    I have a 2015 Trance and this last spring (2023) I rebuilt the frame for the third time.Sooner or later it will be time to move on but that bike has been so great and the frame still works great since I take care of it.
    I think I still like the Maestro the best out of what’s out there and they can last a long time.

      mine too. i fear that on my personal Trance (not in the video) one of the bearing sockets might be a little out of tolerance, thus causing the creak. I just had to get over it unfortunately. It is sometimes one of the perils of full suspension.

    This and the bearing video were critical for me in my bearing service. Really well explained, and I feel like I have a much better understanding of my Maestro suspension. My only advice to readers is not to wait 3 years of wet muddy English weather to do this service. My bearings were in rough shape and I had to get the assistance of my LBS to get the upper-rocker-to-frame and lower-rocker-to-chainstay bearings removed.

      this is likely the best mtb tech channel I’ve come across. Few suggestions for videos that are not done well today and that I’d really appreciate to see: fox float 34 fork service, shock service, wheel service.
      Also, assembling the maestro suspension, I think the outer bearings might've been greased bit too much in this video. I’ve had troubles cleaning the grease that escaped when being pressed with the final screws.

    • @richardsbikeshop5268
      @richardsbikeshop5268  3 года назад +1

      @@zemiak7 I have heard the same from other people about the grease. I typically just wipe off the excess after i tighten the bolts. Any time i have removed the bolts, most of the excess grease from installation has already washed away.
      I plan on doing a fork service soon and i'm going to try to explain how everything works so you can apply it to other forks as well.
      Thanks for the kind words about my videos, I am always trying to improve with each video and any feedback is SUPER helpful. I am certainly my own worst critic.

    Hello, great video.
    Would the grease on the outside of the bearings that you are putting on not attract sand/dirt thus turning it into a gritty paste? The bearing seal should keep contaminants out and grease in just as it’s designed for.

    • @richardsbikeshop5268
      @richardsbikeshop5268  3 года назад +1

      That's possible but what I usually see when I clean mine out is no remaining grease in that space at all. Much of it gets rinsed out over time. It is also there to reduce corrosion on the steel races of the bearings.

    Hi I have just replaced the pivot bearings on my 2019 Reign 2 and there is a slight gap left between the chainstay links and where it joins the rocker arm on each side. The bearings look like they are seated all the way in and flush and there is a spacer between the bearing and rocker arm on both sides. The bolts are torqued up to the recommended 15nm too. Am I missing something? Any help appreciated

      Between the carbon part (the upper rocker arm) and the top of the shock body (the part of the shock that is threaded). The other side of the bearing (towards the bolt head) contacts the bolt head via a very small built-in spacer that I mention in the video.

      I highly recommend you do not try to use some other bolt. This is machined specifically for this purpose to the precise tolerance needed. It also has things like the specific shoulder that contacts the inner race of the bearing when installed.

    • @skitz502
      @skitz502 Месяц назад

      the 6 small silver spacers are identical. These go on all three positions of the upper rocker arm. There are two different pairs of slightly larger, darker colored spacers that are different from each other. The tapered spacers are for the rear side of the lower rocker arm and the swing arm. The non-tapered spacers are for the front of the lower rocker arm between the rocker and the front triangle bearings.

    Hi, first of all thanks for the video!
    at minute 11:00 you show how to mount the upper part of the shock (trunnion part) and you show the two grey spacers to insert before connecting the shock. the problem i have is that when i add the spacers the shock won’t fit in, do you have any advice for this problem?

    • @richardsbikeshop5268
      @richardsbikeshop5268  Год назад +1

      Yes. This is a common issue. Start by trying to install the shock to the upper rocker with the rocker disconnected from everything else. If that doesn't work, you need to press out the bearings ever so slightly. It is easiest to do with the maestro kit I use in the video.

    • @richardsbikeshop5268
      @richardsbikeshop5268  3 года назад

      In the bearing video in this series I talk about this a little bit. Turn the bearings and feel if they are rough to turn. Also see if you can move the inner race of the bearing side-to-side. the thing you'll notice while the bike is built up is usually noise in the pivots.

    Instantly subd! Perfect amount of detail in the explanation and very clear and specific. Quick question about bearings because I'm about to order some for me 2017 trance. All of the original ones say 6900 VRS, 6800 VRS etc. Is it ok to replace with the same 6800/6900 but 2RS instead of VRS? 2RS is readily available. From what I understand VRS is used for high speed full rotation applications, which the pivot linkages definitely do not undergo. Would the 2RS versions be ok?

    At 11:00, you talk about the mistake of not adding the spacer for the upper rocker arm. I am putting my wife's 2015 Liv Lust 1 back together. It appears there was no spacer there when I took it apart, and the frame seems to be "built out" right there and appears to be identical to the size of a spacer. When I tried to add a spacer, the rocker arms (there are two and they are split) seem wobbly and appears too wide to the connection to the top of the shock. Have you worked on a Liv like this one?
