Honestly.. just bring it up to temp and hold at 2000 rpm 60 Sec, then bring it up to 3000 next 60 sec then drive it.. take it easy 1st week then forget about it.. i also installed a rebuilt 350 vette motor and did it the same way after the install and the staged break in I then proceeded to run it like i stole it.. this was in 1990 and the motor has been through 6 vehicles the last one in a 1990 chevy 4x4 extended cab and to my knowledge its still running today... Strong as all get out!! 😊

If it's a fresh build and a flat tappet Cam was installed, there's only one way that break-in can go for success !⚒️

My awesome , old boss Dave Berrera got GM crate 5.3 and did a burnout with the Bias Plies for over 5 minutes without leaving the shop
. That motor lasted longer than the body did on the rail truck he bought at auction. That was over 15 years ago. Think he said it was 5500$.Canadian

This comes from a ring manufacturer that doesn't comprehend piston ring placement and purpose.
The top ring is the only compression ring. The second ring is an oil scraper, it is designed to remove excess oil from the cylinder wall, hence its negative taper relative to the bore axis. The third ring is called the oil control ring because it controls oil distribution during piston rise. The two piece "total seal" ring is placed where the the oil scraper belongs. Doing so nearly balances combustion gas pressure between the second ring and the chamber, thereby unseating actual compression, or top ring.
If you're sold on total seal rings, leave the top ring out... Oh wait, you'll likely wonder why the piston crown separated.

From someone who knows little to nothing about this, but finds it interesting. How do I know which of you and Total Seal is right?

500 mile at the speeds of 55 mph and the next 300 miles at 65 mph and the last 200 at speeds of 70 mph after that you can go all the way up to 80 mph,
At the 500 mark Mark you do need to change the oil recommended for the first 500 miles break-in is a light weight oil, can do a 30 weight even or a heavyweight 20 oil and when you do your oil change after the 500 mile you can go up to a 15/30 weight and after the 1000 mile do a normal 5/30 Castrol GTX
