The rationalization of the Korpisalo salary dump continues to amaze. He has had 2 good season in 8 years. Ullmark (who is only 3 months older) had a history of good numbers on bad Buffalo teams, Korpisalo has never shown anything but being the product of the players in front of him.
1 year of Leon at $8.5M is worth taking your time with the negotiation. The only way he ever leaves Edmonton, in my opinion, is if Connor signaled that he wanted out of town. Which he hasn't.....and likely won't. I mostly agree. The odds are Draisaitl stays. But listening to his answer about his contract today at the presser suggests it might be a possibility. He never actually said he wanted to stay in Edmonton when asked. He gave the "We'll see what Edmonton wants, and I'll talk to my agent, and we'll go from there" answer. That sounds like a guy who's keeping his options open.
The idea that paying mcdavid and leon at least 30 million combined when they couldn't win when making 21.1 million combined is ludicrous. They won't be able to win a cup paying 2 guys that much.
It's not so much what you pay your stars, rather the ability to have a steady stream of contributing players currently on ELCs, avoiding albatross contracts for mid-level players, and not paying for past performance rather than current and future performance. If they can jettison Nurse and Campbell without taking back bad salaries the Oilers will have plenty of room to re-sign their two stars and still build a decent supporting cast.
Odds of Leon leaving are lower the. Leafs winning the cup 😂🤣😂 Even if he says he’s going to leave he’d be the oilers rental as they’d be going for the cup no matter the cost against this year.
id buy out nurse before trading leon because you cant fit him under the budget. rather overpay for a superstar than risk losing so you can pay a middle to bottom pair dman 9.25 million
A Nurse buyout this off-season only gives you two years of relief then you are still paying him 8.7 for a year then 9.5 for three years. It be good short term but then 4 years of a huge dead cap number.
