i'm really enjoying this "vs 2024" series. I'd like to see how some of the tech tree ships hold up. Like the North Carolina, Petro, Montana, etc. Especially ships that you covered a long time ago that you considered good (like NorCal) to see if that opinion has changed.
Yeah this is the exact thought I had when watching him shoot at the water line. I honestly go for mid/high belt even in higher caliber battleships cause I'm so tired of half the shells landing short when I do otherwise.
100%. If you aim for upper belts on BBs with the Schmeckle, you'll get like ~20k damage salvos on them consistently. Not citadels necessarily, but consistent big salvos that you can pepper between all the fires you're setting. You only aim waterline for Cruisers, which you will absolutely smash with the 305s. The nice thing about the lower calibre too is that light cruisers like Jinan or Smolensk won't troll armour you, they'll just die. Mecklenburg is absolutely amazing at smashing DDs and Cruisers, which is honestly a lot more important than cits on BBs imo. Potato also kept shooting AP at stuff line the nose-in Burger, which is when he should've switched to HE and aimed for superstruture to set a million fires. Meckle has basically Conq/Vincent levels of fire setting ability. Mecklenburg is one of the most consistent BBs in the game, which makes her legitimately one of the strongest BBs in the game if you play to her strengths. That does make Gun Feeder mandatory to accomplish that, and Secondaries are a waste to build into :P
I played Meck alot of times in Assym. Learned too that aiming for the upper belt is the way to go when dealing with BB's. I choose 15-20k salvo every 23 sec instead of trying to get cits.
I just can't unsee this, but in almost every game you're aiming for BBs' belt armour no matter the range as if you're a Slava. Outside 10km, RNG generally says no unless the ship you're shooting is known for having a weak armour profile. Also, on some ships the main belt counts as torpedo protection so that is again BB-thickness belt armour you're shattering against.
Michelangelo has the biggest space armor I have ever seen so it was actually amazing that you even got a citadel from that salvo. I have seen Vermont getting no citadel from a broadside Michelangelo at similar ranges.
Michelangelo has a pretty troll citadel, so it was more about the armor profile than dispersion. Especially with lower caliber guns or bb's with short fuse you're unlikely to get many citadels even in good scenarios like in this vid.
I have played the mecklenburg quite a lot and has done quite well with her, I average about 150k damage and 60 percent win rate on 140 games played, and most of them are solo games. Mecklenburg is one of my most consistent bb and I think that that is her biggest strength. I would say that her he is actually very strong, due to the cruiser dispersion and German quarter pen, it does consistent damage against bbs even from 20 km away despite the lower alpha damage, with alright fire chance. I would say she’s even more consistent than the British bbs at he spam when it comes to long range engagement. Her playstyle would be sitting back and spamming he at battleships in the early game, since she’s a lv 9 hull and would die very quickly if focused. But when it comes to late game she’s very impactful since she has secondary and torps for close range engagement and the German sloped armour allowing her to play more aggressive when needed. I’d say it is my favourite steel ship by far.
I like her a lot, she is just very consistent. I probably overuse AP, but I do fairly well, I mostly see her as a pure dmg dealer and that is how I play her, mostly on the flanks or in the mid spamming ap at everything broadside or with a large superstructure, mostly long range, but as the game progresses I go closer and am more aggresive. I'd say PQ does a bad job at aiming, because a lot of time he could be doing 15-20k, but does like 5k because he shoots at the more armored parts.
Russian Railguns are more exception than the rule, they have more penetration than some battleship caliber guns. most BB's at this tier have enough armor to shatter 15-16" shell at 16-18km, let alone 12" with nearly half the penetration, aiming for citadels against tier 10 BB's past 10km is no go
2 things 1. A petro can citadel an Ohio at 18km so for sure it can cit a Montana at 12km 2. Don't go for cits in the meck, aim for upperbelt/ superstructure it doesnt have pen to cit most BBs so going for full pens works out much better
You were getting too greedy going for citadels on that Monty. The trick with consistent damage against BBs in Mecklenburg is to aim for the upper belt. You do significant chunk damage per shell, which combined with the accuracy and shell volume means very very bad things for your opponent. 15-25k per salvo isn't hard to get at all, even at range. Had one game where I met a Yamato coming around an island and got eight cits and another four pens to send him to port in one salvo. The shells aren't bad, per se, just need to learn how to use them.
@@xxxthwagdrakexxx4672 perhaps not, but you don't get 3/9 hits with two torpedo belt hits plus an overpen either. You also don't overpen small cruisers like Smolensk. Mecklenburg isn't a 'swing for the fences' BB, but something that just does consistent damage when it hits, which is a LOT, given its insane accuracy.
@@xxxthwagdrakexxx4672 15 to 25k every ~20 seconds while they are on like 2 or 3 permafires is quite a lot of damage quite quickly. Mecklenburg is probably one of the easiest BBs to farm damage in.
@@xxxthwagdrakexxx4672 Monty has substantially less fire setting capabilities, and not nearly the same shell consistency that Mecklenburg has. Mecklenburg currently has the highest AP DPM of any T10 BB currently in the game. She consistently vomits out damage, while having torps, turtleback, speed, AA, decent secondaries, etc. She doesn't have the alpha threat against BBs that a Monty has, certainly, but she's a much bigger threat to DDs and Cruisers than a Monty is, which are far more impactful ships to deal with than BBs.
Have to admit. I have about 15,000 games and can only remember losing a turret once in my early days. I really thought that I was no longer a possibility.
Such a good series with so many recent patches, not to mention subs going full time. I just passed on this ship and with the Stali instead. Not in love with either, Stali is old and would hate to miss out because it gets pulled.
Michelangelo video next? Been playing it a bunch this week since unlocking it and its gotta be a new favourite, so weird but so fun, consistent 10k damage salvoes into anything just about, secondaries that go out to 10.5km and hammer destroyers, fuel smoke to rush in close and torpedoes, soo good
I love my Meck. 3 out of 5 games I always get more then 130k damage points, one game below 70k, when I simply can´t get along with the map and occasionally one total loss. As soon as I will constantly get over 130 main hits, I will start using Lütjens on her too.
It might not cittadel T10 BBs but it makes up for dev striking Minotaur and Smolensk, because these guns don't overpen low armor cruisers like all other BBs do.
Your issues with the 305's are your OWN issues due to the fact that despite knowing that they are 305's your expecting and play with them as if you are playing with higher caliber guns. As for that copium towards the Michelangelo salvo, that ship have a VERY troll citadel, so troll that I can go and say it's more troll then the HENRI's cit. 305's vs BBs, ALWAYS aim for the upper belt. As for the HE, the alpha may be "low" but the PEN and the fire chance with so many shells per salvo is disgusting to say the least. The AA is very strong too, t8 cvs tend to avoid Mecklens like it's the plague and some t10 CVs think at least twice before committing to you. You are right about the firing angles thou... Big weakness for sure as your "armor" tends to eat a sh*t metric ton of PEN dmg that your heal can't compensate. As for the torps, they are OK but only IF they are NOT destroyed by the 1st HE shell that lands near them...
I think my biggest problem with the Mecklenburg is after playing the Agir I expected a lot more damage output. I'm probably wrong but I was under the impression that the Mecklenburg had the same guns as the Agir. Despite having Way less guns. I consistently do more damage with it on broadsides And while having very high hopes for the Mecklenburg, I was quite disappointed
Have had nice games in Meck. Averaging under 100k damage so I'll try aiming a bit higher. Best game to date is 317k damage and 6 kills. Gotta love having 16 guns.

I just got this ship today. I have 10 to 15 games in and I just hate it. Sooo many overpens against cruisers, shatters and bounces on BBs.
