Every time you said S2 holds up pretty well, I couldn't help but the think how many mavic 3 owners out there having buyers remorse? For us filmmakers, we welcome softer images.
Very useful comparison, very well done, especially for night shots which are more elaborate to fly in winter conditions. Big thank you for taking the time to make it. I'm an AIR 2S flyer, and I did not jump to buy the Mavic 3 but preferred to wait for the Mavic 3S (or the Air 2S Pro/Air 3) to be released - I'll upgrade first my MAC to the M2 chip when Apple releases it. I do not understand why the Mavic 3 has dual-lens, adding to its weight and price. The biggest advantage of the Mavic 3 is flying time, and if it had a single 4/3" lens it will be lighter, fly even longer, and be cheaper. In case of an accidental drop to the ground, the probability of damaging the Mavic 3 gimbal is a lot more than the AIR 2S because it is 150% heavier. The problem with the RC Pro smart controller is that its screen is smaller than my iPhone 12. I believe that the AIR 2S is the best quad released in 2021 in terms of quality features at an affordable price and that there will be future iterations of the Mavic 3 to make it more marketable. Finally, I went through a bunch of "comparisons" and everywhere they compare at most 1-2 shots, and even this can be not exactly the same light conditions. All the bloggers want to blabla on camera, but almost do not make useful comparisons. Thank you very much for the detailed review with real shots. What I still miss is the comparison its wide-angle distortion on urban geometry - in real frames you almost never shoot on horizon, the camera looks down and building geometry is heavily skewed. At 22mm (as its named by dji) the air 2s clearly shows this more than my last m2pro (28mm) and I wonder how it is with the m3 (24) Also - midnight shots are useful to compare under equal conditions but in reality we shoot night city at "blue hour" when it's not so dark yet - interesting to see the difference in those conditions. Great comparo! I guess the real point is it really depends on what the photo or footage is going to be used for and it's a motivation for M3 owners to use the manual adjustments more to get the best use of it.

In the comparisons I have clearly seen that the drone is Mavic 3 and Air 2S. I have had Mavic 2 Pro, Mavic Air 2, Inspire 2 and currently I have Mavic 3. For me the difference is clear and very big. Comparing Mavic 3 to Air 2S is a mistake. You can compare Mavic 3 to Inspire 2 to Zenmuse X5S, and in many ways the Mavic 3 is a winner. I have decided to have the Mavic 3 Cine to replace my Inspire 2 and am satisfied with the results. All the best
Well... I don't think that it's a mistake to compare them. The idea of this video is to show people for what purposes these drones are made and what they can expect in low light. The test shows that The air 2s is more hobby friendly by still being a pretty powerful drone, but the Mavic 3 is more tended to the "prosumers". And not everyone is that knowledgeable about drones. Some might see a new shiny toy and they might just buy it and see worse results in low light shots...(if they shoot in auto) And then they might complain in the forums... So... Then there is this video. :D But yeah, If I would have an Inspire 2 with the x5s laying down somewhere I would definitely compare them too. :) All the best to you too! :)

To me, the auto low-light of the air 2s is wayyyy better than the air 2. Mavic 3 does look better after denoise, but given the price difference between the two, I think air 2s is a better choice for most ppl.
Excellent. Just perfect! I crashed my air 2 and thought of replacing it with 2s cause my extra batteries are compatible and would not need the fly more combo. I know the 3 cmos is better but wasn’t sure by how much to justify the extra $2k over the 2s. Well, now I know: going for the 2s and wait for 4 pro(?)… 😜
Excellent video! Still way impressed with the Air 2S and how it handles low light conditions. It's still a beast! I would have expected better results from the Mavic 3 considering the larger sensor and it's supposed to be a much more more complex drone. It will be interesting to see how the Mavic 3 improves with updated firmwares in the future.
A 1" sensor has an area of 116 mm2, while the MFT in the Mavic 3 has an area of 225 mm2. A 35mm camera has an image sensor of 860 mm2. The Air 2s and Mavic 3 sensors are much closer to each other than a full frame camera. This video demonstrates clearly what happens when you push the cameras in these drones beyond their limits. This is consistent with my Mavic 3 experience. If you shoot at the highest bitrate in log and spend time editing, you can get something that looks superior to a cell phone video. The Air 2s is the move if you want to shoot-and-share, but it won't ever look better than a modern cell phone video.
@@saramdipm Thank you, great information! I don't ever see drone cameras (consumer grade drones) getting to same quality as a DSLR or cellphone camera. We have seen advances in drone cameras but when it comes down to it, weight and electronics are going to be the limiting factors for drones. They as well as we want long flying drones so sacrifices will be made and I fear the camera will always be the loser.

I have both and absolutely prefer the M3 over my A2S, so much so I haven't flow the little fella since the arrival of his big brother. Hi, beautiful comparison, great videos, technically very well done, especially the dynamic ones along the bridge; the quality of the Mavic 3 is sometimes more noticeable, but it costs twice as much as the AIR2 S, so the result is almost obvious, but in my opinion not so clear as to justify such a large investment. In my opinion, the purchase of the Mavic3 is justified only for business reasons. Again great compliments for the professionalism of your video comparison.
Yeah, as I said, it’s only for people who know what they are doing. For those who will capture in d-log and color grade the footage to get the absolute most out of that device. Not really meant for hobbyists. And because I earn my money with drone flying I see this investment as a reasonable investment. :) Thank you!

Thanks for this comparison! In my opinion M3 is overpriced. If we look at price we expect doubled spec and quality of images. Ok, there is a difference between A2S 20 MP and M3 48 MP sensor by looking at numbers. For me price difference should be around 30% percents based on my subjective feelings. A2S is a very good choice for fair price :)
I would like to see side by side comparisons between the Mavic 2 Pro & Mavic 3 in low light. The Mavic 3 is suppose to be the replacement for the Mavic 2 Pro, but hardly anyone does that comparison.
For that price, M3 should be really 2-3x better, but its only slightly better. Air2s really did good for 1/3 of the cost of an M3. That price for performance ratio is very acceptable.
You make fantastically good comparisons in an understandable way. Nicely composed videos. I myself have the air 2, air 2s and the mini 2 but see that I don't need to invest in the mavic 3. What camera do you use to record the drones flying so nicely close? I like the depth of field, slowmo and minimum photo distance there. Curious what camera you use for that.
I have the Air2s and was able to easily able to pick the Air2s images out. The M3P has richer color and stronger contrast. That’s why I’m selling my Air2s.
@@CbusRon Hey there. The Air2s is a great drone. My issue is that I am very picky and I know when I see a “better” imagery. My job is totally focused on imagery and I want the best within a certain price range the Mavic 3 Pros price is weakest point of the drone, it’s worth it, but ouch. I don’t want to discourage from getting a great drone in the Air2s. That being said, the images from the Mavic 3 Pro are more true to life in color, contrast, and there is lot more detail in the highlights and the shadows. In video also has the same attributes plus a higher bitrate to work with. Simply put, it’s a better drone, even in the flying it’s stronger in the air, more precise in its movements. I also find the tracking is better. I could go on and on. But again, the Air2s is a great drone as well.
I don’t take anytime to do post production. If it can’t do in auto what it advertises I always send it back. So far my favorite drone is Air 2S. My favorite drone as far as epic flying is by far the DJI FPV. On vacation you should never need to waste time to do post production. Also the Air 2S is better for travel. The Mavic 3 also jumped around and wouldn’t get through fast enough close obstacles for tracking so it would ruin the shot more times than the Air 2S. Also the price of the Mavic 3 you could buy a Air 2S and a backup Air 2S.
I knew which one was the mavic right away. I don't understand how you thought the footage was bad. There's less noise with the Air 2s because it's smudging it out. The details are gone.
Mavic 3 fov is narrower (24 mm equivalent vs 22 mm equivalent). Because of that, it is expected that you will see more details on the mavic 3. We are comparing appel with oranges.
So should I compare mavic 2 pro to mavic 2 pro? :D I think the sensor size and incresed resolution also has to do alot with the difference in detail! :)

There is no video about Mavic3 vs hero11. can you do that? I mean, why the heck dji forces buyers to use his camera, sell mavic without camera, people already have all range of action cameras.
Not really shocking. The Air 2S has a 1 inch sensor (12.8x9.6mm) and the Mavic 3 has a MFT (17.3x13mm). Considering that both pack 20 MP on such the adjacent surfaces, a single pixel on the 2S is ~2.4 micrometers in size, whereas a single pixel in the Mavic 3 is around 3.3 micrometers. Simply the size dictates how much light you need based on the pixel size on the sensor to get an equaly exposed image on both cameras, namely with larger pixels you don't need as much light to get the same or similarly exposed image. Further there's different in the lens, the software and how it processes the image plus the option to record in lossless formats and so on. There's a reason why certain things are more expensive.

All of us know what we are doing and can make the Mavic 3 look great but to me it lies about what it does. A drone should do what it advertises on the box without post production. The Mavic 3 went back because I only want a drone that I don’t need post production for. I want to share footage straight from the drone app and be ready to fly again. I’m not giving extra post production time while overseas. Most people don’t fly at night as I have noticed also but the Air 2S does great enough at night for anyone and for anyone who knows what they are doing.
When it comes to a professional environment there is always post-production needed for color grading and all that. Mavic 3 is made for that. If you are not a professional then Mavic 3 is totally not for you. Then I can agree to you. But If you think that you can capture in Normal color mode and full auto settings in a professional environment, then we are from two different worlds.
@@TheSkyHighFilms I will buy an actual professional drone that you can swap out lenses and cameras with before I’ll buy another Mavic 3. The Inspire 2 or even when the Inspire 3 comes out. I’m sure the Autel Evo 3 will be called a professional drone too and it might be if it has a camera and lens that can be switched out. In all honesty I’m sure the Mavic 3 is the drone to skip and the Autel Evo 3 is the one to buy this round. Which sucks because I’ve always bought DJI and the Mavic 3 is the first drone I’ve ever sent back.
I know it is freezing cold out there in Riga but based on this current video can you put Air 2 and Mini 2 in this same low light and compare all 4 of them … It is is clear who is the best but just from curiosity I wonder if the difference between Air 2 in HDR vs Air 2s will be close and if the Mini 2 enough in low light ;)
Barely freezing with no frost in trees etc. And there's no comparison to these two: Sensor of Air 2 is the quarter of size of 1" sensor in Air 2S.. And sensor in Minis is even smaller. (+likely older)
@@tuunaes once I mount (custom mount it will be) the Air 2 anamorphic filter on the Mini 2 even @SkyHighFilms will be happy to see the results ;) … I just received the filters today so I bought spare one just to be dedicated for the Mini 2 testing ;)
Air2s all the way! If a drone that's twice the price of a drone and most of the times you cannot tell the difference and the cheaper one outperforms the costlier one in some occasions, then we all know which one to buy. I am so glad I purchased DJI AIR 2S. It is a beast and it is more affordable and portable. There's a no brainer if you don't want to burn your money.
i can agree and also not. Depends on your needs. you know in the camera industry it's the same. You can pay 1k for a good camera that can get really great images if you know how to use it, but for 20 - 50k you can get a camera that can do all that but slightly better if you know how to use it. Well slightly in eyes of regular people. For professionals, they will always see the difference in the image. Of course you can get similar images as arri alexa using canon m50 with magic lantern, but there are limitations. You pay more for extra freedom. you pay more for that extra bit of quality that people will feel, but they might not see it. But yeah, if we are talking just about some social media content... then air2s is king. In other types of scenarios mavic 3 will beat it - if you know how to use it.
I wish I could, but I don’t have the time to make them. I barely can make these videos and do my other work related things. Subtitles currently are out of my reach. If you know someone who can help with that… I would be happy to know.
Mistake was from DJi company, thay shouldn't realease AIR 2 S, other ways i dont see a point to pay so much more money For MAVIC 3 if night time video and photo are quiet simillar.. Everybody was waiting from DJI mavic 3 360 degress obstical avoidance, and it's still shit even in so expencive drone like MAVIC 3. Skydio 2, was released 2 y ago, and he 's doing 3 times better same tasks. ) I will wait for Mavic Air 3. By the way i have Mavic Air 2 and HDR MODE is just magic on that drone ) I love to fly in it. But what i need, i need perfect tracking and 360 degress obsticle avoidance, + at least 40 min fly time..hopefully in Air 3 will be all that, and will be nice price. For Me Air 2 is the best Non commercial drone made yet since first Mavic was released.
In the professional world when things get better the price goes up way higher even if the improvements are not so significate... It's just how it is. + DJI is kinda like apple. They can ask premium prices for their products as they own the market right now. Not saying that it's good, but that's just how it is.

Air 2S can be distinguished by the soft and noisy frame corners. Mavic 3 is little brighter and sharper at night.

Thanks for this comparison! In my opinion M3 is overpriced. If we look at price we expect doubled spec and quality of images. Ok, there is a difference between A2S 20 MP and M3 48 MP sensor by looking at numbers. For me price difference should be around 30% percents based on my subjective feelings. A2S is a very good choice for fair price :)
I would like to see side by side comparisons between the Mavic 2 Pro & Mavic 3 in low light. The Mavic 3 is suppose to be the replacement for the Mavic 2 Pro, but hardly anyone does that comparison.

For that price, M3 should be really 2-3x better, but its only slightly better. Air2s really did good for 1/3 of the cost of an M3. That price for performance ratio is very acceptable.
I wouldn't say that it's slightly better. It's quite better if you invest some time into tweaking the shots! :)
I returned my Mavic 3. It wasn't worth the 3x's more of a price tag. 1000$ vs 3500$.. Anyways. Always love your vids buddy!

You make fantastically good comparisons in an understandable way. Nicely composed videos. I myself have the air 2, air 2s and the mini 2 but see that I don't need to invest in the mavic 3. What camera do you use to record the drones flying so nicely close? I like the depth of field, slowmo and minimum photo distance there. Curious what camera you use for that.
I used the SONY A7C with sirui anamorphic lenses. withs some diopters to get closer! :)

I have the Air2s and was able to easily able to pick the Air2s images out. The M3P has richer color and stronger contrast. That’s why I’m selling my Air2s.
I’m thinking about getting an air 2s or an M3 but why are you selling your? Do you think the price difference is worth it?
@@CbusRon Hey there. The Air2s is a great drone. My issue is that I am very picky and I know when I see a “better” imagery. My job is totally focused on imagery and I want the best within a certain price range the Mavic 3 Pros price is weakest point of the drone, it’s worth it, but ouch. I don’t want to discourage from getting a great drone in the Air2s. That being said, the images from the Mavic 3 Pro are more true to life in color, contrast, and there is lot more detail in the highlights and the shadows. In video also has the same attributes plus a higher bitrate to work with. Simply put, it’s a better drone, even in the flying it’s stronger in the air, more precise in its movements. I also find the tracking is better. I could go on and on. But again, the Air2s is a great drone as well.
I don’t take anytime to do post production. If it can’t do in auto what it advertises I always send it back. So far my favorite drone is Air 2S. My favorite drone as far as epic flying is by far the DJI FPV. On vacation you should never need to waste time to do post production. Also the Air 2S is better for travel. The Mavic 3 also jumped around and wouldn’t get through fast enough close obstacles for tracking so it would ruin the shot more times than the Air 2S. Also the price of the Mavic 3 you could buy a Air 2S and a backup Air 2S.
I knew which one was the mavic right away. I don't understand how you thought the footage was bad. There's less noise with the Air 2s because it's smudging it out. The details are gone.

Mavic 3 fov is narrower (24 mm equivalent vs 22 mm equivalent). Because of that, it is expected that you will see more details on the mavic 3. We are comparing appel with oranges.

I think the sensor size and incresed resolution also has to do alot with the difference in detail! :)

I personally use Premiere pro, but Davinci resolve works great too! But for photos, Lightroom. Definitely Lightroom!

Not really shocking. The Air 2S has a 1 inch sensor (12.8x9.6mm) and the Mavic 3 has a MFT (17.3x13mm). Considering that both pack 20 MP on such the adjacent surfaces, a single pixel on the 2S is ~2.4 micrometers in size, whereas a single pixel in the Mavic 3 is around 3.3 micrometers. Simply the size dictates how much light you need based on the pixel size on the sensor to get an equaly exposed image on both cameras, namely with larger pixels you don't need as much light to get the same or similarly exposed image. Further there's different in the lens, the software and how it processes the image plus the option to record in lossless formats and so on. There's a reason why certain things are more expensive.

All of us know what we are doing and can make the Mavic 3 look great but to me it lies about what it does. A drone should do what it advertises on the box without post production. The Mavic 3 went back because I only want a drone that I don’t need post production for. I want to share footage straight from the drone app and be ready to fly again. I’m not giving extra post production time while overseas. Most people don’t fly at night as I have noticed also but the Air 2S does great enough at night for anyone and for anyone who knows what they are doing.
When it comes to a professional environment there is always post-production needed for color grading and all that. Mavic 3 is made for that. If you are not a professional then Mavic 3 is totally not for you. Then I can agree to you. But If you think that you can capture in Normal color mode and full auto settings in a professional environment, then we are from two different worlds.
@@TheSkyHighFilms I will buy an actual professional drone that you can swap out lenses and cameras with before I’ll buy another Mavic 3. The Inspire 2 or even when the Inspire 3 comes out. I’m sure the Autel Evo 3 will be called a professional drone too and it might be if it has a camera and lens that can be switched out. In all honesty I’m sure the Mavic 3 is the drone to skip and the Autel Evo 3 is the one to buy this round. Which sucks because I’ve always bought DJI and the Mavic 3 is the first drone I’ve ever sent back.

I know it is freezing cold out there in Riga but based on this current video can you put Air 2 and Mini 2 in this same low light and compare all 4 of them … It is is clear who is the best but just from curiosity I wonder if the difference between Air 2 in HDR vs Air 2s will be close and if the Mini 2 enough in low light ;)

And there's no comparison to these two:
Sensor of Air 2 is the quarter of size of 1" sensor in Air 2S..
And sensor in Minis is even smaller. (+likely older)
@@tuunaes once I mount (custom mount it will be) the Air 2 anamorphic filter on the Mini 2 even @SkyHighFilms will be happy to see the results ;) … I just received the filters today so I bought spare one just to be dedicated for the Mini 2 testing ;)

Air2s all the way! If a drone that's twice the price of a drone and most of the times you cannot tell the difference and the cheaper one outperforms the costlier one in some occasions, then we all know which one to buy.
I am so glad I purchased DJI AIR 2S. It is a beast and it is more affordable and portable. There's a no brainer if you don't want to burn your money.
i can agree and also not. Depends on your needs. you know in the camera industry it's the same. You can pay 1k for a good camera that can get really great images if you know how to use it, but for 20 - 50k you can get a camera that can do all that but slightly better if you know how to use it. Well slightly in eyes of regular people. For professionals, they will always see the difference in the image. Of course you can get similar images as arri alexa using canon m50 with magic lantern, but there are limitations. You pay more for extra freedom. you pay more for that extra bit of quality that people will feel, but they might not see it.
But yeah, if we are talking just about some social media content... then air2s is king. In other types of scenarios mavic 3 will beat it - if you know how to use it.

Mistake was from DJi company, thay shouldn't realease AIR 2 S, other ways i dont see a point to pay so much more money For MAVIC 3 if night time video and photo are quiet simillar.. Everybody was waiting from DJI mavic 3 360 degress obstical avoidance, and it's still shit even in so expencive drone like MAVIC 3. Skydio 2, was released 2 y ago, and he 's doing 3 times better same tasks. ) I will wait for Mavic Air 3. By the way i have Mavic Air 2 and HDR MODE is just magic on that drone ) I love to fly in it. But what i need, i need perfect tracking and 360 degress obsticle avoidance, + at least 40 min fly time..hopefully in Air 3 will be all that, and will be nice price. For Me Air 2 is the best Non commercial drone made yet since first Mavic was released.
Skydio's only strength is that autonomy and it lacks good quality camera.

In the professional world when things get better the price goes up way higher even if the improvements are not so significate... It's just how it is. + DJI is kinda like apple. They can ask premium prices for their products as they own the market right now. Not saying that it's good, but that's just how it is.
