    if this is the theme for their final battle with the black king, then i wouldnt be surprised they had to initiate a scratch. it has a feeling of 'regality' and mysticism derived from being the pre-scratch versions of the beloved ancestors, but its certainly much more 'passive'

      I have an idea (witch i am using for my comic of what they did) is that the black king did not appear so after they exploded they found away to get back to their universe and they succeed the battle and then opens a portal to the homestuck universe then I role the credits

      I can't find the other comment, but yes, absolutely. Much of this song leads up to something huge, but it doesn't. It keeps leading up, then going down, then going back up, until nothing actually happens and the feeling of loss finally buries itself.

    There is a theory that having a Knight among the players indicates that the session has a problem, that it lacks something - and the Knight is supposed to try to balance it with their aspect.
    Karkat is a Knight of Blood, and beta-trolls lacked bonds, responsibility, cameradie; they were artificially separated because of Alternia's propaganda. Karkat did his best to make his co-players stick together, organize and direct them, additionally making sure that server/client pairs would not harm each other during the game (he couldn't foresee the longer perspective, unfortunately).
    Beta-kids' session lacked Time. Bec Noir's ascending cut them short of motion, progression and literal future, they didn't have time to finish their quests, to fight the Denizens and create the Genesis Frog. Dave, as a Knight of Time, tried to fight Bec to give others more time, and Davesprite sacrificed himself to save the alpha timeline. He did not succeed even in short perspective though, since a) Bec Noir was too much for them to handle, b) both trolls and them were secretly manipulated by Doc Scratch, thus making all their actions beneficial for the Lord of Time, so they had no chance anyways.
    We know little to nothing about alpha-trolls' session, aside from them failing and scratching the session. But knowing that their session had a Knight of Mind, we can safely assume that they lacked bigger perspective and direction, didn't keep track of their actions. As we see in Openbound, alpha-trolls are nothing but a bunch of disorganisized teenagers who are unlikely to think before saying or doing something and who pay no mind to the consequences their actions have. It was Latula's duty to guide the team and foresee the consequences, and she most likely failed at it. I'm getting loser vibes from her, because Latula is actually pretty clever and she must understand that she failed in protecting others, that's why she's hiding her guilt behind the "radical gamer girl" façade. I'm not saying that she's the only one to blame, no sir. But it's clear for me that not paying enough *Mind* was the reason these trolls failed.
    Having said all that, I want to direct your attention to the song and the cover art. The song is not as powerful and serious as "Rex Duodecim Angelus" - it's not powerful at all for me. But it... doesn't have to be. Alpha-trolls are not near as agressive as beta-trolls, Beforus didn't raise them as fighters. The song is more relaxed in pace and in melody, unfitting for the Battle Finale - but so were they. On the picture we see alpha-trolls doing mostly jackshit. Cronus holds his rifle the way that makes it impossible to aim properly, Rufioh holds a speer and a shield, which is.. well, not effective against the Black King actually. Meulin holds some papers instead of a weapon, and Latula and Mituna have brought fcking gamepads with them. Kankri, Kurloz and Damara are just, well, standing (though Damara does it in a less pathetic way), Aranea has dropped her dice and is panicing, Porrim is doing nothing, and Meenah and Horuss are simply flexing.
    These kids aren't fighting. They aren't even facing the danger. Even human kids did better job fighting their enemies even though they are naturally weakier than trolls and weren't raised to fight. That is why I'm so impressed by this song and this cover art. They are a *perfect* depiction of alpha-trolls. They didn't fail because of Bec Noir (who was actually brought into existence by beta-trolls rather than beta-kids themselves, once you really think about it). They didn't fail because of Condesce and Draconian Dignitary, like alpha-kids. They failed because they failed. And nothing more.

      That's the best analysis of the Alpha-Trolls session I've heard so far!! That would also explain why their Jack Noir didn't even appear in the comic. Their Jack was just a regular NPC enemy like it's supposed to be, it didn't get messed up in some way like the Beta or Alpha Kids session nor like Spades Slick. He was probably either beaten somehow by one of the trolls of died with the session itself, since it wasn't because of him that their session was screwed up.
      (Also btw, isn't Rufioh supposed to be half-robotic horse at that time on the timeline? Unless I'm getting confused, that's the only thing wrong with the picture.)

    Someone needs to make a fan adventure all about the ancestor's session. That would be kick ass!

    • @weirdcaster1679
      @weirdcaster1679 7 лет назад +23

      thing is, the ancestors never had a session.
      you're thinking of *D*ancestors, which would mostly consist of [S] Mituna: S4V3 3VERYON3, [S] Damara: Make them pay, and [S] Meenah: Save everyone, again.

    • @MrDarren690
      @MrDarren690 7 лет назад +17

      Honestly, the dancestor session was a catastrophic failure. Caster is right about the flashes, and I will add that anything other than that will just be bickering. The Alpha trolls were so caught up in hating themselves and each other that playing the game just slipped their mind. It's very disappointing that they failed, because as two dimensional as they are (with the exception of a couple) they seem quite interesting.

    • @MrDarren690
      @MrDarren690 6 лет назад +18

      AFAIK, they didn't even get to the battle against the Black King--I would be surprised if the composers included that theme.
      Adding on to Edenic Isotope's comment, the passive and calm nature of this reflects the Dancestor session's catastrophic failure. Apart from a rogue Witch of Time absolutely tearing apart their timeline, they were too caught up bickering each other to actually play the game and go through their respective quests. It would make sense that the song keeps building up to something that never comes.
      edit: Made it easier to read, fuck teenage texting.
