I have a 2002 Intrepid with 3.5 liter v6, it runs like a dream, and the car is meticulously maintained by me, when you start it up, you can hardly even hear it. It has pure raw power, and the interior is pristine. It’s silver with a trunk wing, aluminum wheels, and is a dream to drive.

They were stylish roomy and comfortable, really good design. The 2.7 was troublesome after
80k miles , but the 3.5 was pretty good, with real low end grunt.

That's it right there. The 2.7 killed this amazing car. My 2000 was a beast, loved the autostick. That is, until it hit 27k miles. Started jumping into limp mode and later shutting off at stops. But i was driving a company car at the time so I had the cam position sensor replaced and parked it until the lease was up. Towed it to the dealer and didn't have to pay that ridiculous repair bill.

The 1st gens are my favorite. The 2nd gens are too bubbly and according to this video the second gens were way more problematic especially equipped with the 2.7L V6.😫 I'd get a 1st gen especially if I were able to find one equipped with the 3.3l V6 because they put the 3.3l V6s in the minivans and those engines are indestructible with your regular maintenance.

Harsh about the Intrepid. The 300M is a good looking car. The Stealth is a FWD platform though. It would have absolutely been a killer with RWD and any LA V8. It would be the Hemi Cuda of the 90’s. Plus, didn’t the Daytona last into the 90’s?

Right, I find it funny that the Chrysler 300M, Concorde and LHS all scored higher on average for reliability amongst owners, even though they were all practically the same car with the exact same drivetrain offerings. I’ve always thought the higher original price tags of the Chrysler LH cars explains why you still see many more of them on the roads over Intrepids, because people who could afford to purchase them from new generally took better care of them in terms of preventative maintenance.

Had a 1998 Intrepid ES 3.2 engine and it was a great car, and I loved it except for a few issues. If you still own one of these cars or bought a used one recently it helps when previous owners give you some helpful tips. Issue #1: Hot engine stalls and hard starts. Here's a tip if your 3.2 engine stalls when hot and takes 10 minutes or more before you can restart it....it's not your fuel pump! .... it's the Crankshaft Position Sensor .... so save yourself a lot of pain and money and change your Crankshaft Position Sensor ASAP with a new one and NOT one from a junk yard. Issue #2: Electronic Climate Control module kept failing and the blower would go into high speed which required the replacement of the module (aka HVAC Blower Motor Resistor module). Again, learn from my mistake and only install a new one. Junk yard parts are used and have a limited lifespan and don't always last very long. Issue #3 Inner Tie Rod bushings. These went bad on me 2 times and after a shop replaced them (and screwed it up by not installing the inside washers) I bought the bushing kit and did it myself the right way and the car handled like it was brand new. I bought the car when it was a few years old and owned it for 9 years and have some good memories. It was a great car to drive but not at all designed to be easily worked on.

I owned two of the 2nd generation Intrepid. I loved 'em. My first was a brand new 1999 base model in Platinum Mist metallic with 15" steel wheels and plastic wheel covers. It also had the infamous 2.7L sludge maker engine, although when I totaled it in Feb 2005 at just under 50,000 miles I had no issues or problems at all with the motor. I replaced it with a brand new, never been sold 2004 SXT in Stone white with 16" chrome wheels, 6 cd in dash Infiniti stereo, and the better equipped 3.5L high output engine. I drove that Intrepid for 10 years.

The front bushings are pretty much shot but I have a whole front end to put in it when I get the other side front shock. My dakota gets most of the daily duty these days but the intrepid deserved another break for a while. One of the front struts rusted out on top where it bolts to the chassis and fell out. New strut and tie rod end later its like it never happened. It was $200 in parts and a day of labor. Can hardly get an oil change done for that on a new car.

I fell in love with the looks of the 2nd gens back in high school when they hit the streets, and then I saw DMX n Nas rollin smoked out in a green one in the film BELLY. Had to have one. Those cars had been around for ever and were based on the K-car. It was also the last convertible Dodge offered even though conversion was done by ASC. They teased us for years with a Challenger convirtable but never built or had one built for sale.. Chrysler LH platform stands for "Last Hope". I had a 94 Intrepid ES, POS, I leased it, and in that time the catalytic converter went. I took it in for the clacking noise from the engine, dealer told me the valves were fouled and it needed a valve job. When I turned it in at the end of the lease period, I wrote in the owner's manual that this car was POS for future owners. Thankfully as noted in this video, you don't see any on the road vs. a similar vintage Camry or Accord, which are still used as daily drivers. This was the end of the era for the old school "style sells" trade your car in every few years approach by the American auto makers. Not saying they learned their lesson, they have all given up on the car market except for the foreign brands. Thanks for the video!

We decided to trade it in at 40,000 miles. It was a shame, because it was one of the best driving cars I've ever owned, and was surprisingly sure-footed in the snow. I really feel sorry for the people who got burned by Chrysler, especially buying their new cars. To this day I drive a 1998 Intrepid with the 3.2L in it and about 140k miles and it’s held up very well in the 8 years I’ve owned it. And yes it’s a beast in the snow.

I currently own a 2002 Dodge Intrepid with the Dreaded so--called problematic 2.7 6 cylinder engine! I bought the car brand new in Dec. of 2002 and it currently has 118,000 miles on it and STILL going strong! The only real problem that I've encountered was when I needed a Transmission Shift Module installed in my Tranny and that was just recently! It's been getting routine maintenance since purchased and has never let me down! I only use Synthetic grade oil and still love the car as much as I did 20 years ago when I bought it!!!

On dad's 99 Intrepid the reverse went out at 82,000 miles, the 2.7 liter engine leaked between 2-3 quarts a month, we still have oil stains in the driveway from that car. My dad purchased this car with 80K miles on it from a 99 year old man for $800, my older sister and her moronic boy friend killed the car 18 months later, it then went to the scrap yard where it belonged.

@silverbird58 Blue Devil head gasket sealer actually works pretty good, all I know about that car was that it leaked like a siv and that the 2.7 liter V6 Chrysler put out, was one of the worst engines of all time. Also stay away from any engine that uses a timing chain driven water pump because ALL water pump eventually go bad and this type leaks, or dumps water directly into your engine oil. Who ever came up with that design should be dragged through the streets and strung up like the Italian Partizans did to Mussolini back in 1945.

Had a 99 Intrepid with the 3.5 HO and it was pretty damn fast for a v6.Too bad the transmission was the 1st thing to go.

I own a 1996 Intrepid with a 3.5 engine and as far as I can tell it's the fully loaded model. The Body is in excellent condition given the age of the car (Undercoated/rust proofed every year) and aside from replacing mechanical components from ordinary wear I have had no issues with the car. Parts are relatively cheap and gas milage is still fairly decent.
It gets looks everywhere I go.

I had an Eagle Premiere at the time. Much more substantial car. It came with a very reliable PRV (Peugeot Renault Volvo) engine.

i owned 2 of the lh platform cars the first being a 96 concorde lxi with the 3.5 v6 and i never had any major issues with it . drove it for 5 years and then in the 5th year the water pump failed while i was clipping along the highway doing about 70 mph and destoyed the engine . the second i owned was a 2002 concorde lxi also with the 3.5 v6 . it was one of the most reliable cars i had owned . handled great ,nice smooth riding and had decent performance . i regretted selling my 02 . my favorite out of the lh platform cars was the 2004 300m special .

I haven't seen one of these outside a junk yard for the past few years while many cars from it's era are still running strong. Chrysler makes some of the least reliable cars on the road. This was a nice looking car for it's era though.

Well done! Thanks for this. I loved my silver 2003 Intrepid. I looked like the future car in those car magazines I saw as a boy in the 60's. Best American aero sedan look ever! My parents even asked "how can you afford this?". I learned about the sludge issue early on and paid to have the engine flushed, then synthetic oil, and another flush 3000 miles later. Two engine flushes done myself - $40. Unfortunately the transmission melted down (repair exceeding the value of the car) at 132K. Moved on to a 2007 Chrysler 300 which I still drive as backup car and love it.

Had a 99 3.2L v6 ES fully loaded with leather seats and the candy apple red paint job. My first car. Since then I've had a fusion, s10, charger, and 2 focus sts and I will forever love that car
