He should asked Colbert about racism in America and how white Americans plan to rid this country of it or do they want to??....how bout that question?..
I think he threw Tyson a softball, tried to give him a chance to say he'd learned to be more respectful of women or mindful in his interactions with them, and moved on when Tyson said he'd learned "he had friends" and refused to entertain the possibility he'd actually done anything wrong.
Phil Ledwith Agreed 100%. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tyson has lawyers telling him to admit to nothing in case there’s later lawsuits out there, but to be honest his focus on the fans kinda comes off as as an indication that he’s self-centered enough to have actually done those things he’s accused of.
@@philledwith8307 The only thing Tyson has too be mindful of is that being a famous person he is a target for kooks so he needs to be careful how close he allows people to get to him.

The fact of the matter is all you have to go on is hearsey. He-said she-said. None of us were involved, so why would you judge a person as guilty off of rumors? And that goes for both sides. You can just as easily use this as reason not to defend him either. Quite frankly, it does not involve you, and you should not chastise anyone for rumors, so just go about your life. I'm not saying buy his book, but just ignore him. If hearsey is enough to make you lable him as an awful person, then great, you don't have to pay attention to him. You can just go about your day without having to stir up drama with those with differing opinions. Worry about living your life well, and you'll be all the better for it, but people in glass houses should not throw stones.

@@Mehwhatevr The Us & Them mentality is dominant in all the greater ape species. Thinking we are going to evolve out of our base instincts is probably fruitless. That same mentality helped give us culture. We might learn to suppress it, but it's never going to just evolve away.
Speciesism is a term to describe discrimination against other species and it's already happening on earth - with animals. Maybe we can start to see animals as intelligent life forms first, before thinking about aliens.
I can't speak for anyone else, but if it comes down to Us vs. the Aliens, all else being equal I'm rolling with team spacesquid. Humanity had it's shameful moment in the sun and we've largely squandered it so far IMO.
Or if they did, they’d usually wait ages and then never address it. It might be more uncomfortable, but it’s also kinder, I think, to get it out. It is tricky, because i think a lot of people have mixed emotions. Personally, I really dislike the suspicion immediately thrown on someone who reports sexual misconduct of some kind. If it’s a woman, there’s an air of, “Well, were you leading him on? Sure you’re not just regretting it or trying to get him in trouble?” And with men there’s another bias entirely. “But you’re a dude. Either a guy made you his b*%#h or... you’re not seriously telling me a woman did it? So are you saying you’re such a punk you can’t stop a chick or maybe you just regret what happened but weren’t complaining at the time.” It sucks that there’s a level of suspicion and stigma around reporting that isn’t at the same level with reports of other kinds of crimes. There are people who lie about it happening, absolutely, who either don’t report the actual facts and embroider, or just make it up entirely. But the numbers of cases like that are similar to the numbers in other areas of crimes reported, so the extra suspicion does nothing but make the people reporting feel like utter trash. Of course, swinging the other way and wanting to burn the guy’s (or woman’s) life down to the ground to try to get justice for the reporting party before actual investigation is done is also traumatizing and horrible. I think it’s going to be hard for us to get to a point where we take the people reporting these things seriously and treat them with empathy, but where we also don’t swing the other way by scorching the earth of any and all accused before we find out what there is to know. It doesn’t help people who are telling the truth about the crimes against them and there’s no way to undo that damage. I hope one day we get there, where honest claimants don’t have anything to fear in how they’ll be treated, but neither will the accused, before what actually happened comes to light. Until we get both sides of that process figured out, I don’t think we’ll really have a shot of the justice system working. Of course, that’d be an outlier itself. But there’s a first time for everything.
He wasn't cleared of sexual harassment, the investigations concluded and the findings have not been made public. A museum spokesman said in a statement that based on the results of the investigation, Tyson “remains an employee and director of the Hayden Planetarium”. The statement said museum officials would not comment further “because this is a confidential personnel matter” There is no exoneration, merely that whatever the investigations showed it did not result in him losing his position
@@SunflowerSpotlight I think most people have a lot of suspicion and questions because a lot of these allegations first and foremost arent even crimes, its considered social misconduct. Secondly theres usually little if ANY evidence and that turns a lot of these situations into one persons word versus another. If a woman walks into the police stations battered and bruised and says her husband beat her, I dont think they have level of scrutiny because its pretty obvious something is going on. Also, looking at a lot of these high profile cases where there is not even a crime and its 'such and such high profile person made me feel uncomfortable' its totally outside the legal system, and now youve entered the court of public opinion. The problem with the court of public opinion? People have a lot to say, and they will come forward with ridiculous questions, allegations against the accuser, conspiracy theories, calling for the head of the accused, etc. Theres a reason we're a republic and not a direct democracy, most people have a mild mental illness and are unable to apply the level of nuanced thinking required. Personally I consider the fact that most people have horrifically bad memory when it comes down to it. Cases that are 10-20 years old or older, I sincerely think the accuser AND the accused probably have memories that are totally altered by time and their ego having to rationalize their behavior; or change the memories trying to reconcile incongruities with their actions and their moral perspective. The only person here that had potential for a case was the woman that accused him of rape, the other accusations were merely the media trying to apply hyperbole so they could write "Multiple women come forward" when mentioning his name. We have to be adults going into the future, life is complicated and riddled with the necessity for nuance, misunderstandings are literally the foundation for most of the fiction we adore, and we are not exempt from these misunderstandings in real life. I think communication is a powerful tool, and if someone is making you feel uncomfortable, ANYONE should feel empowered to voice their opinion. Does anyone sincerely think this is the man that will fire you or blow off someone voicing their feelings about his actions? I doubt it. In our society, if we cant recognize the difference between a real crime, and two adults having a misunderstanding that can be remedied through civil discourse pretty immediately, then we will never get out of the mire the media wants us to wade in. Remember, we are cogs in the machine for ad revenue, they love nothing more than us not being able to spot the hyperbole, and maintain the critical thinking skills required of us as an informed public.

There is no doubt that there is life elsewhere. This universe is just too big for humans to be the only life in existence. Do you know what’s so crazy though? @@SimpExterminator But I'm pretty sure mostly anywhere where life is possible, we'll only find microbes. Earth is so perfect that finding a planet just like ours is stupidly hard, complex life is too delicate to form on most worlds. Even if complex life does forms, most of it wouldn't be as intelligent as humans, intelligence is hard to gain and depends on the environment around the et species. For example, we humans became smart because of lack of trees in major parts of Africa, we became intelligent to protect ourselves from predators and invent tools to help us hunt, especially in the far north. Most animals just don't need intelligence to survive and most aliens wouldn't be any different. I'd say we should be the aliens for them, we should go to their planet, even if there's an intelligent species there's a very low chance it'll be more intelligent than us, we can share our knowledge for the better future of both the civilizations. Bullshit. If Neil did anything at all, it was frivolous. Probably even more so than the horseplay Al Franken was attacked for. Unless we're talking about Weinstein level abuses, the value in what these people do for society is too important.
Stephen Colbert is good about addressing difficult subjects objectively, even when they involve people he likes. Colbert did a good job. However, Tyson's answers to Colbert's questions kind of bothered me. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt by saying he's nervous and wary because of what he's been through, but his responses felt kind of empty and disingenuous. Not sure what to make of that, and I'm trying not to judge. At any rate, Colbert was offering him a chance to rehabilitate his image and I don't think NDT took full advantage of the opportunity he was given here.
When you haven't done anything wrong, there is no victories to be won in public opinion. There shouldn't be an opinion. He can get mad at his accusers or he can pray for them. I'm assuming he's hoping they get well soon.
I completely agree, and yet every case is individual and complicated and incredibly emotional. I just hope for the best for everyone, and he definitely could have given a more eloquent answer, but I somehow also think that people would also misconstrue that as forced and prepared.
Cultural norms shift, I can't convict someone without evidence, but regardless of if he did it, I hope we can all be better people (NDT included) and grow as a society.
I'll always love this man. Allegations or not. Unless something concrete emerges from an accuser, something more than a story, a supposed memory, or hearsay, it's really nothing more substantive than a bald assertion. Nobody should be "disappeared" because of a bald assertion.
If you ask me, it's only logical: After all, humanity has a tendency of banding people who share a race, culture, religion, etc. together and thinking "the other side is wrong and our enemy". A shame that we'd have to get to that in order to get rid ot the things that separate us, if you ask me, but I agree with the logic behind it.

I am glad that Steven brought him back, most people wouldn't even though he was cleared of sexual harassment.
Sure you’re not just regretting it or trying to get him in trouble?”
And with men there’s another bias entirely. “But you’re a dude. Either a guy made you his b*%#h or... you’re not seriously telling me a woman did it? So are you saying you’re such a punk you can’t stop a chick or maybe you just regret what happened but weren’t complaining at the time.”
It sucks that there’s a level of suspicion and stigma around reporting that isn’t at the same level with reports of other kinds of crimes.
The statement said museum officials would not comment further “because this is a confidential personnel matter”
There is no exoneration, merely that whatever the investigations showed it did not result in him losing his position

Another was someone who had a planetary tattoo that he was intrigued by and looked at on her arm or something? Idk
He was accused of raping a girl in college. This was not taken as true.
He ran his hands up a girls shirt sleeve up into the body of the shirt "looking for pluto" in her tattoo of the 8 planets on her arm.
The final one he asked his production assistant who was to be working with him to have food and wine with him, which considering his position as her boss, his persistent suggestions that she drank wine was uncomfortable. There is no doubt that there is life elsewhere. This universe is just too big for humans to be the only life in existence. Do you know what’s so crazy though? If or when we ever make contact with other life, humans are going to be the ones that have to follow the rules and obey commands. We don’t even have the technology or the aircraft that would even come close to allow us to travel far within the outer universe. But if UFO’s or other life are able to come to Earth, you know their technology is well beyond anything we have in 2019.
@@SimpExterminator
But I'm pretty sure mostly anywhere where life is possible, we'll only find microbes. We can be Gods for them.

Cultural norms shift, I can't convict someone without evidence, but regardless of if he did it, I hope we can all be better people (NDT included) and grow as a society.
He was exonerated. Period.

I'll always love this man. Allegations or not.
Unless something concrete emerges from an accuser, something more than a story, a supposed memory, or hearsay, it's really nothing more substantive than a bald assertion.
Nobody should be "disappeared" because of a bald assertion.

If we tasted any good we wouldn't be at the top of the food chain
All I have to do is out run everybody. Slow man out.
What if they only like to eat ass, like this generations complete fuckups!?
I got a question right on the MCAT thanks to this video!
Isn't that literally Ozymandias' plan in Watchmen?
Only in the books. But yes!
Also in 20th century boys
If you ask me, it's only logical: After all, humanity has a tendency of banding people who share a race, culture, religion, etc. together and thinking "the other side is wrong and our enemy". If we ever find life in another planet, it might be able to make us forget about our differences.
A shame that we'd have to get to that in order to get rid ot the things that separate us, if you ask me, but I agree with the logic behind it.
@@victorcabanelas I'm afraid you overestimate humanity.
The most common response would probably be, *"Who gives a f...? It's just some virus/bacteria/spore: it's not PEOPLE, like us!"*
And then humanity would go back to fighting among themselves over who are the *real* "people"...😡
@@Lucius1958 That's a really fair point. After all, whenever there's a brief period of peace, most people seem to like finding reasons to kill one another.

These two have great chemistry.
Tyson lights up when he's in his element: all talks on astro-anything 😁 It was night and day how he came off the sexual accusation topic. Glad the BS missed him.
"The first thing we'd want to know is if it's edible". I think we'd first want to know if we could kill it or mate with it.
@xplus93 I definitely "mate" as "sex/fun" not "procreation". Haha
Nah, first thing we'd want to know would be whether we can sell them any life-insurance or Netflix subscription.
What a mentality! No wonder men run into trouble.
Really? That is the totality of the male gender? Can I eat it, kill it or fuck it? With that mentality, please live in the woods with wild animals, who have to do that out of instinct for sheer survival.
That being said, one of my male friends said to me, that's the way men are. When we see or meet a woman, our first thought is "will she have sex with me?" So very very disappointing. Truth is truth I guess, but so sorry most guys didn't quite make it to the top of the evolutionary ladder. More's the pity.
I'm wondering if we can sell it or will it harm our ecosystem.
1st reaction: Ah, I see that NdT has read The Watchmen too.
2nd reaction: I'm glad that NdT was granted due process by his university and was cleared, as touchy of a subject that it is. I wish Al Franken had been given the same luxury.
Al Franken "fell on a sword", if you catch that ancient Roman metaphor.
He resigned to show that Democrats do hold to their own standards and it. Was. Epic.
@@PobortzaPl Al did want an investigation but some refused to respect Al so he "fell on his award" as you put it. A real shame.
@@ceciliaFX Did I get it right, that it's lack of investigation that you find shameful? Cause I can at least partially agree with that.
If you find his resignation shameful I can assure you shouldn't. He self sacrificed himself and that's the one thing Evil is both completely incapable of doing and incapable of understanding its meaning.
@@PobortzaPl - yes, Al Franken SHOULD have been respected and given a full investigation. His resignation was really the only right thing he could do, sadly.
It's been since found that some of these accusations were BS, but because there were no formal investigations, Al has never been exonerated as he should have been.
"MeeToo" is about taking women seriously, but the accused should also be taken seriously and investigations need to happen.
ceciliaFX yeah, it’s annoying the metoo movement has basically devolved from taking down the corrupt and powerful abuser to basically publicly lynching anyone and everyone.

Seriously, people act like everyone's accused of misconduct, when in reality it's a miniscule percentage of those working in media especially considering unreported cases of misconduct of the last fifty years are coming to light. It's more the case that we are hearing 50 years of sexual misconduct in a time period of two years. Of course it seems like everyone is accused.
@@lulumatthewiosi179 It's everyone that matters. A high number of successful men are being accused. Stephen is highly successful so his chances are high.
You can hear the fear to say something wrong in his voice, it’s scary to think that someone will go out of their way to destroy your reputation for no reason other than to appeal to their own self-interest. In this case, bringing themselves into public light by destroying another person’s own. People are sick.
It’s an objective fact that even if the accused is found innocent, the accusation alone is enough to cost them nearly everything. Meanwhile the accuser will get off scot-free.😕
JustAGuyfromLDN Oh yeah, I know. The accuser very well understands that concept before the accusation which makes it even worse.

Same here. An old colleague (who i was close to but not romantically) tried it on with me and when i turned her away, she became cold towards me, to the point where she accused me of harassment (over text, not publicly) for trying to caress her to save our friendship. After she did that I havent spoken to her since, and worst part is she told me not to tell anyone about it, yet i found out she told lots of my old colleagues, and what is worse, is i don't know what she told them. The truth, or her version of the truth.
@@renegadeoffunk32 absolutely her version of the truth. If she were going to tell the truth, what reason would there be to "forbid" you from telling the truth?
I had an ex that apparently really really wanted to keep my expensive stereo, so after calling her a few times over a week to try to get some things back, she invited me over to get said stereo, then noticed she didn't want to answer the door, then i calmly got on the elevator to get back in my car to leave though frustrated about it, reached the lobby, then noticed the cops boxed in my car in front of the building, so i went to the superintendent's place as we got along well together, then i went out to the cops, then they arrested me. While sitting in the back of one of the cruisers, noticed her ex walk out and throw my ice skates into open car window as if placing them there, minus the stereo, then found myself being driven to the a local court house, then the prosecuting attorney in the courtroom said that i shouldn't be released, thus resulting in a all inclusive overnight stay at the iron bar hotel, were upon arrival, i was greeted by a few people asking if i had any crack after i flashed the 30 or so people there a peace sign, then i said no, i dont have crack, then they asked me again to see if i was going to suddenly say yes to them, because the hotel guests there apparently really really like that sort of thing. I was released the next day, and then after that, i lawyered up fearing i was being framed, she let me have the stereo, though someone else had to get it for me, due to a peace bond that she requested that made me out to sound as if she was worried i was gonna be mean to her, yet never gave any indication i ever would've been, being that i was probably only guilty of being too nice really. Then my phone rings at my parents place and it was her, my stepfather answered it and recorded it, and she was all like: i didn't want him to get charged.
So then court day arrives, we had to be there on the other side of the city, she walked into the courtroom and smiles at my stepfather, then glares at me as if it was my fault she was had to be there. Bizarre.
She was often accusing me of cheating on her though that never happened, though apparently she was banging previous ex.
