I was fortunate enough to watch him perform 3 times in my life !! UN - FREAKIN' - BELIEVABLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@JosephDong Watch his "Master's Class". It's on RUclips. His students don't suck either ! wow !! He will listen to them play & if he hears something in the music that isn't quite right, he stops them. Then he plays the change he wants made, the student watches & listens & then HE plays the change like he wrote it himself. Amazing !!
I am jealous friend. Having studied classical guitar for 12 years I always thought Segovia was so much better than all others it’s hard to even compare. But he was already gone when I started playing, rest his soul. Truly amazing.
OMG. This completely different and much more complicated than any other arrangements that I've seen. Amazing bass and harmony work, where even single note playing is complicated enough.
Alan Mearns now has a similarly dense and recent arrangement of this prelude and it's amazing, and he approaches it differently than Segovia in various places.
As I study this, of all the dozens of performances of BWV 1007 I've watched, only Segovia brings out the pronounced "1-2-3" bass line we hear in the familiar cellists' version. A beautifully different-level performance
Hugo Noriega
Just about every one else's version of this on RUclips uses simplified chord patterns and ignores some key bass notes and results in weaker harmony. This is ridiculously brilliant
Bach may be my favorite Classical Composer of all-time, I love his phrasings. And I also love Andre's interpretations of his pieces, especially this one. His inclusion of the bass notes is very impressive.
Un'interpretazione fuori dal tempo e dallo spazio, che entra nell'anima e nel cuore. Non esistono parole per poter descrivere ciò che si prova ad ascoltare .....grazie Maestro
I've always assumed that Segovia did this arrangement of the Bach prelude himself, although I could be wrong. The climax around 2:05 is breathtaking. The counterpoint, the intervals and the dynamics give me vertigo, like I'm in a rollercoaster just as it's cresting the apex and accelerating downhill. Love it! The piece is sweet on cello, but awesome with Segovia on guitar.
It is pieces like this who enabled Segovia to become the father of the modern guitar. His success was based on immense amount of work and a unparalleled artistic criterion. From young age he rejected cheap music. This guy knew what he was looking for, what the public needs, and how to achieve it. His contribution is that of a revolutionary despite the fact he was not a great composer and basically he only played an instrument millions played before him. To this day nobody can produce Segovia's sound.
+blueguitarist Segovia didn't stick as close to the cello piece as most arrangers do. He wasn't shy about bringing forward the guitar's capabilities as a multi-voice instrument, beyond what the original instrument was capable of technically -- as a matter of fact that was one of his goals when transcribing, as can be seen in a lot of his transcriptions. That said, as an early advanced player, I'm learning an arrangement that sticks pretty close to the original notes for cello. At this point, Segovia's would be over my head -- so it's either that or not do the piece at all. I WANNA DO IT NOW. ;) Then maybe later on, come back to Segovia's arrangement and really blow the audience out of their seats.
ive been playing clssical guitar for years and i get on fine with tab, loads of people do. Its not at all an insult, its just shorthand. You do need to be able to listen to the piece to make sense of it though.
Yes this is the Manuel Ponce transcription of Bach's Prelude from the first cello suite. I think it is available from Guitar Solo (GSP) Publications in San Francisco.
I can't forgive that ascending diminished chord at the end, it's so period incorrect and am over the top colouration that it is tacky. But he is Segovia... What an amazing tonal production and facility to produce it.
humbling, wonderful. i use to brag about making my first NYC street dollar playing this on an ovation bass. But this sends me back to the practice tomb to learn it on a six string
Amazing! Saw him at the Bklyn Academy of Music way back when. He was almost unbelievable. He was able to play so well with those stubby, fat fingers - almost a handicap! A great musician.
Serge Robert arr. of Bach Prelude Suite I BWV 1007 has many differences from Master Segovia performance. If anyone knows more accurate scores, please let me know.
Imagine the time, effort, concentration, focus, desire to perform every note step-by-step.
I tried its hard
Whenever someone says that Segovia has been surpassed they need to listen to this performance. I regularly listen to it for inspiration.
Would you say that John Williams or Julian Bream surpassed Segovia?
The conveyance of feeling through the instrument here is truly touching.

many tried but no one can surpass the mastery and class of Segovia!
I LOVE the way he plays Bach
one of the reasons i love Segovia's playing is because every note is important and given it's due care and attention
That was beutiful. I almost cryed. Segovia undrstood the perpose of the guitar, and how to convay the emotion that each pice has.

What an interesting and peculiar arrangement. Very tricky. And my my, what a sound! Absolutely huge!
I letting to play along with him on this and his smile at the end is the best! Love this version

Fora de série a habilidade desse virtuoso violonista. Criado assim por Deus.
The only problem I have with Segovia is that he got old and died. God rest his Soul...Bravo!

The best arrangement

Do you if there is a place to find partitures or tablatures for this version?

Beautiful, amazing, it looks as though it was composed for guitar, and every note seems to come from Segovia´s soul, a great master

Great. Thank you. After hearing at Segovia' s performance I do believe Bach composed the prelude for the guitar. No cello is so beautiful.
