  • Today we are taking a look at Stellantis, the new name for the merged company between FCA and Groupe PSA. We will cover what this name means, if it makes senses, and the merger benefits and downsides for each company going forward. Only time will tell how this one turns out, and hopefully it's not another failure like DaimlerChrysler!

The whole PSA group has streamlined the business really well in the last 5 years, impressively they maintained a profit for Q1&2 2020. I'm a long time Peugeot/Citroen driver (AX, 205 Gti, 306 S16, 206 Gti, and e-208) and really want to see the brands grow and the current design language at Peugeot is awesome.
I can see the PSA/FCA merger being used by PSA to increase buying power for new tech like batteries/motors, with products based on shared platforms like PSA have done with the PSA EMP1 platform (208/corsa/C4/DS3) recently. Europe will be EV focused going forward and that transition will require a lot of retooling and rethinking, shared R&D is the only way companies will survive.
The USA will be slower to mass EV adoption, but like it or not the market share of Internal Combustion engines will fall off a cliff in the next 10 years, the use of current PSA technology like the upcoming eVMP electric platform will be important for FCA in the future.

To me it screams desperation, when Lee Iacocca brought Chrysler back from the brink of collapse and retired in the mid 90's Chrysler didn't heed his advice and went with the ACQUISITION of Daimler, THAT WAS NO "MERGER." Then when they were spun off and sold to Cerberus capital, they were treading water afterward, then the combined UAW pension fiasco and economic downturn forced them to "merge" with Fiat. Afterwards they started to make strides in making a comeback with Jeep, truck sales and the LX/LD platform giving them some much needed capital. But they lagged behind in development( the current Charger design is almost 10 years old!) Fiat really is just the Italian counterpart to Chrysler in the sense that they know how to make cars LOOK good, but fail in reliability for the most part. Now they're being BOUGHT AGAIN for the FOURTH TIME IN 22 YEARS!!! That's excluding the Mitsubishi merger and government bailouts it's incurred TWICE now and the full acquisition of Chrysler(PSA bought Chrysler Europe back in the 1960's for literally $1)to me there has been one major constant for their troubles for the past 70 Years(excluding Lee Iacocca of course) SHITTY EXECUTIVES/MANAGEMENT!

Second gen 200 (2014-2016) was actually a very good car, looked a lot better than previous 200. It also had optional white leather + wood luxury interior made in a very good Italian taste (similar to Giulia with wood and leather package). You could also order it with very nice blue color and beautiful bigger wheels. Sadly most of 200s were ordered with ordinary black plastic interior, boring color and boring wheels. Additionaly german company ZF made mistakes while designing this infamous 9 speed gearbox that Chrysler put in 200, which ultimately killed it, along with the SUV trend. But interior and exterior is flawless for me, if we talk about versions with black grille and optional Luxury Interior.

@@seed_drill7135 The "shifty" transmission complaint is subjective, most didn't notice it and it could be tweaked with software update, and they kept the SUV part of that platform. I think most automakers are staying up late trying to figure out the costs factors of hybrids and EVs - which are being forced by upcoming regulations more than consumer demand. EV battery tech in 2020 is not for the majority and hybrids don't produce as great of results on the larger vehicles that Americans prefer. Toyota Prius is finally a good looking car and its locked that segment but its actually steadily declining in sales - that must leave Fiat Chrysler scratching their heads as what to do. Now that Corolla has a hybrid some recent Prius losses may be going there.

The old brands are: Essex, Franklin, Graham-Paige, Hudson, Kaiser, Mormon, Nash, Oakland, Packard, Pierce Arrow, Rambler, Studebaker, Terraplane, and Willys (passenger cars).
