- We're back reviewing the latest installment of one of my favorite gaming franchises of all time: Assassin's Creed Mirage. The return to the roots for the franchise set to regain lost goodwill over the last seven years......didn't do it. I don't take pleasure in this, but lets talk about Assassin's Creed Mirage and why I feel this way, strap in boys and girls and let's get down to business.

Great review! I didnt play ac mirage, because after valhalla i cant see myself buying another ac game in the near future and that is coming from someone who enjoyed ac odyssey a lot!

i had a different experience with the series, got into it in 2007 and loved everything up to 3 which soured me for so long i didnt play anything til the rpg trilogy revitalized my interest. IV and origins were up there with II for me, but now the idea of a return to the roots after those roots became so stale and formulaic makes me nervous and mirage was all my worst fears realized. I think theres room for some of what made those original games so great, but a lot of it needs to be thrown out for good. I hope the next time they try to return to the roots they focus on a compelling story and characters and thoughtful stealth setpieces/great feeling combat and less on just riding nostalgia and taking the worst parts of the rpg trilogy as design bibles
Assassins creed is at its best when its unique setting and interesting characters elevate the gameplay loop and give you something to get invested in between bouts of killing and exploration, running around a big empty space without emotional investment feels BLAND
My AC fandom started in 2010. I was a high school sophomore, and my friend kept gushing about Brotherhood, so I bought the first game, and the rest is history... until 2018.
Odyssey was the game that deflated me. It took 200 hours to 100% (including DLCs), most of the crucial story moments happened in the extra content locked behind paywalls, and somewhere in the middle of the game, I found out that Ubisoft had shadow-dropped a comic book that killed off Juno after half a decade of building her up as the main villain of the games... Fuck that.
That was when I bailed, when everything that kept me hooked on old AC was completely fucking gone. Now, when I get that itch to play Assassin's Creed, I go play Hitman instead.
I was asked what I was playing, I said I was grinding. That summarises the game now.
You could forgive every glitch of older ones for an engaging story, but even thats gone.
The one real reason I bought this, was to see if it could flesh out Basim, his history, his motivation, any connection to other ancients.
AND THERE WAS NOTHING THERE!
The opening words by Miles about difficult choices were completely irrelevant, or maybe it was the developers basically taking the p*** in that it was a difficult choice to con fans of their money?
He has connection to alethia, he'll have memories of before, they insinuated maybe he was in prison and tortured but did nothing to flesh it out.
The most boring, vacuous lackluster empty character development yet.
Strongly agree. I didn't play the game but the story was trash and the game was void.
