Queen is truly the best, brother! It's basically Brian, Roger, and Freddie in the chorus.

This song finds a young lady coming of age & leaving the nest. Brian asked Freddie to play the piano during the recording because of his perfect timing & rhythm sense! FYI - the song inspired G n R song “Sweet Child Of Mine”, which was, in turn, a song to Axl’s then fiancee (daughter of an Everly Brother). Axl would begin Sweet Child Of Mine by singing a few lines of Sail Away Sweet Sister a cappella.

David-your Queen reactions are the best. This song has special meaning to me as I lost my sister to suicide. “Hot child don’t you know you’re young you got your whole life ahead of you? You can throw it away too soon-way too soon. “. It’s also creepy because the song before it on the album is Don’t Try Suicide. Queen has a song for every situation in life. The bass playing by John at the end blows me away every time I hear it - captures the feeling of the song so well.
Hope you you feel better soon!

Hey David! Welcome back! Love the hoodie... gotta stay warm and fuzzy any way you can...
Since you're taking requests now, how about a Brian May "Van Halen-style finger-picker" by doing "Resurrection", such a great riff... or maybe "Another World", another May classic to celebrate the knighting of Sir Dr. Brian May... blessings and get well soon.

Awesome. I love your Queen reactions! Sir Brian has such a beautiful voice! It's interesting that Brian was an only child, while Freddie, Roger and John all had sisters. Thats why Sir Brian was so close to Freddie, Roger and John, they really were a family and became each other's brothers from different mothers. In fact, during the Rhapsody Tour and at other concerts Sir Brian would introduce Roger as his "brother and best buddy/friend". Sir Brian even made a surprise appearance at one of Roger's solo concerts and Roger introduced him as "my brother from a different mother!" I definitely hope you react to Sir Brian's solo work!

I agree with you. That's what I love about Freddie, too...very supportive of the band...always highlighting their achievements...especially with John who he always encouraged to write songs. Thank goodness John took his advice....several #1 hits for Queen because of John! Great reaction to this gorgeous song by Brian...to my mind, he is a true genius on many levels and the way he plays that guitar...WOW...right up there with Jeff Beck for me. (I think Brian and Jeff wouldn't mind sharing that place in my heart with each other - they were good buddies after all. Rest peacefully, Mr. Beck.). If you haven't done so already, you might enjoy "Bijou" from the Queen album, "Innuendo". Brian's guitar, Freddie's short, but powerful vocals...I believe that Queen Official only released a studio version. I get goosebumps from that song. Love your reactions.

I've been listening to Queen for around 10 years at this point, still my favorite band, listen to some (or a lot) of Queen basically every single day since I discovered them, I know their entire catalogue, B-sides, demos, live shows, and their solo work, front to back. I play multiple instruments too, so my ear tends to be quite good with Queen now. To answer your question about the harmonies. Its mostly Brian's voice high in the mix, the first chorus is 100% Brians voice alone doing harmonies. The 2nd chorus is probably about 70-80% Brian, but i can definitely hear Freddie and Roger adding to it far back in the mix to give it some extra color. The "way too soon" is mostly Freddie harmonies, but the whole band is in the mix, and im 100% sure that the high note at the end was Roger, he has a very distinct falsetto tone, different to Freddie's, now thats not to say Freddie could have harmonized it lower in the mix, but its pretty hard to hear if so. And in the 3rd chorus, its like 60% Brian, they raised Roger and Freddie in the mix, and i can especially hear Rogers falsetto lines subtly in their as well, so the mix for that last chorus is probably something like, 60% Brian, 25% Roger, 15% Freddie. I can recognize each voice individually really well at this point (which is really cool but sometimes it can hurt my listening experiance because i start to focus in on only one of their voices during some harmonies 🤣) And Hot Space was the peak of Queen delving into funk and disco, so that album in particular was super polarizing, which made a lot of people fall off for their future records, but by the end of their releases, they gained a good amount back. But the follow up albums to Hot Space never went as far as Hot Space, they dialed back the funk thing, still used it, but more tastfully and usually with more of a rock overtone, where rock is the main genre, but funk and disco now had a place in their sound, just no where near as prominent.

“Sail Away Sweet Sister (To the Sister I Never Had)” was written by Brian and, of course, he is singing the lead vocals. The bridge was sung by Freddie. It does sound a bit like a Guns N' Roses song.

Sail Away Sweet Sister has the least 'sisterly like' lyrics to me despite how Brian explains it. Reads more like he's in love with someone younger than himself. Not sure about the harmonies, sure sounds like Freddie! Freddie can quietly match his harmonies in back up vocals if he needed to. I adore Brian's voice here though.
