I competed against Casey back in 1970. He was awesome. I stopped by New Iberia and watched him train. He was not doing Nautilus but was doing many sets. He trained harder than anyone I had seen before. A perfect match both genetically and mentally for Arthur Jones system.
I saw Casey when he won the Mr. U.S.A. in New Orleans and when he won the America. I also saw him training in the Quansic hut behind the Deland High School with Arthur Jones and the two Anderson brothers from the Troy football team as spotters. I was not there when he did the still talked about twenty three minute routine that absolutely no other person on earth could have followed him through but that was a different time and place. Arthur has just invented the torso pullover machine which he had in New Orleans in the corner with Boyer Coe who told me the secret to being cut was diet and pharmaceutical assistance. A different time and a different place as I had just toured out of South East Asia after two tours in a city known as Hue. Casey died young as did both of the Mentzer brothers sad.
I was at that contest and I can tell you Casey was beyond belief. His muscularity and definition were staggering. I believe he would have easily beaten Ken Waller. He had the crowd going crazy when he posed.
Casey should have definitely won the 1982 Mr. Olympia with Zane second! They really did a number on him. Samir looked good but he did not looked tan enough. By the way I have the film from this contest and Mike Mentzer deserved a way better place than 10th!
Back then ,the Mr. A winner did a monthly column for Hoffman...was it MD or S&H? For some reason Casey only did a single installment, but it had some interesting takes on his training.
In 1977 I worked out with Pete at the Orange Avenue Gym in Orlando. He was very easy to get along with and extremely impressive. His delts were the best I've ever seen and tended to overshadow is arms, which were 19" pumped.
Allowing the use of steroids in body building ruined the sport. There is no way a clean body builder can compete against steroids. I know because I was a bodybuilder in the late 60’s & early 70’s.
In my opinion, Casey was FAR better than Dickerson in '82, & should have won. Dickerson, of course, was coming off a string of Grand Prix wins over the last couple of years. He was in good shape, though - it was by no means a robbery.
You put out good content but you are to loyal to Arnold 1st win cheated Oliva by Joe W & Reg Park already retired!, 2nd Nobody in the show, 3rd who you have Frank z, Columbo, 4th Robbie robbed by Joe W , 5th Mike M Robbed 1980 Arnold skinny! What left! 7-5 = 2 Mr O by cheating
Casey Viator is one of my favorite bodybuilders of that era. He had incredible development at such a young age!

Mighty Casey! His feats of strength in training were legendary. What a beast he was...
Love your shows and research....amazing job John. Not easy to accumulate this history detail! You are an asset to history!
Thank you, I appreciate the nice comment! 💪
Mike mentzer remarked to me in 74 that viator was an absolute animal and he was a big influence on his bb career
Anyone not around at the time would have no idea the effect Viator had on bodybuilding when he virtually exploded on the scene.
Thanks John for such historical videos. Truly refreshing.
You do a truly tremendous job John!! Thank you for your hard work. 💪🙏👍
Thank you
Thank you John,
One of my favorite bodybuilder of all time , super genetically gifted.

Thanks for the support
Casey was special. Thanks for this info.
I still have my first weights. Two 10KG WEIDER plates....They were given to me in 1980...but I think they're way older.
That's super impressive looking like that at 19.
Powerful looking physique wish he was still around.

For the 1971 Mr America Casey actually trained on a full body workout 3 days a week doing 20 reps every set.

Casey was massive in his Mr. America win of 1971.
Yeah he looked crazy for that time and how young he was

Chris Dickerson won in 82. Samir won in 83.
@@justinriley8651he didn't say Samir won
@Tabish29 he made it sound like he did also mike mentzer retired in 1980 and wasn't in the 82 olympia.
@@justinriley8651 I think he's talking about mentzer in the Mr. America contest.
@Tabish29 I don't know. I just know he wasn't in the 82 olympia! he wasn't in the 82 America either! do you agree with that or do you wanna argue?

Johnny maldonado just passed away
That was a great contest I remember it well. I really thought Saint John should have been placed second. He was sharper than Pete.
I have that old Iron Man magazine.
So mentzer built most of his size using higher volume?
Casey had great forearms, but does he have better arms then mentzer?
If you do high volume, just take a longer rest time.
Did the AAU have rules about hair cuts? Asking based on the pics.
Nope, just the style very common in that era
Pete G really had spaghetti arms compared to the rest of his body parts.
