You are correct, I think the next step is finding the best setting for my monitor. The problem with adding masks or grid lines is it darkens the picture. I’m looking forward to trying the 4K morph out. Thanks for your comment. 🙏
Looks much sharper, especially around the text and on screen graphics. The rev counter on ridgeracer shows a huge difference. The upgrade had a lot more brightness than the original as well, again I noticed it most on the namco page when ridgeracer loads. Great video though mate, keep it coming 💪🏻👍🏻
Ridge Racer definitely showed more difference, RUclips compression doesn’t help with the comparison but overall the sharper image is definitely noticeable. Thanks for watching 🙏
Hi, No it doesn’t support HDR, the new MORPH 4k will and Ile be putting that up soon on review. Scalers are built into the retro gems, although you will need shiny edition unless you are prepared to buy the 4k morph. Look out for my review soon of the 4k Morph, Ile explain it all there. 🙏👍
If I remember correctly I did it through the console itself, I had to connect it to WIFI. Once I’ve finished work Ile have a proper look for you. Also there is a Discord where you can ask questions. 👍
Thank you for the video it helps when looking into playing retro games in modern TVs, it's been over 20 years since last time I played my first ever console game N64 and now I want to play again but of course I find myself with a modern TV, do you think the best way to play n64 on a modern TV is with the PixelFX basic kit or shiny edition? It'd be great to have advice from you, thank you very much
I think you should go Shiny Edition as it unlocks a lot of awesome features. I have purchased a HDMI kit for my N64, it’s from Ali Express and not pixel FX, my plan is to create a video soon but got quite a lot backed up at the moment. 👍
Hey I recently installed a retro gem shiny on my PS2 and I swear the picture looks worse than just a normal PS2. Any advice for what I should be doing with the settings?
TBH I mainly play on my PS3 (backwards) with the Morph 4k and that seems to be the best for me now. If I’m playing on PS2 I have smoothing enabled and depending on TV will depend what filters I use. It’s definitely dependent on games too.
I must admit I have an old LG flat screen from 2015 and it looks amazing on that. Would obviously look better on CRT but it’s the closest I can find standard. Will defo show some of the filter options on the next Pixel FX vid. Thanks for your comment 🙏
I like the standard better, the colours are better, for some reason, the retro gem has some jitter and the pixelation just makes it look bad, I'm much rather the lower resolution and blur. The only thing I like about the Gem is text/UI sharpness, but even then it looks choppy.
The image can look choppy without any filters, I will do another video soon when I get the Morph 4K and run through the filters. That may improve it for you, Ile also compare it to PS3 running PS2 games. Thanks for your time and comment. 🙏
It’s a impressive mod but pcsx2 just looks so much better ,now if the devs can figure out how to run or attach a gpu to the PlayStation then it would be phenomenal but sadly it’s not possible
I will give the emulator a try next time, I actually love having the physical disc and putting it in. I would love them to remake the PS2 or PS3 to improve emulation or native play, it would be awesome. GPU Mod would be incredible too. 😮

Improves a lot. But the higher resolution also brings a lot of aliasing. I still thinks ps2 is made to be played on a crt tv with component cable.

Do not time to fully watch the review atm.
But does this support full hdr?
what scaler is best for someone whos consoles are retro gem modded?

I bought the upgrade to shiny. but how do you get it onto the console? There were no instructions?

@@ChickenPopGames thanks for your advice yes I think is also better to go for the shiny as modern TVs gets better, looking forward to that one 👍

Is the retro gem worth it on gameplay sir
The standard looks better, vibrant colors. I like to feel the original in every console i own.

The colours on the RetroGEM are objectively more accurate to the developer's intent
I like the standard better, the colours are better, for some reason, the retro gem has some jitter and the pixelation just makes it look bad, I'm much rather the lower resolution and blur. The only thing I like about the Gem is text/UI sharpness, but even then it looks choppy.

The colours aren't better. They have a green tint while the RetroGEM has a more neutral colour tone
Love this boss man
Thanks dude 🙏
Can you compare the image quality to a backwards compatible PS3?
Yes, I can do this soon, when the Morph 4k arrives Ile include that on the video 👍🙏
@@ChickenPopGamesAwesome. When can we expect the video?
@@ChickenPopGamesI've got an A01 PS3 and I'm trying to find out if the RetroGEM has better image quality
@@MichaelM28 well, I’m currently in the process of a game pick ups video, then controller video so you could say 2 weeks
@@ChickenPopGamesOK. What model PS3 is it? The full hardware or partial emulation model?

Standard 100% looks better for just cause 2, the contrast looks awful on the retro gem everything is blown out and it's way too jagged.
