Just a quick note since I've seen it a couple times - gromwil weapons is -1 AP, not reroll 1's. Gromril armor is reroll 1's for armor saves. I like having great weapons and shields, a bit spendy, but I prefer the flexibility of having the option of using the shields to benefit from shieldwall.
I was just saying this today. Hammerers are a great infantry hammer on paper and Ironbreakers are a great infantry anvil on paper. But being so slow means that your opponents can usually dictate the engagements. The Longbeards work as a good middle ground between tankiness and being able to take at least a few wounds off the enemy. I also always take a King as a general, so being able to take a unit of Longbeards as core is huge. A unit of Longbeards and the one unit of Rangers (who I also love) gets you up to 300+ points of core as fairly elite troops. Then I like to fill the rest out with Warriors so I can focus my Special and Rare points on elite shooting.
For me longbeards are the better hammerers, as they are cheaper, fill core and with the 5+ward rune on a BSB they are a great bunker. For my king i stick him in ironbreakers so that the king has an immovable bunker while he does the killing
What I used to do is run a long line of slayers 2 deep infront of my Hammers and Longbeards. The slayers will stop any charges from any units, they will eat the casualties, you remove your losses from the sides of Slayer ranks and you can charge around the sides with the Hammers and Longbeards in a kind of pincer move. The slayers don't break and won't flee, so no need to worry about the charging until consolidating into the unit's behind them. Also, putting a Slayer Hero with some runes on his weapon for a lil hitback to soften up the ranks before you swing in from the sides. Although, In the old rules if you added runes to a weapon you lose the normal bonus's of the weapon, so no +2 str from a great weapon. I'm not sure if they changed that rule but I've noticed you were using the +2 str bonus from great weapons +Rune abilities like extra attacks...
You can't take casualties from the side of the unit only though, or do you mean you'd expect to remove the entire back rank and enough of the front to make space? Also runes don't remove a weapons stat bonuses in this ed.
@@Mrbeardable Yes, they have no armor so I always assume I'm going to take massive casualties on the charge plus your going to take damage from ranged attacks also. So that second rank will get chewed through real fast. Then you start taking from the sides of the first rank to make way for the unit's behind them.
i think the difference between hammerers and long beards is the hammerers are front line units long beards are suport and hole plugging because they have the buff for other units and they can charge in wile a unit is engaged with another unit. i would take them in smaller units that can slip into gaps and wile they are waiting they can buff your units in combat
In 3 round combat simulations most infantry beat most cav. Especially elite heavy infantry. (That's presuming same frontage, if you presume linehammer it's even more lopsided)

Dwarf miniatures age gracefully as do dwarves themselves 👍🏻

Great Weapons + Shields - I think you can choose hand weapons w/ shields at the top of a combat if you want
Grumble, grumble.. Reviews longbeards, shows the bugman's brewers....
Bugmans rangers if i remember correctly counted as "Longbeard Rangers"
Haha, that Bugged me too lol
They’re too lovable Dwarfs for life
It's Simon's favorite army!

Love this content!!! Just got into dwarves
Can we have your take on Bretonnia Foot Knights please!! I've been toying around with them since release but can't decide how I feel about them
Don’t confuse chaos warrior reputation from previous editions to ToW, they generally aren’t considered very good for chaos.
loving this !!! keep it coming
Could you please do an overview on the dwarf iron breakers? Thank you. ⚒🍺
Grumble grumble, my men at arms get slaughterd by longbeards with shields, grumble grumble
Do you have a Video on how the Old World Works in 20 Minutes? I was busy with Bolt ACtion and Panzers laterly.
I take them because I love their 6ed miniatures 😅
6 edition Longbeards are really cool!!

Empire needs some decent infantry.
👍👍
dont look at all the heavy infantry, they are all overcosted.

the entire dwarf faction is heavy infantry
I like your channel a lot, but I do prefer the guard/40k content. Not gonna make me leave, but maybe a second channel for old world could be better?
I came for the guard, stayed for the peep show, Sharpe and burnt face man jokes and greatly appreciate the old world tangent
cool story bro.
