Great recap. I always saw Unsouled as a fine foundation for the series. It certainly has its problems with its pacing( that’s something a lot of the series suffers from) but I do think this story succeeds because of Will’s characterization of Lindon. You really feel bad for him and Will smartly has every accomplishment hit with a notable setback. Combined with his intellect and perseverance, it’s hard not to like Lindon. Whitehall wasn’t a bad villain and I enjoyed the revelation at the end/ seeing the greater world. So I’d rate the book a solid 7/10. Cradle really gets going at Book three. But Unsouled does it’s job well.
Oh yes, Cradle definitely hits its stride toward the end of book 2 and definitely through noon 3. I feel like the relationships between the main team are my personal highlights of Cradle. So Lindon being alone for so much of Unsouled makes it feel so different from the rest of the series.
