I am South African, 78, and was in the luggage manufacturing business. To remove stubborn stains without removing the colour from the seats, leather, vinyl and plastic, we used a highly flammable Shell product called MEK. Methyl Ethyl Ketone. Bloody miraculous stuff. I also used MEK to keep the interior of my many Alfas spotless without fear of removing colour from the upholstery. Remember MEK.
Do not use MEK on interiors! I use it every day at work, it’s fine on PP or PE plastics but it melts PVC, ABS, vinyl. If you want a safe solvent for all materials use Isopropyl alcohol.
@@bmostert I am a motor car enthusiast and have owned many Alfas. Whenever I had a stubborn stain on the upholstery, I used MEK. And no colour was removed. Same in my luggage business, if there was glue on the leather or vinyl or nylon or polyester, I used MEK. For about 40 years without any problem.

Cheap as chips on Amazon and leaves the buttons perfect! Some tar and goo removers will strip the buttons of the labels. Used it for Vogues/Disco 4’s etc.

I stopped by earlier this week and looked over the RRS - really loved the colour combination and seems to represent good value for money - another good video.😊
I had an ex demo Discovery 3 TDv6 HSE with only a few miles on the clock. It was THE worst car I have ever owned. The build quality was crap from constantly blowing brake light bulbs to the boot release failing, one of the twin horns failing (it sounded like a really shit Korean car when I honked the horn). The paintwork was softer than warm butter and would scratch if I dared look at it. It wore out tyres at around 8k miles. It was brilliant for towing but for day to day use it was better, and cheaper, to fly. JLR are over rated and I will never, ever buy anything from them again. Oh and I forgot to mention that one service cost me over £800 (it was valeted but for that money I would expect a season ticker to a premier league football club). Why anyone would part with their hard earned cash on one of their shit cars is beyond me.
I'm in the car business and won't touch any Land Rover product. They have all sorts of known problems and often bite you on warranty after a sale. Easier ways to make a profit.
i always think if someone can't be arsed looking after the interior then they won't mantain the vehicle either,so worth checking out the interior before buying.
Disagree, just because I don't have time to clean it doesn't mean I'm a cheapskate and won't spend money on maintaining it. My children's safety is paramount so my car best be mechanically bob on but it doesn't need to be sparkling clean, just safe and functional to get them to and from their various outdoor pursuits.
For that sticky soft-touch material, the cheapest and easiest stuff to remove it is methylated spirit (£3 a bottle), a rag and some elbow grease. It will usually leave the plastic underneath glossy but not sticky any more. We see it a lot with electronics from that era, that otherwise work fine if not for that. It’s so annoying they continue to do this…

Maybe more than one lower arm like the S-line Audi suspensions - Main dealers can price suspension arms at probably 3 times the cost you can get the same arm with the original Manufacturer from a motor factors like GSF, ECP etc. If each arm say (4 in total) is £120 each at the motor factors - Land Rover charge for example £300 each. Prob £200 per hour labour at main stealer for 4 hours labour and that can make up the cost. This is all just an example. Ask for more detailed breakdown on the costs. If they don't want to do this take your custom elsewhere.
That grease on the buttons and surfaces apparently comes from products people use for cleaning cars. If you use the wrong products they build up to leave a sticky residue.
Auctions can bite you badly ! And if a car is over 4 years old there is a good chance it holds a dark and expensive secret ! Years ago I bought a Maestro at BCA Blackbushe -- on closer inspection everything on the car was worn out past sell by date - managed to offload it at a small loss...
These cars have had problems with spontaneously catching fire. Has it had the recall? Also the crankshafts split in half and the oil pump tends to fail. On a cold start the oil pressure should go to max in around 2 seconds. Any longer and any clattering you have the faulty oil pump design. The first 40K Km you should be ok. After that toss a coin.
Interesting that Land Rover has to use a complex and unreliable stability system to make the cars handle reasonably while the X3 and X5 handle great just due to good suspension geometry !

Thank you Sir, that was an entertaining watch, and list of components, all of which are completely useless to a Classic Defender owner, driver and fixer lol. But I wouldn't want to throw 1/2 a ton of dirty deer fencing equipment, or logs in the back of such a pristine palace. These are luxury motors with more fail points than Liz Truss, so the seat module didn't shut down properly says it all !! The new Defender is a very capable vehicle with it's stylistic nod to the past, but like a new John Deer tractor, you are disallowed to repair them yourselves. Which for a Farmer is very bad news, and for an adventurer in the wilderness or remote location a total disaster,; because you just can not fix a new Defender anywhere in the world. But you can fix or get fixed the far more rugged classic Defender, anywhere and by almost anyone! That's the real difference. Self reliance is a part of our British identity, and good on you Joe for rising to the challenge and keeping some of the more fragile Ranges going and harking a living at the same time. Your a true Brit 👍 Classic ruggedness is not what most folk want from a Rangie these days. It's a luxury cruzer and all the bells and whistles to pamper ones self esteem; and a motor that requires a satanic quantity of oil that the owner must never touch, for fear of being burned, in the fires if consumer hell lol. 6.66 Litres, you just can't make that up lol Thanks Joe 😂
Had a 3 year old 49k miles red rr purchased from a car supermarket. Second week it would not start, Car supermarket asked for it back to investigate. AA returned it. Two days later car supermarket phones me, service boss says he has just sent me an email but they would like to buy back the car and offer a 'gesture of goodwill' Email was terms & conditions of the buy back agreement. Agreed to the buy back and a significant discount off any vehicle in their 3000 on site stock. Purchased a toyota landcruiser from them, its been faultless and not red ❗ Red cars 🚫
I have an old Defender. I would NEVER buy a modern Land Rover. Unless you can fix them yourself, they are disposable items - so complex and time consuming to repair, you have to get involved with a multitude of equipment and have the knowledge. That is why they are cheap, a fact that as time goes on, there will be a market flood of these vehicles in the future.
I agree, have my 300 TDI and a 1974 S3, but these vehicles require a passion and enthusiasm with a bucket of mechanical and welding ability, competent DIY/Farmer Style. But that's not what most folk want from a Range these days. It's all the bells and whistles to pamper and a motor that requires a satanic quantity of oil that the owner must never touch for fear of being consumed in the fires if consumer hell lol. 6.66 Litres, you just can't make that up!

Thanks for being upfront about that. I insure two Freelanders wih NFU Mutual TPF&T for approx. £370 each for me and the wife for farm and domestic use incl. Classic ruggedness is not what most folk want from a Rangie these days. It's a luxury cruzer and all the bells and whistles to pamper ones self esteem; and a motor that requires a satanic quantity of oil that the owner must never touch, for fear of being burned, in the fires if consumer hell lol. 6.66 Litres, you just can't make that up lol
Thanks Joe 😂
Thats a cracking RR - colour will sell that easily, keep up the great content Joe.
Cracking podcast as usual Joe well done loving the Rangerovers
Had a 3 year old 49k miles red rr purchased from a car supermarket. Second week it would not start, Car supermarket asked for it back to investigate. AA returned it. Two days later car supermarket phones me, service boss says he has just sent me an email but they would like to buy back the car and offer a 'gesture of goodwill'
Email was terms & conditions of the buy back agreement. Agreed to the buy back and a significant discount off any vehicle in their 3000 on site stock.
Purchased a toyota landcruiser from them, its been faultless and not red ❗
Red cars 🚫
Thanks for this video, very interesting to hear the prices.

Great video , Great profit margin (if all stays well ?)Great car dealer, Great time watching the channel, Everything is just GREAT with shifting motors . Keep up the great work Joe and the team ..
Joe, I love the content and videos. It is a really nice car, and I hope it sells quickly.
You know what they say about buying cars from Birmingham… great idea, no one has ever had an issue
Clearly you're not feeling any of the issues I've heard about with insurance companies raising peoples LR or RR insurance through the roof. A mate of mine had to sell his recently as he's moved to London and was being quoted something like £500/month to insure it. Apparently they're the most desired cars to steal. I can see why as that red one looks amazing.
To be fair saying Walsall is Birmingham is like saying Berrow is western Super mare 😅 😅
Weston*
The only good thing to come out of Walsall is the M6 & the A38.
@@tonytasker489 M6 is not good especially around there 🤪
@CookieMonsterawr you want to spell it Weston, you spell it that way.
Well spell it how we want two thanks.
In fact. I'll even go the hole hog and spell it western. (And yes. All these tipos are just to pi$$ you of.
That’s an insult to Birmingham
Hey Joe, thank you for the Top Don promo code, I’ve invested in one and used it this week, fab bit of kit 👌 love your channel btw, keep up the good work 😃
Awesome, glad you’re liking it! Such good value
Bit of aftershave works well on those gunky bits you mentioned 👍
If they had fitted Toyota engines, and scrapped the idea of over complex suspension, the brand would have retained it's prestige badge.
Why you buying monster motors ?? When everyone wants cheap motoring !! Toyota aygo !! And the like !!! Great insight on your business!!! Genuine bloke !!! Fair play 🎉
Not sure they do, those sorts of cars don't sell that well with us!
There's no money to be made chasing people who want cheapness.
You are a slippery Lad Joe, dodging the bullets from Range Rover trading! long may it continue.
Joe EPB is Electronic Parking Brake derr!!!!!!!!
Would a top don be able to pair my new brake switch up with my car and how easy are they to use
Range Rovers, BMW (watched the 1 series engine failure video today) Among the most unreliable and expensive cars to fix...😳🤔
Nice looking vehicles but because of their complexity, I personally would not buy one
Hi Does that Topscan have a yearly subscription like the others?
My mate has just got his car from Walsall. By his car I mean the tracker took it to the driveway of someone who robbed it from his house and thought just changing the plates would do 😂
Not a Range Rover fan but enjoying the content.
EPB reset is Electronic Parking Brake 😁
Hey, I saw the range was in a spot of bother on the M5 today. So close to getting home.
Wayne would try a magic sponge from b&m to remove sticky switches
What a great video, interesting cut in’s drone shots good graphics a well thought out video, and you managed to make money from British car auctions, not an easy task to do 👍
I had a supercharged 5 ltr V8 sport what a bag of sh$t when i worked was so fast but spent more time in the work shop than on the road was so happy when I sold it bought a new ford ranger had it for 3 years now and not had any problems with it at all
Big risk with those RRS, especially the higher mileage 3.0 diesels. Don’t get me wrong, lovely motor but if i was a trader i wouldn’t touch them.
Hey Joe, watched back a couple of times, can’t find the link for OBD scanner discount code…
Great presentation and breakdown of costs.
Hi, what was the name of the stuff to clean the sticky stuff off the switchgear ? I have replayed it a dozen times but not quite getting the product you mentioned. Thanks
Jelsol from Autosmart 👍
@@ShiftingMetal Many thanks Joe
Luckily the Range Rovers will probably be nicked before any faults occur and it would take a brazen thief to try and make a claim.
"They were talking Chinese to me" 🤣. 6.66 litres of oil....you'll have a devil of a job getting that right.😁
“I’m in a really bad place right now ; my mental health is fine, it’s just I’m in Walsall…”
😂
😂
Last time I was in the U.S.A. , I was ina terrible state . I'll never go to South Dakota again .
Do you have to pay subscription for the topdon diagnostic reader?
No subscription 👍
can anyone divulge where the are getting reasonable insurance deals from as i have tried everywhere for rates for a 21 plate HST and i cant get it less than £3300 . Even the Land Rovers own insurance comes in at nearly £4000.
Thanks for being upfront about that. I insure two Freelanders wih NFU Mutual TPF&T for approx. £370 each for me and the wife for farm and domestic use incl. RAC cover and the NFU advise they wil not offer cover for RR "because they get stolen a lot". I appreciate it's not terribly helpful, but it puts it in context. Greetings from Pembrokeshire.
When I was a kid growing up in rural west country I thought wow when I would see a range rover on a country lane. Now when I see one I truly pity the owner and I worry about his family, can they still afford food, will it cause a marriage break up?
EPB = Electronic Parking Brake
The silver vehicle, I would love to have .
Nice video mate great value 😅
MDRS Automotive For Range Rovers all day long, they know everything about them.
