    I recently found a stereo second state Butcher album in the shrink wrap at a record store here in Arizona for 10 bucks. They’re still out there! It’s the second one I’ve found in the wild, I found a nice mono copy about 10 years ago at a used bookstore for 4 bucks.

    My collection is probebly worthless, but has sentimental value as the singles were collected by my mum as they were released. And she bought me some albums for birthdays and christmas growing up. I've continued to collect them ever since. But only for listening pleasure. :)

Of this, I am positive.

    How interesting the very first Beatles record is a "McCartney-Harrison" release. I've read that Paul wrote the song and George contributed the solo yet Paul shared songwriting credit, pretty cool that he did that. Thank you Andrew for yet another meticulously researched entertaining video! You are a boon to serious Beatles fans everywhere.

My sister wrote "I (HEART) Paul" on the cover of all our original Capitol albums, just like millions of other girls in the U.S. Still, I treasure them, and even the first Apple re-releases, which I bought when they were first issued, seeing as the Capitols had been played to death! It's still fun playing the old, scratched ones -- brings back the joy of first loving The Fab Four's music!

      Not only do I agree... Hey EMI, how about an RSD release on 7" 45rpm and 10" 78rpm...? You did an awesome RSD 78 of The Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations". Oh c'mon, Please Please (Me lol), with sugar on top...?
      #recordstoreday (hey I hear this hashtag thingie works)
      EDIT: Nowadays there are far more options and advances in digital restoration of the recording itself than there was in 1994/5 when it was done for the Anthology 1 set. Each lacquer (or misnomered "acetate") can be a different restoration animal of its own. If I could work on a new transfer of that disc, cleaned and played properly with an archival 78 stylus (matched to groove size), I'd make it a year long project to remove all scratches 'manually' (sometimes visually reconstructing the soundwave) for best quality, send its remaining surface noise to the basement where it belongs, and retune its frequencies so you could hear more of what that HMV mic picked up in that room.

    Fascinating video once again, Andrew. I doubted very much anything I own would be on the list, but it was interesting to see what was there. Perhaps the biggest revelation I had about rare Beatles discs was how *not* rare original mono pressings are. I learned this from your videos a few years ago, and, as you pointed out, while you'd think they would be rare, of course they wouldn't be since so many were pressed and purchased. It's always the one-off (like your #1 pick) or the limited run pressings that are highly sought.

    I would like to request a topic- Could you do a comparison of The Beatles and The Monkees? The Monkees were, of course, created to capitalize on The Beatles, but, it turned out GREAT, somehow. I'd like to see you explore the similarities in both the music, and the visual presentation. It sounds like a fun topic ( to me, anyway).

    I had the rare honor (for someone my age) of listening to REVOLVER for the first time in my life on an original UK pressing from 1966. Being a mere 14 year old brazilian boy with little to no allowance, I then took an old cassete tape from some kids material my sisters didn’t care about anymore and made a copy of that vinyl and listened to it for months on end, until on Christmas that year I was given an original REVOLVER cassete tape from those late 80s reissues. Some purists would say I made a poor choice, for those hisses, wheezes and that stuffy sound are supposed to be part of the experience of listening to a psychedelic album, particularly one from the greatest band ever

      Certainly one of my favorites back in the 60's and 70's. Played a unique blend--after their initial release of bluesy material called "This Was"--of what I would describe as "Renaissance rock/jazz", with an impressive string of ever-evolving records to their credit ("Stand UP", "Benefit", etc); Got a chance to see them, too, at the Fillmore West in S.F., just as "Aqualung" was released. What a stage presence was Ian Anderson--you had to see him to get the full effect! Great band, even with personnel changes. Got lots and lots of air play over the years, practically all of it their own, original music (except for an "only they could do this" version of Bach's of "Bouree"). And you know what? They are, incredibly, shamefully, NOT, in the R&R Hall of Fame, despite their legacy as an original and influential musical group! Instead, we must hold our noses as the Bangles, the Go-Go's, and all that other moronic "talent" out there, have been "enshrined"; What B.S.! Ah well, whoever said "Life's fair"?

      @@h.gordonkemnitz7736 thanks for the reply. I saw them live a few weeks after this comment. My town was in their tour and managed to get tickets on time. It was definitely a once in a lifetime experience. But to be honest, a little disappointing at the same time, regarding Ian's singing. Yeah, I know he's old etc but, I was stupidly expecting more. Most likely, because I tried to catch up with as more of their discography as possible before the live, and most of what I listened to was prior mid 1980s.

    My own rarest Beatle album is the Mono Box, given that most of my individual album copies are not remotely rare or even the best issues.
    The rarest Beatle album I've seen is a copy of the Butcher cover with the replacement cover on the BACK side of the album. It looked like it had been sitting in a flooded basement, and now I wonder if it could possibly be a third state where the replacement cover was removed intact enough to put it on the back cover. Got it in a 2nd hand record shop in Cork, Ireland.....God knows how it got there. Another great video Andrew. The most valuable Beatles record I have is a first pressing of Revolver in mono with the different take of Tomorrow Never Knows. Bought it years ago more than likely at a car boot sale, garden fete or a charity shop for about a couple of pounds. Unknown to me what the value was until I watched your video from the other month. Happy days!
    Perhaps a question for your next video is How can you tell that you have a contract copy of a single. Pye, Decca etc. They all of course have Parlophone on the label. Take care of yourself

    • @ronmartin4212
      @ronmartin4212 2 года назад +1

      Hey,the 45's were pressed inhouse(Hayes Factory)as the primary issues from Love Me Do and Please Please Me(red label),then the blacks from From Me To You thru Lady Madonna.Exceptions are Can't Buy Me Love(Decca/Oriole farm out, which was the exclusive factory contractor for it),Help(Pye label, and font to match, primary contractor)Phillips did the Apple singles exclusively. They did the primary lp pressings from Beatles For Sale,on thru the Apple titles
      PPM and With The Beatles were inhouse Hayes pressings primarily.Pye initially was the contractor for HDN,then Phillips took over subsequent pressings of this, and onward with BFS on.

      Not sure if you're aware of a brilliant RUclips channel called "Techmoan' (he deals with outmoded sound technologies). A current electronic music duo sent him an Edison cylinder of one of their new releases. Pretty cool. The music was crap, but it was great that they did it.

    While I was watching this, I won an eBay listing of the nicest white album I’ve ever seen, no EMI with three zeros (10,000s literally ten thousand and something). It’s no number 1 but when it’s within a full collection of UK 1st pressings in near mint it will be worth more than it is by itself. And of course like every other great record I’ve bought, it was in pounds not dollars!!!

    The rarest album I've bid on and lost unfortunately, is the 1971 Yesterday and Today on the US Red Target label. Only 4 copies have surfaced I believe, and I heard even less of a Red Target Revolver US. They started pressing, and immediately stopped because they were supposed to be pressed on the Apple US label instead. They were however pressed on the Red Target label in Canada identical to the US except "made in Canada" on label. I'm guessing worth around $4000 - $6000 US if you can find one.

      The US red target Y&T is considerably harder to find than Revolver. I have a copy of the latter (and all of the Canadian red target LPs, all of which are far more common than the two US LPs).

    Thanks Andrew, fascinating video! In summer of 1978 at a major record show I had an opportunity for a "near mint" first state Butcher Cover for $300 USA dollars. It was not mint due to being opened, but other than that.... I had $150 saved from lawn cutting and my ultracool Dad said he would loan me the $150...I debated looking at it and other Butcher Covers the dealer displayed for various amounts, the cheapest a few $75-100 dollar poorly peeled ones. I passed on all and bought some 60 albums in total ranging from a VG Rolling Stones collection (12 in all) with many Who/Kinks/Hendrix/Zep/Sabbath/Yes/Pink Floyd/Robin Trower/Albert King/Allman Bros/Dylan thrown in for good measure. Obviously in 1978 I was pleased as pudding with my haul but in 2022. I SMH and wonder how much that mint minus or "near mint" first state Butcher Cover would be?

      I know the feeling. Back in 2002, I had the opportunity to buy a decent mono Butcher vinyl in VG condition. The peel job was a 6/10, meaning there were places where the original glue had peeled the original cover in some areas. The store owner offered it to me for $200 and I passed because I had just been laid off from work. I wish I could go back and buy it then. 😀

    I bought 'Wonderwall' when it first came out. I was meticulous with my records, so it stayed in very good condition. Alas, it was stolen along with the rest of my record collection in the early 'Eighties. Some time in the 2000s I discovered that it was quite a rare record and was worth quite a bit. Damn.

      I bought Wonderwall with my own hard earned cash in 1969. After barely making it through side one I was complaining to 'me Mum' about wasted $$ when she offered to reseal the record with Saran Wrap and her trusty iron. 'me Dad' then took it back to the store saying something to the effect of 'He's already got this one' ... 😁

    Hi Andrew,
    I love your vids, never miss any, why exactly can't you play the Beatles tracks, when on other YT channels you can get the full albums, even bootlegs, is it because you need a certain licesence from YT?
    Keep up the great work.
    Oh! You know the butcher cover on yesterday and today, who's idea was it to use that image, was it a protest against Vietnam?

    • @NewFalconerRecords
      @NewFalconerRecords 2 года назад

      Those other YT channels are most likely putting up those videos as a kind of community service and are quite happy to put them out there with the money going to whoever owns the copyright. I myself make educational videos that I have no intention of monetizing for the same reason, and I was completely blocked by the Beatles three times by simply playing the feedback intro to 'I Feel Fine' and a very short portion of the opening guitar riff. I ended up getting around it by changing the key of the song and then using a live version for the guitar riff. The Beatles are incredibly strict when it comes to using any of their content.

    I still have my Beatlemania album that I bought in Canada in 1963, 2 months before it was released in USA as Meet the Beatles. First Beatles song I heard was in October, 1963 - She Loves You. Canadian legends tell that Beatle popularity in USA began with Americans in cities close to the border listening to Canadian radio stations. I doubt that Beatlemania is all that rare, but it is worth a lot to me.

      I bought this album when I was in college - way before the Internet existed as it does today. I had just gotten an email address then...woohoo! Anyway, I always fought the Beatlemania and Twist and Shout covers from Canada intriguing, since I live in the US. I bought them on a whim and had them until the CD craze started in 87-88 and sold them to a record shop for a pittance! As an adult now, I've found myself rebuying some of the same albums I sold when I was a kid.

    Thanks Andrew. Superb job as usual. The Beatles were really the best in everything they did. This might sound wierd but one of my favourite tracks of theirs is "Revolution 9". Is there any chance you could do a video about it? There's so much going on with it and with today's technology surely there's a chance one could separate the voices and get a clear indication of what's being said. Is there anyone else out there who has a deep appreciation for this piece of art as I do? Please be nice with your comments.🎸

      I think the track is hilarious and John and George's verbal stuff is entertaining, almost Monty Python like in it's weirdness, especially John's silly noises. Perhaps the running time also puts people off.

      I'm also a big fan of Revolution #9, from the first time I heard it as a kid, it reminded me a bit of the odder moments of The Goon Show, of which the Beatles were obviously huge fans. I knew a guy who would go to Beatles conventions and do a long acoustic medley of every single Beatles song ever released, which took about 90 minutes to perform, and he would always include a different part of Revolution #9 when he got to that spot on The Beatles double LP, usually just a snippet of dialogue or whatever, but he would mix it up every time he did it.
