if you're rich everywhere is great.
if you're poor everywhere is terrible.
Born and raised in London but now I can't wait too leave for good. I'm sixty years old and I'm completely done with it .
How am poor but want to go forever ? I worked whole life for zero finally ..
I lived on and off in London for many years, it’s a great city but I can’t stand the weather. I love sunshine and warm temperatures.
I lived in London for 23 years. Hard life as hell but each time you thinking it gets better something comes along to drain all your effort. Economically the country every 5 years or so something major happens and puts it's people in square 1. This has been the case since 2007-8. I will never know when I will stop existing and start living. The only way is when I get out
So refreshing to hear someone else notice the perpetual hardship of living in the UK since 2007!
Good luck! I've discovered over the past year here's much more of us than we realise.
Everyone leaves London before they're 40. It's been that way since Abraham was a kid
I was born in Manchester 6 decades ago. I left the UK when I was 25 for much the same reasons that you did. I was very unhappy with the weather and the self limiting attitudes of most of the people there. I never felt like I fit in and left for the US. I eventually got a greencard and then US citizenship and married an American girl. I've been to the UK on vacation but I was always happy to get back to home in the US. I've had a much better lifestyle than I think I could have had in the UK. It's not all been easy but it was way worth it.
I left the UK at 25 too... literally forced out of it (thanks to brexit).
That was a very valid choice I am unfortunately still stuck in UK but will try to move to USA for a better life quality
How did you get a visa to live in the US?
@@lolabradley6548 - I answered an ad in the jobs section of the Sunday edition of one of the big newspapers, can't remember which. It was for a computer programmer for a contract company in the US. This was pre-Internet so I had to write and mail a letter to the US. They invited me to an interview in London, liked me and then I had to apply for a US work visa through the embassy (an EB2 visa). As soon as I got to the US I applied for a green card. It took a couple of years to process and cost a couple of thousand $'s for attorney fees. About 10 years after the green card I applied for citizenship which was another $2K in fees.
@@lolabradley6548 don't know who you're asking... but my employers said they can get me a work visa to the US since they do business with US companies so it's really not that hard tbh. Sometimes they can pay travel expenses too.
im 41 years old, been living in london since i was 18....agreed with all that you have mentioned, the cost of living, ever increasing population, crime rates, pollution and the quality of life or lack off lol, is becoming psychologically draining to say the least...i mostly work from home now and planning to make my move sooner rather than later...(only regret i have is) that i wished had done it a lot sooner
I live in London for past 20 years and he is spot on, sadly.
As a Londoner I wish 3 million other Londoners would also leave.
It's not just London. It's a UK thing. Besides the tragic commute, everything else is typical UK.
If I was the sort of outgoing person that liked change and didn't find making friends and getting used to new places a struggle, I wouldve left the UK a long time ago. I've been here 13yrs and I'm still not really accustomed and comfortable.
Fully agree with you! I'm from east Europe, moved to London in 2021. I expected a lot from this city, first few month I was so exited and stuff like this, but before I just got to depressed, the people there are not connected, nobody is smiling on the street, the prices are ridiculously high, getting out with friends is too expensive and you spend a lot of time just on the way. One of the biggest problems for me is the weather here, can't enjoy my life without sun, and here most of the time you won't see it. I decided that this summer I'm gonna move to Australia
2019: Rent vs income was good in London.
2023: Rent vs income is outrageously disproportionate.
EXACTLY my thoughts! Horrible
What job were you doing in 2019?!😂
Rents have been ridiculously high since the late 00s at least, and have got steadily worse every year.
Yes
I moved from London to Bucharest !!! London looks like a place where you stay some time but not too long because for working class there are much better options.
Bucharest is a dump and it stinks 😷
The crime drove me away, the old fashioned buildings did depress me too.
Although I agree London is shit, old historical building are 100x better than all these modern glass blocks that are being built
It was the shitty new buildings that drove me away lol
I love all these Brits complaining in the comments. Get a taste of the tough life. Wales was like this for years.
I've lived in Cornwall (Born there) London and Cheshire. I still think these are valid complaints. Agree though Cornwall possibly like Wales , I feel is a special type of difficult life
Bro . I am living in London since one and half year as a student . Such high costs of living , cold weather , fast paced and life and really such an unfriendly atmosphere . May god bless all of us . Still every place has its own charm but still not liking it
I am English and emigrated to Australia. When I lived in England there was never any money for the people. I came to Australia and it is so different, yes there are problems Australia is not immune from world inflation. I then went back to England band straight away was told there was no money. Britain is far richer than Australia. Britain is the 5th largest economy Australia is 14th. When I pointed out to people how much better off people were in Australia they would say” yes but Australia is a rich country” they all thought Britain was poor because govts gave them that impression. When Thatcher was in power she privatised the nationalised arms company and received a hefty number of shares from the company that bought it, as did numerous MPs. Shares were not offered to the public. This is how govts are connected to the arms industry and so keep buying weapons, with tax payers money of course so as to keep the 😊share price up.
I recently moved from the US to Japan!
The food is amazing, rent is cheap, people are amazing, and its just different! Life is too short to not experience other cultures.
Asia is the best region of the world I think. Highly developed, cultured, productive with friendly people, almost no crime, natural scenery and the best food.
After watching this video I feel even more depressed about living in London. 😭 It’s exactly as you described it. Been living here for the last 5 years, but still don’t like it as a permanent destination, especially because I’ve also lived in places like California and Vietnam. 🌞 I guess you learn to live wherever you end up though.
Leave . Move bfre yiu get stuck .. time waits for no one
You must be my twin. I've also lived in those places. Ready to go back to Vietnam now though
We need to start a no drinking culture. I stopped by 36, there are a lot of us out there.
I hear you with that 👍
Misuse of alcohol one of UK's biggest draw backs . Destroys so much .
To me london weather is perfect. It never gets extremely cold and not too hot either.
I think London is a lot like NYC where I’m from. It’s great to visit but living there is a different story. It’s draining, expensive and you get very little for your very hard earned $$ 😢
But the big difference between you and most working people is that from what you have described you are good financially, you have an apartment in Dubai you have an apartment in London, and a house in Finland. Most people don`t have all those options.
Wow, I didn't know I have a house in Finland..🤣
After all of his criticism of London, why does he still own a flat there ?
Totally agree with your observations , the UK is progressively going down the plughole.
I live in the UK and an ideal location would be Colombia, Portugal, or Dubai
I have lived in London for the last 30 years and I'm moving to Portugal later this year
Portugal is not what it seems
grass is always greener elsewhere - everywhere in the world has its ups and downs. nowhere is perfect
London is not the same anymore! Its soul is dead
London is not a city for anyone. Too expensive, wages stagnant, knife crime, pollution, the city is filthy and dirty, crime levels high, child trafficking, homelessness, tap water extremely disgusting 🤮.
London sucks….
Yeah looks like glass was greener in dubai. He seems like he enjoys it there
Hi mate, great video I agreed with every single word you said about London, and I can confirm is 100 % true.
You ended where I was going to start - digital nomading is the answer. London is one of the best cities in the world to live in - IF you can afford to buy a nice home in a decent area near good transport with a good community around it - families and professionals, not HMOs and social tenant areas. Combine with travel and digital nomad out to a sunny spot part of the year, and you're golden. Coming back is always wonderful. After leaving London for 6 years, I've just bought a 2 bed house near London city airport, zone 2/3. I can travel to Europe and beyond every month, and now saving to buy my little beachside house in a hot equatorial country (not saying where because westerners will flock there and drive the prices up). Each to their own though 😊
I‘m a Brit living in Germany. Left in the mid 80‘s and absolutely love it here. Able to hop overland to visit other countries and the tax payed goes somewhere whereas in England it goes up politicians noses!
Great Britain needs to re-invent itself in a hurry to be able to progress again within the European Union and the politicians could start off with admitting they’ve previously screwed up!
Thanks Tuomas for your info and wish you lots of success in Dubai….😉
Sheesh Dubai.... 50 degrees in Summer - No thank you
I agree 100% and I don't even live in London , I live up north , it's just so depressing !
I was in Helsinki this year - it’s amazing there! no need to move to Dubai or London - Sometimes people are looking for the happiness all around the world only to realise that your own country is the best. I like Eastern Europe its clean/fresh/modern. Australia wasn’t bad. Other Anglo-Saxon countries a falling apart - VERY LEGACY like.
I agree with everything, in February it will have been 19 years I stayed in London.
I had zero life in here, but lots of horrible experiences, I wish I could leave now, unfortunately some circumstances will have me kept here for a little longer.
Thank-you for sharing your honest review. Ive come to the UK and I hate it here. Its been 6 months and Ill give myself another 6 then I'll me outta here..
It's true. If you have money it doesn't really matter where you live.
It all depends where you grew up from. Emmigrants from Africa and India have much to thank UK. I live in Nairobi, Kenya and I sincerely cannot complain as the weather is heavenly and food prices are well under control. If I divide the income of an average person's income in Europe by a factor of 10 the salaries very much compatible. Unless we are destroyed by untold calamites the third world is a force to reckon with. Dubai and Singapore are passing clouds in the econmic sense of the word and you of all people with your educational background should know best.
What does Africa & India have to thank the UK for? Slavery, colonialism? What a stupid comment
I'm living in Florida now, originally from New York. New York was similar to how you described London. Florida is alright for now but I don't feel comfortable in this country, especially with the elections coming up. I'm currently studying to become a software engineer/developer like yourself so that I can have freedom to work remotely. I of course plan on creating a startup that involves the use of AI & Machine learning... but for now it's one day at a time. Love the videos like always Tuomas ;D
I live in a coastal city about 70 miles from London and where I live is getting worse. I hate it here and I am constantly on edge to the point I am now on anti-depressants. I'd leave tomoorow if I could. I firmly believe by the end of the decade, the UK will be a 3rd world country. The UK is a shitehole.
You're right it most likely will be 3rd world by end of the decade. You might want to study Bitcoin. It offers a brighter future. Better than anti-Ds
You're saying EXACTLY what I've been saying since the 1990's, complete shitehole. It was a beautiful country growing up in the 1960's and 70's.
I wish I could afford to give you a bucket full of money to get you out of here. Probably too late for me.
I'm glad you woke up! I recall what you are saying to Londoners when I was selling Burj khalifa apartments in Dubai during the Dubai boom years to skeptical Londoners
I'm a US/UK dual national who has lived decades in both countries. I lived in Abu Dhabi from 2010 to 2015 and in Nassau Bahamas since October 2015. All of my changes in country have been due to my work. My favourite country of redidence is the UAE. I enjoyed living in the UK,. I haven't lived there since 2010. However, I visit the UK at least once per year. I'd say the UK is my second favourite country. I would never live in the US agains. Although I left the US in '98, I visit it once or twice a year. I can't wait to leave the Bahamas. My plan is to immigrate to Argentina when I retire at the end of the year. I've been to Argentina four times, twice in 2023, to see if I would really like to live there.
I left London in 2005 and moved to Canada 🍁 Best decision ever 😊😊😊😊
the weather is eeven worse there
@@hansw7878 everything is worse in Canada.
I'm living currently in Washington, D.C. and the crime is awful the past couple of years here. My cousin was almost killed because of gun violence, and I witnessed four people being shot behind my apartment. I've lived in the U.S. for most of my life, and lived in Paris a couple of times (briefly). I think the UK and the U.S. have somewhat similar problems (regarding disparity between income vs rent prices, inflation, etc.), except the U.S. is much scarier to live in because of the gun violence, politics, and high costs of healthcare. I think it depends where you're coming from and where you're going. I wanted to live in London, but who knows now?
I had never been to London but very ,very honestly Paris had hugely disappointed me with its old fashion ness and lack of greenery. I know there are lot of parks in and around paris but even the parks have paved walkways , mowed grass and less large green covers.
I think cities are most livable when they are covered with large trees and less concrete.
Weather is also a let down for people like me but well i think wevas human beings can always adjust to that.
And the worst thing about paris was the huge number of Arabian and African people in that place.
I say it again and again that my Irish missionary run school in messy Calcutta of the 70s, 80s and 90s looked, felt and appeared much more european than paris appeared to me in 2023 and that was very, very sad for me.
If people made money from content creating (youtube) and being able to make money while being anywhere then im sure more people would move from the uk to live in a different country but because most of us work for companies we are not able to just pick a country and live there
I’m living in Ubud, Bali now. Moved from Jakarta. I’m just sick and tired of heavy traffic, pollution, ugly buildings, constantly surrounded by concrete houses but mostly the people I’d love to avoid 🤨.
Now I’m surrounded by nature and can 🌟 stargazing at night.
The only downside is Jakarta still offers great food. I miss them daily.😅
The Quran places a strong emphasis on the sanctity of human life. It prohibits murder and condemns violence and aggression except in cases of self-defense or just war.
So most Muslims can't read !
I agree with you on everything you just said I thought I was the only one thinking like this I hate it can't stand it no more
Baltimore, MD. I like my house but not the area I'm in because there's high crime. I think I want to stay in Maryland but maybe in a different part of it that's safer. My ideal environment would be within walking distance of a library.
Dubai is the best place for you to have a home base to escape the summer I recommend Malaysia. The weather is 26 to 31 degrees all year round, they speak English, cost of living is probably 1/3 of Dubai with high infrastructure they rank high in healthcare. The best part is Philippines and Indonesia geographically protect it from tsunamis so you don’t have to worry about that either
completely agree with all of this
Living in Buenos Aires, planning to move to Australia.
Has your view changed following the election of Milei?
I’ve lived in London my whole life and agree with everything you said. I’m in the process of moving to Dubai for the same reasons you mentioned. Thanks for sharing knowledge and experience bro 👊🏽
Reading these comments now I'm actually going to look out for Dubai😮
hi. nth of Aust and the West . is where you;ll find continuous and complete sunshine mate. the spiders n snakes wont bother you. You;re more than welcome . cheers
We can't alter the weather. I was interested if you were just leaving London or the whole of the UK. 🤔 Thankfully London is not the whole of the UK, (some argue it's no longer part of the UK), I personally wouldn't want to live there. However visiting for a day is fine. 🤗
Every country has its problems, you can’t keep running away. You’re too young to appreciate things like tradition and history. I was the same at your age. It took me years to settle. England is not ONLY limited to London. There’s the rest of Britain to explore. Glorious places. I’m not from London but I’ve been a few times for work and training and I hate London. Not my cup of tea.

I love Vancouver & it was home till I moved to London 20 yrs ago but left London nearly 9 fantastic yrs for the same reasons and now work & enjoy more than 30 countries thus far & saving 2 to 3x more than when I had my 9-5 back in London!!! The world's way more than just the UK or even the most beautiful Vancouver, tho I still visit once in a while but only in the Summers as no way anyone should endure the miserable winter in London / Vancouver when u can hv the Caribbean where I am now, tho only for a few months as I've new venues in mind literary once every few months. Love seeing the world for "free" and work with lovely folks from all walks of life in different corners of this beautiful planet! Everyone should try it out & u've nothing to loose. Do it now!!!
Sounds like an amazing life you have built, congrats!!
Dubai is a bit too fake and artificial for me. Warm weather and sunshine is nice, but I'd rather go to a more authentic place like Mexico, Colombia, Spain, Portugal or maybe a Balkan country for geomaxing. One condition, it has to be next to the sea.
Welcome to Dubai!! Hope to meet you someday here
Good points raised
If you came here illegally was diverse enough and were on benefits you'd be living the dream !
London is going down for decades now. It has become uncool
coming from Argentina, all the things you listed are (from inflation to insecurity) are our normal, e.i. inflation just for 2022 was 90% you never know how much you will pay for bread!!! insecurity level they will kill you just for a pair of snickers..
Once a country start the spiral, the next step is Venezuela.. or worst.
As humans we always want to be in a better place, but we should always have perspective..
I'm currently living in Nigeria, but the economy is too bad plus insecurity. I have plans to move to Dubai too, no cash for now tough. And the reason why I love Dubai is the global access one would have , I mean home of experts, lots of people from different nationalities over 200
Nigerians should stop sugarcoating terrorism by calling it "insecurity".
What the hell can i do as a family man ? I am a one man band im scared and worried for my kids future we are working class i have a small mechanic buisness and my partner does dog walking between us no qualifications but we are all healthy .
We dont know what to do at all where to start who to talk to or how to do it all we know is that we dont feel comfortable here anymore not that we ever really have but we need help !
Good luck! 🍀🍀🍀
A Finn with a Welsh accent but what he says is correct.
Seems like a lot of Brits go first to Australia , America and Canada. America is not perfect , but Florida has nicer weather.
how to you find coding gig remotely. bro. I moved back from London to FWI Guadeloupe. and I want to find coding work I do Android dev
' What does culture mean?' Britain pretty much built the world and everyone copied.
You're joking right?
Well yes and no sure we started the industrial revolution (but that wasn't London, it was Shropshire first then the West Midlands and the North) and all that entails but that's really about it. That's not culture though. In the UK the word culture has lost its proper meaning to mean...well pretty much any crap, but really it means not just art, music, architecture (all of which are and were better and nicer in other European countries) but how people live their lives i.e. cuisine, drinking culture...so massive fail for Britain on those 2. Bottom line is the quality of life is shite in the UK for a variety of reasons.
Greece> Italy > United kingdom > USA > next?

Why that bloody violin?!!!
Free Taxes is the major reason for people to move to Dubai. That is a fact and that is totally fine.
Yes about go getters, surround your self with people who want to achieve.
Why not take your home and savings with you? #vanlife 😊
who will work in those empty office buildings........to own nothing ?
- not me.
Goodbye!! Hope you have a great life.but to be honest it really doesn’t make any difference whatsoever if you are living in London, or not? I’ve heard Timbuktu is great, this time of year. Bye!
I'd love to hear why you wouldnt live in Finland besides the weather!
What does a red head want with the Sun, do you want to be a lobster ?
we are part of your journey and want to be do the same.
Yes - But I went one better than that - I never went there in the first place.
Agree with you, but Dubai isnt a real place... its just so man made and vacuous
In case you didn't know, every city in the world is man made
@@tuomaskiv yes, but the entire place is, Dubai lies directly within the Arabian desert therefore it is manmade in its entirty, it may be modern but it lacks character
@@AwarebynatureLiterally, once you've experienced all the attractions in the area, which can take a year or two, you'll find that your friends won't be interested in your company because they're either too far away or they've just run out of contracts and are busy returning home or living in a new place. I spent 5 years in Dubai, the first 2 were fun, the rest I spent alone. What London has in common is that when you are bored you go out to a pub or a club and you will always find someone to talk to and find someone with whom you can establish a longer relationship in a fairly easy way. Well, but for that you have to have character and care too much when you see a piece of paper on the street.
@tuomaskiv Speaking of your constant sense of danger in the tube, I don't know man where you got it from. I, for a couple of years commuting to Elephant & Castle in Bakerloo to and from work, was able to take a 20-minute nap every day with a backpack with a laptop between my legs. Totally relaxing.
I'm living in France and almost every single point you made about the UK can just as well be applied to France! xD
My ideal location would have to be a big city full of innovation and entertainment, have sunny weather, and be near the beach.
I'm considering the UK & London because it would be the easiest to move to as a EU citizen (despite it only having the big city part). America would be ideal, I'd probably already be somewhere like Miami if their immigration laws didn't make it almost impossible to move there. Thought about Australia, but it's so far from... basically everywhere. Dubai sounds really nice but I haven't looked into it.
Dubai sounds ideal for you tbh - will depend on whether it has the career opps you want
Try Hong Kong
Any major city in the world is going to have all the things you're complaining about.
Someone has never traveled😂
Bali is nice
the main cities in uk and eu are in decline mainly because of mass migration
wait I wanna know how you can afford to leave Dubai (and the apartment you rent there) for months while you go back to London (where you said you also still have an apartment, like... how?) and while you also said you wanna be digital pomading elsewhere (where you also will need a place to stay). Like how do you afford all those rents? lol D:
I'm from Bulgaria, but I'm living in UK ( Manchester ). We share similar points of view about UK, and yeah the weather was one of the things that really bothered me when I came to UK in 2018.
I'm from Bulgaria and I think the UK is far better than Bulgaria.
what about the air quality is it bad just when outside or is it bad in apartment and in gym also for eample ? Thank YOu
Air quality is dreadful in Dubai. Sand in the air and cars galore, AQI is usually 80-100, Whereas London is usually 30-50. In context Beijing is 200 which is hazardous.

OMG what a whinger
I hated London in 1990s as transport didn't work, food crap, dirty. now it's fantastic in that respect but unaffordable so too late. I would nor buy a house then at 200k and now the same crap at 2M. As you say the vibe is not modern. I'm in Singapore now which has modern vibe but miss London so go there holiday.
yea agree the UK tax is criminal they fritter it away. in sg they spend it on stuff.
However if I can afford I move to London as work wise at my age it's less intense. one can probably work 9 to 5 and be drunk each day and do nothing and not get fired. try that in Singapore or Dubai.
btw why and how did you buy a house in London as it's so overpriced?
I didn't buy a house in London
@tuomaskiv OK just you said you still had a place in London so assumed it's purchased. Can you ever see prices coming down ?
Why didn't you live to Portugal, Spain or Italy?
they don't meet the criteria I have
