    I find myself reading too much into this stuff. Four of the most talented guys in the world, in their 20s, working their asses off for five years; I'm really surprised they stayed together for as long as they did. They should be credited for that.

      It sounds like a tired and overworked Paul did his bit in the studio and just packed it in for the night…possibly frustrated at the session..not that unusual in a band dynamic. Opinions..we all have a million of them.

  • @westfield90
    @westfield90 2 месяца назад +8

    Thank you for this. People fail to understand that these guys were in the studio almost everyday for hours upon hours and expected to produce an album a year and several singles which is unheard of by today’s standards. So of course there were tensions as with any family or group that is there every day for long periods. But it blows over and they continue. But because this wasn’t publicized or there wasn’t a film crew, the episodes of Ringo and George leaving took on an extra level of contention whereas the band always took that in stride. When you listen to the white album outtakes a completely different picture emerges than the one largely pushed by Geoff Emerick who was overly sensitive to arguments to a fault. The outtakes show a tight band, completely in sync musically, performing together and usually with the same sarcasm and humor. I’m sure if all the outtakes were released you’d find moments of them arguing during every single album but taken out of context they seem far larger than what the band saw them as. They continued to make songs when Ringo left knowing that it was just another argument and once things cooled down he would return.

    • @2Uahoj
      @2Uahoj 2 месяца назад +1

      Well, highly doubtful that Geoff Emerick was "overly sensitive." He simply left for a time because the mocking got too extreme. We would have done the same. The Beatles, especially one of them, could be real, not nice jerks when they were in quirky moods.

    "Paul remains tight-lipped about the incident" Peculiar statement, considering that Paul is, as far as I'm aware, the only Beatle to have publicly reported that there even *was* "an incident" - evidently caused by him disagreeing with John's rush to get the track finished late that night before they all had to leave for Germany in the morning - and in fact Paul exaggerated its significance by remembering wrongly that he hadn't played on the track. He did, the rhythm track was finished. All that happened was that he went home before the overdubs were done.

    as any serious band member can tell you, you don’t & you can’t get along with everyone all the time…The Beatles were no different plus they had all the pressure their incredible success added; I’m surprised they stayed together as long as they did; what’s often forgotten is that the true chemistry between John, Paul, George, & Ringo was as performers…not just onstage but they started out when you had to play as an ensemble in the studio…those 4 guys played and sang really well together; it’s just my humble opinion but I think advanced recording technology killed the group vibe; it took less than a decade

    Wow, that recording of John ripping on Paul is very revealing…it confirms what I have thought for many years that actually the leader of the Beatles has always Been PM..and for the sake of Beatles lore And fandom, Paul allowed the Faust narrative that John was the leader of the group, Paul let John think he was the leader…for getting along sake…. The fandom has said that History was changed when Paul met John to start the beginning of the Beatles, but actually Paul met George In.School years before he met John so the coming together of the Fab 4 started with Paul and George. And to add to that..it was Paul who sought out John. These are Facts that can’t be refuted, Now add the recording of John opening up on Paul about his songs and arrangements always taking precedence over any of the other Beatles input really confirms that. Then I will also add this to the buffet, in the early years of John and Paul’s history..Paul was actually giving John Lennon guitar lessons..with all of this info, one can only conclude that PM was actually the Man.

    It’s interesting to see the level at which people will analyze (after the fact) what was going on in peoples’ heads. I suppose it makes for interesting fantasy - and clicks, but in the end even the Beatles couldn’t equally interpret what was said or done. It was simply human reaction to discourse that produced what they produced. Analyzing at this level might be entertaining for some, but I’d much rather listen to their music.

    This makes a mountain out of a molehill. In Ian McDonald’s book, he records Paul as playing bass only while George backed John’s singing. The Beatles always did have arguments but moved on. Paul admitted to the Barney. They were a band of brothers so arguments happened. The last day of recording an album with a deadline to hit is bound to be stressful anyway.

    • @chrisr1733
      @chrisr1733 2 месяца назад +2

      Have to somewhat disagree. Paul's contributions to George's songs were excellent, John's not so much. George got to sing those 2 early songs you mentioned because John thought so little of them.
      Fuzz bass on Think For Yourself, his bass on Taxman as well as playing the lead guitar line without mention of that on the album cover (as he also did on some Pepper songs), his contribution to While My Guitar..., his work with George on the recording of I Me Mine - I could go on. George's 2 songs on Abbey Road: I hear Paul's contributions but not John's (well, he missed some sessions after his car accident). Minor matters in the big picture, they were a team, all of them.
      "More into himself?" That was ALL of them, tho Ringo not so much.
      This song is a good topic for Beatle conversation. When the album came out (in the US), I thought it was the "strangest" Beatle song ever - it seemed like the transitions were awkward but cool. Later I learned Paul had walked out of the session, which may be why it seemed, to me, unfinished at the time.
      Topic for conversation concerning Paul's musical abilities and demands: he helped get rid of Stu Sutcliff, he helped get rid of Pete Best, so I wonder that if success had taken a bit longer that George would have been next...

      Hmmm. Actually Lennon said he didn't think much of Harrison's songwriting (up to Abbey Road anyway), didn't think much of his singing, and found it a bit of a chore to find songs to keep him interested. He also was unwelcoming to the (underrated) Harrison song "I Me Mine" in Get Back. Lennon's collaboration with Martin was to leave it with him, not explain himself. and then to later in later years to dismiss his contribution, much to Martin's dismay. Martin and Emerick were both extremely appreciative of McCartney's intense involvement with the arrangement and recording process. Lennon was notoriously lazy, and at times unpleasantly volatile. Yes, McCartney's perfectionism and ego could be tiresome, but I can barely think of any song in the Beatles catalogue written by any of the group where McCartney isn't there, providing brilliant bass lines, guitar riffs, vocal harmonies, keyboard parts. Listen to say "Come Together" - a Lennon song for example. He was the one who steered the tempo. He made the keyboard part. It's got possibly one of the most important bass parts of any song. in history. His vocal harmonies are extraordinary. How is that "being into himself"? He was the one who CARED.

      You are right, of course. And you are wrong, of course. I mean, you're here, and other people are here. About one song written in 1966. I mean, it doesn't make sense, but people still care. Because that song makes people feel. Because it gives pleasure. Because people love that sense of "wow- this song feels significant, and I can't get that anywhere else". I really wish I COULD get that feeling somewhere else, and you could say that's what a lot of people have sought, culturally, since the 1960s. Of course it was (in a sense), a revolutionary period. Things changed, things were happening for the first time. They could never happen for the first tune again, and so the stuff in the 1990s say - like Nirvana - you can see that there is talent, and desire - but it feels a bit retread. And isn't it kind of great that four guys from a decaying Northern English port town are known in Viet Nam and Rio and Tokyo and Los Angeles 60 years later, and nobody seems to be able to shoo them off the stage, because what they do still feels modern? Sixty years ago they made "I Feel Fine". Sixty years before THAT Puccini's Madame Butterfly was premiering.

He wanted everything his way, whereas Lennon was quoted saying he didn't mind what the others played in his songs as long as it was professional. I remember a scene from Get Back where they were rehearsing Don't Let Me Down and when the bridge comes in and Lennon sings "I'm in love for the first time.." the other two add a very cheese "for the first time in my life.." and Lennon just lets them do it, at the hope it would evolve into something better, which obviously didn't happen.

      @@Lennonlover06 Lennon wasn’t happy with the production on a few of his songs. The other song that could have been a lot better is Across the Universe-so thought John as well.

      @@HEADLINEZOO Lennon could hear what he could hear in his head - he's a genius. he has the right to complain about the production. John was of the opinion that ALL the Beatles recordings should have been rerecorded. that's his perogative too - to hold that opinion. however it does not follow that they are subpar - only that their author is disatisfied with them.
      in the case of across the universe, there is more than one released recording. the 1968 world wildlife album version is (possibly) inferior to the 1970 let it be version. but neither is subpar. it was state of the art for the time - indeed, ahead of it's time.
