@@kinkkwang9835 the parkour is only better because there's more added to it, quantity doesn't always mean quality and the parkour system in dl2 shows it, sure it's pretty to look at and has more to it, but you're ever only gonna use a maximum of 5 or 6 things to actually get around, take the paraglider for example, you could cross from one end of central loop without touching the ground using the paraglider, air vents and grapple hook. everything is indeed a downgrade of some sort

A few more problems I have is techland adds new animations but removes old ones, for example they added a new swing animation but remove the old one, or in latest update they add a new ledge swing , but removed the old one. I wish they could do it like in dl1 where there was 3 different types of vaults and hopefully they could randomized different animations so it can have variety, so you have to see the same thing over and over again.

didnt ask the resident parkour addict about the parkour, offended.
jk amazing video. the only thing i dont agree with is the gravity. the floatiness works amazingly the issue is the speed with which you float if a lot of specific animations were 2x or even 3x faster (jumping off a walled pole) it would be much more natural feeling and look better
here are my thoughts I posted in discord when Aussie asked
generally I agree with everything everyone said, but would add that parkour has a great foundation its the details that are not well done, the best way it could be improved is
    1) as mentioned allow momentum to carry BUT also allow the player to control it within reason the current lack of control (for example when doing a dash jump and not being able to jump afterwards, or not carrying momentum after an afterboost) take away from the players control and forces them into situations that dont look or feel good if it wasnt the case
    2) tweaking the speed values of specific animations. for example when jumping off of a pole Aiden falls at 25% speed compared to a normal jump and fall which is a genuine feeling of floating as you are falling dramatically slow DUE to an animation. and there are plenty of examples of that.
    3) atop that the increase of new moves is downgraded due to a lack of animation diversity. making the parkour feel less diverse compared to DL1 even though it literally as 2-3x the moves and things you can do.

It doesn't just stop at the parkour. These 'time to think' handicaps are present in combat as well. The slow-mo on the vault kick isn't the worst thing in the world but it definitely slows down the fast-paced fighting that we're all used to. Another thing which I absolutely despise is the animation lock when you grapple somebody. After throwing an enemy behind you or punching them to the side, there's a moment where you're just stuck standing there like a thumb, meanwhile I have three renegades behind me making my health bar disappear because I'm locked in place for too long. The same issue is present with Airkick too. Another factor is the strafing speed, it's far too slow and makes maneuvering in combat so jarring, you may as well stand still and just use dodge to move. Combat is so much fun (especially with I am legion installed) but player movement and animation locking just completely minimizes the freedom that players should have when controlling Aiden.

Contrary to expectations, accelerated animations reduce the feeling of speed.

  • @GamesPatron

The problem with speed cap is seriously just a very simple one that a dev could fix in a day.
Just cache the speed of the player for the animation and give it back after it finishes (that would fix the pole, zipline problems)
Yes of course with animations it would look clunky or weird sometimes because the animation would play way to slow but you can easily adjust from that.
There is literally no technical reason not to ad that even as a setting to turn on and off.

    @leonecartelreborn9628 Год назад

The thing is, it is understandable why the devs did this as not a small number of the playerbase probably get dizzy real easily while playing for extended periods of time. The problem is because of those changes the mechanics lack realism which I believe is essential in a game like this and a lot of players suffer for it. It would've been nice if the devs could've made the movement mechanics more accessible by letting players enable or disable specific animations they don't like or affect their vestibular system. That way people that seek more realistic and grounded playstyle, like for example how the body rocks back and forth when jumping on a zipline from a running start, would get their share of realism and players that get motion sick easily can turn off these heavy animations that affect them. And the second major flaw in my opinion is how heavily reliant that game is on using the grappling hook. In the first game that was a unique item that you could find as an easter egg and use to skip sections entirely but you could just as easily beat the game without using it once. In the second game its use became essential as there entire sections you can't progress through without utilizing the hook as a tool.

I want them to add a mirrors edge sliding mechanic, in ME, faith actually loses momentum in a slide, but has the option to roll out of it to keep said momentum. That should be a thing in DL2, because the current slide feels stupid fast, and not to mention aiden grabs his weapon while you slide, and it looks stupid, and breaks the immersion.

I was watching this on my ps5. I never liked the “spider man web zip-grappling hook” from the first game. It’s nice that we have more animations. But, there is less intuitive thinking. Even with the physical option. There are moments where you slow down dramatically. And idk what animation is-they added a front flip- but they still aren’t applying momentum. They want it to look pretty. But Aiden is a efficient pilgrim AND a top infected/superhuman. You were faster in dying light 1. But dying light 2 is still my favorite. I played the first to death. Even the infected mode(having to face players who sat in the water and just stayed until I left.). It needs MORE animations. Even Less floatiness in the physical mode because you can still correct certain falls because of the gravity and added animations for moving quickly. It’s amazing to have the side wall run. But even that slows your speed a bit. Everyone in Viledor knows what you’re can fun o m wall n . But we always seem lil bit too slow just for our sake. And making the charge not give a speed boost anymore was a poor change.

Got the game this christmas, and after putting in around 100 hours these are my thoughts on the solutions at 13:52:
Stronger gravity, uncapped speed, carry momentum, and physics emphasis I 100% agree on.
With the more animations point, id say only if they are going to fix the whole issue of "fixed animation speeds" would this be smart. IF they did that, then a variety of animations would be good, or if you mean theres fast/slow versions of each animation thats even better.
Im personally against more air control for the sake of it being a stupid concept. Sure, this game has a lot of parkour movements that might be a bit of a stretch, but changing direction after youve jumped (not using paraglider) is just fantasy. Go outside rn and try to jump 90° around the corner of a building and tell me how it goes; its just not possible. For this reason, ive literally left the "turn while jumping" skill unleveled, so i dont develop the habit of defying physics.

I hate parkour in DL2 because all it's potential is destroyed by this. The game is so freaking slow. And thanks for including that interview because it confirmed my theory that this slowness is caused by one of the sins of modern games: making everything easier so even a biter can play it.
Don't get me wrong, it's great to make game enjoyable for more people, especially handicapped, but I think that it should prioritize keeping the core audience of the game happy. IMO doing something like this is like forcing colorblind mode for everyone

I was extremely disappointed when this game released, I used to be pretty hardcore into gaming until about the age 23 when I started really working full time and ever since then I still play but only about an hour or two at a time I just can't really get into it like I used to be able to now that I'm getting older and tired more easily, the first dying light game will forever be one of my all-time favorite games my first playthrough of the story was truly amazing, I remember doing every single mission at the start of the game that I could do during the day then it came to that first required night time mission and holy crap that was an amazing experience that mission was so simple but so well put together, I forget what the bad guy's name was the main bad guy but that mission where you have to escape from his compound was probably the most intense moment in gaming I've ever had, it was just like being in the tower you call home base but a nightmare version he had it gutted out and filled with zombies it was like a horror maze, being forced to fight in that arena and having everything stripped away from you other than a few pipes and sticks laying around was awesome but man my heart was really going after that, with that being said I don't usually buy new games full price but I bought dying light too the day it came out and I was disappointed the same day I probably played about 20 hours and uninstalled it, the atmosphere is completely different, I hate the fact they removed the skill tree and replaced it with pieces of equipment that have different perks that's just so much more complicated I don't want to constantly have to switch equipment and equip higher level stuff there's some games where I like them for that reason such as the division or destiny or Diablo 2, I just don't feel like that was a good fit for dying light it took a lot of the fun out for me on top of the atmosphere and everything else I feel like they just did a lot of things nobody asked for I didn't see a whole lot of complaining about the original game for them to change everything around so much was a bad idea in my opinion and like I mentioned the first game is one of my all-time favorite games so the fact I don't even like the second game says something in my opinion I had the exact same experience with far cry 6 they did the exact same thing they took the perk system away the skill tree system away and now you collect equipment that has perks and you're constantly picking stuff up and reading through it and comparing it it's really time consuming and I would much rather prefer just having a skill tree that way I can read a few skills pick which one suits my style then keep playing I don't want to have to read a bunch of stuff playing action games like these it's not that I'm illiterate and I don't like reading or anything like that and I just want the action I play a lot of really slow games I'm playing death stranding right now they just changed those games way too much like I said I bought far cry 6 the day it launched also and had the same experience and far cry 5 is also one of my all-time favorite games that was the first far cry to take place in America and I thought it was amazing I loved the story the characters the gameplay it was awesome putting a suppressor on a heavy machine gun and going hunting with it now in far cry 6 the suppressors break after a couple shots if you shoot too quickly with them that alone I could deal with but they aren't even fully suppressed which I know is unrealistic being able to shoot someone in the head walking right behind someone and not having the person in front hear it but who cares man then on top of it it makes the weapon worse other than making it slightly less loud there's a lot more overall realistic games that have completely silenced suppressors so making that decision to try to impact overall how realistic the game is just doesn't make sense they could have done something else the main killer for far cry 6 was held at AI or the computer enemies spawned in for example I would kill a single horseback enemy that's just patrolling a single small area and not even 60 seconds later another one would come replace him and they wouldn't be on alert because his dad body was laying there or anything the enemy AI was so bad in that game it was laughable you can't even say it was so bad it wasn't even funny it was so bad it actually was kind of funny other than the fact that I paid full price for it, then for example when you take over a compound and then it gets occupied with fellow gorilla friendly NPCs literally a minute after completing that mission and taking over this little checkpoint here comes an enemy Jeep then all of the friendly NPCs start shooting at it then thanks to the new implemented wanted level type system two Jeeps come immediately after the first one then the friendly NPCs kill them by this point I haven't even left the building I'm just kind of watching out the window so after the two Jeeps are killed here comes a helicopter which doesn't die so easily and then that's followed by a tank so now there's a helicopter and a tank within 2 minutes I know there's an option for difficulty that's kind of strange for far cry 6 there's like action difficulty then story difficulty I believe instead of the normal easy medium hard extreme like all of the other games but it didn't really make it different switching between them literally right when you kill an enemy someone comes and takes their place like they just spawn out of nowhere it's not like that person was already on that patrol route or anything you could kill one single enemy and it will repeatedly be replaced infinitely within less than a minute sorry to kind of go on a rant here especially about far cry 6 because this is a dying light video which isn't even related to far cry but I just thought both games had very similar issues and both games were released very close together and it really bummed me out buying two games from a franchise I really enjoy and disliking both games for basically the same reasons 2022 was really really really not a good year for gaming

    Okay so here's my take.
I think dying light 2 is a great game. It's fun and when going into dark zones is a tad bit scary which is cool but I wish it was more scary like maybe add a zombie around a corner to Jumpscare you. The story was not bad at all, I know people were giving techland shit for the story but I thought it was okay. Now on to the thing that really FUCKING PISSES ME OFF. The parkour system NEEDS tweaking bad! I love the parkour challenges alot but the parkour system is so dogshit. I turned off all parkour assist like auto grab ledges, poles, etc but it doesn't do anything. I got so frustrated that I didn't go for gold on the carnage hall challenges cause it was so impossible to get gold. The parkour system NEEDS a change badly. So overall it's a 7.5/10 for me. Once they fix the parkour system then it'll be a 8 or 9 out of 10.

I might get a little hate for this but I personally like the floatiness of the game. To me it adds a lot more vertical aspects but I do think that it could use more momentum with the parkour. If they do some how make a stronger gravity employmentation it should be a optional thing.

"Players need more time to think"
Stand still and observe the environment? Not hard, People's issues with the DL1 parkour system is a player skill issue than a game design issue, so Techland makes a bad parkour system for DL2 based on an issue that one doesn't exist (motion sickness crap) and two because people want to PARKOUR before they can walk.
Yeah how's catering to people who didn't like Dying Light in the first place working out for you Techland? If only they'd listen to people like me who actually pay for their products.

from what i've gathered in the comments people are very much divided between enjoying how DL2 works, or not being totally satisfied with it. so, if Techland were to introduce a patch that would give the players a parkour system with more momentum that carries across animations but with heavier gravity and no magnetism to ledges, it'd be best if they implemented a Parkour Difficulty slider with a Custom option similar to how Sniper Elite has a Custom difficulty option where you can alter every aspect of the challenge to your personal liking, whether it be a small or major change. it'd also give us more ways to experiment with how the parkour system works internally and give us a more scientific perspective on how it functions.

This game is a pathetic Mirrors Edge Catalyst wannabe. And even at that, it failed terribly. ME got all their physics on point, and then there's simple things that DL2 struggles with like the jumps. Techland did you hire junior devs and designers for this game?
I like the solutions you gave at the end, especially the air control thing. There was absolutely no reason to remove that and give more airtime during jumping. Dumbest design decision ever. Hope they can remove the floatiness and bring back air control.
