Dr. Diamon and her colleagues have a book: Treating Pathological Narcissism with Transference-Focused Psychotherapy. It is a really helpful tomb for the leading developments of NPD and its treatments (mainly with TFP). I recommend that for more of her wisdom and insight.

Thank you to Charlotte for allowing these interviews; they give such insight into what BPD is like. The self-loathing that comes with BPD doesn’t seem to get much airtime. Despite my DBT and CBT treatments, I have never been able to rid myself of my extreme self-hatred. I have learned to hide it fairly well, but it’s always there. I cannot look at a picture of myself because I feel that I’m hideous, and I barely look in mirrors. If doing so is unavoidable, I can actually see myself getting uglier; scars get bigger, wrinkles become worse, nose gets larger. Feeling ugly inside and out has been the curse of my life. 😔

This is simple. You have a gift. You’ve used your gift to harm others. Misguided self protection. I bet you crushed the hell out of romantic partners. They’ll never get over what you did. That’s the power of your gift. Now that it’s established you can read others and see them for who they are, imagine using that gift to see the good in others, to see their gifts and strengths. To see when they’re struggling and why. Only one thing remains. Talk to them. Tell them what you see. Let them get to know themselves in a positive way. Use the gift for good. Help others. It will lift you to a higher place you’ve never known.
You’ll still be whatever you are. There’s no fixing that. But you don’t have to be the ugly person you’ve been taught to think of yourself. Tell your brain to F off. Your mind is flawed but beautiful. The brain and body are still protecting you from horrible childhood events that are long gone.
There is a cure. I have the high level approach but can’t find anyone who has a specific gift to make the cure take place. I believe that person is a fellow narcissist or borderline whose inner child is screaming to save other inner children. Only an inner child can save another inner child.

This self-hatred is deeply rooted as it often comes from childhood abuse/neglect. On a conscious level, I know it should be different but the subconscious is holding me back in toxic patterns. It’s more subtle, better controlled but still there 😢

I’m really sorry to hear this :( if you like to read, I’d recommend the Power of Now, it discusses the conscious and subconscious mind (the negative programmes that continuously run in our minds) and how to be totally present (thereby allowing yourself to let go of these thoughts or subconscious feelings) you don’t have to and it may not apply to you or your specific experiences just thought I’d recommend in case it could be of help as it has really helped me 💛💛

Hi, just reading your comment. I feel the same. I just thought about those toxic relationships, and it dawned on me that i.m.e. the upside from them is firstly kinda feeling justified to be angry. And secondly the s.o. often times experienced extensive trauma too so you can relate on some level.
But it nevertheless being not good for you ofcourse.

I'm really glad I watched this after seeing the interview with Charlotte because the anxiety Dr. Diamond references was so glaring that the first part of the video felt exploitative and inappropriate. If not for the integrity I've sensed in the handful of videos I've seen on this channel and the notation that subjects see and approve the edit I would have stopped watching. It's healing for *my* nervous system that Dr. Diamond's compassion and respect for Charlotte are so evident in this debrief, and I hope Charlotte watches and rewatches it and lets that really sink in. : - ) I certainly have great respect and admiration for Charlotte too! ❤

The mourning is real. I tried to end myself with alcohol for years. Then I quit 13 years ago. To this day I still mourn that self abuse, now because I can finally find grace with myself and be gentle and it feels so, so sad. But I am grateful that I can have that kind of empathy. Dr. Diamond has so much empathy for others, and yet she doesn't seem to take on other people's issues, she seems to accept them as they are.
I do agree that people who have recovered from BPD can, with enough training and therapy, become *amazing* psychotherapists, and even LCSWs. I do not agree, in any way, shape, or form, that people with NPD can be good therapists for anyone except other narcissists.
It is said that all a therapist needs to do in order to create a therapeutic relationship is be able to do is provide UPR. I disagree. UPR is the *bare minimum* and lowest bar someone needs to meet.
If I had it my way, anyone diagnosed with NPD would be legally barred from ever being able to practice medicine, to obtain any kind of licensing for therapy, they should be barred from law enforcement, the teaching profession, any kind of childcare, and certainly never be able to hold public office of any kind, and never be allowed to hold the position of judge at any level in the legal system. These are jobs that *require a well-calibrated moral compass*, empathy for others, and integrity that drives them to do the right thing, even when no one is looking.
I've had 3 different clients who were therapists and also clinically diagnosed narcissists. The stories they told me, right after they retired, about how they financially exploited vulnerable clients looking for a parental figure (read: patients with BPD), actually physically sickened me. One called herself a holocaust survivor, despite not being Jewish...but Polish...and she was forced into a work camp with her family, where her architect father was forced to create building plans for their community...and how she kept this vulnerable woman in therapy for 8 years, coincidentally at the same time both of her daughters were going through undergrad and graduate school...made me sick.
It should be *requisite* that narcissists identify themselves as such, so others know just what an exploitive, entitled, morally bankrupt individual they're actually dealing with.
When I called out my most toxic client on what she was doing to me: projecting, manipulating, acting in an entitled manner, financially abusing me, she went WHITE...either not realizing what she was doing or not aware that I knew what she was doing and going to call her on it. She told me, "I have some problems...serious problems...and you need to protect your mental health". That was ONLY after I called her on exactly what she had been doing. This woman had been a psychologist at a major hospital for 25 years and she retired a week before I cut all contact with her. She *never stopped financially exploiting people*, her children were in their 40s and she never stopped being abusive to them (or exploiting them), she also tried to sabotage both of them professionally, one was the head of infectious disease at a major hospital, and her mother did this to her in Oct of 2020.
This is why I disagree with Dr. Diamond when she says people with personality disorders can be psychotherapists. It may be LEGAL...it is not in any way ETHICAL for narcissists, sociopaths, malignant narcissists, or psychopaths to be psychotherapists.
They harm TOO MANY PEOPLE, and they really prey on those who are most vulnerable and unable to fight back (like their own children, extremely vulnerable patients).

aggression and damage inflicted on others is also abuse on ones self. When you hurt others, you are at the same time hurting yourself. At least, this is how it relates to my experience.

5:50 forgiving oneself for aggressing against others.
I am searching for that since more than a year and am not sure if I ever will be able to - forgive myself.
There is no reparation possible anymore.
There is no going back or turning back the clock or even to say "I wish I knew" seems like a meaningless statement.
Just turned 49 and for the first time in my life I start to get to know myself and where I came from and more importantly start to understand why I have been such a strange person with emotional disregulation.
Thru faith I accept that whatever happened was meant to happen but I can't find forgivness for myself or even think to have compassion for my own skin.
I wish I would find someone to be able to share my story and maybe find closure ...
In loving memory of my girl...
Never wanted to hurt you, never.

I know people gonna hate on me for saying this, so I'll save them time. I dont care. Dr. Diamond should stick to NPD because imo she hasn't a clue about BPD. Ilistened to her videos on NPD and she seems to know her stuff. But man, it was painful to watch that BPD interview with Charlotte, who I called the BRAVEST PERSON IN THE WORLD - but yeah, again, Dr. Diamond, no...surprising, since her colleague Prof. Yeomans seems to have such a good understanding of BPD.

I noticed in some of the other videos she had to check herself with her hair and clothing and tried to make herself appear better looking ... but more help is needed. The doctors are ALWAYS VERY professional looking and her look ruins this YT video a bit.
