Awesome of you. The best part about RUclips is people like yourself that use this tool to help Others by making how to videos and tutorials. Great job.
Thanks man! That's one of the nicest comments I have ever received! Greatly appreciated!
@@ConstructionKronies For Sure!!!
great and supper talented you are, keep the great work rolling and thanks for sharing
Thanks man!
Very informative video thank you for sharing 🏄😃👍
Nice, interesting and enjoyable video! I really like all that!
Thank you very much!
Nice job Chris! Yeah, 2 routers or stick with the larger one. I always used the thinner one period but went through A LOT of them. Lol. That's when "let the tool do the work!" was beat into my head. It's a tough discipline when in crunch time. Thanks for the vid and God bless! 😁🍻
Haha your absolutely right about that! I was going through 2 to 3 bits a unit now I am using 1 bit for 3 units so that's a HUGE gain! I love the speed of the 1/4" bit. My partner just bought himself a router so we are geared up for using both bits now!! Thanks Dave your the man bro! I am going on day 21 today straight of sheetrock, I wanted to make enough money to buy a new camera and mission accomplished!! Thanks for all your support, keep leaving awesome comments!
As always nice and clean!
Thanks Jason!!
Great vid!
Thanks Man!
Great video! Thank you! Your friend should've stayed and helped tho. That sheet looked heavy, but you got it done like a boss. 💪
Cheers 💪
8:53 sounds like bed trouble.. Lolol jp
Haha you discovered my sound effects side business ....
when you tighten the bit on the router, hold the channel locks opposite way. you have it backwards! just a word of advice, i’m a plumber :)
Cheers man! I usually use the wrench or adjustable for that, but next time I use the channel locks I'll remember that!
15:48 wish I had this advice a while ago. Might've prevented my first kid.
haha man I can't believe I missed this 7 months ago lol!!!
Along with the expert tips on ovals and such, how to drywall into pan decking while keeping deflection, xo
We usually make a template and keep the drywall always 3/4" away from u/s of structure for deflection. Boarding into the flutes isn't something we do anymore since all the new insulation and firestop products that are made for them now but once in a while I hear about someone having to do it. But the template is how I used to do them.
Damn. You are a beast!
Thanks bro!
💙👷 great job. You make it look so easy. Everyone can really learn alot from you. 💙
Thanks Rain! Your the best! Are you feeling better now?
@@ConstructionKronies I was allergic to the steroids they were giving me through the IVs, so now I'm covered in a rash that looks like chicken pox 😳.. so I feel like one big itchy POX lol 😂. Still very sick but I'm going back to Dr. Tomorrow 💙🤗
O my, you take it easy you've been dealing with a lot this year, all the best Rain!
Right on bud seems this is your living but do it in a way and explain it in a way for a diy person love it
Yes yes!! I have been doing videos and live streaming now for a few years and I am getting better every time! I appreciate your feedback!!
@@ConstructionKronies well done keep it up can't wait to see the videos with the new camera ur savin for lol
@@simplevidz6025 Thanks my man!! This is an older video, an oldie but a goodie. I was able to buy the camera and rig it up. I use it for my live streaming and videos. But most of my field stuff is still shot with a GoPro or Phone because of the dirt and all that comes with a construction site. I am building a studio now that I can do all of the different builds we do in moch ups and in a controlled environment. In the end I want to bring you guys the best quality audio / visuals and learning material. Teaching the stuff you know is easy in the field but doing over video on RUclips is very difficult. Well used to be! Thank you for watching and let me know if I can help you at all.
Sweet thanks man very much appreciate the replies, feedback etc.
Its biggest reason I subscribed. Good luck with studio and I will definitely be asking advise I'm currently finishing my basement so ur experience and expertise will come in handy. If it's not too much to ask share some videos of the build or send pictures and I may do the same to get ur opinions and advise.
A quick visual for ya I've kept the ductwork exposed and painted but drywalled everywhere else coming out pretty good.
Cheers
@@simplevidz6025 Man I love that!!! My favorite look is the 1920's art gallery. Exposed mechanical is boss!!! Once we start back up on the studio build (when it gets warmer) I will keep posting!! I would love to see your pics! Are you on the Discord? Anytime you have any specific question let me know!!
That was crazy
Cheers!
how about the poly (vapor barrier) under the drywall? You did not damage it while trimmed the drywall?
Great question. I don't do any damage to the poly with using the cutout tool. Some jobs you need to be careful not to though and sometimes may.have to pre cut your pieces. You will know if it is taped up all around or not. These windows and electrical boxes on this job are caulked and polied straight across so you can cut the.poly and drywall to fit perfectly.
I was taught CCW for outside and CW for inside router jobs, no?
Yes that's right my guy!
Hey Chris Tapers do not like when you used your router in a factory edge joint.
Your right but under these circumstances they are cool with it. The trade off for them is we always have very tight corners. We are only zipping off up to a 1/2". The entire project was designed wrong. The designers forgot to add the extra 1/2" for res bar and 1/2" off the floor so all of the sheets need to be cut. Because we are piece work we need to do that as fast as possible. Good point though!
Provides a good walkthrough of the trade-specific technique, but how is the continuity between the window frame and the vapour barrier achieved now that it's cut like that?
Excellent question. If you are really good and know what your doing you can cut the board like this but there are new rules since making this video and you can't cut the board with a router anymore because they don't want you to damage the poly. Buy since the new rules I have discovered that pre cutting your sheets to fit around windows is faster and better actually.
@@ConstructionKronies Can you elaborate on those rules for us? Is that just for a specific builder or developer or is that an industry-wide directive of some sort?
Can you like do a 720 degrees spin? After watching your 20 minute video I'm still not dizzy yet. 😁😂😁
Dude I'll do a 720 on the hill any day! Cheers!
Why did the bottom piece not have a 1/2" gap to allow for the subfloor or water spillage?
Yes, normally you want to do that but in this building a lot of the sheets ended up on the ground because the ceiling heights are not correct. But the flooring is going to come up another 7/8" and they actually want the board on the ground in some spots. Your totally right though normally you will do that.
👍👍👍😮😮😮👍👍👍 I wish I had your know-how 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks Nutz! I love talking to you with that big brain and heart of yours too!!
About how much would it cost to install the drywall around a window like you did?
This way not expensive at all, 2 sheers of drywall and less than 1 hour to install. Taping is easy just the 2 inside corners and 2 small bevels.
@@ConstructionKroniesWow… Thank you very much for answering my question!
@@Elena-mk6bf Anytime!!!
How are you cutting windows out that are polyed without cutting the vapour barrier with the router bit. All our basements are polyed on the frames of the 12 inch deep bucks to the window frame.
We are pre cutting them now, all windows and doors. Go a 1/4" to 3/8" larger than the plastic. It's actually against code to use the cut out tools (routers) anymore when there is a vapour barrier. Start with the top sheet then the bottom. Draw the window on the sheet, score the lines a utility knife, use a router or drywall saw to cut one side then break it out. They can be really weak in the middle above the opening so if your alone be careful or just put a joint above window. The bottom sheet you set one on a 1/2" PC of drywall and use a lifter to lift the other side into place. You will get it from there. Hope that makes sense
Dam I was worried you were going to say that.
Hey while I have you. On a 9ft ceilings using 4 ft board , Suspended ceilings going in. where’s the 10 inch go. I like the bottom so when I finish I have flats for baseboards. Or else I have to fill the indent.
@@BZ1340 So 9' ceilings are very standard so they make drywall that is 54" wide. Use those for 9' and the 48" for 8' ceilings. If you have already ordered the drywall then add a 12" belly band is what we call it, so right in the middle between the 2 sheets. Its easier to tape and less chance of it cracking. However if your putting suspended ceiling in at 8 foot then put the strip at the top above it so it doesn't have to be taped at all. Does that make sense?
@@ConstructionKronies I'm only 103 in the basement. 54 here is triple the price of 48. I dont like the feather joint at the baseboard level. I have to mud it all in. It's stupid I'm 48 48 and a 7. Ceilings are at the 100 mark. 3 1/2 drop off the joists
How did you cut a perfect shape around the window??
Measure over from the wall and down from the ceiling, draw it on the drywall, score the lines for the window cut out with my utility knife then use the cordless cutout tool. Some jobs you can put the drywall right over the window and then use the cutout tool with a guide point tip to.cut around the window.
Construction Kronies makes sense! Thank you so much!!
@@jonathantiggs4628 right on man! So the key things to remember when doing it like that is especially on wood structures: Take the measurements from where the top and the bottom of each sheets lands and also try to estimate how much extra room you need. For example, I usually come in a 1/4" on the ends of a sheet that will have another sheet tight to it after. This gives you some play room and is why we start on window / door walls and work our way out!
in uk it is very different
I have heard that before, we also do things different in Ontario as opposed to here in Edmonton as well!! Thank you for coming by and taking the time to comment!!
I'm sorry Chris did you have to carry that stuff by yourself you need to watch out for your back you make it look so easy I know it's not keep up the great work any word when you're going live again you take care cheers with a beer
Yeah that rock is heavy 💪. Half-inch rock is 1.6 pounds per square foot 5/8 rock is 2.31 pounds per square foot. I'm assuming he's using 5/8 and you said these sheets were 10 as opposed to 12ft other day. So these sheets right here are 93 lb a piece! 💪
Yep these were 5/8" 10ft sheets. We use 5/8" for 90% of our walls. The next video I am editing now has me doing full 12's on my own on the window wall lol. Thanks Jason!!
No word yet on when I can go live again, I hope it's soon. You have to be very careful of your body. I have decades of practice now and its a special technique you use to carry these bad boys! Thanks man cheers!!
Name a singer that's always wet?... Billy Ocean
Lake Street Dive, Ocean Color Scene, The Creekdippers, Pond, Crystal Waters, The Waterboys or The Lake Poets.... .HAHA!
@@ConstructionKronies haha good one, you named a few there buddy
Boy your camera is really bouncing around. My eye balls feel that they are going to fall out
Yeah especially back then when I was just starting out. I hear ya!
Why don't you put the bottom sheetrock on first?
Great question. We have to lift the board a 1/2" off the floor and we want to be as tight as possible on the top for the corner to be taped. So we install the top sheets first and then use our lifters to snug up the bevel. Traditionally our ceiling heights are 8'-1/2" (2 x 4' sheets) or 9'-1/2" (2 x 54" sheets). I hope this answers your question.
sounds like youre on the blow buddy XD good video though
Thanks! I shoot a lot of videos in the winter and its cold so we get runny noses a lot. The temperature changes so much out here to begin with then add the heaters on site its hot / cold ...... I have had a couple others mention the blow thing so I am aware of that now and am being very careful trying not to do that while shooting. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a huge advocate against blow and other hard drugs. I lost someone very close to me (a brother) from a fentanyl OD that was used to cut the blow. I used to be on pain killer's myself as I deal with chronic pain and that led to a bad addiction. Now I am advocating for cannabis usage as that is all I use for pain now. Hope this finds you well!!
@@ConstructionKronies I understand the temperature thing, I was a framer for 5-6 years and now do formwork, my nose gets dry and crusty every year so I deal with the same thing
Sorry to hear that man, I respect your stance on it, and I know about painkillers, cannabis is a way better way to go, been a trade secret for pain management for years xD
I’m going all metric with measurements. Far simpler and easy math. Just need a metric tape measure.
I do like metric myself, too bad we use imperial here.
@@ConstructionKronies Imperial is the most awkward way. Years ago there was a national effort to convert to metric but it died out. Too many curmudgeons stuck in their old ways.
@@Skashoon man the worst is when I was estimating I had to covert back and forth all the time. Metric is the best for sure.
10 foot...5/8...3 holes to hit, by yourself?! I think I'll stay an amateur DIYer!!

Camera work is very difficult to watch.. very distracting... haha..
Yeah I I know. Its very difficult filming yourself but I have got way better since this. Thanks for the feedback!
@@ConstructionKronies I can only imagine, I have never done it myself :) looking forward to see your videos, thank you for taking the time and sharing them. Have a lovely New year evening!
@@laurielegrand3162 Happy new year to you!!
why all the swearing?
Let me apologize for that, I don't know why I decided to leave that in on these videos. I had some college prof reach out to me and ask me not to swear so he can show my video's in school so since then have cut out all of the bad words. I try not to swear anymore but the trades are..... the trades. II hope I didn't offend you, thank you for watching. I will have newer drywall videos coming soon as well.
cause he's in construction? you work in an office or something...
You’re using the router wrong. Inside cuts are clockwise like doors and window openings. Electrical boxes or outside cuts are counterclockwise. You can see when you started from the right side of the sheet, the window bit leaves a rough cut with pieces of the paper, you start at the left hand side of the sheet. Its a smoother cut, plus the right way to do it. You never ever do it the way you’ve showed people in this video im sorry
hey my good man, I never use a router wrong. I use standard bits not those pussy guide points. Plus I use 5/16 and 1/4". I can cut anything anyway no matter the direction or object cause I am an OG! Only you noobs would point out something so trivial and not important. Rooks yeah usig guide points have to cut out boxes like that but pre cutting you cut to your strength.
