- June Carter Cash sings a Carter Family classic "I Never Will Marry". Songwriter was A.P Carter.
Lyric:
One morning as I rambled all down the seashore
The wind it did whistle and the waters did roar
I heard a fair damsel make a pitiful sound
It sounded so lonesome in the waters around
I never will marry or be no man's wife
I expect to live single all the days of my life
The shells in the ocean shall be my deathbed
The fish in deep water swim over my head
[Instrumental break]
She plunged her fair body in the ocean so deep
She closed her blue eyes in the waters to sleep
My love's gone and left me, the one I adore
She's gone where I never will see her any more
I never will marry or be no man's wife
I expect to live single all the days of my life
The shells in the ocean shall be my deathbed
The fish in deep water swim over my head
I love June,and this song!
Why can't we just appreciate each Carter girl? They're all amazing in different ways
Anita is beautiful and her voice can not be beat. I did not know she pass away I cried she was so young. Bless her.heart I miss that. Beautiful voice love you Anita. Sally
Toll June ,Du bist eine tolle, liebevolle, starke Frau gewesen!!
Handy backing vocals. ❤️❤️
Really great! Listen to Anita. They both did justice in their separate lead recordings of this song. Just Anita's voice is so awesome.
Hi Wilma. Nice to see you and Tony on here. So pretty.
I love anitas voice
Anita, the appalachian Angel.
I think this was ok but when Linda Ronstadt sang this song with Jonny Cash (June's husband) it sounded incredible.
Sure did brilliant
I agree
Agree!!!!
No June's the best singer in the world & always will be I love June so much may her legacy always press on. & Anita wasn't the one who had a solo job on the Grand Ole Opry June was & did she background sing for her then? No was June still very popular without Anita? Yes!
Anita had more opportunities than June that came to her, June made her own. Anita rarely took advantage of those opportunities unless it was with her family. Anita had more solo performances on the Opry than June did, though June did seem to appear solo more on the tv recorded version of the show.
Anita never seemed to want solo fame, she never went out of her way to seek it.
There's no reason to compare the two
I love this song
❤❤❤
I like it a lot.
After listening to every recording that is available of the early years of "The Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle" and reading what June said about singing with her sisters and Mom. June said both Helen and Anita would stay in perfect pitch and she would be the one Mom would give the famous Mother Maybelle stare when she went off pitch. Helen or Anita would immediately pick June up so to speak. June always said Anita had the most beautiful voice she ever heard and Helen sang beautiful as well. Mother Maybelle ,Helen and Anita were the famous trio and would sing almost all the hymns as they all 3 harmonized beautifully. Check my You Tube videos for more great songs by "The Girls" when they were younger.
Hi Tony, Well said. I love my tee shirts/
Toll June
june spent her whole life getting upstaged by her back ground singer
she was fine with it though
because its her sister anita
and she was the best singer in the world
Amen
Anita's voice gives me chills. I met her a few times and I regret I never made any effort to get to know her better. My loss
June was the one who liked show business the most and was a FUNNY sweetheart of a woman.
wonderful song. Pete Seeger does the best version.. He sings it as a really beautiful ballad and his intonations are spectacular.. you sway inside… and join in the chorus!
i like his version but my personal favourite is anita carter with hank snow
Jamie Wagener Me too I love the duet Anita and Hank also ,Anita Carter and Helen Carter do a version from the Appalachian Angel cd set. They recorded it late in their careers and it wasn't released until after they passed in 2004 with Anita Carters Appalachian Angel 7 cd set. It's great..
iv never actually listened to that ill give it a go
Helen and Anita`s Version came out in 1964 on Anita`s solo album ``Anita Carter of the Carter family``
Its like my theme song
A wonderful song. In German: Freddy Quinn: Allein unter Fremden
This is a very lovely performance. I’m wondering who the woman is on the back far left?
On your left is Helen Carter. On their left I think is Jan Howard.
👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🌹🌹🌹
I keep seeing all over in different comments that Anita and Johnny had a affair while June was pregnant with John Carter Cash. I hope these people are just confused. That’s just awful not trusting your own family. I doubt it’s even true.
I like the folk version better
