Thanks for sharing your story. We hope to retire in Bali in a few years. I can’t wait.
Lindy would a couple both mid 60.s with a full Australian pension and $350.000 in the bank live comfortably in Bali? Would appreciate your opinion.
@@ronsudden2257 hi Ron I would say definitely YES!!! If you already get the pension then I am pretty sure you can still take it to Bali and your cost of living here is soooo cheap 👍
Great stuff, Lindy and Leigh! Loved it! Hope to meet you in Sanur one day!
@@lalanbond1203 are you living here? Would love to meet up 🙂
Having lived in Bali for 12yrs and built 6 houses with my Balinese wife,be extra careful with long term leases.Plenty of sad stories of people paying huge sums of money only to see the owner die, then the son comes along and the lease isn't recognized over local citizens. Some end up losing everything.
I don't mean to be the grim reaper, but returning to Australia to claim aged pension,as a non resident, you are stuck in Australia for 2 years after first receiving the pension.
Only way around that is spend 183 days per financial year ,to still be classed as an Australian resident.
This is a new rule,if you lived in Oz until retiring,it's fully portable, just not when you have been a non resident.
Anyway enjoy Bali.
Sad story but true 😢
Totally agree Russell . Have property in both countries get your retire kitas with merp spend required time in Oz less hassle tax wise and keep your Oz benefits and have an endless summer
@@albannach6900 ,that's correct with the pension, but firstly you must apply in Australia. If you have been living abroad for even 2 years before applying for it,you are stuck in Oz for 2 years before portability is allowed. You can leave Oz,but time away adds on to the 2 years.
That means that it would be better to find a home free from long term lease? Why is it that most homes have a long term lease? Thank you in advance!
@@shareman1727 ,maybe this was an isolated case, but I've heard many more over the years.Remember 25 years lease is paid up front. I wouldn't be paying up that sort of money unless l owned it.
Great to see Lindy and Leigh living the dream. Instresting interview I think the hardest part is going from tourist to living full time in Bali. Thanks for the vlog.🙏🙏🙏😎😎😎
Would definitely agree with that. It's an adjustment but one we seem to have accomplished 😂

Ive only just discovered this channel. This is the most informative and up to date video I have seen on potential retirement in Bali and as a regular Bali traveller, this is a topic both close to my heart and very much on my mind. Thank you to the Monkeys for conducting a very well presented interview and to the Aussies for such an honest and open response. I'm now following the channel.

Hey Paul. Thanks for positive feedback. Glad you enjoyed the vlog. Cheers 😊
Wow thank you for this very interesting vlog today. We live in Canada and many years ago on our second or third trip to Bali we looked into buying a place in Lovina. It was very complicated and actuality put us off the idea but your video today has got me interested again. It would be wonderful to live in Bali and lease a home. I watch your vlogs everyday and enjoy them very much but today was very different and excellent. Thank you again!
Hi Colleen I'm glad our vlog may have spurred you on to look into living in paradise. Trust me, it wasn't easy!!! But definitely worth it!!!! I had about a 40 step long list if things to do before we left Australia!!!!

You are spot on!!!! There are a lot of different aspects living here as opposed to a one or two week holiday! It's taken us a good 3 months to getting all our processes into place 👍
Nice to listen to this conversation. As if sitting on the edge of this table. After a couple minutes I started to focus more and more on the chocolate cake right in front of the view.... getting distracted from the informative conversation. All this is very inspiring. Thank you for the upload.

What an awesome and informative vlog!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for an informative interview. I have had two short visits to Bali and a few islands east. The retirement sounds good, but I have always had a side-gig to increase incomes and grow in knowledge. Too old to hang with the Canggu digit crowds. Still looking for the advantages of not working at something. The "No working" as a retired guy is scary. Blogging is income, writing, block-chain coding, painting, voice-overs, creating an Indonesian love song, and anything.... At 67 I might not be ready to retire? I have been told, a month of Yoga classes, massages, and walking the beach to think and experience the calm of nature is the only way to go!
Great info and good luck 😀
Thanks! You too!
🙏Thanks 🙏Winny , Damien Lindy and Leigh you’ve given us food for though and hope for an early retirement 🌺❤️Bali ❤️🌺

I READ SOME COMMENTS ABOVE....THAT MORE EASY FOR FOREIGNER TO BUY A VILLA OR HOUSE IN BALI IF THEIR COUPLE WIFE OR HUSBAND IS A BALINESE OR INDONESIA PEOPLE
So lovely, warm & very kind couple. I hope they'll stay better & good in Bali. Good people deserve to have everything good either.
Would you please also interview retirement couple (s) Indo-foreigner(s) ? How to retire in Indonesia specifically Bali if one of the wife/husband is an Indonesian ? Thanks anyway.
I could do it but Im not in to retirement age 🙈
Hi 🇦🇺😀absolutely loved watching this The frogger game 😂made me laugh it’s soooo true
Great job love to see more blogs with your friends 👌🏻
Hi there. Glad you knew what I was talking about with the Frogger game hahaha 🤣🤣🤣 it's exactly like that to us, the traffic 👍
Very inspiring . When we retire we plan to live 6 months every year. But still remain and live in Australia. Very complicated. We wish we could buy a villa . But not possible. Sanur is our favorite place too . Enjoy you new life . 🥰
Sounds great!
That's a perfect plan but wasn't really an option for us
@@lindysutherland4563 It still could be, it's called exchanging residences. Swap houses and some other Australian couple could spend 6 months in Bali in your apartment. No extra costs for rent just the same as if you were still in Bali. Or if you need to return to see family for a month or two, again do a house exchange.
@@steveth1000 that's definitely food for thought. Thanks 👍 Is there a certain site or group you'd recommend for house swapping???
I thought Winny was distracted by the cake on the table 😄 only to later realized that she had a question notes behind that plate.
Haha good one innit 😎🤣
Me toooo 😂😂😂😂
The best interview I have seen that explains about real specifics, so very helpful. Thanks to all of you. Would it be possible to see the villa you have leased, so we can get an idea of the lifestyle. Also are you allowed to include Australian super or rental as income when you apply for the visa? I wish you all the best and thanks for sharing your experience 😊
Hi Alana. Thanks for positive feedback. I might do a video of our villa and share it with anyone privately if they like, but not publicly. Please try and add me on FB that may be easiest 🙏
Yes your superannuation from Australia paid out as a pension is counted as your income.
Hi Alana; There's no proof of income required if you can show a bank balance of US$18,500 as it's only for one year. Be aware that there is legislation in train (the law has been passed but it's not being implemented) that may replace the retirement visa with a five-year second home visa that requires a considerable security deposit.
Thank you for the inspiring story of Bali. I have been there before back in 2000 and it was so great country to spend time on. I love the foods and people there are so friendly. I love the woman too I spent a month there but I almost got married but it didn't happen the family didn't accepted. Anyway I'm watching from Palau which very closed to Bali. Again I'm looking forward to go back there and find the family maybe would be your sister or nice. Thank you for the good conversation,.
Thanks for watching!!!

Hi Russ you don't have to take out a 30 year lease, most people we know here have just yearly leases. But in saying that, with our lease we can onsell it at any time. So it doesn't mean we are locked in here if we want to leave. Cheers

I was suppose to retire in Bali September 2020 but COVID happened. So now my plan is later this year. I have been going to Bali since 1979, it has been a life long want. Finally hopefully !!!

Thank you for this video! Learnt firsthand about retirement in Bali, both of you look so happy & pleased with your move! 👍🏽😁Is that aircraft yours Leigh? Aside from riding your scooter & maybe flying (?), what else can we do? Relaxing & enjoying the sceneries sound tempting but 365 days, do you get bored? If the use the right agent the retirement visa is a fairly easy and straight forward process.
Yes ours was too! Although when we were finally ready to apply for the visa, offshore applications had stopped. For a few months anyway! So we waited and waited until they were open again. Then I guess because of the backlog ours took 5 weeks to be approved. That was a long 5 week wait!!!!
Flights from Australia start from 27th March 2022. Advice for all Australians regardless if you are going overseas on holidays or moving to another country. Open an ING bank account online here in Australia, then all your ATM fees are refunded to you. I spent 3 months in Vietnam and was refunded almost $300 in ATM fees in that space of time away.
I have been using Citibank in Bali for the last 4 years. Also no ATM fees and the best exchange rates
@@rayklein1125 Did you open a Citibank account in Australia? For Americans they can use Charles Schwab bank. Thanks for that info Ray.

Hi Ken I'm glad you are still loving life here in paradise 3 years in. We are only 2 months in and loving it 😍
Really informative video and thanks to all of you who made it! I do have one important question though. We are on a retirement visa landing in Jakarta on Thursday for quarantine. Our house is being sold once we arrive and are secure. How does the banking system work in Indonesia regarding taxes and withdrawals or bank transfer to another country. should we transfer all monies from the house sale to a bank account in Bali??? I ask because someone said that it will be hard to remove from Bali bank account (limit $10,000 USD per month limit if if you transfer money out of Bali) and also, could there could be taxes on a large deposit to a Bali bank account ..?
Hi Rainer 😊 YAY you are nearly here WOOHOO 🎉🎉🎉
As for taxes I do not know anything. We have both opened Indonesian bank accounts since we arrived and they work great. We also both still have bank accounts back in Australia. If I am transferring any large amount into Indonesia from Australia I usually use WISE (was called transferwise). Hope that helps 😘

Hi there small world hey!!!! We loved Wollongong but simply could not afford to live there any more! Bali is a much more affordable option!!!!
If you have any other questions please ask 😁
@@lindysutherland4563 I certainly will, if I have questions. I am a bit younger than the both of you, so I am not ready to retire there. However, I would like to move there, marry a Balinese/Indonesian lady and perhaps build villas to rent to tourists. It's just a dream right now, but the older I get, the more I realise Australia just isn't for me anymore. I'm miserable here, but extremely happy in Bali.
Do you have to re-apply or renew your retirement visa every year? If so, is it cheaper or the same cost for additional years?
Hi Tammy ....great question!!!! And one I didn't answer in the video 👍
You do have to renew your Kitas every year for 5 years. The cost to renew is slightly less than the initial cost to obtain it. Then after 5 years you are able to apply for a Kitap! Which I am pretty sure you only then have to renew every 5 years. Please don't quote me on any of the above though 😉
According to Reuters, Bali will open on October 14th, 2021.
Well sadly that did not happen 😔
Yippee!

Such a lovely couple. Wishing them all the best. Living the Bali dream. They don’t look old enough to be retired 😂 Winnie, great job interviewing them. Things look like they are about to change with the Australian government talking about opening international borders. As well, they will soon be taking supplies of a new Covid medication that will further help fight the virus. Bali will slowly but surely recover once tourism returns. Stay positive guys 🙏❤️

@@caroleunderwood1057 I'm not entirely sure what you mean by legal team? Do you mean visa agent ?
@@lindysutherland4563 yes, sorry that's what I mean
Has the second home visa changed the situation for a lot of retirees in Bali.
From my observation the second home visa has been a bit of a fizzer. We personally don't know anyone on it. And there's not much talk about it anymore
HI Lindy- My name is Raun and I am currently retired in Thailand. They may be changing the requirements soon and Bali is an option I am considering. I have two questions if you don't mind sharing what you know: I read that after you hire an agent, you must leave Bali (and most go to Singapore) then return to make the visa 'complete.' Was this your experience? Also, how much should I expect to pay an agent? And do they help you find a rental home? Thanks again and Congratulations on your new life!
Hi Raun. That was definitely NOT our experience with the visa and agent. We applied for offshore e-visa in Australia which was converted to retirement Kitas visa once we arrived in Bali.
Secondly what you pay an agent varies. Ours was very reasonable and I'm happy to DM you prices and details maybe on Instagram or FB. A visa agent does not help you find a villa though. We did that ourselves 🙂
So so.... So you think a residence permit for Bali would be easier than in Thailand.... 🤔
@@zeus9931 I have absolutely no idea what the situation is like in Thailand and how hard it is to live there. All I know is that we were able to live here!
@@zeus9931 Hi! Everything worked out with my visa extension here. Bali will always be on my short list if I leave Thailand. Thank you for your information :-)
Hey Winnie and Damian... thanks for the informative video. I have a question. Are we allowed to bring our pets to Bali? We have dogs and chickens... I know there are many dogs and chickens in Bali, but our current pets are part of the family and we wouldn't want to leave them behind in Australia?
That's a very good question! Dog's think is no problem but not sure how about other animals
I brought my dog from Oz to Bali in 2002,it's a one way ticket due to the rabies.Plenty of pet pack providers at all airports in Oz to transfer to aircraft, lots of paperwork.
I'm not really sure about that. I believe it is expensive and not entirely legal. That's all I will say
Hi, I’m thanks for this video. So fascinating. With a married couple do both parties have to be 55 and over? My husband is older than me and still works but I don’t at the moment.
Also can you have retirement visa if you have young children? We will be doing adoption or surrogacy soon. Thanks 🙏
Hi Rose! Thanks for watching. I am not entirely sure if the dependancy visa is still available. It used to be that if you were under 55 and your partner was over 55 you could still come. But I've heard that may have changed
@@lindysutherland4563 thanks so much. I will check online and also I will be in Bali from Easter til 8 May. We go there every year since we got married in Ubud 2015 and I’ve stayed 2 months so I have a good idea of what Bali is like but I’m 45.
Great interview btw we appreciate your candour and yes everywhere in oz super expensive even The Gong. Wishing you guys a really enjoyable retirement in Paradise. Perhaps we shall see you there one day ☺️
@@CruzR1111 thanks for the positive feedback about the interview. Will try and do another one in a few months 😉 And maybe we can catch up in paradise one day soon for a drink 🍾🥂
lucky guys
😎
Thank you so much for this very informative post. I would be very interested to know the cost of the visa agent.
I'd be happy to talk to you about our visa costs maybe in private FB DM. Our agency was called Indo expat consulting
@@lindysutherland4563 thank you, I have just messaged you on Facebook
Hi I’m thinking about retiring in Bali and myself will be great if I can get the name of the people that help them with their Visa
And you do a great job on what she is all the time on RUclips🙏🙏
Thanks Ian
Thanks 😊
Lindy will come back to you
Hi Ian. Our visa agent company was called Indo expat consulting
I am nearly 48 and I am thinking of retirement, however I do not want to be doing the same thing daily, is it possible to remotely work from there?
Pretty sure you'd have to look into a business visa. And I'm not entirely sure how that works
Hi, looking at this video again and still wanting to get back to Bali! Is it possible to do a catch up with Lindy and Leigh now they have been living in Bali for a year? Has living through the pandemic been hard for them and are they still committed to staying in Bali for as long as they can?
Will try to make a some chat vlog with them again 🥰
@@TheMonkeys That would be fabulous.❤️
Hi emel. Thanks for watching. We are loving Bali still and been here 9 months now. Plan on staying here maybe 10-15 years!
@@lindysutherland4563 That’s fantastic! Great to hear you’re enjoying your new home. Bali is such a beautiful place and the Balinese people are so full of warmth and good will for each other and life. It would be great if you did another video with the monkeys if you can.😃 I’d love to hear how you managed through Covid, what things have surprised or challenged you since your move to Bali and any other stories you might like to share. 😊💖
@@emeljurd3231 hi there! I've just run the idea by Damian to do another interview with us one year post moving here on our Baliversary 🏝️🌺💦🙏 So stay tuned? Any questions you would like asked let us know ok ☺️
Montenegro, Paraguay, URAGUAY, OTHER CHOICES IS MEXICO, Guadalajara THE SILICON VALLEY OF ALL SOUTH AMERICA.
I hope all goes well, enjoy Bali. These other countries are similar living costs but much easier to actually get a deed and residency.
While I'm sure those countries would be amazing places to retire to, we wanted something closer to home in Australia. Bali is only a 6 hours flight from Sydney so it's perfect for us 😊
