The “collector edition” aspect is a marketing gimmick ONLY. There’s nothing different about this from a regular DC Multiverse figure, except for chrome lettering and a card stand. Definitely NOT worth the additional price. At least Todd does many other items that have a lot more value than this line.
2:52 Zero Hour. This Hawkman was an attempt to fix continuity and combine the “multiverse of Hawkmen” into one avatar. The picture on the box/card is from Brightest Day #5, 16 years after Zero Hour’s publication.
Todd McFarlane is still living back in 1994 with the "collector's edition" nonsense.
As long as he is not charging more, I don’t care what he writes on the boxes.
Worst part is he's charging $30 for this line💀
@@brianng8350oh cupcake that’s what you are so confused about
He IS charging more!!! You think that figure is worth 30.00? Yet people complain about Marvel Legends. I much rather stick with Hasbro
So your reply was kinda wasted there
@@Christian_Ada1Hasbro sucks. I'd rather spend on Mcfarlane, though not perfect, every release has new molds. Not like Gummy jointed legends, still using bucky cap buck in 2023.
True actually
The excuse I keep seeing people use on FB for the Collector's Editions is that they are less popular characters that won't sell as well, so they are produced in lower numbers at higher prices to make them worth it to McF. You're telling me Hawkman and Sinestro aren't popular enough characters but Kid Flash and Ghost-Maker are just top-tier figures being demanded by the fanbase so they get standard release? Yeah, ok. Keep paying these ridiculous for minimal effort products.
Uh-oh! The body separating from the arm (or vice versa) was quite funny! Although, that inadvertent “feature” is not very “Collector Edition” quality collectors come to expect. Limbs popping off seem to be a common occurrence for the McFarlane figures - and it is such a shame. The Hawkman figure is not bad, but as is usual from this company, it could have been so much better. Thank you for sharing, Anthony!
well said
Gorilla glue easy fix.🙄
Well sure... but we are paying for these action figures. (Action figures should not fall apart on the consumer/collector). We shouldn't have to use glue to fix or mend an issue. We shouldn't have to correct something the company could have easily prevented.@@glennjthompson332
I prefer classic Hawkman or 80s pulp Hawkman, so this is an easy pass for me. I'll wait for one of those and then years longer for Hawkgirl/woman to go with them.
The wings look like reuse from the Spawn Redeemer figure, so maybe that's why they don't feel right for him.
I feel the same way about Hawkman as a character, his personality isn't super interesting but he has a really cool design with a interesting weapon choice of a mace and he's just kind of a badass.😅
I've been primarily a DC collector since I got into this "hobby" but I'm pretty much at my breaking point. There is no way, even in hyper-inflated 2023, that a figure with a big rubber diaper and minimal paint apps is worth $30. And no, filling the box with crap that isn't related to action figure collecting does not add value. This line has had a few hits but the low price was, IMO, the only thing keeping it going. $30 a pop, for figures like this? Get outta here. I'll just keep my damn money.
Agreed
Not a big fan of Hawkman either but would like to see the Justice League cartoon version of Hawkman/Hawkgirl for nostalgia reasons.
You were in cracking form in this review, Mister Anthony! Haha! I do not know what it is - but it is refreshing to see you having proper fun during one of your reviews. I have had quite the exigent day here at hospital, so I must thank you for bringing me some much-needed joy during work hours. You were chuffed, dear boy, and so that in turn had an extraordinary effect on me. Thank you for that.
As far as Hawkman is concerned, I myself fancy Classic Hawkman. This Zero Hour ‘Collector Edition’ is rather naff, but I reckon it should satiate DC collectors for the time being. Lastly, as is typically the case, the cards that come packaged with the figures are there to remind you, the collector, just how much better the artwork is on the card, rather than the three dimensional/tangible figure you have in hand.
Arrivederci,
Giovanni Marino, M.D.🇬🇧
I’ve always have a soft spot for Hackman or other characters with special features. I have the Super Powers one from 80s or 90s(?).
This looks good but weird at the same time - with the long hair and hairy chest & arms and the colors are different.
When hawkman broke and fell out the frame! 😂😂
Regarding the lack of cake recently, I think the recently announced Wonder Woman will be getting this year's cake budget. I would like a Hawkman in my collection (preferably a classic one) but with the major issue with the stress mark on the diaper and other engineering issues- easy pass. You would think Mcfarlane toys would know the basics of toy engineering by now, yet they fail frequently. Overrated toy company.
Hopefully it doesn’t look like Supergirl’s butt. Man what a sight….
I hope McFarlane pays Finch and the other artists whose work he uses on the boxes.
willing to bet the dc license includes artwork for the packaging
They fires the cake guy hahaha they ran out of cake after that Catwoman xDD
the was a movie hawkman before i thnk
I went through the 5 stages of grief watching this review.
These collectors editions suck. They could've been awesome if they added extra paint but they didn't. Its funny how they can't even put the right picture of the character on the card but give you a whole stand to display it like its important.
Yeah, he should be called Pigeon Man for the wings...
Instead of it saying “Mcfarlane collector edition” because Todd himself is so obsessed with his own name, if should’ve said “Hawkman collector edition” it is really stupid how Todd himself has his name more on the box then the actual figures name.
They already have a better pair of articulated Hawkman wings that came with the Batman Who Laughs, I don't understand why they didn't use them for the actual Hawkman.
cost... most definitely cost.
@@AnthonysCustoms definitely, they were just lazy, and used some spare redeemer wings from the Spawn line.
Todd McFarlane re-released that Spawn and Batman 2pk, signed the cards, slapped a Gold Label on it, and raised the price to 79.99, nothing new about the figures and didn't even repaint them. We get it McFarlane, these figures were made by McFarlane.
Wait is the classic painted variant in the normal box? If so maybe that is why this variant is in the spiffy but pointless collectors packaging. Some cool things going on here though, the classic painted one is just eye popping and obviously familiar. I may end up getting that one. Excellent review!
I'm so confused about the Collector Edition figures, they don't come with much and the figures themselves aren't particularly better either?
Hawkman at first you could think Oh maybe the wings up the price, but Redeemer in the Spawn line is the same, maybe bigger (In my opinion Better Looking) and I might be mistaken but it seems to me like the wings are Reuse from the Redeemer itself
that elbow joint is a beaut Clark
I've always thought hawkman looked really cool land only cared for his lore once I learned about it from the cw verse. Having a figure with a giant mace and Hawkings was always so badass when I was a kid
I love the wings but the way they did thechest hair looks weird to me
This should be good enough for nostalgia fans. Those who loved their Total Justice Hawkman back then, like me. I'm still considering if that butterfly joint is not too weird enough. :D
I probably will get this figure (on the secondary market for £15 instead of £29), because whenever I look at him I hear Manowar start playing from somewhere.
Are the wings the same parts as the ones that came on Redeemer?
I haven't checked. I'll get back to you.
They appear to be
@@AnthonysCustoms Good to know! Might be worth part swapping!
the classic hawkman is a platinium edition(repaint)
This figure is dope I dig it . But mine also jeeps popping off from the shoulder .
Should give Firestorm a shot, one of their best
have him already. review soon
#JusticeForTheCakeGuy
I bought it at Target by online and I get it with the classic version colors, wtf? Someone explain me please
He should go back to having diorama stands like the old movie maniacs had for the collector edition figs.
I can’t wait to get my nft of this figure.. one thing that did change with collectors edition was the price, 30 dollars now. Todd is going full boomer and that’s coming from one.
He put out the other version and it sold out on BBT
So, the same arm fell off of mine too. I thought it was just me.
good comparison
This version of Hawkman is bland, I shelled out $70 for the platinum edition is which a lot of DC fans like myself were hoping for. Now Mr. McFarlane we need a classic version of Plastic Man
Reuse from redeemer spawn for the wings
words of regret " i dont care about nipples" :D :D
They do have better wings 🪽 at their disposal like that Batman who laughs which is dc all the way but went with a spawn characters wings . …. Overall he does look good though
Plus I’ve never seen anyone use those stupid card stands the plastic could of been used for way cooler things maybe hands a mace affect 🤷🏼♂️✌🏼
Well? It stands on it’s own with wings? That’s a first for McFarlane. So that’s something I guess?
fair point
Lol, in addition to giving us reviews on action figures, Anthony also now gives us real-time feedback on his own jokes.
Zero percent - would not laugh again. 😂😂😂 10:10
i like where your head's at but i said i regret the joke zero percent.
You are THE MAN Anthony. One of, I’d not THEE best reviewers on RUclips. Everything you said in your last Haslab video is exactly what you said in this one. Keep it all up, you’re doing a great job with your brand.
I appreciate that!
Feels like Todd hates making these and out of spite, he just tags them as collector's edition to charge extra but still find ways to screw fans from getting a "perfect" figure.
Signature series is ok. Collector's stuff is just weird
honestly mcfarlane figures are so stiff and weird looking, personally 1 out of maybe 30 releases are good or at least worthy.
McF isn't fooling anyone with the collector edition price. $30 because it comes with a collector card that doesn't match the toy and some goofy stand for said card? What? Nobody wants that junk. If the card was new art made to match the toy, I'd absolutely keep that. But if the card art doesn't match the toy, or it's a photo of the toy, it's going in the trash.
I don't care about the collectors edition card holder nonsense, I just throw all my McFarlane cards in a ziploc bag anyway
I cannot stop focusing on the tiny hand.
McFarlane puts out so much stuff where I see the announcement or the render and think about a preorder...
And then I see what is actually included in the box and I pass, even on clearance.
Bruh love your reviews 😂
much appreciated
McFarlane is just as bad as ML, just for totally seperate reasons. They are generally painted better, but they have minimal to no accessories, the articulation is always meh and those GD diapers kill me. How hard is it for multi million dollar companies, to make decent figures? God forbid we'd get our monies worth, eh? Sik
People do love ❤️ Hawkman
Hawkman is wearing the Thundercats logo. 😂
Mcfarlane has made one other Hawkman, recently, with the Black Adam movie release. I was not a fan of that figure and 50/50 on this release.
i shouldve been more clear in saying "comic" hawkman.
@AnthonysCustoms no problem, I didn't mean it in a rude way. Also thanks for saving me $30. Love your videos
I didn't take it to be rude. Thanks
I wonder if Hawkman poops on people's windshields?
I’m so irritated w these “collector” editions. Jesus can’t “hawk”man at least get a flight stand ? I’m also tired of tiny or massive hands. Powder skin. Gummy weapons. I have a decent sized mcfarlane dc collection going but I’ve yet to buy a single 30 dollar figure from him. He’s just charging extra for legacy characters. Is anyone surprised the seemingly nice wonderwoman is of the same line? No we are not. They should have given him the sky tyrant Batman who laughs wings like most folks conclude. You know what I’ll just keep my Mattel and dc direct Alex Ross hawkman and call it a day. Thanks for the review Anthony. You’re a godsend.
Figure looks good to me but teah they painted the furry chest hair but not the nipples.
I think Yodd may have been watching FLASH GORDON when thinking about this one.
....
FLASH!
AH AHHHH!
😂
(Couldn't resist.)
I love THIS version of Hawkman. I don't care about any other.
Is Todd an egotist? This cards blow. Weird how the platinum version is the version most people wanted.
I personally don't care about anything McFarlane puts out. I like Hawkman, but never seen this version. I don't follow DC much but I still like some characters and I never seen this version and never needed to. I will never ever get why there are McFarlane fans other than its the only choice they have for DC at the moment. Not counting Mafex that makes a few here and there. For a character who always has his shirt off, he sure is white as all hell.
Their proportions are almost always terrible. Almost always a big goofy rubber diaper. Only a belt will hide it on some figs. Their legs are almost always bull legged. Just goofy ass figures yet McFarlane fans just eat it up. (just looking at the comments I already see fans eating it up. Loving it. Really? You love it? that?) And 7"... I just can't stand 7" figures. I really hope another company is allowed to make DC figures someday soon. For now I'll just get Mafex when they make a character I care enough about.
Been collecting DC figures since Super Powers days. Wouldn't touch a single McFarlane release. Weird and ugly articulation, off model designs, weird scales. Not a fan at all.
You never satisfied bro with the figures
What did you think you clicked on? It says review in the title.
Todd needs to stop this chase bullshit. The hawkman everyone wants is the “chase” soo annoying.
The platinum one? I think the classic colors on this body look horrible
Theses toys are for kids with imaginations not really for grown men who r picky
No. They're not.
At first glance this looked amazing. With a better look, it's an unfinished thing. To me it's been:
McFarlane = Quantity over Quality
Won't be getting too many from them anymore, maybe none
So he has a classic coming. Which is a repaint of this one which is utterly lazy and ridiculous. SMH. I mean that's some Marvel legends nonsense. Classic never had long hair. Or the feathery helmet. The gloves are not at all what the classic has. Todd has gotten lazy. The jokerized figures are a great example of that. This figure looks okayl as a zero hour Hawkman. When he actually looked like that. But repainting him in classic colors and trying to pass him off as retro is just shameful. Also the box with fancy letters? Yeah, he is charging more for a fancy box. Todd needs to stop looking in Hasbro's playbook. Soft weapon?? Yep, Todd needs to stop doing Hasbro's playbook. LOL...when detached from his arm on you....that brought me back to when I got his Etrigan. LOL
I don't mind lazy repaints as long as they generate the funds for good releases down the line
Honestly a ripoff I'd rather buy a neca
