I am 73 years old and have been listening to jazz for 60 years and playing it for the same length of time. I never thought I would ever hear a band of this quality playing this authentic stuff again. What an amazing surprise when I came across them about 3 months ago. I've been playing their music constantly every day since then. Brilliant. Please keep them coming and I hope they go on and on and on for many years just to keep old buffers like me very happy.
I'm only 70, but I reckon they're something special. I find myself going to RUclips every evening and listening to Tuba Skinny. My housemaster at school in England in the mid 1960s was a music lover. Jerry Morse was a lovely guy. He used to get excited about new discoveries. I remember him introducing us to Dave Brubeck ("Take Five"), Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Tom Paxton, etc. Those were the days when we bought Heathkit pre-amps and amplifiers (you bought the components and put it together yourself).
As a big fan of Tuba Skinny, Erika and Shaye I bought all 10 discs of this band. If someone is a bigger fan and has purchased more discs of Tuba Skinny, let them come out!
Ok- so for years I played drums in a heavy rock band- but I have ( had) a secret. I love this style of music, always have, it stops me in my tracks, grabs me , makes me smile so deep inside and makes me move tap and shuffle like no other music can. This band needs to come over to the UK. Keep posting this good time music please.....
just because you are a rock music doesn't mean you have to limit yourself. I play mouth harp and love blues but I also play country, folk, americana, whatever with whomever will let me jam with them. There are a couple of genres I don't care much about but some folks like tea and some like coffee, it's all good
Thank you so much for producing this cut. We used to play this song in a little jazz band that I was in 55 years ago and it brought back tears to me. Tuba Skinny has captured the flavor and soul of a certain sound that has almost vanished. I am forwarding and telling everyone that I have done any kind of musical business with in the past and they all agree with me.
My faith in humanity is restored. I've found the music of the promised land! Such talent and devotion. Ma foi en l'humanité est rétablie. J'ai trouvé la musique de la terre promise! Un tel talent et une telle dévotion. Formidable! Ce groupe est un Time Machine.
Another evening with tears of bliss trickling down my face and a bruise on my foot. Pity the poor people in the flat below. I'm specially chuffed to find yet another seam of classic tunes with Ewen bleach as icing on the cake. The skinnys have changed my life!!!
I first stumbled across this band about three years ago and liked them a lot but even I sold them short at first. Man, they are nailing this shit. Ever bit as good as any of the jazz classics that came out of the 1920's. Great sound tech on this one...so much better than their street recordings.
There is really no doubt that this is the real deal on this excellent and fabulous band that I ever heard behind those other Jazz band that Ive' been listening to before..I like the way and style of each member of each players' of TUBA SKINNY. Ive; been mesmerized and wonder how they execute the perfect timing of each tune they played especially the very end of each tune that they all together stop to marked the finishing notes...
Wow,very talented band, I love Cajun style New Orlean Jazz....never get tired listening...my fav is "SOUTH" and " IGET THE BLUES" by Erika Lewis...fantastic band...
If you know American football then you know how great pro quarterbacks will call audibles (change the play) right before the ball is hiked. Shaye is like a great quarterback...she is always changing the order of solos, changing the beat and last second improvising...this keeps the band on their toes....this keeps all their material fresh. You think you know what's coming and all of a sudden they're playing in a different key then they had played the song last time you heard it and this time the song went 5 minutes whereas they had played a 4 minute version the time before...they are never boring, they are never corny.
I love Tuba Skinny! My only (very minor) complaint is not enough cameras. I wish they would do a 2 camera shoot plus a fixed safety shot. I hate it when I miss a short solo lol. The personality of the band is as awesome as the music. Great mic mix!
Thank you very much for theese marvelous videos of my favorite band. The sound and the camara is brilliant. When I watching these set, it is like I was there.
Not sure "out of fashion" sousaphones are Calibre 50 is a 3 piece with a sousaphone and several of there songs/videos have 3 hundred, million views each. It's working for them apparently
Starting at 1:37 , trombone solo begins, i completely loved it , wanted to know if i can some how learn it , would love to use it for one of our jazz band concerts in our school , would be lovely if i can learn the trombone player’s solo , im a trombone player myself and enjoy playing music as much as u guys :))
Learn your jazz scales, listen to a lot of other artists improvising to get stylistic ideas, then use them to improvise as this trombonist is doing. It takes some time, but the short cut of learning a solo note for note is actually a dead end. Improvisation is an expanding universe of possibilities! But it is only learned through doing. My jazz band teacher (who was my dad as it happens) made everyone on the band take turns improvising every day after teaching us blues scales. No one was exempt. We were all very bad to begin with, but the rules were simple: no laughing at anyone else, and you have to play. I got fairly proficient, as did several others in the band who worked at it. One friend got so good he helped the band win the top overall prize at the largest jazz band competition in the western US. And we were from a small school in a small town. I’m 2 years late responding, but I am hoping this helps you or anyone else reading this to understand there are no shortcuts, and you may be embarrassed at first, but if you love jazz you will get better rapidly and get over it, and you will never regret it. Have fun!
have these folks ever played in Canada cause i know a place that might be a good spot to come check out and play it is called the Chester Playhouse they do plays music shows movies in the summer and i for one would pay to hear their music cause i think it is an awesome sound.
I am 78 and have just found them a gift from the jazz gods
The Tuba Skinny is absolutely unique, incredible, authentic and superb. It takes your breath away.

Peter Shaw, I fully agree with you!!
YEAH ! Me too ! I could listen to them all day and night - an I,too< was onc a musician and a jazz aficionado - of all eras.
As another ol' buffer I'm with you Pete mate.....keep it going.

Must be something going on, I’m Pete, I’m 73 and I love them too, especially Erika...voice and all. What a talented bunch.
This is one of the best american jazz groups which perform traditional hot music; I'm 83 and listen to the music because it keeps me rejuvenated!
I made the trip from Liège (Belgium) to New Orleans last year, just to see and listen them; je les adore !
Their quality of playing live is amazing.
My kind of Jazz. Love from Inverness, Scotland

Classic jazz brought back to life .....fabulous!
Betcha Satchmo is tapping a foot in heaven.
If it ain't Dixieland, it ain't jazz! =)

I just love this song SOUTH and it was recorded by BENNY MOTEN in 1928 by Victor records #24893

It is quite an admirable thing to communicate the joy of jazz the way they do without the least whiff of pretension - can't get enough.
In Belgium! Fantastic. Getting the world recognition they deserve...
I just ran across them 2wks ago. They really grow on you, can't stop watching.
greetings 😆2020,😆02😆the best jazzy music, made listener move side to side thanks! keep smiling with lol politely T.Skinny😉

Quelles extraordinaires fraîcheur, simplicité, justesse très affûtée dans leur jeu ! Un grand bravo à Shaye Cohn et son équipe !

So funny how she directs everybody's solo ! Great show besides great music, surely others will try to adopt this renewed style, even 20 years from now

Delightful ! I really like the bass horn ( tuba/sousaphone). I regret that it went out of fashion. That gal sure blows great trumpet ( cornet ?)

He can play a good Kid Ory style but can emulate other artists as well. Great asset to band!

Es un conjunto espectacular interpreta como el mejor. Muy bueno!!
Very nice music
Sper Shaye Forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Great Group. She conducts with the eyebrows!
You would think that the Tuba Skinny band would have a tuba. Maybe it should be called the Sousaphone Band.
I guess guitar banjo is the way to go since all of the nice old tenor banjos in the US have been converted to five strings.
Fantastische band.
But the singer,she is a poem. beautiful,she is indeed a liryc artist.In her style-jazz
😊😊😊😀😀😀😄😄😄😎😎😎😍😍😍🤗🤗🤗🤩🤩🤩😇😇😇🤓🤓🤓!!!!!
