@@milquetoastmusic Sandinista suffers from too much filler, having said that, it's not only my favourite Clash album but my favourite all time album. But I can't help but ponder that if someone in the Clash camp had taken the bull by the horns in 1980 and trimmed the thing down to 4 sides and 24 stand out tracks, it would have attained and surpassed the masterpiece status afforded London Calling!

It kind of feels like they just wanted to one up themselves after London Calling being a double album for the price of one so they stuck in a bunch of random demos/b-sides to make it a triple album. That being said I do love a majority of the songs on Sandinista but it’s just harder to listen through start to finish compared to their other albums

It doesn't matter to me if I can understand the lyrics as what's important is how it resonates with my spirit. A band I have been enjoying is Orange Blossom 'Habibi' they've been around for a while. Check it out.

Me and one album on an island alone... definitely Sandinista. Many cultures and musical backgrounds . All in 3. I never ever get tired of listening to that album. Even after 29 years of listening it still amazes me. The punks did not like it when it came out ( not rough enough certainly). But it's a masterpiece...and l mean the whole album 💥💯

The singer is Tymon Dogg who is a man. He played with Joe in the 101ers back in 1975 and 1976 right before the Clash formed. He also played with Joe the last few years that Joe was alive in the Mescaleros

Looked on the net but there are no mention of any bagpipe player where the personnel is listed for that song. Around that time there was a band called Big Country who had a hit with a similar bagpipe sound, I looked at the personnel for that song and there are no bagpipe players listed as well. Could it be that in the end it's just guitars with effects we are hearing ? Just an hypothesis. Cheers.

I always thought it was Ellen Foley, Mick's GF at the time. But wikipedia credits vocals to Tymon Dogg who's actually playing violin....
