I'm beyond thankful to have found this video. Your concise teaching skills wrapped in charm gave me knowledge, saved me money in adapters (not to mention devices) and a lot of headaches. Wonderful Tutorial!!
This is THE video, that I keep coming back approx. 2x a year for reassurance and clarification (sadly it is needed repeatedly again and again). So big thanks and thumbs up to the author, you did really make a change for good in at least one person's life. 😊👍

Thankx FYI Some things that I've learned from some experiences: 1. If you don't have a caliper. Drill bits can be used to measure the plug size your trying to determine for purchase, if you know the size of your drill bits which is labeled in the bits storage box. 2. I've had success wiring in/connecting the DC stripped end of an old transformer to a traditional disposable battery device which as no plug for a transformer. Making the battery device, battery less for some items which needed it. Connected usually where the battery ends connect. Of course if the batteries were in series then the voltage is added all together. Often the DV voltage was a bit more than the batteries so the device runs a bit faster/stronger now which is often also nice. No longer wasting batteries and our environment and wasting your $$. I see thrift stores have old transformers for sale that could be used for this. Examples I remember, come to mind: Cat spinning in a circle under cloth chase toy, because cat would play for hours and hours and wear batteries out fast. Fuzz Balls remover shaver, because it was too slow especially as the batteries got weaker and batteries didn't last long and I had a whole sofa to go over! A table light display, because it was a cheap received xmas gift that was cute but we would never turn it on because in a few days the batteries were dead. 3. If the replacement transformer is recharging internal batteries in the device it's plugging into, you better make sure the new transformer is a perfect match and has any internal regulating electronics inside it. Also you don't want it to be overpowering and recharge the batteries too fast. This could all be a safety hazard with lithium batteries catching fire these days. Take care
Thanks, i'm guessing many folks wished they watched this before plugging in the wrong adapter and burning up their device. One thing I would add; As you mentioned, using an adapter with more AMPERAGE than the device requires, will work without ruining the device. I have noticed however that if you use an adapter with too little amperage, while the device won't get ruined, the adapter may get extremely hot and potentially ruin the adapter.
I was always intimated with electricity/knowledge and you have cleared up so much, thank you...well presented material with clear examples and I got an A on your quiz.

I am lucky I stumbled on your video. what adapter should I use for Citizen ch-453 or ch-456. What should I check besides the 6 v output; wattage? Will appreciate.
This is great! I've been trying to get a simple explanation like this ever since I burned out an ipad by using the wrong adapter (yikes!). I have a box of adapters I've collected over the years and at last I might now get them sorted. Thank you Andrew for some common sense explanation!!
Your lesson has helped me tremendously, I must have 20 power supplies that I never thru out because I didn't know what they worked with. Now I can read them, and label them with a slip of paper and clear tape over it to keep from smearing. Thank you so much.
You welcome Day Sleeper. Happy this video helped. Glad u dropped by and watch this. Do subscribe to my channel (and perhaps even buy me a cup of coffee: beyond.photos/buyandrewcoffee) Thank you and stay healthy and happy always.
Because adapters heat up in use, sticking your label on the adapter, it may come unstuck, Better to stick your label on the out put wire, both Adapter wire end and Device plug end
I hope your leasing your voice and delivery out, it's wonderful. it would be great for narration. New subscriber, and I just learned a lot from you. Thanks 👍
You explain things so simply and clearly, great video, many thanks! I just have one question please if I may. The power adapter for my NAS lists not one but two output voltages, 5V and 12V and it also says 'switching' adapter. What exactly does that mean?
My question too. I have an led light that shows 9v-16.8v. In the owners manual it lists 1a-2a. Something tells me if I plug in a 15v-2a, I will be very sorry.
Just brilliant information!! THANKS. I was wondering a couple of things though. I have a 1000A (10800mAh) charger/power bank. It has a 15V 10A dc Output jack port. What equipment could I use that for?
In to days grid feed, the power prices are rising, you said forget the top marking of the adapter? But that tells you the consumption of the adapter, No load or with the device connected, if you use Ohms Law, or did you simply not know ? PS very good video but for what very in-portent information you missed.
I think it's amazing how electronics, power adapters, plugs, etc. for the most part, they just "magically" work in our lives. There have been countless times in my life, where I'm plugging random adapters into a gadget to see if it works. I have never killed any gadgets, but now I know that's all due to luck. LOL! Never in my life had I had an issue, until recently when I tried to use one of those adjustable power adapters to turn on an old fm/am radio. The radio was working with a car adapter, but after I plugged in the adjustable adapter to play it in the house, it died. The car adapter no longer worked either. I knew something fried, but I didn't know how, until TODAY! The polarity!!!!!!! Because of this video, I went back and check the polarity of my old radio and it was NEGATIVE on the inside. I had plugged in an adapter that was POSITIVE on the inside. Never knew about this, never thought about this. This is like the Mandela effect to me. I've somehow crossed into a parallel world. This little detail about polarity did not exist in my world. LOL! Learning something new every day. Thank you very much!
@Beyond Photography I recently moved and have a few adapters I failed to label. I figured out one of them, but is there a way to figure out what the others are for? One has model # ADS18B-W 120150. I found some online for sale, but have no mention of what they're for. Can you help me here? The only thing I could think of is that it was for the router I did have. But I'm just not sure.
If ur enjoying this video, ur gonna be thrilled to actually learn the lessons with Andrew. Beyond Photography have several selection for E-Learning courses that suits ur need 😍😍😍 Channel admin Farah N 😉 😉 😉
Mr. Andrew Boey. I have an auto tire pump which operates from my cars cigarette. I want to use this pump through the 12 Volt AC adapter. I have a 12Volt adapter but it only throws out 5 Amps but the pump does not work. So I want to know how many Amps does this pump needs to operate. Thank you.
Does the polarity on an AC device have to be matching also? Or does it have to be opposite? I thought I saw a video once that had the opposite polarity, or let me ask this way, is it ever correct to have opposite polarities depending on the device, and/or adapter? thanks.
