Did my passenger side mirror today. Took about 30 to 35 minutes. I did not completely remove the door panel or the window trim. I let the panel rest on a chair while I changed the mirror, and only lifted the window trim enough to be out of the way. You dont have to remove the door/window control panel either. There is only ONE screw behind that plastic "wood" looking panel, and its at the very forward side. I do this stuff in Aviation. Advice: only remove what you need to in order to reach what you need to
Thanks a million for the video! I figured once I took it apart it would go back together the same way. NOPE! That window felt/weatherstripping was a pain until I watched you do it the right way. Thanks again!
Thank you so much editor for making this video, although I don’t always have the patience for this type of thing my spouse, my wife took on this project and play your video through inception, and then took it step-by-step, and it took her an hour and 10 minutes by her self, and as you stated, the tough part was doing backwards after the install to put everything back in place. This video was spot on, and should be a favorite for anyone installing their own mirror
Great video, I am sure I'll use the entire process someday😂, but for the mirror replacement I was able to just peal back that corner and had access to the wiring harness after removing the panel above the window, and the 5 of the door panel pins closest to the top left corner of the door below the mirror!
Thanks for your video. Helped me replace my broken mirror assembly yesterday. I'm out of state in school for the Navy with limited cash flow and resources...dealership wanted an arm and leg for just the part and a heart transplant for the labor. I ordered my parts off Amazon. Just only one suggestion..the door panel metal clips that the dust seal slide onto...what a pain to get those out of the door panel used a flat head to pop them out..then it was fine iaw your instructions after that. And the control panel that clicks into place with those 4 silver snap clips ya they all pushed into the door panel had to fish them out..so if anyone comes across those...pop them out of the door panel control assembly first then put them on the panel cover then install otherwise you might loose them from being pushed inward.
How big is the mirror plug. Is it an 8 pin plug? 4 pin? I would like to upgrade my standard mirrors to tow mirrors but need to make sure I get same plug
Mirrors are typically year specific so if you get mirrors make sure they are for your year truck. The plugs should line up accordingly. Look into Boost Auto tow mirrors they have a great lineup of products and unique customizations.
Great video! I'm getting ready to replace my passenger mirror because I hit it backing into my garage and broke it. I'm really glad I found this because I thought that little triangle cover just popped off! That's freaking ridiculous that you have to remove the whole damn door just to get that little cover off! Thanks again because I would have been frustrated as Hell trying to figure it all out.
Dude thanks for sharing your knowledge and skill. I have replace my mirror because the mirror keeps slipping forward. I think I will replace it myself after seeing this video. Thanks.
Thank you for the help. Your video was very informative and allowed me to do this task on my own. Did have a few challenges. Hardest part for me was replacing the trim molding on top part of door. Had a hard time figuring out how to snap it in place. Other challenge was unplugging the harness. I actually left it on and carefully placed panel inside vehicle. Also did not see anything about door latch disassembly. Thanks again you did an excellent job explaining how to do this.
Yves Gagnon you probably need to add wiring to make the lighting work. Especially if your truck didn’t have lights on the mirror before. Glad it helped though.
I haven't replaced my mirror yet. I just received it today. A driver got so close to me last week that I had to swerve into the median and they still got close enough to me to hit my driver's side mirror. They didn't stop of course. Anyway, I can't believe GM put the connector to the mirror assembly behind the door panel making you have to remove the entire panel just to replace it.
Dang, glad you are OK. Yea, the connector being behind the door panel is a PITA. I remember the old days on my 2002 Silverado, all you had to do was remove the little triangle piece on the interior adjacent to the mirror and that revealed all the screws and the connector. It was a piece of cake to replace those mirrors. Good luck with your replacement, thanks for watching.
This video was very helpful. I used this video to remove a dent on my door panel. Thank you.... but one slight little problem i get the drivers window to operate... any ideas?
I have to replace my mirror on my 2018 texas edition...my question is i have power mirrors no turn signals or light on the original but if i get some that have those features will it work? Thanks
Most likely no. You'd have to run some extra wiring and hook it up to the BCM to get those extra functions. Look into some aftermarket mirrors, like from Boost Auto. They sell a great set of towing mirrors and sport mirrors with extra functions baked in, and they provide the how to for the extra wiring. Good Luck.
This video helped a lot, I just have an issue with my lights not working properly, I turn truck off and the mirror moves by itself for like a whole minute. Do you know why?
Does a replacement mirror come with the wiring attached and you just thread it in from the outside and attach to the connector inside the door? Thanks.
