Mamby was a fighter who truly earned his title the hard way. He fought killers when he started out and way before he was fully ready for them but gave all of them tough fights. He also was robbed in his first title shot against Muangsurin. The man had 34 career losses but I heard that a good dozen were robberies and he had multiple losses when he was in his 40's. He was only knocked out once, by Derrell Coley when he was 45. Very underrated fighter. He was a true champion.

By 1980 Cervantes was coked up and basically shot; even so he put Pryor on his ass and was winning before sufferng a nasty cut. I think Mamby might well have beaten Cervantes at that point, and I believe he'd have done Pryor in, too. I don't think Pryor wanted anything to do with Sweet Saoul.

I just saw a few minutes of it just now...been looking for mambys fights. Sadly not to many exist except the ones when he was on primetime TV

He DID beat Mamby (by decision); what a shame we never saw him against Saensak Muangsurin (whom I expect he would have stopped).
I don't think Cervantes would have beaten Mamby by 1980, when this fight took place.
