No, sorry, he’s a decent squad player but he’s a poor deliverer of the ball and a limited player. I like him, but I’ve seen altogether too many anonymous and poor performances from him to classify him as “top class”.
Murphy is incredibly mediocre, offers the odd good performance but often goes missing in most games..Overall we need much much better on that right wing, surely even you can admit that? Murphy is a hard worker, and certainly a valuable squad player, but not more than that. Too inconsistent
Great result and like Eddie said we aren’t at full speed yet in terms of attack so imagine when we do get our rhythm . Beating spurs as we all know Is a great result 🙌
I hate how leading the questions are. “How important was the win after a difficult last a few weeks? “ literally giving him the answer he’s looking for inside of the question it’s so dumb

January is a very tough window, I fully expect the club to try and sign a few players it just might not be possible given how hard the window is. It also takes time for players to settle or get used to the team so any player we buy is January might not have an impact until February or March. It’s not ideal but we are where we are.
I'm no sports scientist, but being selected for your country and then playing close to 0 minutes has to be the worst way to prepare for a PL season. Neither staying match fit, nor resting.
I hope it is fitness for Gordon, he looks like he’s well off, bordering unhappy.. Felt Barnes should have stayed on. Real lack of hold in the midfield concerns
Well, I thought it was odd that Barnes came off, but his replacement interrupted spurs and got the assist, howe probally wanted to give gordon some time on the left, to try to get him back in form
Indeed, we sit deep to protect and this means the midfield is not there when the attacking press fails. Teams know they only have to pass through us and they’re into the final third.
hard to know what he does or doesn't do - as fans what do we know about the business side, the CEO, the director of football - it was a bad window but you never know what obstacles he is facing himself dealing with the chairman/PIF. Shite window for sure but def don't know enough about the inner goings on to say Eales out.
Hopefully they have a good season maybe a top 4, I really want them to succeed and grow as a club and become a big team to challenge for trophies 😢 and be able to spend on players
Maybe top 4? I admire your optimism. I can't see that happening this season, we haven't got the squad. If we strengthened in the transfer window then I think we could compete for top 6 but I seriously don't see how we finish above 8th when you see how strong Chelsea and Brighton look etc.
@@knoxy6884 not having European competition could help to be fresh and focus on finishing well if there is no injuries maybe give the talented players from the academy to help
@@marcov8565 Yes definitely less games hopefully means less injuries this season which may help but my concern is that if any of our star players like Gordon or Isak gets injured, we haven't got the consistency on the bench. I could maybe see us finishing 7th if we finish above Man Ure but hopefully we get a couple players in January
Pleased we won. Address the real problems. The boardroom. They messed up in the past two windows. I could have scouted better. Don't sugar coat it. The team were outclassed in the 2nd half and lucky to get the win.
Not sure how they messed up in January. We had no money to sign anyone. The only way we could was by selling players in January. We tried to sell Almiron but he didn’t want to move, that still wouldn’t have fixed our FFP issue and any signings would have just made it worse.
@andrewcharlton6080 I agree. This should have been thought out. Eddie looks dejected. Pleased we got the win but the cracks are being papered. Hope I'm wrong. I'll retract this if so.
@@jonwoodmass2849 Ashworth was the person who was responsible for recruitment and the scouting team and he’s already left. You can blame Mitchell for this window and although there’s some valid criticism for him he’s only been in the job 2 months. He can’t be blamed for what happened previously. Eales can’t be blamed for recruitment, it’s not his area at all, he’s probably involved in the financial aspect but not on deciding who to sign. Maybe we should have cut our losses with Ashworth as soon as Man U offered him the job but the vast majority of Newcastle fans liked that we were not rolling over, that came with consequences but even then it shouldn’t have lead to the issues we’ve had with this window. The PSR issue was poor, however, it was reported that Ashworth had already decided that Joelinton would be sold in June to cover that, he only had a year left and was deemed expendable. Instead after Ashworth was placed on gardening leave Staveley decided she wanted to keep Joelinton so gave him a new contract with signing on fees, agent fees and higher salary. Not only did we miss out on £50-60m from his sale but the FFP hole got bigger by offering him a new deal. It’s all very complicated and I’m sure things can be improved and will be improved going forward. Pointing fingers and demanding sackings isn’t going to improve the situation, especially when we don’t even know what’s gone on behind the scenes.
If I was a reporter I would ask if the team has done you a favour by getting the win in front of Al Rumayan when clearly the transfer team aren’t aligning to his goal of the team being number 1 which is ultimately what would be achieved by strengthening the squad
Absolutely ridiculous giving Pope credit. He can’t catch a ball, he’s absolutely hopeless with his feet. He’s a decent shot stopper that’s about it, we massively need an upgrade. Krafth was sensational today. Kelly great first half, Tino very good. Burn was absolutely awful on the ball. Gordon miles off it at the moment. Midfield don’t deserve much credit as they were unable to control the ball or the match at all. Extremely lucky Tottenham were prime spursy today.
Have you watch the toon the last 12 months? Pope is instrumental for the team. Not great with his distribution but pivotal at keeping the ball out the net. He needs all the credit. We’d be on 2 points now if he hadn’t made the saves he has. Not to mention the confidence and solidity he adds to the back line. He’ll continue to improve as the season goes on. Burn is maximising his ability under Howe. Eddie likes local players in the squad to show the overseas players what the club means to us fans. Not only that, Howe likes players with good attitudes, high football IQ and high workrates. Marc Guehi ticked all those boxes. What’s the point in bringing in players that may unsettle the dressing room and spoil the team unity that ultimately wins us football matches. Gordon’s fitness will improve and therefore his performances will also. Midfield don’t deserve much credit!!!! 7 was rightly MOTM. Covered a lot of ground and defended as a unit. Not to mention the clinical pass that created the WINNING goal.
I wonder if a big announcement is incoming, since the top dog is in town, maybe a once in a lifetime cheque being signed, to dispel in worries about pif intentions
Newcastle need to work hard on passing in training, struggling to pass will eventually leak goals and put defence under unnecessary pressure. Hope needs to stop panicking on back passes its disturbing watching him flap whenever the ball gets played to him. A passing game is how yous finish in a European spot.
Howe sits and watches games settle into a pattern where we are on the back foot without making changes for far too long .. the difference when players who have an intent to pass forward, pass earlier and pass with a purpose are in our midfield is stark .. we waited far too long to make that change .. going forward we just don’t dominate the ball , it’s been long enough for us to work out a way to get Isak into attacking positions regularly.. we just don’t have that creativity or guile on the ball in midfield.

If you mean Newcastle fans who can see the issues with our team, then you can call me a makkem - but you wouldn’t to my face. The issues as others have said are clear. The defence is weak, meaning we cover it with the midfield and sit deeper, cutting our attackers off. So, when the press fails, our midfield is bypassed and the opposition are into our final third constantly. All teams have to do is pass through our press and that’s it - we’re on the back foot. Against teams like City, Arsenal and Liverpool I predict this will lead to heavy losses, three or four goals, because they’ve got the quality to break us down. This is why Eddie was chasing CB reinforcement and to fail is pathetic as we didn’t have any other targets lined up. Unless the squad stays on it fitness wise, we’ll break down later in the season.
@knoxy6884 Nah, he's not bang on at all. Our defense is well drilled, and we have an excellent high press. Our midfield is combative, and our transition is one of the best in the league.
