One of the best instrumentals of all time in my humble opinion? It's always on my driving playlist. Both the original and the cover by The Shadows....!
Wow! Love Telstar in all its incarnations - if the Shads had recorded this at the same time as the Tornados they'd probably have held the top two chart slots! A timeless track for sure 👍....!
This is one of my favourites on Shadowmania. It really makes a stage performance when you see musicians enjoying themselves. The lead dominates and Bruce is enjoying it and how!
The fella has the sound and the style. Years ago when it wasn’t hip to admit you liked the. Shadows, the guitar light bulb brigade ( those who thought they could change a bulb better than the one before)use to say “that easy stuff” Well that easy stuff that I thought anyone could do is deceptively difficult despite having a strat and a Vox AC30/copycat etc. It’s in the hands and I haven’t yet heard anyone that can make Apache so distinctive as Hank does. The fella there does a great job and I suppose he’s there because he does and if anyone should know, it’s Bruce. Perhaps my problem in the past was that I didn’t wear the glasses. Strangely listening to the Shads now after all these years and myself a professional guitarist for more than 40 years, I still find things in the recordings that I can learn from. Apart from Hanks playing, Bruce’s chord voicings are all carefully chosen along with the bass and drums so all for like a glove and voila we have the Shads. Full marks to the young chap in the clip. He’s got the essence of Marvin
Absolutely wonderful Justin like a young Hank Marvin absolutely brilliant and spot on 100% ,he's got that sparkle,,"talent confidence "" and also looks,he fits like a glove
You boys made me think off my childhood memories and got me teary eyed.. Hit it boys and make this old man(me) thinking of this wonderful life I have.. 🇦🇺👏🇦🇺👏🇦🇺👏🇦🇺👏🇦🇺👏🇦🇺..
In relation to Welch’s comments re never having a number one hit in the USA, i don’t understand why that is. I grew up near Chicago around the time of surf guitar and Telstar, but for some reason no Shadows songs received radio play and none of us ever heard of the band. They are (or I should say were) phenomenal and i’m glad that I got to hear them finally, even though it is decades past their prime. Even with this non original guitarist, they sounded great
The Shadows had a lot of hits here in Australia. I hope you've accessed their hits on RUclips. Hank Marvin the lead guitarist is a legend. They also backed Cliff Richard who should have had more exposure in the US as well,
Still one of my all time favourite songs. Started listening to oldies when I was about 13 in the late 80's. I had this on tape and probably had to redub it 3 times because the tapes got worn out..... ah the memories.
I’ll go back to that year anytime 1961or 62, best part of Telstar is the last chorus when the lead guitar plays that high octave bit near the Guitar body
Come one, this is outstanding! In Sweden we had " The Spotnicks 2 amost as big! Maybee even bigger in Japan! Any two of the best band in the world to play a guitarr, like they did!
i WAS THERE ON THAT NIGHT WHEN cLEM WAS THERE AS HE LIVES LOCAL IN THE fARNHAM AREA SOME WHERE. Also a friend of mine went out with his siter i do beliuev.
Essa música era tema da radio novela, Radar o Homem do aepaço, que era apresentada na radio Difusoura de Teresina, nos annos 60. Eu era menino e dava o maior 10 Que tempo bom!
This reminds me of when I met my late husband at Streatham Ice Rink His younger brother used to sing another Cliff Richard Song “Living Doll” ❤️❤️❤️💃🕺🌻
They make a good fist of the driving rhythm for sure but this sadly isn't even a small patch on Clem Cattini's recording which was No. 1 in the UK and the first british single to reach No.1 in the US and, incidentally, the first record I ever bought. Pure magic and still is today.
Still gives me goosebumps after all these years! I love this guitar-oriented version ❤❤❤
This music never gets old!❤

Forever young ..The shadows
Wow! Love Telstar in all its incarnations - if the Shads had recorded this at the same time as the Tornados they'd probably have held the top two chart slots! A timeless track for sure 👍....!

Blimey 6 years ago. Admiration to all the players. Great band, all played brilliantly. It was a joy to listen to it all again.
Great song .I did have the Alum I still feel its in America some were Ha Ha!!!!!
.
Justin reminds me of a young HBM he has the looks the style and also the sound. He is a great player for his age
You'd almost think he was trying for it...
@@graememcgregor8407 Too true. I just close my eyes, and it's Hank there.
I can't recall seeing Hank using his LH thumb to press the string. It looks very unprofessional.
Well, Hank was also young when he started !
Looks like Buddy Holly to me.
that young Justin is a great guitarist
Still one of my all time favourite songs. Started listening to oldies when I was about 13 in the late 80's. I had this on tape and probably had to redub it 3 times because the tapes got worn out..... ah the memories.

Excellent band..The drummer is superb holding it all together...!!
I’ll go back to that year anytime 1961or 62, best part of Telstar is the last chorus when the lead guitar plays that high octave bit near the Guitar body
100% Class ! Classic Rock !
Great guitarist! In the same tradition as Hank. Good stuff!
Bravo!
Come one, this is outstanding! In Sweden we had " The Spotnicks 2 amost as big!
Maybee even bigger in Japan! Any two of the best band in the world to play a guitarr,
like they did!

Saw The Tornadoes playing this at Ilkley a few years ago when they were the support band to Craig Douglas.

Que tempo bom!
Maravilhosa melodia ,muito bem interpretada

Mitici!
Wow...!
Telstar was in fact the first communication satellite!
Bravissimi
A nice version......
This reminds me of when I met my late husband at Streatham Ice Rink
His younger brother used to sing another Cliff Richard Song “Living Doll” ❤️❤️❤️💃🕺🌻
Great story Shirley. I used to live in Streatham in the 1980s and also went skating with my now wife.
Wow ! Where did Bruce find such a talented "Young Hank" ??!
That is exactly what I am thinking. Someone must have recommended him to Bruce Welch. The young guy is a genius.
Methinks a bit of illegal cloning going on.
👌😍😍
Love this song ❤❤❤
Justin daish❤️💕
Bravissimo
After hearing the ordinary Shadows for 50 years, I cannot get used to it.
Evergreen group feel like hearing all the hit songs again again and again everyday
A nice version
Much better version than the original from the early 60s.
Szuper zene.
I wonder if Bruce had ever sit back and listen to the recording of this performance. I think if he had, he would know that he needed a sound engineer.
Hank looks great!! ;)
Not Hank
Those botox treatments did Hank up a treat!. 😆
🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Great
Clem Cattini , drummer for the tornadoes , which they’d took a shot of him
Nice sound
The first record I bought, by the Tornadoes..
wow they are much better than the original
Wow ...
I bet you lot could do a really good version of our song "Back To The Saturday Dance"
Tous chapeau et Hank absent est remplacé par un jeune admiratif de la Shadows Music
Attempt? You guys nailed it, beautiful live version

Was told Bruce lives in Rhuddlan, North Wales.
a tune for organ
Justin Daish on lead.
All his father!

This would have a great track for The Shadows.
They covered it in 1980 I think, on one of their albums
Won us the local pub quiz tonight - everyone else said the Shads, we were the only ones who got the Tornados!
@@arjenh7214 They did! And then remastered in 2004
