Lets also put that 6 speed stock TDI 170 and the remapped 5 speed HDI on an autobahn or an empty motorway then max them out side by side all the way to their top speeds and we'll see who wins... Light power to weight ratio might offer a similar performance in a lot of areas but it doesn't always win on everything.
I know you probably won't see this as I'm responding to an 11 year old comment, which in its self is insane. But what about in a race around lanes? The nippy light 306 would beat out the sluggish Leon tdi

Say what you want about the old 150bhp diesels because I moved on a long time ago from that. To me the 150bhp diesels are the new 90 horsepower engines of yesturday. Everythings 270bhp or 300 odd bhp as a standard output now. Thats the old obselete 306 HDi out the window. They still have a place in their heart for an old modified 306 HDi thats been pushed up from 90 to 160 horsepower. 160 horsepower is called barely keeping up with modern traffic. The next comment addressed to me will be the imaginery 400 horsepower HDi engine upgrades where you can add four turbo's and two intercoolers to the standard 2.0 HDi 90 and they overtake and race any Tesla to death. I'm glad these french bean tins failed all their NCT tests and MOT's. Good riddance
My uncle had a bone stock mk5 golf 2.0 tdi 170bhp and it maxed out at 147mph…carrying 3 men…a genuine 147mph nudging almost 150mph from a 2.0 diesel hatch is incredible
I do know what I'm doing, I ran a Dturbo pushing stupid boost before, ended up welding the wastegate shut on it so it did boost quite well, but still they not as quick as people make out, if you want a diesel where you can genuinely say it is fast buy anything with a pd130 engine such as fabia vrs, drop a bigger turbo in, etc, push 220-230bhp out of it, then we're talking, or a bmw 123d, 250bhp after a remap

A 2.0 HDi can do half a million kilometres without problems. TDI's suffer from turbo damages, cracked cilinder heads, defect air-mass meters. Just like TSI's they aren't exactly flawless...
PSA engines are a piece of crap. If you push them they crap themselves breaking turbos, pistons and so on. I dare you to mod a 2.0 HDI to get 300HP plus like some TDI's i know and be usable for day to day tasks. You know what? You cant because PSA engines suck. Trying to talk down a TDI engine in favour of this trashy engine is almost like saying gold is as valuable as iron. Also i know of TDI's that are over 600k km's and still zero problems. And some of them aren't driven by old ladies like those 2.0 HDI.

DolleHengst you obviously don't know what you're talking about. first of all, i'm not a vw fan, so this isn't biased. you are calling "g60, vr6, tdi, tsi,..." shitty engines, although for example tdi is a trade name for almost hundred different engines, and you're putting them all in same category. the only really bad tdi was 2.5 v6, while 1.9 tdi vp and pd are very reliable ones, just as gasoline vr6 which is known to last long (although slow as hell for such big displacement), tsi mostly are shit, but let's stick to diesels. on the other side, 2.0 hdi is widely known for failures - head internals, turbos as well. but you can't blame vw, nor peugeot for turbo failures since they don't make them. i believe some tdi and hdi engines even share the same turbo type. p.s.: early 2.0 tdi pd 140 was very bad as well! broken heads and faulty injectors.

Decent mpg nothing to moan about for the car for its price and the performance you can get without putting a lot of effort :) Don't get me wrong, i know its now a sports car but i'm running mine at 143 atm, and planning to push out a bit more out of it to around 200

My friend has a 1.6 Golf Mk4 it is far more solid then the cars I mentioned above and its built like a sherman tank and its no piece of low quality tin and the Leon is built on it. Don't slag off what you don't know...

Trust me there is a lot of FAST diesels out there (simple e.g Audi R8), i never really knew i always thought you can do them up that well, but trust me, i have a 306 1.9 xtdt i turned up some things like the pump and turbo, and a few quid here and there, most PETROL BMW's Scooby's and other car struggle to catch up :)

Its all very well doing this to a 306 but cost against car value is just not worth it...

Both are good, but 306 is fricking old car, it should be compared with Golf III TDI and I think 306 is a better car than Golf III in general.
