Love the flowerbasket in the foreground! I paint with the german company "Schipper". Excellent motifs, lots of colours, no mixing and no pre-painted areas.
I have done this exact same painting and now I’ve completed 12. I’ve given 5 away to family & display the rest. They are very relaxing to do and look forward to painting every evening. I normally paint for about 2 hours per day. Depending on which one I average 50 hours per painting. I do put at least 2-3 coats of paint on each color. I find one coat just isn’t enough.
This is lovely, Calico! So I saw that you mixed two shades for the non-numbered areas. That's new to me. I finished one PBN but there were no directions on that step, so I assumed it was black. This inspired me to look into Dimensions Paint Works. Thanks!
Yes, the Dimensions kits have numbers and letters. The numbers are just the straight colors and the letters are 2 colors mixed 50/50. I highly recommend their kits!
I just subscribed because of these paint by color time lapses.. They are very enjoyable and relaxing to watch..your voice and your choice of music is very calming after a hard night as a nurse.. I repeatedly watch them because they help me unwind..Please make more of these.... 😍😍😍
Thank you for subscribing! I appreciate your kind comment and that you find it relaxing :) I don't do paint by numbers very often as my main hobby is cross stitching. However, I did just purchase an autumn PBN that I'm 'hoping' to work on in November. I'll try to get some footage of it :)
i have watched so many paint by numbers time lapse videos and most of them dont know how to do a pnb. they just overtake the line laugh dont correct the mistake but you are so good! u know how to do this and i love that! and other than that.... just spreading some love
How is it that you are getting it to blend together? I have tried to zigzag and that sometimes work my huge problem are faces. I love doing the Marie Antoinnette portraits and it looks horrible. One of them. Looks like a preschooler did it. Number one ,gray is not my choice of color that I would’ve chosen for the face but that is what it came with. It did not have a lot of detail but the picture did I’m not quite understanding how to actually blend that and it’s an actual fight every single time and sometimes I just go to another painting and don’t even finish it because I’m so agitated. Could you do a video on this please? And thank you in advance.
I'm so sorry you are having such a rough time with it. I feel that I'm not much of an expert with blending and no experience beyond the few PBN kits I did. That being said, when I had to do blending for the first time, I had to search youtube for some techniques. I found a channel that really helped and I'll try to find it. Also, I do talk a little bit about my own struggles with blending in the video I did with the Eagle. If you go to my playlists, you should find the video under Paint by Numbers. (if I link it, youtube will remove my comment) I'll try to find the other channel as well.

i, i have just bought a number paint. i would like to know how you know what colour you have to psint when it is a mixture of 2 colours. how is it indicated?
Hi! The only brand I have done that uses mixed paint is the Dimensions brand and they use letters to indicate the areas where the mixed paint goes ( you need to refer to the key to see the required 2 colors to mix. I hope that makes sense 😊
I painted this awhile ago so I can't remember exactly how I did the sky. I may have used a dry brush technique similar to the way I did it in my Eagle painting. I'm not an experienced painter so I can't give too much advice in that area 😊
The paint was clumpy in my dimensions paint set. It almost looked a little bit like cottage cheese. Did you have that same problem and if you did what did you do to get rid of the clumps?
I was just responding to your other comment, but now I see that it is a Dimensions kit. It sure sounds like it might need a thinner. Not sure what that would be, but I hope you find a solution. My paints were nice and creamy

Same here and It's frustrating. I've heard that it's a problem with most, if not all pbn kits. I try to go back after it dries and dab more paint over the number. I just bought another kit with tons of white 😜😬
Hello! By toning, do you mean how do i mix the colors? The pattern states which 2 colors to mix, then you just take roughly the same amount of each color 50/50 and mix them together. It doesn't have to be perfect for the result to look great. :)
It's been hard to find them right now because of the quarantine, but I can usually find them at local craft stores, Amazon and a website called hobbylinc(.com) Sadly, Everybody is out of stock right now :(
@@calico_whimsy there is a brand that is bad quality paint, i like the one where you have a color reference and for some you have to mix paint, and it is on cardboard, what is your experience?
Well, I'm very new to paint by numbers and have only done 4 and 3 of them were Dimensions Paint Works. I really love Dimensions, because I love that you paint on a board and it's easy to frame. Someday I'll try one that comes on a canvas but I know there are a lot of poor quality kits out there.
I can't for the life of me get my brushes to stay within the line so perfectly. I end up ordering my pain and doing paint washes and then adding several layers as I go because I evidently suck at paint by numbers.
Get some real brushes (I like Sable hair or Taklon, but I'm not an artist)... and learn how to keep them CLEAN and 'pointed' (if they're a point brush), like it's your sole mission in life. If you don't clean a brush properly, immediately after use, you might as well throw it in the trash. I like to swish them around in a small cup of paint thinner or whatever appropriate solvent (refreshing with clean solvent as necessary) until they're clean, then dip them in solvent, and 'point' them on a paper towel (you just roll the brush, as you drag it across the paper towl, so the tip forms a point). You'll figure it out, with common sense. Probably the easiest way, is to go down to your local art store and buy a small selection of different types of the same brush size/shape and see what you actually like using the best.
Try thinning the paint with a few drops of water or flow-aid. Thinner paint is MUCH easier to work with and control because it glides across the canvas more easily.
It is not as easy as it looks. I notice when paint by numbers come in a box, the numbers are easily seen. as when it does not or comes on a canvas and only numbers so small. my first craft fail.
This is exactly what we fixed when we created our kits. We eliminated the numbers altogether because either they're hard to read or they're hard to cover up. We instead color code our lines to match the color of the paint that goes in that section and we've found that it works much much better!
You can start anywhere, but just keep in mind that you don't want your arm to be sitting in the part you just painted. For me, since I'm right-handed, I like to start in the upper left or anywhere on the left side. Not sure how left -handers would do it. 😀
Do you know how many hours it took you to complete the whole thing? I'm working on one right now and I've already got 15 hours of painting in and only 3 colors done...lol
I wish I would have tracked the hours on this. I think it took roughly a month ( I can't remember) and I worked on it maybe 1-2 hours a day. Hope that helps! Are you doing a Dimensions kit?
