I agree. Although the band members are older than I am, after having to male children this reminds of my frustration in trying to talk/communicate with them in their late teens. Getting them to say a couple of words rather than grunts, was really hard work.
@Michael H. that some bs right there most rock fans know who they are. but if your talking about the common person who listens to whatevers popular on the radio then yeah they probably dont know them also where did you get your 99% do you know 99% of the world? huh do you? douchebag.
Strummer was a hippy before The Clash he was a fan of stuff like Captain Beefheart and Bob Dylan and had the nickname `Woody` after folk singer Woody Guthrie.
In 1977, everyone was considered a hippy other than Bowie, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed and Roxy Music. Bands like Clash were only a few years younger than the so-called hippy generation but spouted all this generational rhetoric to make themselves seem more relevant to teenagers at the time. The Pistols were the biggest bulshitters tho and Lydon is even more of a wanker these days. Many of these bands all had long hair and into prog rock a few years earlier of course. Love the Clash tho. 😀
Looking back, to me they come across like teenage kids being questioned by a parental figure. This reminds me of the parody band Bad News. God I feel old 😅
The irony about the ‘hippie’ thing is that they are now the ‘hippies’ (or worse, irrelevant and forgotten) A few years ago in London my daughter and I happened across a Clash exhibition - 40th anniversary of London Calling or something. Anyway my daughter was pretty bored by it. I was in awe. “Look at these photos on the wall’ I said, ‘this is what kids looked like when I was at junior school’. “Yea, whatever. Can we go now?’ was her reply.
