1% damage for footstools? (Just damage, not extra knockback or anything) If people can have damaging taunts, I don’t think it would be that broken to add that.
A real interesting mechanic with Little Mac is his ground attacks don't suffer a 'clanking' animation when his moves clank with an opponent's, almost always giving him the frame advantage especially with his frame 1 jab, tied for the fastest jab in the game along with ZSS.
You sure it's not just a power advantage? If an attack is much stronger than the other, it can completely overtake the clash (unless it's aerial or transcendent).
@@MrAuthor3DS as a competitive Mac main, it's not a power trade/clash/, his grounded attacks does clank, but he has frame advantage and all his tilts don't suffer rebound, for some reason, his smashes does clank
@@chinelo_jpg a lot of his grounded attacks don't have rebound. His tilts can't be clanked at all. For some reason his smash attacks can but none of his tilts will clank. His f tilt can go through a move that would do 100% without even acknowledging it
A lot of people forget about Sephiroth's forward air making him stick to the stage, people usually fall for it if you connect it with a jump and a charged up B
This is honestly my favorite thing to mess with people using when I play online (if I do lol), they never see the Sephy Stick, as I like to call it, coming
Here's a fun one: if timed correctly, Snake's box taunt can be used to block an incoming attack while he is tossing the box away. (I am salty because that one specifically cost me a victory...)
Spamming the box taunt in a way where you you throw it off the ledge will annoy anyone who is trying to recover. I’m a Snake main, I know this from experience. Also it’s hilarious.
If you didn't win because your opponent was taunting on you and the projectile hitbox stopped you from taking advantage, you were never going to earn a real victory.
Rob's real hidden mechanic is that he doesn't get his recovery back when he grabs ledge. The jet fuel for his up B recharges over time when you stand on stage but not when you grab ledge
The only differences between peach and daisy are daisy's side smash is always club and her hit box is smaller as a joke to have the princess be opposite heights of their respective mario brother
Calling some of these a "hidden mechanic" is generous. Some of these are just characteristics, such as Fox fall speed, which is definitely not unique. I'd classify a hidden mechanic as what most modern games would call a "passive" which is something like Peach float, K Rool belly armour or Hero's mana bar.
lol yeah, when I see "hidden mechanic" I expect it to be about the random fun quirks added to different characters, like piranha plant not being footstool, and then when he goes over it at the star I assumed he meant special properties beyond their moves like float, but then it gets some bs like saying "dark samus' special mechanic is ANGLING SMASH ATTACKS". like wtf? Dozens of characters do that, and this implies it's unique to only dark samus, not samus...
@@Toast0nyx yeah fr. Off the top of my head, here are some more chars with angleable smashes: mario, luigi, rob, byleth, shulk, krool, kirby, little Mac, Simon, richter, mii brawler.... as you can see, it's a mechanic unique to dark samus~
idk about the rest of the cast but it is slightly better than Samus's though the trade off is that I think Samus's roll is technically better since Dark Samus just kinda shifts around into place instead of doing the morph ball roll
Dark Samus's up smash hits lower than Samus's. It can land up smash on a larger portion of the cast. In addition, Side B comes out slightly lower, potentially hitting smaller characters better.
Nobody ever brings up the fact that Steve is the only character who can do a walking up tilt, which is so ground breaking, it just shows how unique Steve truly is,
Puff actually does have a normal shield break animation, if there is something above her which she cannot pass through she will hit it and lose her momentum and be shieldbroken on the ground for a couple of seconds.
If her shield breaks below a chain of portals on a custom stage, she can also get enough air time to eventually lose momentum and start falling. It doesn't go up forever, just longer than any normal stage has room for.
It's unfortunate that it's not easy to make that happen in a regular match, you pretty much need to setup for it. Most won't ever see this if they're playing competitive since stages with ceilings are banned. - .-)"
All mewtwo's B specials stop his aerial moment as long as he is in the air, double jump is not required, however he can as Dane mentioned above, also stall his double jump with any of his aerial A attacks.
11:20 Yeah.....sorry but Ivysaur does NOT have the strongest Up-smash in the game. He has the third strongest. Ganondorf has the second strongest, and Lucas has THE strongest Up-smash.
@@Kragglover2003 sure. in terms of character specific buffs, hero wins, Wii fit probably wins, hell maybe even shulk wins. But when it comes to the up smash itself with no buffs, Lucas...has THE STRONGEST up smash in the game. I have tested this myself and have watched videos about this. Ganon still loses to Lucas and Falcon doesn't come close to the top 3, which again is Lucas then Ganon then Ivysaur.
@@gustavobarcos5657 Para have stronger attacks, Mythra is better character, the same way that Ganondorf have really strong attacks but Pikachu is a stronger character
As for terry another great mechanic everyone forgot is that if you spot dodge and quickly press A he does a weak up tilt sort of move giving him the spot dodge upper hand.
For Wii Fit Trainer, the real hidden mechanic is in their down special. It increases their damage and launch power, walk and dash speeds, air and fall speeds, and while it does heal 2% of her damage, it also reduces how much damage Wii Fit takes by ~10%. It’s literally a temporary upgrade button. Wii Fit Mainers United
@@Lordbowser666 Yessir, also this is unrelated, but her down air is i think the only stomp in the game that doesn't spike grounded opponents. In exchange for this rare drawback, her down air is also one of the fastest and most consistent spikes, and the hit box covers her waist area, making it one of the easiest spikes to land as well. Remember to stretch those legs
7:43 One thing that is important to note: Unlike the other passive shields, Young Link's Kokiri Shield won't block projectiles with the "fire" property. So any projectiles that set you on fire can't be blocked by it, this also applies to explosions (as long as they set on fire).
Mii Brawler’s best hidden ability is the fact when he hits his Flashing Mac Punch, he’s invincible throughout the entire move, which is excellent in group matches since he can’t be touched, otherwise the opponent may be sucked into the move as well when trying.
Actually links blade beam can be charged up with his smash attack and deals up to 15% when fully charged as well as it also travels further and can also be used to make his forward smash stronger, a fully charged forward smash at 0% deals 49.8% and will break shield.
For some of these you really should have mentioned that the base and clone share the same characteristic. (For newer players, mostly) Like with Lucina and Marth, knowing that they both share the best walk in the game does wonders for Marth because it allows for better spacing.
"Hidden Ability" isn't a thing. I get what you're going for, but at multiple times you say false things entirely out of trying to create a narrative that these are a defined attribute of every character. The nonsense of giving echos different abilities is especially egregious. Theres also many times when this setup limits you by not letting you discuss multiple cool things about a character. **Not a crticism exactly, but just gonna list a bunch of omissions I thought would have been here.** Yoshi is unable to be shield poked. Ness/Lucas insane airdodge G&W animation ambiguity and safesty upB out of shield. Pits having the least consistent multihit in the game Croy having the best jab in the game Diddy is the only tripping move that isn't luck based Sonic has the fastest run speed Ridley has the safest ledge hang in the game ROB fuel essentially gives him 8 jumps. He also turns around during his double jump briefly which can be used. Little Mac having super armor smash attacks + basically unusable aerials + uniquely bad air dodge Samus has the longest tether, and i think ledge roll Greninja side b is the only move that can be done while shielding Minato Arts makes way more sense for shulk than back slash. Shield Mode in particular gives shulk unique properties. I think minato switch is the only move that can be done in hitstun. shoto command inputs Ridley is using down special Piranha plant can be spiked when extending himself. Hero hidden situational probability skewing steve has many many many mechanics Pyra side b is the only move to take away your ability to attack while still letting you be mobile Kazuya rage, unique jump squat, varient tough guy luigi designed for 0-death grabs, misfire Sephiroth wall stall palu has the only reflect+counter except for arsene Random Mechanics that didn't get brought up: water zairs tether recoveries command grabs damage type immunities/weaknesses infinite recoveries desyncs I enjoyed the video, but just wish you had treated it as "every mechanic in smash characters" rather than "every characters mechanic" because every character doesn't have mechanics, and others have a lot.
Some more to add: Ness/Lucas can reflect projectiles with their F-Smashes Corrin can also wall stall with S-Special Wario can ride another Wario's bike K Rool is the only character who has a unique shield break stun in midair Min Min is the only character that can use Smash attacks in midair Terry the only character with a back special
Love how you said steve has many, many mechanics, and as a steve main it is my duty to list as many unique ones as I can think off. Steve’s neutral b is the only one in the game that changed depending on position on the ground. If he is in front of a crafting table, he will use it (assuming he has avaliable resources to do so). Otherwise he mines the ground. Steve’s mining special is the only special move that changed depending on the ground he is on. This changes what tool he uses, what materials he gets (assuming it’s not an omega or battlefeild stage), and his mining speed (again, assuming not an omega of battle feild stage). Steve’s neutral special in the air is the only move in the game that can create a ceiling or wall. Not floor, pacman also does that with hydrant. HOWEVER, it is the only move that can do all of these things in the air, with no ground below. As a consequence of this, Steve can preform Smash attacks in the air, assuming you can place blocks. Steve’s neutral special in the air is the only move in the game that changes depending on the stage, which changes his dirt to wool on stages like magicant, sand on stages like tortimer island, and ice on only mount summit. Steve’s side b, minecart, is the only move in the game (probably) that can be either a hitbox or a command grab, plus it’s the only command grab that is a projectile. Steve’s up b, elytra, is the only move that uses a gliding system. It’s not the same as in Smash Brawl, but it works similarly. Steve has the lowest ground jump in the game, but in the context of his building mechanic, it can potentially be argued as more beneficial than detrimental. Steve has no idle animations at all. Technically affects gameplay since idle animations affect hurtboxes. Steve can alter his hurtbox by moving the control stick up and down by moving his head (except when you end up crouching, but he can move his head while crouching too.) Steve’s down tilt is the only downtilt that is a projectile, though i might be wrong on that. Steve’s down smash is the only downsmash that is a projectile, again, might be wrong. Steve is the only character other than robin who’s normal attacks and air attacks can have different damage, speed, and range properties depending on what tools he has and what materials they are made of. Steve has the only down air in the game that is a stall then fall that can be canceled. Steve has the only fair and bair in the game that changes when buffered from the ground. The picaxe is replaced with the sword, it’s much faster, and suited for combos. Also, it’s nicknamed sfair and sbair for sword fair and sword bair. Steve is the only character in the game with exactly 4 alternate characters as alts, namely Alex, Zombie, and Enderman. Bowser jr has the most at 8, but no one has exactly 4. This doesn’t include sora’s four unique character portrait poses, it’s all Sora, the same character, and uses the same name. Steve is the only character in the game that doesn’t show an animation for jumpsquat, he just stands there for 3 frames, then “jumps.” Obviously based on minecraft jumping mechanics. Steve is the only character EXCEPT for Mr. Game and Watch who doesn’t use roughness textures, which are used to make characters look more detailed and 3d. Steve is the only character in the game that has a “resource mechanic”. A unique bar or other visual indicator is by no means original to him, but it’s so complicated he deserves that title. Steve’s foward tilt, up tilt, and nair is the only move that can be indefinitely preformed. Jab goes to tons of characters by holding A, nair would go to bayonetta, but her nair isn’t indefinite, just lasts for a while assuming you hold nair. Steve’s grab is the only grab that can grab below him, though not by much. I know some of these weren’t exactly about actually useful game mechanics, but I got sidetracked and did them. I’ll leave them anyway.
Depending on the ice climber skin you use, you either control popo or nana Also if you point blank final smash with mii swordsman, and your opponent tries to move towards you, you can do upwards of 120% in a matter of seconds
Nice work on the video, but sweet lord you missed a few things. Here are a couple "mechanics" you probably should have mentioned: - Link: Sword beam is a unique mechanic, yes, but Link also has the highest difference between his normal and fastfall speeds of any character in the game. Link can essentially become a fastfaller on command. Also his arrows can be picked up. - Yoshi's shield is an egg, which stops him being shield poked. He can also use a tech called double jump cancelling which allows him to halt upwards momentum using a special move. - Luigi side b has RNG. - Ness has double jump cancelling, and his F-Smash reflects projectiles. - Captain Falcon has the worst dash animation in the game. - Peach also has double jump cancelling. - Jigglypuff has like ten other gimmicks you should have mentioned lmao - Ice climbers are immune to slipping on ice. - Zelda can teleport cancel and displace her phantom using very specific frame inputs. - Mewtwo has double jump cancelling and teleport cancelling. - Meta Knight is one of the few characters with a teleport who can't teleport cancel. - Zero Suit Samus has two side specials depending on how you hold the button. - Wario's neutral B doesn't always charge his waft; it depends on whether or not the thing he ate was an item or an item projectile. - Snake is basically "gimmicks, the character" but mentioning his frame 1 grenades would have been good. - Pokemon Trainer can use a special move to cancel the animation of the pokemon switch, allowing for it to be done again very quickly. - Lucas' double jump cancelled zair allows him to change his momentum in midair. - I don't know why you didn't explain how Olimar's pikmin system works. - Toon Link's bombs have a hurtbox, as do adult Link's. - Villager side B has a hurtbox, can stall on ledges, and can be sped up and slowed down when riding. Inputting a watering can down B during your initial dash gives you a huge burst of speed. - Megaman can cancel his aerial landing lag using Rush Coil. Leaf shield can cancel upwards momentum, and Leaf shield itself can be cancelled using a dash tech. - Rosalina can utilize attack cancelling very well (not really a unique mechanic, but you put Fox's fall speed on the list, soooo...) - Little Mac is one of the major causes of gamer depression - Greninja has a tech called hydro pump cancelling. He ALSO has the ability to parry moves on frame 1 rather than frame 3, using his side B shadow sneak. - Palutena can teleport cancel. - Pac Man has about five thousand unique mechanics you could have mentioned. - Duck Hunt's down B has variable RNG properties which change the attack range, damage, and knockback. Neutral B can be controlled even while in the middle of another animation. - Ryu and Ken have a very useful movement tech using focus attack cancels. Not only do they also have special cancelling, but they are also the only characters who can cancel their down smash into a special move. - Cloud has different movement stats while limit is fully charged. - Bayonetta can cancel up B to get a third double jump. - Inkling can use Side B to slow down the opponent. Also, their dash animation is... you know. - You can wiggle Isabelle's fishing rod. it's super cute and i love it - Joker has a TON of ridiculous movement tech with his neutral B. I hate it. - Banjo and Kazooie can turnaround cancel neutral B to pull of some amazing combos. - Terry has special cancelling also... Why is this not mentioned. - Min Min's up smash can reflect... Because that's balanced. - Steve has quite possibly the most hidden tech in the entire game lmao I won't blame you for not including all of it - Sora has double jump cancelling, but in a different way than all other characters, because he can do it with his aerials too. - Sakurai has a unique passive defense ability which allows him to be completely immune to sensible external opinions of his design choices. This allows Sakurai to give minimal fucks when faced with questions like "Why does Rob have that down tilt? Why is Sonic like this?" or "Why does Young Link have better frame data than some rushdown characters?"
@@pine_float1170 his dash dance doesn't exist essentially, you're forced to pivot every time you turn around with him. It guts his movement so hard and it's genuinely unpleasant, I'm pissed that they didn't patch it lmao. Fatality has videos about falcon's dash animation if you want more explanation!
“Hidden” is used super loosely here. Dk cargo throw is just the dudes moveset. Mario side b is just a straight up listed attack. Dont get me wrong there sre some good ones here like pancaking or docs kicks but so many are just a move.
Interesting mechanic about Corrin is that they have the fastest "Shield Dash". I forget what the physical property is that causes this but its handy at dealing with zoners slightly better.
Metaknight specials in turn have sweetspots where if you use them correctly give you either 0 or much less landing lag. Side b can bounce onto a platform or be angled down to finish on the ground instead of bouncing or falling. Neutral b is the prime example. Flying quite a bit above the land will have you land with zero landing lag. During it not high enough will have you finishing the ending animation on the ground. Finishing too high will have in free fall. Down b is already super hard to punish but if you finish slightly above the ground, you'll have zero down time when you hit the ground. Up b doesn't have this, but a skilled mk can grab ledge with the first loop of up b. It's risky because you have to do a reverse up b from under the stage and missing gives the opponent a huge opportunity for a punish.
Samus's unique ability would be having the longest rolls in the game. Mii gunner, mii swordfighter and prob some others have variable side b's Ivysaur's would be having the longest tether. The tether is so long that in mega smash, you fall into the blastzone for trying to recover with it.
Some missed things: -If you miss with Joker’s final smash, you can smash the joystick to turn around for another hit. -Ganondorf’s neutral special has super armor. -Steve’s TNT explodes faster when hit with fire moves. -Steve’s down tilt is a projectile that can fall off stage. -You can make both Ice climbers do separate commands. -Snake, Sonic, and Banjo are some of the few characters whose up specials don’t put them in free-fall. -Bowser Jr.’s up air changes from a hammer into a wand if you play as a Koopaling. -Greninja’s down taunt deals damage.
Incineroar’s revenge doesn’t go away when grabbed, it’s when he’s thrown or takes enough damage (around 60% iirc). iirc it also goes away after a certain amount of time if it’s not used.
Kirby eating and stealing character's moves is his hidden ability. Wow, that's incredible, I had no idea that he could do that. What an amazing hidden ability, it was so well hidden, it's a shock that anyone was able to find out about it wow.
I felt like I needed to come down here and clarify something. When discussing Joker's ability, you said "...has caused players such as MKLeo to win major events." This makes it sound like Leo's winning because Joker's busted, but Leo's record speaks for itself. He doesn't have to use a top tier character to be one of the best players in the community. Like Joker's busted, sure, but Leo isn't being carried at all. Dude was winning with Ike before this.
@@Lordbowser666 He trash for being the only person to make a character work suggesting it's his skill that makes the character? Vs. Not just using the characters everyone say are they best in the game like most other high level professional players do?
@@Lordbowser666 Obviously you do care, because then you wouldn't have made your statement. You said specifically that it's because he uses Byleth you don't like him, so you have to explain the reasoning behind it. Sound more like that you just don't like MkLeo just because, which is generally a mob mentality behavior seen in competitive video game scenes whenever a single person is more successful than others. People start hating them as it makes them unnaturally stand out from a crowd. It's very similar to the mentality that causes group bullying that Lost Judgement decided to focus it's story on.
There is also one hidden mechanic Snake has, a similar randomized system like Hero's critical hit. But it only change an appearance. Sometimes his C4 shape is a butterfly instead. It's harder to spot with a glance.
@@pkfiremain710 C3 is more sensitive to external interference such as touching fire or getting shot, C4 only explodes upon trigger mechanism. Thus this one definitely is a C4.
@@pkfiremain710 first of all, both C3 and C4 are malleable. Secondly, it's Solid Snake, not Naked Snake from MGS3. So it's making more sense to be C4. Lastly, you can check his moves list in the help menu, it's C4.
@@tomjordan4123 Yeah. They pulled his moves from random titles. ...like mgs3. SmashWiki says this. "There is a 1-in-6 chance that Snake will plant a butterfly-shaped C3 explosive instead of the regular brick-shaped C4."
*Few forgotten things worth mentionning:* - Up throws that make both characters disappear from the screen such as Charizard's actually have a useful aspect in competitive play. It kills you or your opponent off screen if used when a detonable object is attached to one off the characters and about to explode. - Banjo's wonderwing/side b is invincible but can be beaten by grabs. - Terry has another very special mechanic which allows him to counter attack during a spot dodge. The superior part of his body becomes invincible during it. - The fact that Pichu damages itself allows you to control your own rage effect, which I guess isn't totally negative.
I feel like Hero has the most abilities. He has a Passive shield like Link He has a MP bar which like Robin is ammo for his Specials He has a forward Tilt in which uses his shield ln which like Plautena has invincibilty frames. And lastly the Crits.
I'd argue it's Kazuya The most normal attacks in the game Crouch dashing Tough guy armor Rage when he reaches 100% Super armor on smash attacks A move that reflects projectiles EWGF His victory screens being the only ones with a different announcer (not a mechanic per say, but a noticeable difference all the same)

This video was so poorly made lmao. Most of these aren’t secrets or that special + incomplete info.
@@alabph pretty sure he said "casual item" as in "not character specific, sure, maybe "casual item at will" would be a better way to word it, but geez, no need to be such a jerk; specially considering some characters don't really have any hidden stuff but rather a unique attribute
I think one thing that could be mentioned with the pits is at least I’m mistaken the only characters to have multiple reflectors in their kit. Both their side and down b can work as reflectors. While some characters have an absorber and reflector like ness and lucas and counter and reflector in one move like palu and joker, the pits are the only ones to have two different reflectors.
With Sephiroth, his little hidden ability is he can stick his sword on the side of the stage or wall which isn't explained in the move list. Also I think that Sora's unique mechanic is that the fact he can do his three hit combo from neutral. Lastly, Kazuya is the only fighter whose taunt is a freaking combo lol.
I cant believe you didnt mention that robin can pick up his tomes/sword and throw them. They fly really fast, are hard to see, and send people flying. I used to main robin and I would purposely spend a tome just to get them to throw.
Kazuya's dash is fully invulnerable. And you missed Sora's mechanic, a large majority of his moves have a lingering hitbox that will still hit the opponent a couple frames after most moves would have missed.
Possibly an slightly unknown one, peach and daisy can switch their forward smash to the frying pan and tennis racket if you tilt up or down while doing so
Bayonetta also has a detrimental mechanic where she gets more landing lag for each special move she uses before landing. This effect also stacks so sometimes a full combo can leave you with an insane amount of landing lag like closer to a full second.
The way you phrase so many of these just omits the fact that other characters share similar traits. This idea would have been better if you organized the list by the mechanic and not the character. And characters with multiple mechanics, you would only really mention one
Another detail about Dedede: his inhale has no upper limit on how strong of a projectile it can reflect. That means that if a projectile (like a Gordo) is being reflected back and forth, the other character’s reflect will break first
Ivysaur up smash is not the strongest in any way. Captain Falcon's kills a bit earlier and deals a lot more damage if you hit both sweet spots. Lucas' u-smash also kills earlier and deals more damage
Why would you word this as though every character, including echos, has exactly one ability? For example, with Peach and Daisy, you state that Daisy can pull out items (like Mr. Saturn, which insta-breaks shields, and Bob-Ombs, which simply do massive damage in an explosion) but you word it in such a way that implies Peach can't do the same. Through testing, it's clear that Peach obviously *can* pull out items when they're turned off.
An interesting mechanic with K. Rool besides his belly armor is his ability to turn around mid successful counter, potentially allowing for an early kill if the opponent tries to edge guard and if their hurtbox reaches behind K. Rool
Byleth's real hidden mechanics are that when you hit opponents with up special it is untechable past 50% and their tether can only grab ledge 3 times, after which it fails.
@@nassoltd you can tether to ledge 3 times before it won't stick and you can tether wall jump 3 times as well. 6 times total for recovering before touching the ground but only 3 for each
as the title says "hidden ability" i was expecting ryu and ken to have their "secret" inputs shown like ryu's shakunetsu hadoken for instance also isn't sora the only character that has a set time to chain his upB and sideB before going into free fall? i'm not sure about it tho
Ike is the same If you hit someone with side B you have a very small window to up B or else you go into helpless fall Ike has one of the few recoveries that you can gimp just by getting hit by it
Something about Banjo & Kazooie: you can actually catch B&K out of a Wonder Wing using a grab, and yes, this applies to several grab moves including Incineroar’s Side-B. And speaking of Incineroar, something else interesting about his Revenge move’s mechanics is you can actually stack multiple instances of Revenge which further boosts the amount of damage you deal with any other move.
One of mewtwos mechanics is that if you input a special right after his double jump, It cancels all of his upward momentum, allowing for insane mixups and ledge options
As a Mega Man main, I think he does have another abilities aside from the Mega Buster shots (and yes i got the Lemons joke) for examples going by your method, his Side Smash gets bigger and gets more distance when fully charged, and his Rush Coil can be used again to reach more distance, apart from using it again which gives him like 3 or 4 jumps IDR Also, Young Link isn't the only one with the Shield thing; normal Link, Toon Link and i think Hero cuz i read it from someone below, the four have that ability
You forgot the fact that Lucas can use his snake to recover on edges. To go even further, he can only use it 3 times before touching land. If he used it 3 times and has not touched land since, on the 4th time he will slip and not be able to use it again
Zelda's hidden mechanic is that she can conditionally cancel the animation of her teleport if she uses it to teleport directly onto a ledge with almost pixel perfect precision. The implications being, with the right setup, she can instantly cast and string together 2-4 teleports back-to-back, or teleport directly into aerials of a ledge to ledgeguard and safely recover. This is almost impossible to do consistently on Wi-Fi because of the precise positioning and timing, but on local, it can be done consistently with tons of practice and knowledge of setups.
I think a better secret ability with ness, while very hard to execute, is his psi-magnet multimag infinite, essentially fox and falcos waveshine from melee.
R.O.B.'s gyro isn't really a "hidden ability". It's pretty obvious what it does. Better examples would've been the blinking light on R.O.B.'s head indicating how charged his laser is and how the lights on the side of his chassis change colour and deplete as he uses his up-special.
Some have two, jigglypuff has another where she deals .95 damage with explosives like items. She is the only character that can do this and it’s really funny
This video should've been made about the new fighters added to smash ultimate. Every mechanic that you talked about, when talking about a returning character, are not hidden, and has been in the series for a long time.
Something you forgot about kirby (im pretty sure) Kirby's inhaled moves are VERY slightly stronger than their original counterparts. I believe its like 1.2x stronger?

Wisdom spoken from experience is valuable wisdom indeed
Spamming the box taunt in a way where you you throw it off the ledge will annoy anyone who is trying to recover. I’m a Snake main, I know this from experience. Also it’s hilarious.
It also spikes, but he says luigis is the only spiking taunt
Here's another one
Kirby Swallowing an opponent does indeed injure anybody who is touching him. I once killed someone this way!
Same with Isabelle and Villager.
I think it’s that he also can reflect projectiles with the right timing with his side B
@@DillpickleBeLike that's not a special ability though, he just has a reflector
The way you worded Daisy's "hidden ability" implied that Bomb and Mr. Saturns were unique pulls for her. I assure you peach does this too
Also, like, Pichu may hurt himself, but he has I frames on a lot of moves Pikachu doesn't
1:00
The only differences between peach and daisy are daisy's side smash is always club and her hit box is smaller as a joke to have the princess be opposite heights of their respective mario brother
@@mutrad5 Daisy can do all three versions of f-smash. Not just the club.
@@mutrad5 Also, daisy is actually wider in her idle animation than peach since she stands with her palms pointed out
Calling some of these a "hidden mechanic" is generous.

Is this true?
I’ll take your word for it
Wouldn't this depend on the speed and length on an initial dash? Because I know ZSS has the fastest initial dash in the game.
idk about the rest of the cast but it is slightly better than Samus's
though the trade off is that I think Samus's roll is technically better since Dark Samus just kinda shifts around into place instead of doing the morph ball roll
Dark Samus's up smash hits lower than Samus's. It can land up smash on a larger portion of the cast. In addition, Side B comes out slightly lower, potentially hitting smaller characters better.

Or if Mewtwo uses disable on her
If her shield breaks below a chain of portals on a custom stage, she can also get enough air time to eventually lose momentum and start falling. It doesn't go up forever, just longer than any normal stage has room for.
It's unfortunate that it's not easy to make that happen in a regular match, you pretty much need to setup for it. Most won't ever see this if they're playing competitive since stages with ceilings are banned. - .-)"

An interesting thing about Mewtwo is that using any of their specials during their double jump completely stops its momentum
I think same thing happens to every one with a delayed double jump (Ness, Lucas, Kazuya, Sora)
All mewtwo's B specials stop his aerial moment as long as he is in the air, double jump is not required, however he can as Dane mentioned above, also stall his double jump with any of his aerial A attacks.

Mewtwo, Yoshi, and Ness used to also be able to cancel their double jumps with aerials in Melee too not just specials

@@Kragglover2003 sure. in terms of character specific buffs, hero wins, Wii fit probably wins, hell maybe even shulk wins. Upper body invincibility too,an actual hidden mechanic.
Yeah that comes straight from early SNK games which had spot dodging
For Wii Fit Trainer, the real hidden mechanic is in their down special. It increases their damage and launch power, walk and dash speeds, air and fall speeds, and while it does heal 2% of her damage, it also reduces how much damage Wii Fit takes by ~10%. It’s literally a temporary upgrade button. Wii Fit Mainers United

Remember to stretch those legs
7:43
One thing that is important to note:
Unlike the other passive shields, Young Link's Kokiri Shield won't block projectiles with the "fire" property. So any projectiles that set you on fire can't be blocked by it, this also applies to explosions (as long as they set on fire).
“Hidden mechanics”
“Kirby can eat people, Pichu takes damage”
Sora scrolls through magic when he uses it
Wolfs Down smash is good
"inkling needs ink to use her moves"
**Not a crticism exactly, but just gonna list a bunch of omissions I thought would have been here.**
Yoshi is unable to be shield poked.
Ness/Lucas insane airdodge
G&W animation ambiguity and safesty upB out of shield.
Pits having the least consistent multihit in the game
Croy having the best jab in the game
Diddy is the only tripping move that isn't luck based
Sonic has the fastest run speed
Ridley has the safest ledge hang in the game
ROB fuel essentially gives him 8 jumps. He also turns around during his double jump briefly which can be used.
Little Mac having super armor smash attacks + basically unusable aerials + uniquely bad air dodge
Samus has the longest tether, and i think ledge roll
Greninja side b is the only move that can be done while shielding
Minato Arts makes way more sense for shulk than back slash. Shield Mode in particular gives shulk unique properties. I think minato switch is the only move that can be done in hitstun.
shoto command inputs
Ridley is using down special
Piranha plant can be spiked when extending himself.
Hero hidden situational probability skewing
steve has many many many mechanics
Pyra side b is the only move to take away your ability to attack while still letting you be mobile
Kazuya rage, unique jump squat, varient tough guy
luigi designed for 0-death grabs,misfire
Sephiroth wall stall
palu has the only reflect+counter except for arsene

I enjoyed the video, but just wish you had treated it as "every mechanic in smash characters" rather than "every characters mechanic" because every character doesn't have mechanics, and others have a lot.
completely agreed. also palu can tp cancel and thats cool
Some more to add:
Ness/Lucas can reflect projectiles with their F-Smashes
Corrin can also wall stall with S-Special
Wario can ride another Wario's bike
K Rool is the only character who has a unique shield break stun in midair
Min Min is the only character that can use Smash attacks in midair
Terry the only character with a back special
Steve can alter his hurtbox by moving the control stick up and down by moving his head (except when you end up crouching, but he can move his head while crouching too.)
Steve’s down tilt is the only downtilt that is a projectile, though i might be wrong on that.
King K. Rool also has a reflect+counter
Kazuya can trip guaranteed not just Diddy
Depending on the ice climber skin you use, you either control popo or nana
Also if you point blank final smash with mii swordsman, and your opponent tries to move towards you, you can do upwards of 120% in a matter of seconds
Nice work on the video, but sweet lord you missed a few things.
Here are a couple "mechanics" you probably should have mentioned:
- Link: Sword beam is a unique mechanic, yes, but Link also has the highest difference between his normal and fastfall speeds of any character in the game.
- Jigglypuff has like ten other gimmicks you should have mentioned lmao
- Ice climbers are immune to slipping on ice.
- Rosalina can utilize attack cancelling very well (not really a unique mechanic, but you put Fox's fall speed on the list, soooo...)
- Little Mac is one of the major causes of gamer depression
- Greninja has a tech called hydro pump cancelling.
Also, their dash animation is... you know.
- You can wiggle Isabelle's fishing rod. it's super cute and i love it
- Joker has a TON of ridiculous movement tech with his neutral B. I hate it.
- Banjo and Kazooie can turnaround cancel neutral B to pull of some amazing combos.
- Terry has special cancelling also... Why is this not mentioned.
- Min Min's up smash can reflect... Because that's balanced.
- Steve has quite possibly the most hidden tech in the entire game lmao I won't blame you for not including all of it
- Sora has double jump cancelling, but in a different way than all other characters, because he can do it with his aerials too.
- Sakurai has a unique passive defense ability which allows him to be completely immune to sensible external opinions of his design choices. This allows Sakurai to give minimal fucks when faced with questions like "Why does Rob have that down tilt? Why is Sonic like this?" or "Why does Young Link have better frame data than some rushdown characters?"
i love this whole comment, you gave way more informations and it was fun to read 😂

How does captain falcon have the worst dash animation?
@@pine_float1170 his dash dance doesn't exist essentially, you're forced to pivot every time you turn around with him. “Hidden” is used super loosely here. Dk cargo throw is just the dudes moveset. Mario side b is just a straight up listed attack. Dont get me wrong there sre some good ones here like pancaking or docs kicks but so many are just a move.
Yeah like Wolfs down smash being good
Hidden ability just means unique.
Interesting mechanic about Corrin is that they have the fastest "Shield Dash". I forget what the physical property is that causes this but its handy at dealing with zoners slightly better.
„Hero‘s mechanic is his smash attack“ Gee, you could have listed their multiple mechanics like the villager and Isabelle‘s pocket
I can never hit neutral B with no lag I don't mash fast enough
Samus's unique ability would be having the longest rolls in the game. Mii gunner, mii swordfighter and prob some others have variable side b's
Ivysaur's would be having the longest tether. The tether is so long that in mega smash, you fall into the blastzone for trying to recover with it.
Some missed things:
-If you miss with Joker’s final smash, you can smash the joystick to turn around for another hit.

He has a Passive shield like Link
He has a MP bar which like Robin is ammo for his Specials
He has a forward Tilt in which uses his shield ln which like Plautena has invincibilty frames.
And lastly the Crits.
And that he has 21 down specials, one of which is completely RNG.

Captain falcon also has the only initial dash in the game that moves him backwards
The fact that for shulk you didn't mention monado arts is hilarious
falco actually does an extra little hop at the end of his back roll, which isn’t invincible but it does make him go a little farther.
Simon and Richter are the only characters who can angle their aerials. Forward air and back air
Thier side b is not a full on refector it is actually a deflector
Kirby has the ability to duck under the majority of moves and grabs in the game. He smooshes himself into a pancake.
With Sephiroth, his little hidden ability is he can stick his sword on the side of the stage or wall which isn't explained in the move list. Also I think that Sora's unique mechanic is that the fact he can do his three hit combo from neutral. Lastly, Kazuya is the only fighter whose taunt is a freaking combo lol.
you repeating the snake part made me feel like i was having a stroke
I cant believe you didnt mention that robin can pick up his tomes/sword and throw them. They fly really fast, are hard to see, and send people flying. I used to main robin and I would purposely spend a tome just to get them to throw.
Hey, could you tell me how to do that? I try to get better with Robin but don't know how to do this :)
I would like to include that Lucas's upsmash have hyperarmor but you have to time it. It's very satisfying to see the hyperarmor
The way you phrase so many of these just omits the fact that other characters share similar traits. This idea would have been better if you organized the list by the mechanic and not the character. And characters with multiple mechanics, you would only really mention one
^^^ lucas and ness were heavily underepresenter here. djc fire and magnet for ness was omitted . djcz and upsmash for lucas
Another detail about Dedede: his inhale has no upper limit on how strong of a projectile it can reflect. That means that if a projectile (like a Gordo) is being reflected back and forth, the other character’s reflect will break first
To compensate it's slow as fuck
Fun fact: Ness and Lucas both have the farthest traveling airdodges in the game. This is something you could've said for one of them.
Ivysaur up smash is not the strongest in any way. Captain Falcon's kills a bit earlier and deals a lot more damage if you hit both sweet spots. Lucas' u-smash also kills earlier and deals more damage
^^^
I was hoping you would mention Pit's ability to have their arrows controlled after shooting and Dark Pit was the Down-B, but I guess that also works.
1:00
Or like Young Link's shield, implying that the other links can't do the same.
literally who cares
Not that deep
An interesting mechanic with K. Rool besides his belly armor is his ability to turn around mid successful counter, potentially allowing for an early kill if the opponent tries to edge guard and if their hurtbox reaches behind K. Rool
Byleth's real hidden mechanics are that when you hit opponents with up special it is untechable past 50% and their tether can only grab ledge 3 times, after which it fails.
it’s 6
@@nassoltd you can tether to ledge 3 times before it won't stick and you can tether wall jump 3 times as well. 6 times total for recovering before touching the ground but only 3 for each
1:40 can we just appreciate how clean that spike was?
as the title says "hidden ability" i was expecting ryu and ken to have their "secret" inputs shown like ryu's shakunetsu hadoken for instance
also isn't sora the only character that has a set time to chain his upB and sideB before going into free fall? i'm not sure about it tho
Ike is the same
If you hit someone with side B you have a very small window to up B or else you go into helpless fall
Ike has one of the few recoveries that you can gimp just by getting hit by it
I think ryu’s should be that his down throw instantly breaks shield. Of course this only works with 3 or more players.
And his up throw can hit anyone too close as his foot comes back down
Something about Banjo & Kazooie: you can actually catch B&K out of a Wonder Wing using a grab, and yes, this applies to several grab moves including Incineroar’s Side-B.
And speaking of Incineroar, something else interesting about his Revenge move’s mechanics is you can actually stack multiple instances of Revenge which further boosts the amount of damage you deal with any other move.
"Mario is the only character with a zero knockback move"
Fox:
Doc:
Any buff, sleeping, poisonous and trampling move as well.
Sora’s also got a unique hidden ability to be able to up special and side special if you do the input quick enough
Wolf also has a very specific Spike Box on his Side Special that is pretty hard to hit, but does pretty good damage
It’s actually true into down throw on certain characters at certain percents
Tip about Ike. Past max charge, eruption(neutral B) gains super armor. Really useful for ledge guarding.
It gets a little weaker tho, same for DK
It also hits ever so slightly behind him so with good spacing you can cover pretty much every ledge option
@@KaitouKaiju and slightly below
One of mewtwos mechanics is that if you input a special right after his double jump, It cancels all of his upward momentum, allowing for insane mixups and ledge options
Ness can do a second up B right after hitting the stage, even from below
Dedede's gordo re-grab is not from being in endlag, but from pressing an attack button just before a reflected gordo connects with him.
The toon link part was cool to hear! I’m a tink main and always use the bombs to hide myself but never seen it mentioned in videos before!
When you talked about byleth, you forgot to mention that his/her up b only spikes when the opponent is above 50% damage
An extra secret for falco is he has the farthest roll because he glides after the roll when rolling backwards
For Link, there’s also the fact that the beam makes his f-smash do really, really good damage, both shield and percent-wise
17:00 correction corrin can do that as well by going through the platform and quickly performing a down ariel she can go back up through the platform
Fairly informative video, lowkey hate how you don’t show the crossover mechanics to the very many echo characters
As a Mega Man main, I think he does have another abilities aside from the Mega Buster shots (and yes i got the Lemons joke)
for examples going by your method, his Side Smash gets bigger and gets more distance when fully charged, and his Rush Coil can be used again to reach more distance, apart from using it again which gives him like 3 or 4 jumps IDR
Also, Young Link isn't the only one with the Shield thing; normal Link, Toon Link and i think Hero cuz i read it from someone below, the four have that ability
You forgot the fact that Lucas can use his snake to recover on edges. To go even further, he can only use it 3 times before touching land.
If he used it 3 times and has not touched land since, on the 4th time he will slip and not be able to use it again
how in the everloving bruh is arsene hidden like im obtaining a brain gorp as we speak
💀
Robins actual hidden mechanic is that you can pick up expended items like the levin sword or tomes, and use them in combos
I think Samus’ hidden ability is the use of neutral B to recover
Meta Knight can too
Zelda's hidden mechanic is that she can conditionally cancel the animation of her teleport if she uses it to teleport directly onto a ledge with almost pixel perfect precision.
I was expecting you to talk about R.O.B.'s fuel ressource for his up B. Interesting video!
Link's sword beam is extremely useful for hitting his remote bombs
I think a better secret ability with ness, while very hard to execute, is his psi-magnet multimag infinite, essentially fox and falcos waveshine from melee.
“Mega man is the only character who can jab while walking”
**Steve:**
R.O.B.'s gyro isn't really a "hidden ability". It's pretty obvious what it does.
Better examples would've been the blinking light on R.O.B.'s head indicating how charged his laser is and how the lights on the side of his chassis change colour and deplete as he uses his up-special.
Darl Samus's actual unique ability is that they float slightly off the ground, letting the avoind some low moves
(Shulk Main) You can also add that when Shulk is in multi hits he can switch 2 shield monado to mitigate the knockback received
The fact that you didn’t talk about ZZS’s kick out of flip jump... gave me ulcers
Some have two, jigglypuff has another where she deals .95 damage with explosives like items. She is the only character that can do this and it’s really funny
Kirby's unique ability is that their taunt has a unique interaction: taunting removes a copy ability
This video should've been made about the new fighters added to smash ultimate. Every mechanic that you talked about, when talking about a returning character, are not hidden, and has been in the series for a long time.
Chrom and his echo fighter Roy are the only characters that can kill at 0 from the middle of the stage.
Hero: am I a joke to you?
Something you forgot about kirby (im pretty sure)
Kirby's inhaled moves are VERY slightly stronger than their original counterparts. I believe its like 1.2x stronger?
Yep! I was gonna comment this. Also the standard fact that he's the only character that can taunt in online smash. It's all us Kirby mains got going for us.
@@Senior_Bearto we gotta have something, after all lol
I love how hidden mechanic just became character ability
19:46 With Incineroar’s revenge move, you can actually get past this.
Little known fact Falco also has some of the best horizontal combos in the game
