In 2013, it was reported that Capcom only had $152 million dollars. To put that into perspective, the budget of Grand Theft Auto IV was $100 million. Everyone was talking about how Capcom would be bought out, or have their I.P.s sold. Thank goodness, Monster Hunter printed Capcom enough money to get back on their feet.
That first Resident Evil 7 trailer, where people have no idea what it's supposed to be until the title was shown at the end, still one of the best game reveals ever.
@@FentySeroquel I know! Isn't it great that they're not wasting time on projects no one asked for and refining and reinvigorating their most beloved IPs?
I _really_ hope Capcom’s success brings back Mega Man Legends 3, more MvC games, as well as a reboot of Darkstalkers, Rival Schools, Dino Crisis Remake…etc
Damn great ideas, lemme tell ya! However mate, I'd like Capcom to revive one particular VS franchise that set one helluva benchmark with its second iteration. The dream is this... Capcom vs SNK 3 Need I say more?! (Okay, with a lengthy campaign weaving a detailed, compelling story between ALL the fighters. Any dlc would feature an expansion to the base storyline featuring any future fighters.) (One more feature is a must, top-notch-netcode for online matches)
That RE2Make/DMC 5 one-two punch was what made me celebrate: the company that I loved so much in the 90's & early 2000's was FINALLY back! Those were the first two games in a while that felt like Capcom was reaching the height of their glory days, once again. And little nitpick here, but c'mon Max, how you gonna make a video talking about Capcom rising back to their former glory, and not even MENTION DMC 5?! He freakin' loved that game!!
That game is a cringe weeb fest. The 'song' for the game is also fucking annoyingly awful as it plays every single fucking time you're in combat and there's no way to turn it off. The game is also move from one area to another fighting stuff. The older games had you solve puzzles and such. DMC5 is pretty much like DMC2 when it comes to gameplay. Long gone is the atmosphere of the DMC series.
I dunno. They lost a lot of people and the guy who was in charge of street fighter for a long time, Ono, collapsed once from being overworked. We are seeing the fruits of their labor, but I bet some dark shit goes on there.
@@bananabike279 I just don't like their freakn DLC scams that they do with their fighting games. For instance, 22 characters were supposed to drop for Street Fighter 6. Capcom decided to only give us 18 at launch. The rest of the 4 characters won't be coming out until next year as DLC -- most likely as purchases. Akuma is one or the DLC characters. What a freakin shame. I love and hate Capcom.

I feel like the moment Capcom started to truly come back was with RE7, it just took a while for that good fortune to finally come to the fighting game team.
For me it was MH World. I loved the MH series and when the game came out I went into it so hard, met friends and did every content I could. I got burned out a bit before Iceborne but I honnestly have so many good memories of that game.
Something worth noting is that almost every game since RE7 has had a demo everyone can play that is pretty representative of the final product. It's clear that from that moment forward, they wanted to turn on a new leaf.
I think an important thing to keep in mind with products is that dev cycles for a project generally tend to be like a minimum 3 years from initial planning to final product. A new entry in an existing pipeline? You might be able to push it out in like 1~2 years, but anything new or decently sized is going to take like 3~5. Inafune basically got promoted to corporate management in 2006. Shit started hitting the fan about 2~3 years later and got increasingly worse. Even after he left in 2010, the last few projects he’d started up would have still been chugging along. Kind of how like Konami still pushed Metal Gear Survive after Kojima got kicked out. Any course correction that occurred within Capcom would have needed to happen AFTER Inafune’s last few projects wrapped up. And the efforts of any of said course correction would likely have taken about 5-ish years to bear fruit if at all. So we’re talking a time frame of about 5~10 years minimum after Inafune left the company in order for Capcom to get into shape. And it just so happens that RE7, the game that signaled Capcom’s rebirth, was in 2017.
Not related specifically to your comment but it's refreshing reading a comment with some level of understanding of buisness/production. The average gamer comment seems to act like video games(and their content) is just willed into existence out of thin air, rather then being a time consuming procress that takes a lot of resources. So I appreciate you're measured take!
Feels so stark to see it all laid out like this, even if a part of me bristles at making it JUST one man's fault as such thinking often gets people to focus too much in one direction and possibly miss other factors that could also be a problem... but I can't really find anything to ARGUE about your take either.
Agreed. I personally don't harbor as much intense hatred towards Inafune as most people do, but he did kickstart the push towards the Capcom Westernization era of 2005-2015 which in hindsight is a massive mistake on his part, one that forever stained his career. Sure there are some gold born from that era such as Dead Rising and Lost Planet but the meh outweighs the good. It isn't just him though, Ono was making one mistake after another for the Fighting Division of Capcom, and the top brass of Capcom expecting unrealistic sales from their games, it all combined into one big fiasco of mismanagement.
@@darrylaz3570 I don't think Ono is completely at fault during Street Fighter 5 development. Capcom is in VERY different place at that time. They even can barely make SF5 and that was with Sony's help
@@Kogworks That is also true. Inafune always has been a man of ambition, being kept in check often by either limiting his scope either by hardware or budget, which resulted in some of his best games on the NSES/GBA/NDS. Basically, so long as he was kept in check of his ambitions (someone to tell him no we can't do this/that), he does the best he could through those limitations and we get some gold like MegaMan Legends. Once he was let loose and gain complete control, guess what happened? Mighty No 9 fiasco happened. Immediately after that though? His next project gets him in a smaller, more limited capacity with the Gunvolt series and it worked out very well.

Honestly I think the RE Engine is behind a lot of the success. It's flexible, it runs nicely on most PCs, it allows high fidelity without blowing up your GPU, it's doing work!
Honestly Monster Hunter Rise looking as good as it does on Switch was phenomenal. Sure it's 30 FPS, but as a consistent 30 it's still an incredibly enjoyable experience. Hopefully they continue down this path.
I tried DMCV on a Ryzen 7 5600X yesterday. It just used 6% of the entire CPU to run at 60+ fps. Warframe, a much less graphically intensive game used around 4% for 60-80 fps. Destiny 2 almost 20% CPU usage, and Red Dead Redemption 2 hovered around 25-30% usage for 60 fps. Each game at max settings, working in the background while I was downloading other games on Steam. RE Engine is extremely optimized.
I love when a company prioritizes their own engine and does well with it. Every other game just uses Unreal and understandably so but something about putting in that extra effort especially when they get it right is a commendable effort that few companies can claim.
They got massively humbled around the time of DmC. They were so high on their own success that they became terrible, but their company almost tanking woke them up. SFV coasted them along during their lull in activity, and then with the release of RE7. After that they found their footing, and became their old selves
Nah they were still making mistakes after that. Remember MvC infinite and how it looked when it first came out or when they said people only care about movesets to justify taking out the x-men
@@PrestoPuma everyone knows how much of that game was forced by Disney. Removing any trace of characters they weren't using in the mcu, pushing certain characters hard, using that atrocious UI that resembles marvel mobile games
I do agree with you Max, that with the recent success of Monster Hunter, Resident Evil remake series, and the upcoming Street Fighter 6 it does seem that Capcom is back on the right foot. Now we can get them to actually make a very good Megaman game will be in business. But that doesn't mean that there can't be a few hurdles for them along the way that they need to overcome such as the fandoms desire to have great content but also story-driven games that can appeal to a general audience.
Monster Hunter was always good though. Sure it didn't explode in the west but it was always huge in Japan and straight up their only successful series during the crapcom days.

The announcement of dragons dogma 2 alone got me to go out and buy a modern console. I had always planned on getting one for monster hunter eventually, but man. Seeing capcom giving DD a chance again sent my gamer hype sky high again. Super excited to see what that game can REALLY be, since not even half of the planned content of the first one made it in, and it was still a really solid title. Got to see bits of game-play from the online version, but it never made it to the west unfortunately.
Between Monster Hunter, Resident evil, Devil May Cry 5, the upcoming Street Fighter 6, and even Mega Man getting some love, Capcom has been killing it so far!
Monster Hunter has been consistent since 2004 and has only improved since. Capcom may have struggled for a while but Monster Hunter still continues to slap even during the company's worst times. Hell, in 2013, Capcom was in a state of inferno yet Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate came out and was-- and still is, widely considered as *THE* best entry in the series alongside World.

Ever since (I'm gonna say) RE7, Capcom's been on an absolute comeback streak releasing hit after hit after hit with only a few minor faults. I also feel they've struck gold with their RE-Engine with no sign of stopping. They're on a total roll!
While some people would called RE3 a "fumble", let me remind you that game is the Capcom's 11th most sold game. And at 6.4 million units, it has sold more than OG Re2, OG Re2 and OG Street Fighter 2 (not combined sales).

I've been a fan of MH , DMC , Resident Evil , and Street Fighter as well as so many other wonderful titles since i was a child and now 22. It makes me unbelievably happy to see this company go back to the roots of how a gaming company should be and operate and as someone who's currently playing one of their major games (Sunbreak) the appreciation towards not only the game but us as a customer is phenomenal. Another franchise of theirs that is rolling within that period were the 3DS Ace Attorney games. Phoenix Wright is also showing up in some of the most obscure games like the project Xzone and even collabing with Layton. They even rereleased the Great Ace Attorney games for the rest of the world. Would love to see more of this Capcom
More like dividing the fans and enraging everyone who loved Apollo Justice. Dual Destinies was easily another fumble of that era. As it’s story was flat out awful and the gameplay was a downgrade from what came before. (So much handholding.) Spirit of Justice was better, but the damage was done and it was clearly visible throughout the game. Why do you think there hasn’t been an Ace Attorney 7 despite the successful localisation of The Great Ace Attorney and the series’ expansion onto other platforms.
@@mrfoxly6833 personally it's not that bad. The cases were interesting and the new characters introduced were awesome. Introduced an aspect of Apollo that's not just about lawyer stuff. Dual destinies also introduced new fans to the franchise and which in turn also tried out the original trilogy that were also rereleased to all modern platforms at that time. I saw some let's players who even tried the trilogy because they saw the ads for Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice. Also it could be a lot of things on why there's no new ace attorney game for now. Capcom is producing a lot of new games and rerelease a bunch of old stuff so I understand that they may not have prioritized ace attorney for now
@@Lednarski If by new aspect, you mean a dead friend who was just another murder victim. (They did this way better with Durke) Not to mention, the majority of DDs characters were either extremely one dimensional or trying way too hard to be quirky. Honestly the only things worth defending in that game are Prosecutor Blackquill, the character models and the music.
Capcom's got a ton of momentum. While they can still misstep, they aren't making many of them, and they've more importantly demonstrated that they can correct if they do make them. Also, the RE Engine is a killer app that puts them above punching weight with the current industry standards, and its something they made in house. That's an engine to be proud of.
RE Engine being designed to run across a very broad spectrum of hardware amidst other developers having trouble getting their games optimized even for consoles is definitely an ace in the hole for Capcom.

They're certainly in a new golden age, that's unmistakable. That said, I do wish that they would be more willing to experiment with some of their dormant IP's instead of just their golden gooses. Like if they want to play it a little safe, I think a remake or new game in the Dead Rising series with Capcom's new approach to game design could be well received. If that works out, maybe they could try Darkstalkers and if that works out, the sky's the limits from Dino Crisis to Okami to Breath of Fire to Power Stone to Viewtiful Joe to Strider to Onimusha to Rival Schools to Lost Planet to Bionic Commando to maybe even one day, if we're lucky, Marvel vs. Capcom.
They took the step with the Dragon Dogma 2 that it's a big risk, but yeah i really miss Dead Rising the things were completely good with DR3 and then they tried to transform the series in the ugly cousin of Saint Rows with the fourth game
I think of all the titles that you mentioned, the thing that's most likely up again soon is them giving another swing at the Marvel vs Capcom series. I wouldn't even put MVCI's problems all on Capcom, a big fault with that game was Disney being annoying about who they would and wouldn't let them put in the game. Now that Disney has the rights to most all of those characters back, there wouldn't be as many annoying restrictions with the roster.
We need a Capcom Fighting Collection Vol. 2 that includes Power Stone 1&2, Plasma Sword/Star Gladiator, Rival Schools/Project Justice and other fighting game gems.
Imagine if Monster Hunter 6 has more than twice or 3x the amount of content World had, then add to it crossplay, worldwide multiplatform release day one and hopefully if the game sells much more than MHW they make multiple expansions for an entire console gen, since the next game would take 7+ years of development. Generations Ultimate has to be dethroned eventually.
I would love to see a future Capcom Cup that not only had Street Fighter, but a new Marvel game, a new Darkstalkers game, and a new Rival Schools game. Now THAT would be a hell of a tournament to watch.
The thing that gets me concerned with SF6 is that Capcom said they expect 10 million units sold. It's not if it can reach that number that concerns me, it's that it creates a behavior of increasing expectations until they are untenable. Kind of like the thought process that lead to RE6, initially. Edit: I want to clarify, it's not necessarily SF6 sales expectations, but I'm worried lofty sales expectations may become a pattern.
I mean Capcom is still a publicly traded company in Japan so they have to give some numbers to their investors. And it doesn't seem too crazy of a number considering SFV sold 7 million in its entire lifespan with the bad press at the beginning and only being on PS4 and PC while SF6 will be on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series, and PC
SF6 is easily one of the biggest and most hyped up fighting game releases ever, especially now that crossplay and rollback on launch on top of a multitude of modes, new additions, and optional fun junk are in the game. I see nothing preventing SF6 from hitting BEYOND 10 mil not long after launch.
I know this is decades ago but Capcom kept releasing versions of sf3 at a loss until they broke even on third strike......this company is willing to risks. I think the 10 mill is a large deciding factor for what they will do for DLC. Heavy rollout. Only 4 dlc characters. Next year may have 8 of the game is successful. I'm sure resource allocation is at play here.
There are few companies in gaming I truly appreciate existing; there's always some little cavoite that makes me wonder if I really want to be supporting them with my purchases. Right now, Capcom is the only one I'm absolutely confident will put their heart and soul into making a fantastic experience for us even if they still occasionally misstep. There are a few divisions within other companies that do great too, but they just don't deliver the whole package in the same way Capcom has been doing with no strings attached from the business side of things.
I only know Darkstalkers from the VS series but to see only three Darkstalkers characters make it to 3D is kinda criminal. I hope Capcom is able to create and manage a team that loves the Darkstalkers series and properly introduce the characters to a new generation of gamers. This is all just wishful thinking but one can only hope.
Capcom has been one if not my favorite developer without me realizing it. Been playing Monster Hunter since Freedom Unite and in recent years have been trying out some of their other IPs like RE and DMC and have been absolutely loving it. Now with Street Fighter 6 coming out soon I cannot wait, I’ve never played SF before but from what I’ve seen and played in the demo it’s looking like another Capcom banger!

I say this as someone that to this day is forever grateful to Yoshinori Ono for bringing Street Fighter back from the dead and championing Darkstalkers as hard as he did: the best thing Capcom did was get rid of him. There were a lot of really weird decisions made on his watch, many would say too many weird decisions. Ever since Matsumoto and Nakayama took over the fighting game division, we have seen a complete about-face in communication, content, presentation, passion, etc. This is especially jarring when you look at how SFV was promoted and handle before and after its launch versus how they're handling SF6. They elevated people that desperately wanted to fix past mistakes made, and it couldn't have been done at a much better time. Also, Dragon's Dogma 2 is happening. That seals the CapGod status for me.
Granted, Resident Evil games are the only ones I play from Capcom, but it's great to see them make a comeback. I have a lot of respect for them as a company. They also have an excellent track record for releasing good quality games that are properly optimized for the platforms they're released on, which is seemingly becoming less common with other companies.
@João Fernandes Thing is, none of Sega's heavy hitters these days sell as much as Capcom blockbusters. Even if we attribute Atlus feats as Sega's, Persona/SMT ain't even a quarter of Monster Hunter's reach and numbers. Capcom edges Sega both critically, and most importantly, commercially.
@João Fernandes Well, Sega generates more revenue because gaming is not the only venture the entire holdings is operating. I'm glad that Sega is doing quite well recently, but their net worth is still the lowest among the major JP companies, even Koei Tecmo is currently bigger than them.
Sega released some great and decent games for the past few years and they even revived some of their games (with the help of different devs iirc) that are almost forgotten by everyone like Streets of Rage. But in Konami's case? I don't know about that yet but we'll see.
@@crisgeraldperez7 last year konami held an indie game competition where devs would pitch an idea for a game based on older konami franchises. The winner got their game funded to be released. They also released new entries in their old franchise like getsu fuumaden. The silent hill projects is also coming along. While it seems like konami doesn't have the development prowess like they used to, at least they're starting to get back into console game development albeit using talents from other companies. I just hope they can get back just like capcom since they have shit ton of IPs under their belt.
Monster Hunter World is also the only game I know of that year, that did Gaming as a service well, they constantly updated the game, fixed issues, gave people an expansion that wasn't planned but because people wanted more of it, they did extremely well and is what probably why Capcom stepped up their games

I've never been an RE or Megaman guy, but I'd waited for so long to see a Monster Hunter on home systems, where its scale and fidelity could be properly realised. The story of Inafune intrigues me because it's not like his thoughts were in any way UN-common at that time. TONS of people, in the press, on forums, even in Japan, repeated some variant of this thinking. Japan was taken by surprise by the OVERWHELMING sales of US-developed games and saw their own games sell for not nearly as much (though I do wonder in hindsight, were they still selling profitably but not AS profitably as US-games, or were they genuinely not selling well at all?), and thought that in order to develop games for the HD generation they had to pour FAR more resources and time into their games, slowing down their output tremendously for games that they were not as capable of developing as the West. This was the narrative that was being spread at the time. If it was true, then Inafune wasn't WRONG to reach outside the company to find ways to develop games quicker, and gain skills from outside developers that could cover their own weaknesses. It just feels like every step he took to EXECUTE that plan floundered. He cheaped out instead of hiring the dev studios of skilled devs that actually made those million-selling games, as if he thought it didn't matter WHAT western studio he hired to make games, just as long as they were Western. Or perhaps it was a management-level issue: that trying to steer development of a Japanese games with Japanese management methods on a western studio, was always doomed to fail. Whatever the case may be, it feels to me that an idea that wasn't INHERENTLY wrong (our industry is experiencing a backslide and we need to proactively find ways to fight it) lead to a plan that was just FUNDAMENTALLY wrong-headed at nearly every step. And man oh man, I REALLY want to know the inside scoop to what they were doing with their money and what the thinking was at that time. Pouring money into making Phanta Rei-engine for a game that never seems to be coming out, spending a TON of money on outside promo stuff like the animations and licensed music for Street Fighter X Tekken practically NECCESSITATING them to include some real nickle and dime DLC-stuff or the game would NEVER make back it's investment (spoler alert, it didn't anyway), having to reboot development on SF5 from it's initial realistic art style to the point where they had to take Sony-money to wrap it up and make it a PS4 /PC game only, spending as little as they could on Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, pumping out fighting games seemingly thinking that the renaissance meant there were surely audiences for ALL the games they had instead of spreading that stuff out... it just seems like financial decision after financial decision in that time was scientifically engineered to be as much murder on their finances as possible. Not to mention all the studios they contracted to make games that... didn't exactly set the world on fire. (Though wasn't Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom HEAVILY affected by the 2011 earthquake? I seem to recall their initial plan was ACTUALLY to release the Ultimate characters as downloadable content first, and then do an update far later... but the earthquake so severly changed things for them (personnel quit and work essentially stopped) that they seemed to decide to just take what they had made and put it on a disc, or else risk it never being made at all?) I wonder if that's why they've been so conservative lately with game releases. Sure, the games they DO release are (mostly) polished and really good, and sell well enough for their budgets. It may sting that they're more or less the Monster Hunter and Resident Evil company these days... but it seems to be a strategy that keeps the lights on and leads to (mostly) well-regarded games. Capcom scaling down and laser-focusing on these hits is probably the soundest financial AND development-based decision they've ever made... But maaaaaaaaannnnnn..... us nostalgic oldheads who remember the times when they just POURED out a variety of IP's of very different styles still can't help but wish those days would come back. But I'm afraid that it's just not possible these days: SNK supports both SamSho and King of Fighters AND Fatal Fury... but I wonder if ANY of them will be as ambitious as SF6, and I fear that it is just not feasible for any dev to support multiple fighting games if one of them is as ambitious as SF6 is. I fear that in todays climate, the days of width is truly over. We will have staples that get the BIG money, and the smaller stuff gets re-releases or games on the level of Megaman 11. Certainly not BAD games... but they are NOT delivering anything AAA in them, and we will get like ONE of them a year.
Interesting read. Today is a different time indeed, games took TONS of money to make, and they need to be really carefull so they can make profit. I completely understand why Capcom keeping it safe nowadays. Well they always try to invent something new back in the day, and it doesn't always work out either (Clover studio). What the most important is always the human resources, they can still make all this amazing games lately is due to them. I pray that most of them will still stay and doesn't move to another company or Capcom gotta give new blood some experiences so they can have another Itsuno, Kamiya and Mikami

CAPGOD wasn't risk adversive and made alot of unique and distinct IPs. I don't they'll ever return to that level of creativity but they're definitely back on the right track. Very rare for a company to recover like they have.
I feel like they could really do well with experimental IPs by just developing them primarily as Switch/PC titles first, which will help excuse lower fidelity graphics, lower budget and stuff like that, then if the IP is received well, it shouldn't be difficult to port it later.
Capcom is my favorite developer and yeah they are doing a great job right now! The Marvel Vs series can definitely make a comeback. Capcom isn't as bullheaded with it's management and with the MCU's stagnating reputation, I'm sure Disney would be willing to actually play ball.
Lets not get too carried away. Two steps forwards, one step back may be progress. But all it takes is a small change and they're going backwards again.
I am just worried that they are starting to pour politics into the games (SF6 is trying a slight approach to it, and I hope most ppl criticize that part), other than that, they are doing great.

They have been on fire with Devil May Cry, RE, Monster Hunter, and now Street Fighter 6, they are certainly Capglorious right now and I see them rising further despite having no interest in Exoprimal. They will become CapGod for me once I see some Dragon's Dogma 2 footage and if they can get us some more vs titles even if Marvel is not the crossover this time around.
I personally would LOVE to see a studio/developer fighting game deal! Have a Capcom/Marvel-NetherRealm game, jointly worked on! Just to see a darker version of it! The tech these days is only getting crazier! That’s just my personal wish! Actual individualized character story modes, a Kombat tower, going back and forth with Marvel multiverse options based on who survives MK tourneys, changing stories as DLC content/seasons. Something along those lines would be ridiculous to me!
To think of it, all my life I have been playing Capcom games, from the earliest Cadillac and Dinosaurs in the arcades to the latest RE4R on my PC. Rain or shine, Capcom remains to be my favorite. Can't imagine a life without it. Must be boring!
They've been killing it (overall, there have been fumbles like Max mentioned) ever since RE7. I honestly didn't grow up with a ton of Capcom in my life, basically just Mega Man Battle Network and Mega Man Zero/ZX (I'm also super into Ace Attorney but that came later), but I do remember some of the dark times like Asura's Wrath's true ending being locked behind DLC. I actually got super pissed when I reached that, to the point I didn't even watch the ending online for the longest time, I just wanted nothing to do with that game for awhile. I wonder how much of this success is due to the RE Engine, because it seems like it's doing a shit ton to allow them to make games smoothly that look and run great.
it’d definitely be cool to see Capcom Cup supporting another game other than Street Fighter. but part of that is dependent on consumers and if enough will even support a hypothetical new fighting game…ofc, Capcom has to take the risk of making a new fighting game that’s not SF as well, and probably have to accept adjusting their expectations to a realistic standard (because it’ll most likely not match SF6’s success). it’s tricky…but we’ll see, maybe anything’s possible at this point!
I love how nowadays, the dynamic of western game development and Japanese game development that led to CapCom’s dark ages has completely shifted to where it’s now western game development that’s in major trouble while Japanese game development is thriving now, so much that publishers like Activision/Blizzard, and Bethesda are where CapCom were at during the dark ages.
Also in 2013, what didn't help Capcom, was the release of DmC: Devil May Cry in January. GTA5 came out the same year in September.
I think they definitely wouldn't be doing as well if MH World didn't take off with the casual gamers like it did

If they aren’t already there, they’re absolutely on that path.
Devil May Cry 5 is what won me over, it made me feel like Capcom was back.
I agree DMC5 was a rising phoenix of badassity.
Me too, I love that game and hope we get dmc6. Also hope we get a dmc movie some day but I won't hold my breathe 🫠.
For me I was RE7 seeing it tretuen to survival horror.
Stories like this make Capcom such an awesome and inspiring company. When faced against dire situations, they always manage to make a comeback.
I dunno. They lost a lot of people and the guy who was in charge of street fighter for a long time, Ono, collapsed once from being overworked. We are seeing the fruits of their labor, but I bet some dark shit goes on there.

I feel like the moment Capcom started to truly come back was with RE7, it just took a while for that good fortune to finally come to the fighting game team.
Take me back to the days of the Kitchen demo… 😌
It really was
@@TheAAJYu2016... I'll never forget it... It's actually what got me into the Franchise. Yes guys. RE7 did indeed revive the Resident Evil Franchise.
For me it was MH World. I loved the MH series and when the game came out I went into it so hard, met friends and did every content I could. I got burned out a bit before Iceborne but I honnestly have so many good memories of that game.
RE7 damn revived Capcom

Yeah, DMC5 already looked like a next gen game running on previous gen hardware.
Tell that to my outdated ass who has to upgrade his PC to play sf6 lol

Funny thing is that Monster Hunter was totally fine during this entire period
Monster Hunter has never missed ever since PSP era
Yeah but always misses to become a mainstream franchise (out of Japan) until world
@@000mjd What about Monster Hunter Freedom 3, MH Generations and MH4?
@@000mjd They were on handhelds then and were perfectly happy with the success they were getting there.
@@fernandozavaletabustos205 mainly the issue that the mainstream in the West was largely allergic to anything handheld (other than Pokemon)
(They did this way better with Durke)
Not to mention, the majority of DDs characters were either extremely one dimensional or trying way too hard to be quirky.
Really. I think it's a good thing for devs to have their in house engine. Ue5 is a really powerful tool but if it is misused, it can be a disaster
RE Engine being designed to run across a very broad spectrum of hardware amidst other developers having trouble getting their games optimized even for consoles is definitely an ace in the hole for Capcom.
@@AlmightySammich The same beast that drives REmake 4 and SF6 can also scale down slim enough to run Monster Hunter Rise smoothly on a Switch Lite. It's just an uncommonly good engine.

IIIIIIIIIII HAAAAAAAAAATE CAAAAAAAPCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
It’s definitely a good year for capcom this year
Straight up, I feel like right now up to these past few years have been the BEST time to be a Capcom fan
Capcom.
baby steps, once they're done establishing their new norm, they can branch out from their core series'
Power Stone
Viewtiful is coming as first revival I bet
We need a Capcom Fighting Collection Vol. 2 that includes Power Stone 1&2, Plasma Sword/Star Gladiator, Rival Schools/Project Justice and other fighting game gems.
So excited for Capcoms future. Dragon's Dogma 2 and Monster Hunter 6 are gonna be so hype.
DD2 will be something else!
Don't forget exoprimal
Dragon's Dogma 2 is gonna be amazing!!
@@kidomaruking35 Apparently, the demo went horribly bad to the point everybody has forgotten about Exoprimal
Should've been a Dino Crisis remake
If they could develop a Nintendo Switch version, that would be even morw awesome.
RE6 was a great game
You mean 4. There's Morrigan, Felicia, Hsien Ko, and Jedha
Unfortunately I don’t count MVCI as a true successor to UMVC3
I also would like a new DarkStalkers game. Or at least an adaptation.
@@danso_999and bb hood
Lmao exactly what I thought

Now if only companies like Konami and Sega could treat their beloved franchises this way, because man Capcom is killing it right now!
@João Fernandes I think for konami's case it can be much more of a bias than it does for more support
Monster Hunter World is also the only game I know of that year, that did Gaming as a service well, they constantly updated the game, fixed issues, gave people an expansion that wasn't planned but because people wanted more of it, they did extremely well and is what probably why Capcom stepped up their games
i know max doesn't play handheld games, but a lot of credit also goes to monhun on the 3ds. it stayed popular in japan and was gaining notoriety in the west. long enough to possibly help fund resident evil 7, monhun world ect. ect.
And the MMOs probably helped, too.
It's insane how RE7 literally defined the renaissance of Capcom. I loved that game, and I love it more every year for what it paved the way for.

It's nice to see Capcom return to quality. Hope one day ubisoft can do the same one day, forgot how many bangers they made in the good Ole days
The fact that Megaman X9 is no longer a pipe dream makes me unbelievably happy.
I've never been an RE or Megaman guy, but I'd waited for so long to see a Monster Hunter on home systems, where its scale and fidelity could be properly realised. World was everything that franchise needed, and certainly everything I wanted from it. Iceborne was also the very sweet cherry on the top (and Rise was very enjoyable too, as a PC player). Besides MH, I like fighting games but I'd never gotten into SF (I was a Tekken kid with other titles here and there). SF6 will be my first because it looks so good.
Feel like depends on if SF6 is recieved well or not. I hope CapGod is back after the bumpy road post UMVC3.
really hoping that they can do a new Darkstalkers eventually, i feel like that series can be a really good selling franchise if Capcom would just make a new game for it
I love how no one mentions MonHun in the Crapcom era. Because, you know, those games kept Capcom afloat for those dark years
Thank you! You are completely right. It was the only series that actually kept making good received games.
CAPGOD has always been the best game developer for me such unique ART it’s godly they’re promo art for fighting characters
and a banging stacked catologue
Streetfighter 2 on the SNES changed my life and I was 8 years old and boy was I hooked the fight game catalogue was A+ I played every fighting game they released
And then devil may cry dropped and it blew my fricking mind and have loved that series can’t wait for DMC6
Then
The story of Inafune intrigues me because it's not like his thoughts were in any way UN-common at that time.
I seem to recall their initial plan was ACTUALLY to release the Ultimate characters as downloadable content first, and then do an update far later... but the earthquake so severly changed things for them (personnel quit and work essentially stopped) that they seemed to decide to just take what they had made and put it on a disc, or else risk it never being made at all?)
I wonder if that's why they've been so conservative lately with game releases.

I feel like they could really do well with experimental IPs by just developing them primarily as Switch/PC titles first, which will help excuse lower fidelity graphics, lower budget and stuff like that, then if the IP is received well, it shouldn't be difficult to port it later.

Don't forget about DMC5 in 2019 that was critically acclaimed and sold incredible well. It was right around the corner of RE2 remake.
It was an incredible timeline for me.
Devil May Cry V was really impressive too
Hello! Here from beating Dragons Dogma 2, they are CapGod for sure.
You really gotta wonder what happened 6 years ago to have Capcom actually get their shit together and actually deliver on people want.
Games flopping would do the too a company
all their IPs were dead in the water
- RE was broken by 6 (really 4 when they threw the plot out)
- MonHun was 3ds exclusive
- Lost Planet was gone
- Street fighter never really recovered greatly after 2 (cause 3 was new gen group)
- Ghost trick was cult classic but not great
- Ace attorney had one good trilogy
- Dragon Dogma was given a pointless MMO and died in a year
- Mega-man was dead
@@marcusclark1339 monhun was never dead in the water. It always sold really well really well in Japan and mh4u sold 4 mill in the west as well.
The Capcom redemption arc is real
No. Darkstalkers 4 and MegaMan Legends 3 are still subjects that Capcom desperately avoid and refuse to accept responsibility for.
If they remake Onimusha in the style of DMC5, yes CapGod is back
I loved watching Capcom make this comeback. Let's hope Konami takes note. I'm such a huge capcom fanboy since MHW

the transition from capcom to capgod (in the late 2010s) started with re7, people forget, it's just at this time period the stink of crapcom was still lingering
Capcom will be Capgod once they revive Lost Planet back to its former glory and release Dragon's Dogma 2 ;P
Yeah I remember when Capcom was in a very dark place for a few years. Now it’s crazy how many bangers they keep releasing back to back

Hope Capcom makes more Dino crisis and Onimusha games.
There has been some speculation about a Dino Crisis remake because they renewed the trademark a while back.
So maybe late 2023-early 2024?
And *I* will never forget the moment you found out that Kitchen was Resident Evil 7. That still, to this day, is one of my favourite videos of yours, just the reaction to it, when you were joking at first that it'd be RE7, and then the reveal happens, and you lost you fucking mind. It was AMAZING. lol
That one didn't age quite so well
The Marvel Vs series can definitely make a comeback.
@@aerus3446 What f*cking politics, dude? You're imagining things.
We're so proud of you, CapGod
Anyway, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and Midnight Suns had X-men chacacters, as well as finally had new Dragonball Tenkaichi game announced at DBFZ Grand Finals, so do we had new MvC announcement at EVO UMvC3 Grand Finals?
I think we are still a bit of a ways off from the return of Capgod. I want to see what Dragon's Dogma 2 is shaping up to be, and if we're going to get ANYTHING regarding Onimusha aside from the Netflix series. I want that series to make a return so badly!
Capcom has been pretty much on fire for the last four to five years overall. I am also impressed with how well their games also work on the Steamdeck
its wild how showing fans the passion you have for the game can make it do well.

@@garbz1414 @drealmanbat148
The was relevant when I commented in January.
@@romaferrari9430 im uninformed by what was relevant when you commented this. Can you please explain what happened?
@@voodoochile7 They released some type of DRM thing (IDK) and they also had a very bad DLC for street fighter.
Yes, I was thinking about that the other day. They're definitely back
Nah man, they're back to Crapcom again.
Capgod when? Well, whens the new Darkstalkers?
I remember you GOING THROUGH IT when Capcom was failing, especially Marvel VS Capcom Infinite happened
I’ll call them Capgod when they start remaking 80’s titles like Knights of the Round, Black Tiger, Magic Sword etc.
To think of it, all my life I have been playing Capcom games, from the earliest Cadillac and Dinosaurs in the arcades to the latest RE4R on my PC. Rain or shine, Capcom remains to be my favorite. Can't imagine a life without it. Must be boring!
Despite Bionic Commando not selling well, I still love that game. And the music in that game rocks!
They’ll finally become REAL Capgod if they make another Mega Man game
As a long time street fighter and resident evil fan… no games get me more hyped.
My favourite gaming company, glad to see them back on the up and up. I really hope those leaks were true and we get Power Stone 3
Im so pumped for SF again
Dmc and RE2 remake got them back on track and now, Scotty's on fire
I love how nowadays, the dynamic of western game development and Japanese game development that led to CapCom’s dark ages has completely shifted to where it’s now western game development that’s in major trouble while Japanese game development is thriving now, so much that publishers like Activision/Blizzard, and Bethesda are where CapCom were at during the dark ages.
