    Just because it’s a paint by numbers doesn’t mean you have no artistic freedom. No one is going to stop you from painting outside the lines or using whatever color you want. I like to use the numbers as a guide and then improvise different parts.

    • @utlo
      @utlo 3 года назад +2

      @Tomek Pluta I don't get your question. Art is highly subjective, in many ways there is no answer to what art is. If it's art to you that is all that matter.

    Yes definitely! The 26 hours was worth it, you can see the details and the painting looks more realistic. I'm glad I watched this cause now I know it depends on the artist and not the quality of the kit.

    • @CarlijnWeirdArt
      @CarlijnWeirdArt  4 года назад +4

      thank you for watching it :) And yes your patience is very important if you want to have a nice end result. I do also think the quality of the kit matters, but this one was one of the cheapest I could find and it turned out pretty! So hopefully that helps you if you decide to make a painting yourself

    I’m about a quarter done with my first paint by numbers kit. It does take a lot of time and my eyes tend to lose focus after awhile, but it is relaxing and satisfying. I was happy to see that even a non artist (like myself) made a painting that looked pretty good!

    Next time try ironing the canvas to get all the creases out before painting. Then I would use clear gesso. Then I like stretching it on stretcher bars. And finally I would add Liquitex Flow aid to the paints to make them creamier before I would paint.

    I've found that the toothpicks used to stir the paint are great to push paint into little areas on the canvas. Even smaller than the tip of the brush! I also have a very small, fine paintbrush I use that I purchased on my own, for not very much money. I have also been known to use the tip of a pin (safety pin or sewing pin) to add little details like a line through feathers in a flamingo. I think working a very blue/brown painting like your demo would be awfully depressing; I search out PNB kits that are bright colors and fun images to keep myself entertained while I work on them for hours and hours and hours :) It's nice to know through your demonstration that taking the time and effort in details does make a difference in the outcome!

I love painting but am not very good at it, but I am a slight perfectionist with a short attention span, so it is a good exercise for me.

    Just started my gorilla with Headphones paint by numbers. My eye sight isn't so great so it's quite a challenge. I use a magnifying glass and lamp. The hardest thing I've found is the paint not flowing on the canvas so I'm using palette paper to mix my paint with a few drops of water. I didn't like the smaller brushes, I've ordered a nice set online. It certainly take a long time to do, but will be worth it in the end.

    • @CarlijnWeirdArt

      Hmmm good question! The easy thing about the paint by number is that you don't have to sketch out everything. This ship had a lot of details so it would have taken a lot of time to design it. So I think the paint by number is faster for this one. Also because it would have taken me a long time to blend everything if I would have painted it normally :)

    Rough canvas - you didn't prime it. As a supposed artist you should know you have to prime a canvas. The brush you used was too large thus you weren't staying within the lines and thus the reason the details look so messy. The final product could have looked far better than the results you made. What a shame. If you only took your time and not tried to rush. It's a hobby to be enjoyed, not rushed. Your results show that you were trying too hard to rush it and not take your time to enjoy the process and paint it well with some resemblance of pride in your work. I take it when you say you are an artist, you mean you picked up a brush once or twice before, or maybe more of a sketch artist.

    I take weeks to complete one of these but they come out freaken awesome and you gotta look real close to know it’s a paint by numbers. I also change some of the colors of paints. Like when I did starry night. I didn’t like how much white was in the background so I made it a purple. I also use a tiny brush that I shape myself and bring my color past the outside lines so when I mount these there isn’t a funny business going on.
