Thank you for this, I’m having this exact issue after volunteering an MRI and contemplating what to do. You’ve kindly explained the options up to the most major surgery for this problem for me to consider.

what has your orthopedic surgeon or PT had you done about this? I am in the same predicament but remain confused and frustrated.

Michael Dooley I had steroid injections in both joints, daily treatment from my personal TENS machine, PT, Voltaren gel, tramadol, methocarbamol, ice packs, heating pads, and steroid tablets for pain and inflammation control. My orthopedic surgeon say that an operation to shave off the bone and make more room in the joint is the only true fix for the issue. My pain comes and go. My left shoulder causes more daily low grade pain with the right side having bad flares from time to time.

If the bone spurs tear the rotator cuff, is there any way to repair rotator cuff? Seems like you can grind off the bone spurs but you can't do much once it's torn into the rotator cuff.

Great discussion! Great advice! Are you familiar with PRP injections and have you used them for RTC injuries?

Thank you a helpful and interesting discussion.
FYI, Arthroscopic Distal Clavicectomy elimited my AC joint pain within 2 weeks.
    Only regret?
    Waiting.

That’s what I need but these Dr don’t want to give me an MRI it’s been injured 6 months. The VA Hospital refused a private Dr refused and I Have a PPO insurance. I bet if I was an Athlete MRI day one

How often is it that someone has just an A C joint issue? I had a clavicle excision. It helped but I’ve been told before that surgery that I have a rotator cuff problem. So, since the surgery, over a year ago, that my shoulder has been in pain. I had an injection for a rotator cuff and it helped for 3 months. I’ve been in pain again. We are looking at surgery again for the rotator cuff and possible slap tear. It makes me mad the surgeon never looked into the rotator cuff or at the possible slap tear

Great Video. AC joint arthrosis is exactly my problem. Had an injection 2 weeks ago and the pain is gone. I hadn't realized how important it is to do rotator cuff exercises before the injection effects wear off in order to try to avoid another injection or surgery. I'm going to start that now and see what happens. Thanks!

I’m a 38 year old volleyball player / cyclist. Diagnosed with ac joint arthritis. Problem has been ongoing for 8 weeks. Never had an ac joint problem there before. Had cortisone injection 1 week ago. Not feeling much of a difference yet. Will report back if I can beat this or if I had to get surgery.

Hey guys! I got a second, more thorough steroid injection, where the guy really aimed the needle around in the AC Joint. After that I saw a marked improvement that allowed me to avoid surgery. I play volleyball twice per week now. Sometimes the AC will pop/catch in the morning but the pain level is like a 1 out of 10 compared to "holy crap this hurts I might need surgery". My advice would be try 3 steroid shots before the surgery. Go see 2 doctors if you have to.
