An entire year spent on this system just goes to show how refined tank combat is. Thank you for this and I hope your video gets the attention of everyone including the devs.
Wait APDS has a more likely chance for ricochet? Why? Also in real life, it was found the HE filler in APHE had little to no effect for less overall penetration. At least this is what tests concluded.
IRL tank crews bail out the moment their tanks get penetrated rather than fighting to the death. BUT in squad 44 most people don't ever bail unless a part is broken and needs repairs quickly. So APHE does matter more in some cases were you need more spall not just pen. APDS has a higher chance to ricochet on somewhat sloped surface probably due to balancing idk.
@ HE filler was found to not be all that much more effective if at all vs solid AP. Not because “Crews Bail Out Syndrome”. But they did field tests. Dummies don’t bail. Not to mention I’ve seen Sherman crews bail out from Tiger and Panther hits. If HE filler was that much of a god like it is in game. They’d never survive that. Overall, for balancing reason. APHE needs a nerf for a meta shake up or something… Edit: Wrong game I’m speaking about lol. But most of what I said applies.
It actually does work very well. The thing most players don't understand is that you need to press and HOLD it. If you press mouse 1 several times, it doesn't work. As for the full footage, all sources are posted in the description!
A slight correction, one of the modders has let me know that as far as they know, theres no set armour values for engine blocks themselves. That being said, they still stop rounds and spalling as if they do have a value, so there's really no difference ingame.
None of the mechanics for tanks themselves have changed with the new update, so everything from this video is still relevant! Just more tanks to play around with now.

fact of the matter is the armor system is fucked yesterday i shot a tiger 1 going down the road i was on 4 times in the ass with no angle at all it then proceeded to turn around and kill my firefly in one shot today a fucking puma survived 5 rounds from our pershing as it was circling us and then it one shot us from the front then we came up to it in a jackson and hit it 3 times again and the only thing that saved us was that our commander had jumped out and gotten on the outside 50 cal and that actually destroyed the puma in about 25 rounds armor system is not realistic and very buggy, sadly, squad 44 is the only real ww2 game where you can play a realistic tank experience
@@tavish4699 the puma has some pretty big bugs with its side armour eating rounds, so that doesn't surprise me. A lot of bugs still exist from our year long abandonment so it's a wip As for the tiger, it's important to remember shooting the rear won't do anything after the first couple shots, because your shell and spall is being eaten by the engine block. Once you disable the engine, your best off trying a side shot or a shot to the back of the turret.
@@agreenarrow yea i know what you wrote about the tiger, the problem was that our 17 ounder shells didnt even disable the engine it just turned around and killed us

It has similar mechanics yes, Both games attempt to model real life. Warthunder does so in a much more arcadey way however, where every round has potential to one hit kill. Squad 44 is more realistic in that the amount of damage caused by a hit depends on the size of the shell and the type used.
I'd argue it's more realistic. Tank doesn't combust upon crew death. It's more interactive. The tank crewmen are actually real people. You have to get out of the tank to repair and extinguish. You don't just recruit a random tank crewman from the nearby village when you lose one, you have to go without one or go back to a spawnpoint and retrieve your old one.
Squad44 realistic? Not so much. During Market Garden there was NO allied armour north of the Rhine. And also NO US troops. The game should respect that.
@@klassieker2834 Market garden maps have over 50 layers, not every one of them needs to be historically accurate in my opinion. It's fine to have a little fun, especially when the majority are historically accurate

If i shoot some rounds from the tank will the ammo rack get smaller or have a lower chance of exploding?
