a certain whiskey that the entire company makes bad whiskey (his opinion).
You have to leave in the best bourbon market I’ve seen anywhere. The bottles that sit on the shelf in all these stores is unreal
Not the best but ive found some great stuff doing these videos! Thank you for watching! 🤙🏼🥃
What I don't like is RUclipsrs hating on particular bottles. It may not be your thing, but they should be tasting them all and suggesting them based off all offerings and not one. Penelope is great as t blending. I have had all of the Core series and the 4 Grain is the only one I don't care for. I want to start on the Cooper series.
Fair enough!
Nice to see some local content! Great choices for visits.
Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers! 🥃
Good job brother. You’re obviously passionate about what you do.
Thank you! Its fun and I appreciate you watching!
Rebel cask strength is very good , 120 proof . Very tasty cherry flavor .
Ive had tons of those and most of them are pretty good!
Definitely on the look for that old Forrester single barrel.
Damn you are only 23? Thought you were older. What do you do for work?
I post videos that people watch for some reason 🤷🏻♂️
