I got the Marvel Select Invisible Woman yesterday for the same $30 MSRP as Firestorm here. The Invisible Woman figure isn’t perfect. Marvel Select has come a long way, but they’re still a few years behind the curve in terms of articulation, digital printing etc. However, in spite of those shortcomings, the amount of care and effort that went into it is obvious, and it comes with a generous amount of accessories and display options, especially by today’s standards. It’s very disenchanting that there seems to be an inverse relationship between the size of the budget and the size of the heart when it comes to toy companies these days.
When I see the flame effects I wonder why the same amount of effort that they put into the zombie Green Lantern translucent effect pieces could not have been used for this figure's hands and flaming head to make them look better. The figure should have included a floating translucent head of Martin Stein on a clear peg stand and or something to attach to the figure's shoulder. That way you could justify the higher price point more.
When I was a kid, I was home sick from school watching TV when I knew I needed to get to the bathroom. I ran, but I didn't make it, throwing up all over the bathroom floor my lunch that day of Franco American Spaghetti. When I look at the effect hands on this figure, I see that puddle of regurgitated canned spaghetti staring back at me from my bathroom floor.
yeah I would be more forgiving of these releases if the price wasnt $10 more for the exact same quality, great review as alway! I like the figure, BUT it has a lot of draw backs
Not very articulated without modding the figure. For example the ab crunches lol. What the hell happened in the past decade, Todd? Even the vaunted great figure detail of the past is kinda meh today.
As someone who's favourite versions of the DC characters are the old 80s Jose Garcia-Lopez designs, I should be loving these 'classic' versions of characters, but honestly they're just making me more glad I stuck with my DCUC collection and never got on board with McFarlane. Those old Mattel figures knew how to do bright, comic book colours.
Yeah I got most of the DCUC figures, bought those on retail at $8-$12 at the time. It’s an awesome classics line.. enjoyed the hunt, figures, price..glad I got those..
If mcfarlane didn't have the bad torso articulation, bad ankle articulation, bad diapers, no paint, ugly joints, bad proportions and were in the same scale as most other superhero figures they would be awesome figures. Shame all these unique sculpts go to waste :(
@@AnthonysCustoms ok well it might be artist specific but there are a couple.. im trying to give him something to be positive about.. not much there bro.
The BTAS-style, DCAU Justice League cartoon is more than 20-years-old at this point so it now qualifies as retro/vintage rather than modern, and that is quite a strange, strange reality, personally. Time flies super fast.
You may not have any interest in G.I. Joe, or collect them, but I’d be interested to see your review on a few classified series figs. Hasbro seems to be sinking more effort into those figures, in my opinion. The Joe team just seems to care more than the others. I’d be curious as to what you thought.
What I can't get past is his eyes. he's supposed to have black around his eyes, like a mask. You shouldn't see separate eyebrows. He just doesn't read as Firestorm to me. Look at the old Super Powers Firestorm and see what he's supposed to look like.
This is unrelated to this video but have you considered doing a top 10 storm collectibles list? I'd really like to see one. Either way keep up the good work Anthony!
I'm really not enjoying almost anything McFarlane has been making recently- the faces, the body molds, the power sets, and a lot of them look terrible when articulated. I did get the Dark Knight Joker and the Doomsday 2-pack half price, but that's about all I'm willing to pay for anything McFarlane these days. These are worth $10/figure, as they are mediocre kids toys, not adult collectibles.
🤣 your McF comments are spot on. All the Batman heads are extremely small compared to Superman (Knightfall to Hush superman). McFarlane is the Abercrombie and Fitch of toy brands.
Mister Anthony, I cannot asseverate this maxim enough, mate-your honesty is always appreciated. Many thanks to you, good sir!👍 Cheers, Giovanni Marino, M.D.🇬🇧
Well... at least McFarlane seems to be moving away from the endless monstrous, zombie versions of Batman. Lately they've been making a few figures like this one where they're pretty close to a classic look and at first glance, they look pretty promising. Then you take a closer look and it just falls apart. Anything even remotely tempting seems to be this "Gold Label" series which I don't understand. Is that a sub line? Why separate it from the rest? And I don't get the 29.99 price at all. All remaining temptation gets nuked right there.
Anthony thank you for helping me not buy things. I mean that w all sincerity. It’s been really nice to escape FOMO with your soothing yet razor sharp tongue and no I’m not hitting on you. Yet.
A mustard and a ketchup hero. looks delicious 😅 maybe if they have more curve/v shape muscular in tummy area i guess they could escape the narrow chest. But I think it is again the best example of mcfarlane company have two different designers. the one who design the upper half and another person on the lower half. 😢
The sculpt is nice, but the proportions are obviously off. The color is acceptable but it should be bright yellow and red. But the fire effects shone much better - keep the transparent plastic and minimize the paint.
This one seemed so close to being good, but yeah looks off up close. Firestorm is such a fun character too. It's been around for a while, but can you checkout the McFarlane 90s Superboy. I don't know if it's just me but the head sculpt just looks super goofy. There's no other superboy figures though.
I should have listened more to this the first time I watched it. Opened mine today and was so frustrated with the blasted lower body articulation I just about snapped the legs off out of spite. The human leg can overall rotate to make the feetl turn almost 180 degrees. Range on this thing? Maybe 20-30 degrees. McFarlane is the most maddening toy maker on the planet. Amazing at some things. Horrendous at others. Virtually never produce a "complete" fig, meaning one that doesn't have at least one big 'wtf?!" element in it.
This is the one I've been waiting for. I wanted to pre-order, but the images kept me from doing so. Something just didn't look right. Now I know what. Very disappointing as Firestorm is a favorite character of mine. Not sure why they used the unrelated art on the packaging. Nice to see more accessories. But, yeah, everything you said tracks. I have the original Kenner Super Powers Firestorm and it's still better and more accurate than this. The Mattel DC Universe Classics isn't perfect, but I still like it better. Mega has an 8 inch figure coming out. If it looks good, I'll grab it. I keep passing on the McFarlane DC Multiverse line. Did you review the Flashpoint Flash figure? I've been considering that one if I can ever get it from Target if I can ever manage to order it in time when it's in stock for 2 seconds.
Anthony must have been hangry giving this review. All he kept talking about was food stuff. I bet if he had eaten prior to the review, that 5 would have at least been a 6! lol. Those flame effects look like throw up, or that slime stuff they used at Nickelodeon. I used to buy that fake Nickelodeon throw up slime stuff for my kids back in the day. They should have made those flames transparent like they did with the Flash's lightning effects.
I stopped collecting mcfarlane aong time ago, I dont know if its just me all of mcfarlaen figures looks so off when theyre all together and the diaper is rippable material which I hate and the weird proportions.
I really don’t see how McFarlane is making money on this line given all the complaints. There are paint issues, sculpt issues, scale issues, pricing issues, articulation issues. The whole line is more miss than hit. At least for me. I love Firestorm but seeing him in the store I just couldn’t bring myself to spend my money on him he looks so janky and half-assed. Like so many of the Multiverse figures. The one thing that I truly question is the design of the hips. What is with the diaper? Seriously, it limits the movement of the legs on every figure. And you know it’s just going to stretch out and split over time. And pinned joints? Still? I feel like Todd is just laughing at us. Laughing all the way to the bank because I guess plenty of people will buy these no matter what. Ok, rant over.
I am sorry but it is. First of all they all have outdated articulation. I am also considering that. My DCUC and Icons (I am not even mentioning the Legends of Tomorrow one) Firestorms will never pose or even look as good as this one besides all his flaws.@@AnthonysCustoms
Firestorm is one of my favorite DC characters. As far as his cotume, I much prefer the New 52/modern style. It is more sleek. That being said this is a figure I´m going to get and if they re-release him with the modern costume I´ll get him again. PS The image in the back is from the New 52. At the beginning of the series both characters that combine into Firestorm could change individually (one would just have nuclear fire and the other could transmutate). One had a mostly red orange costume and the other mostly yellow. And they had the puffy sleeves because of that. When they finalyy combined into one then they took on the more traditional look but sleek. As for the figure itself, besides of a flying stand I wished it would have come would a transmutation effect; similar to what the Atom does/has when shrinking. And I wish that either DC would give Firestorm a solo series or add him to the Justice League or another team. He´s one of the most powerful characters in DC.
I'm done collecting. I haven't bought a figure in over 2 years and I'm not going to. I can't afford expensive imports and domestic figures are just ass garbage now. Best of luck to all you guys still wasting money on crappy plastic... I'm over it. Sik
If you could afford the crappy domestic figures, the imports can cost anywhere from the 35 and up. Save the money from 2 ML figures and you have an import. You'll enjoy saving for better figures and still get to collect.
Not the best version at all. The colors are horrible. DC collectibles Brightest Day Firestorm is MUCH better. Todd definitely dropped the ball on this one. Great review. Canceling my preorder after this video lol. 100% not worth it.

Reminds me of their Arkham City Catwoman. Looks like the upper half of a 6 inch scale figure on the legs on a 7 inch figure.
yeah I would be more forgiving of these releases if the price wasnt $10 more for the exact same quality, great review as alway!
I like the figure, BUT it has a lot of draw backs
my fave super powers fig took it with me everywhere 😂
Aha! Keeping it real, 100% of the time, Anthony! Thank you for sharing! My kids and I thoroughly enjoyed the video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
McFarlane makes articulated statues. They have parts that move, but few of them have enough actual poseability to be called "action figures".
Not very articulated without modding the figure. For example the ab crunches lol. What the hell happened in the past decade, Todd? Even the vaunted great figure detail of the past is kinda meh today.
Its called Superfriends . The coolest superhero cartoon back then.
DCUC firestorm is a great figure! I was hopeful for this figure. This is $30 i can put toward the Lobo w/ Bike.

They really did
"but I am a big ball kind of guy" ahahahahahaha. Wow - now that's what the Toddfather calls a Collection Edition?
Put him in a pizza to get the effect enhanced...or put him behind a chili dog. The designers are so thoughtful, lol.
These reviews always crack me up
THIS is the review i've been waiting for! 😎👍
7:30 you're right, they didnt actually have to spare any expense when they made those cheap stands!
