Driving In A Scottish Winter Storm - Storm Gerrit

- In this weeks video, we decided to leave our current park up and head towards Aviemore, there is another extreme storm arriving to the UK and Scotland soon, called Storm Gerrit. But during our travels we are faced with the full damaging effects and extreme storm in Scotland brings. Cars stranded and damaged, trucks stuck, homes without power and trees uprooted and thrown around like twigs.
This is the reality of Scottish van life in extreme weather conditions like Storm Gerrit.
But in good news, we are joined by a good friend Sean from @ProjectCamper who will be joining me for my last week in Scotland!

Spending time with Archie and You bro is the best times ever. The Cairngorms and being at hidden park up is magical. Fantastic roads covered in snow and visiting local coffee shops is brilliant . I cant thank you enough for being a absolute amazing friend. Thank you Bro ❤❤❤❤

Hi Rob, we pulled up next to you and @ProjectCamper and didn't even realise. Only just realised now whilst watching your Video. Michelle wanted to have the view out for tea so we moved over the other side, then we went down next to the field so Freya and Maximus could have a play. Anyway will give you a wave if we see you about again. You probably don't watch along with us, we have the big white transit mini bus with the home made roof extension and side pods 🙂
HI mate, yeah think I saw your van on the cairngorm mountain top and then down the bottom when we was parked up? Shame you didn't come and say hello while we was there, we are slowly leaving Scotland now due to going back to work, but stay safe up there and hopefully see you on the road somewhere one day again!
@@PackTheVanAndGo yeah, we are on our way back down now. Out of the highlands today, we went back up to Cairngorms top park up for one more night to see if we would get some big snow for Maximus. Anyway, same to you if you see us about. Safe journey 🙂

HI, Archies leg always shake at the back, its definitely not because he was cold... Its been quite mild and not freezing in the day, just at night it drops to below freezing.. John & Mandy have gone on their own adventures in Scotland, they have more time than me and wanted to head to the islands as I need to head back to work! HNY

Scotland really does deliver some amazing days and then likes to slap you back to reality! But so glad I have the lift kit and the bigger wheels/tyres in these conditions! Hope you're well mate?
The joy of being robbed at aviemore petrol station 😅😂way of life when I lived there. Normal to carry chainsaws
Yeah daylight robbery, they even ran out of fuel the day after for a few days! Yeah we had chainsaws but many other cars blocking the way stranded 👍

How was the shower Rob? Did the air feel freezing cold when you finished or was it a warm area?. I suffered that a few times in freezing cold weather and it made me reluctant to have one. Hope the roads weren't too slippery that had snow covering, but these are the months now where its going to stay icey for longer.
Yeah the shower was roasting mate, and in the leisure centre was warm also! The roads apart from storm damage to trees and damaged cars have bene fine, its mostly gone now, so heading out of Scotland soon! Hope you're well mate?

I know things like that can and could happen, but I’ve learnt to drive in the military in far worse conditions! So always feel safe and prepared 👍

Long live the right to choose one's own life. If you want less freedom, living in china might be more your thing👍
I never understand the ignorance, arguably arrogance and most certainly the complete dislocation of expectation, with folks driving in UK, especially during the Winter and especially in Scotland. No winter tyres, as saving money appears more important than saving lives, which winter tyres do, so instead, to save money, they believe all-season or summer tyres with snow chains will suffice. Learning and educated in how to drive in different conditions from heat, rain & floods, to ice with snow and then heavy snow, should be part of learning to drive, as well as learning, when to keep off roads. If there was a fire in a house, most people get out & the Fire Brigade go-in, so why do drivers, out of ignorance, though often arrogance of choice, drive into bad weather with no training or skills? Complete utter crazyness and stupidity, but some will do anything for a RUclips video and then use-up tax payers money by getting rescued by emergency services, or as a minimum, blocking access and roads for emergency services. I feel sorry for the locals that live in these areas and have to deal with those visiting with no idea. So please, for your own safety and that of the emergency services, if you don't like driving in these conditions, especially without the right knowledge, training and experience, as well as the correct rubber on your tyres or correct rubber on windscreen wipers for winter, along with all the other things i will not list here for winter driving, then stay at home or stay South for the Van Life types. Then everyone stays safe and less tax payers money is needed to be spent rescuing numpty's.
If this was aimed at me personally, then it is you that is showing arrogance and ignorance. Because if you had bothered to review previous videos from over the years, then you'll have seen the past 4 years of winter van life in Scotland that has passed. 4 years of winter living & driving experience and a van that has been built solely for that experience..that comes with winter rated tyres, recovery equipment and so on. Added to the fact that with 30 years experience in the Army/Infantry and the experience of driving in far more extreme conditions and in hostile locations, I am fully prepared for anything mother nature can throw at me or the van. Add to the fact that in the video, not one van got stuck, we all decided to turn around and head for safety (a sensible decision), it was in fact the locals who live there that wasn't prepared for the conditions but yet still drove in them and they are the ones that had to call on the locals services to support them, not the Vanlifers who came prepared!, So I hope that your pathetic attempt to vent at me is now aimed at them instead?
And it is the droves of Vanlifers that head to Scotland in winter that actually help to support the local community through paying for local goods, helping the locals and supporting the local economy!
How about you stay off a keyboard and leave your views in the gutter where they belong! Happy new year and thanks for making me some money!
@@PackTheVanAndGo I for one bro dont remember getting stuck, in fact if i recall we helped the stuck local gentleman out of his poorly judgmental decision to drive a electric car with his wife and kids on snow, It wasn’t for us van lifers and others with our property equipped vehicles that was able to navigate the poor roads and return to safety without calling on emergency services , Im really dumbfounded to how this poorly educated individual came to the conclusion that he has, More so probably has a little more time and wanted to have a little chat at how he can save people from his keyboard. Bless him.
