Hi Timm. I have been hesitating for years about buying an E64. I have a 2.8 Z3 but it's just not the same. After watching your videos I reckon I can handle the little jobs required to keep one of these beasts on the road. Today I picked up my 2009 650i in dark blue and couldn't be happier....except I got a speeding ticket on the way home. Thanks Timm for your awesome information.
Time, you are the best! I've been watching your videos for a couple of years now, anticipating the day one of these problems will arise on my E64. The Boseman poke saved the day! You're the best! 😊
Didn't believe it would be as simple as this. 'Poked' passenger side...no movement. 'Poked' drivers side...it moved 1mm. Light went out and all is well. Awesome tip - thanks Timm!
Really helpful video. My top wouldn't work at all and I managed to use your guidance to figure it out enough to get the top to go down and then up (and lock). Saved a trip to the mechanic. Thank you!
Many, many thanks to you for producing these brilliant videos. Saved me countless hours of work and solved many problems. Not to mention the £'s it's saved me (cheque is in the post).!
Oh my GOD!!!!!!!!!! I'm so grateful for your research. When I say this top has been a complete summer buzz kill 😂😂😂😂😂.. Thank you for a great video and I got immediate results with a couple of pushes on that blasted corner 😊👍🏽
Brilliant!!!!!!. I have had the same intermitent problem for years, I hope it works on mine but there are many other sensors of course so pray it's that one!
Timm!!! You are brilliant!! I had the dreaded flashing red light that indicated " Convertable Top Not Locked ". So after watching this video, I employed the Boseman Poke on both sides and it worked!! Thanks, my friend!
Hello Timm. Had a very stressful weekend with all my windows not going up, that dreaded red blinking light came on then it rained hard covered up car with plastic sheeting with a few swear words. By now I feel my world has ended Then after a long while looking at your videos I done what you did what an absolute jem you are Thank you timm And all the very best. . Your videos are best on you tube I've looked at a few now Cheers.
Well done on this issue Timm. The roof workings are a bit of a put off for some, but hopefully this video will raise a bit more confidence in these fabulous cars.
Thanks Timm, with your video's help sorted my sticky sunroof too (although not needed in todays weather compliments of storm Antoni). It all seemed shut and locked down and windows closed but I assume the sensor didn't detect that so wouldn't let me in the boot. All now sorted and hopefully stays that way. 🙂
Tim, Thank you for the videos. I have the same car as you a 2007 650i so they are very helpful. I have a problem with the convertible top as I had to do an emergency closing (INPA had shown me I had a bad Hall sensor so I had the red light flashing. above the open/close cone. top buttons). Now I have the problem that I cannot open the top - the front lifts a few inches but the wings are rock solid down on the compartment lid. I remember you did not recommend closing top manually (and now see why). Do you have a video on how to open top manually or any idea how to do it. Local BMW dealer charges $205 per hr so not in a rush to go to him. Thanks
Just bought my 2007 M6 Convertible 2 weeks ago-(BMW enthusiast also) So I noticed the rear window was still up after several top operations ,didnt think much of it..then I was like ...hmmm.does that window go down ? I go on YT and someone was demonstrating how to use the window switches..cool it works ! I take it out of the garage 7 days later on our hottest day of the year so far (90° US) May 22 2024 to go get fresh rear tires and A/C Recharged -top would not close all the way ..I was livid !!! WTF BMW! Got home after the garage and went online and found this video..I was like ok..lets try it..after a few bangs on each side and trying to grab anything with metal to wiggle..It worked! Now will it be something I have to do all the time? Hope not..Thanks for this video,I was annoyed but know Im full of JOY LOL..Until next thing goes wrong :)
Hey Tim, thanks for the info ‘ beautiful 650i, I have a little problem with my soft top, I do not have a flashing light, but my soft top still stuck closed, do you think is good to be a sensor or a relay? When I press the button to open the top it seems to be reacting right but doesn’t want to open, I want to try the poke but idk if is on the passenger side or the driver ? I’m from the US idk if is different pls help 🫡
Another informative and engaging video Tim. I have just encountered the dreaded CCC failure on my 630i. Other than that love these cars. Your videos are what made me buy my car and have enjoyed following your tips. Keep up the great content 👍
Realy good information if I ever have that problem on my E46, thanks- But so far only had cable-wera-out problems so far. Replaced it two times, and one time just fixed the broken wires. My current problem is the passenger door lock, central locking won¨t unlock it fully. It's working, but something in the real lock-mechanism is a bit jammed. You can open (get for locked to unlocked, and pin up) mechanically from the unside, and then all is ok. Tried to lubricate from the rubber-grommet hole. But so far not hit the right spots. Unfortenately I can not find any video about a solution. Seeking for how to lubricate only leads to lubrication of the keyway, but that we do not need videos for. Anyone got a tip would be super.
Hi Timm - nice video !! But please have in mind that WD40 is not a "real" lubricant ! It's a common misunderstanding! There are lots of real lubricants on the market
If it doesn't work after that Tim I took the sensor off made the holes slightly bigger so the arm can move further down the sensor and all is good! The car was still under warranty and a bmw garage in the Midlands said the frame on the roof was bent so quoted nearly 6000 quid to have a new one!!!!
Nice one Timm, I have an e93 330i convertible hard top, currently looking at an e64 650i for sale, only 60 000 miles, passes all your checks, small leak from vacuum pump, Airbag light is on though, for passenger tensioner, and steering light on for active steering lock, his asking 7000 pounds, I'm offering him 5000, he seems to be slowly considering, what do you think of those warning lights? I'm craving the v8, even though I'm happy with my straight 6 cylinder, if I get the 650 I may sell the 330i, I'm from South africa
The 650i is very different to the 330i, a completely new generation of driving feel. The pre-tensioner is probably straight-forward, but active steering lock I wouldn't have a clue!
That is the over-turn protection system - the headrests extend to protect the occupants if the car overturns. They can be pushed back down again, but this is something I have not personally done.
...funny idea instead of... ...drive fast enough => then no water will come into the rear window-opening ! BytheWay => I love this rear window for longer trips in summertime on the "Autobahn" in certain climate conditions => you get much better "fresh" air as from the air-condition and you have nearly no noise => E64 => best car evert!
Thank you an excellent tips. I have BMW650I 2007, I knew about the opening top with the fob remote BUT never knew about the closure with the key turning and hold. After 16 years driving the car it’s my first time coming cross such as excellent tips. I think it’s the less use of the soft top operation can get things stuck. I have been using W40 once a year for the mechanism parts it does help BUT not over doing it. Those cars are wonderful and safe to drive. I have been driving the BMW 6 series for the last 35 years. Beautiful very stable on the road with excellent brake power. In the middle rooftop there is a small plastic covering the manual locking and unlocking broken. Anyone knows where I can get this part from? What’s called? Tried on eBay but was unsuccessful. Appreciate any help should anyone knows. Thank and God bless.
Hi Tim, love your videos, and they've been a huge help. I wanted a 4 seater convertible and found very few models that appealed to me until I came across the 650. Your videos gave me the confidence to buy one several years old. I also liked that your 650 is not black, white, or grey. To me it's a work of art, give it some color! It took weeks of searching and then a purchase across the country, but I now have a 2007 in Atlantic Blue with cream/beige interior. I am loving it! Thanks again! Here's a quick video ruclips.net/video/GXuJUm29VpI/видео.html
Love the wood in that one Ravi! I looked at a 650i in that colour when I was first looking, but it sold before I could bid. It took a year to find the one I have now, yes, silver, black or white and there are hundreds of them!

Glad to help and hope your experience of the E64 is as good as mine!
I despise when that happens! But that trick has been handy on a number of occasions.
Yes, a real pain - at least we know what to do!
Time, you are the best! I've been watching your videos for a couple of years now, anticipating the day one of these problems will arise on my E64. The Boseman poke saved the day! You're the best! 😊
We can all thank Mr Boesman!
Timm thank you,You still have the best BMW/650 channel hands down 👍👍👍👍
Glad you think so Trevis!

Thank goodness for Boesman! Lubricate the fulcrum points and it will not happen again
I found that a few months ago when my roof got stuck half way through. Saved me a whole lot of trouble and expense.
Yes, it's a great trick Fred!
Hi Timm this is Alvin your number one fan. When should you replace your gas cap?
ALVIN! Great to hear from you! The fuel cap should never need replacing, no wear parts on it....
Thanks Timm, very useful to know.
Glad you enjoyed it Eoin!

I've used some bicycle chain lube

Hello Tim, my lower right reverse light bulb is gone. Can I replace it without removing the bumper?
Not according to the TIS - the bumper trim has to come off, and that's something I have not done yet...
I give u 10000 like for this video ❤
Give it to Mr Boesman!
I have an e46 M3 convertible that flashes red lights. Is this a similar issue? I've tried everything and am still stuck.
