Levi, Quick tip! When bringing your cameras and lenses from a cold environment into a warm interior it's a good idea to seal them in a plastic bag until they've warmed up. This will help prevent potential condensation forming in places (esp.lenses) you really don't want moisture to be! Great van build!
That is a great tip that I somehow always forget 😬🥶
Add a silica gel pack to the bag. They will help dry things out and they are really cheap

Nothing better than to be cozy and warm while the storm rages on.
The flooring is great! Tracking in snow and rain is such a pain. We got a car floor mat for the front door that holds the moisture and snow melt from our shoes until we can dump it out. Grabbing any moisture before it evaporates into the air is so helpful! Your van is beautiful. Enjoy!!!

The 360 action shots really held their impact viewing on big screen rather than device. Well worth investment.
This doesn't seem like a solo camping at all. But your kid like excitement is just so pure.

If you haven't considered it by now with the diesel heater, you might want to check for condensation build up behind your wall and roof panels. Cold metal, melting snow inside, heating water or just simple breathing. You might find a lot of water that you do no see behind the panels. All that moisture has go some where. Great video.

so fun, my wife, Marissa, used to be a semi professional snowboarder but "retired" after college. Now at 22 years old we live on our sailboat preparing to sail around the world! our new adventure :) Cheers ~

I also love your idea with the extra seats - I always wondered, if I were to do this, how I could do this if I had a child. If I had a child, van life wouldn't be for forever. But at least this solves my issue of seating! Thank you! ❤️

@Levi Allen - where does the diesel heater's exhaust vent to? Surely you're not inhaling diesel exhaust inside your van - but when you said the heater was just under the seat, it puzzled me. How much diesel does it consume in this cold? Why do most other RVs use propane?

Or someone who didn’t grow up with snow. I lived in Texas my whole life until 6 years ago when I moved to Colorado. Winter’s my FAVORITE! Alas, covid forced me back to Houston but I’ll be back to snow soon

Great adventure Levi. I have always wanted a van and watching your van build process and then going out on an adventure with Chad from Living the Vanlife finally made me decide to make that happen. First thing I did was take my van out in that winter storm so much fun and I am stoked to get started on my build. Also I think you finally convinced me to add a 360 cam to my workflow 👍.

I’m glad you are getting after it. This was one of the first times I really put the 360 cam to the test, I am glad with the results I got, and also learned a bunch in the process. It’s a challenge to edit, but I’m glad I gave it a go

You're the only person I've found who has said they LOVED their Van, and I actually believe them. Your build is no non sense, practical, and is a breath of fresh air since everyone is designing these things to look like offensively expensive condos. You're so happy in your van and it shows.

Those Webasto style heaters can crank! When I drove OTR semi, we had them in our trucks. -40F and it was toasty in the cab at night.
But was it reliable? When I drove my 2 freightliner cascadias those diesel heaters were awful. Hardly any temp adjustment and diesel would always gunk up the pilot. Had to take it apart and clean it every other use.
My semi has an Espar, works well.
I wish some of this snow would have come to the Philadelphia, Jersey, Delaware area. We had barely any snow and no snow days. In my 33 years I have never went a whole winter with no snow day. It’s kind of depressing. But I love his energy. Looks fun

Really nice video... Just lost my brother 3 weeks ago.. He was an avid skier.. He has done Mt. Washington many of times... He was actuallyin Japan skiing when he had a heart attack... So while i watched this video i could feel his presence
Since you have heat in the van, it would be good to use a pot full of snow and keep it recharged to melt while you have the heat on to keep generating water. Saves your stove time/fuel.
Creating extra humidity in a van might not be too good. Especially as he goes out boarding and lets the van freeze, any humidity would turn to ice and then drip when he starts the heater up when he gets back. Just put water from the kettle into a thermos/insulated bottle and you will have plenty of water to drink later.

Only tip for you, keep a space heater around for when you're somewhere with a plug in - much better / easier to keep the van warm with one of those than your fuel. I use a costco dish style heater in my 18ft travel trailer and does awesome; oil filled radiators will work great too. The added benefit - no fan noise.
The other gadget i use when boondocking is this ryobi "inverter" that basically takes one of their standard batteries and gives 110v and 2 usb ports - great for a small tv/raspberry pi or charging phones. Works out well as I have a set of crappy ryobi tools for camping.

I'm only 9 minutes in and three things have jumped out at me already.
1. Your childlike joy and enthusiasm for being out in your home in the snow..! Mate, I am EXACTLY the same as you.! There is something magical about snow. How it covers everything in a virginal like shroud and conjures up images of a magical land. Love your excitement!
2. Your build. It's great how you aren't all 'my van is the coolest' & 'this bit cost this, and that bit cost that', or giving us huge long detailed brand names and serial numbers, etc. Kinda bores me and how you just gave us a quick run through while it's a bit is a mess was refreshing.
3. Living The Van Life. Chad is just an awesome bloke.! I'm a huge fan of his and when you namechecked him and his Vanagon, I just KNEW I had to type something! Be great if you's two could meet up on a snowy camp-out.!

He is so happy living in a van, that shows his mindset, such an awesome way to live. I wish I could travel but I am too scared to travel alone and cannot afford to quit my job. Maybe when I am 60 and if I retire and find someone to travel with I will definitely do what these awesome people are doing. Life must be bliss doing what you love. Thank you for the video. I read a book called "how to live in a van and travel" by Mike Hudson and it kind of convinced me that there's no time like the present. worth a read of the first couple of chapters! :)
