I can't get this to work at all. I connected my a74 to my ipad via wifi and it shows up on C1 but the camera is greyed out. I tap the 3 dots and tap connect and nothing happens. Can't figure out what the problem is. Quite frustrating.
@BillStreeter - Try this work around - Go to menu: Network, Network Option, Access Authen. Settings and turn off. After that it worked for me with no problem...
@@SimonSonghurst it says on Sony a7iv impossible to turn it off if connected
Go back to Pc remote and turn it off. Now go back go network and turn auth off. Now go back and turn on pc remote
Thank you so much for showing that. ive been shooting tethered . did not know it could do wireless. im so hyped to try this out on my next gig! capture 1 is the best!! i cant belive Adobe have not done this for lightroom >.
Hi Simon, In Capture one for Ipad using the Sony A71V, is the Histogram displayed on the Ipad app derived from the actual captured Raw file or from a simulated jpeg.
I know the camera lcd displays a simulated jpeg from the Raw file, is the Ipads displayed histogram exactly the same.
I would be most grateful for your opinion on this question, thank you
Simon Great video .. Thank you! My only question is I had a " LiveView " button under the Shutter button in the IPad that let me see a LIVE view of the set. For some reason, today when I was shooting I couldn't see the "LiveView' Button. Am I doing something wrong ???
Thank you Simin. This is excellent video showing the capabilities with iPad. Very helpful.
Have you tried connecting iPhone 15 Pro or similar to iPad? I an just about to try it. It looks like it only currently supports tetheing not wifi.
@tbcuthbert - Glad the video was of help. I don't have an iPhone 15 so not been able to try that yet. Works perfectly with and iPad pro though as in the video.
Great video Simon. Is it stable enough to use for a professional shoot? or do you still shoot with cable? I have been using the Sony app, and it always disconnects and does not automatically reconnect, which makes it unusable. If this works flawlessly, then maybe it's time to invest in an iPad and Capture one
Hi Rani, I've started using it wirelessly on shoots recently and will continue as it's not let me down yet. Just need Apple to release a bigger iPad and Capture One to implement live view, and then it will be perfect. One bonus to shooting wireless also is that you can have an external battery hooked up and charging the ipad throughout the shoot. Will be making and posting a vid on my shoot station setup soon.
Question, can you connect two cameras at once? (using a dock usbc3.1 or even wirelessly) Thanks in advanced.
Another question which you may have answered but ill ask. When these photos are coming in am I right in thinking you can create a preset for them to automatically process so you see something nearer to the final result. thanks Simon
Hi Simon, this is the best video on you tube for wirelessly tethering Sony A7 to Ipad with capture one for Ipad.
I have a Sony A71V and have been wirelessly tethering it to Capture One for Ipad for some time now using wifi direct.
However, I recently uploaded v2.00 firmware and now I have big problems, I can't tether wirelessly, the firmware has changed the setup for wifi direct.
If you have v2.00 firmware loaded, can you please explain the problems I currently have, many thanks
Hi Mike, Thanks for your comment. I have a fix for the issue you are having from a previous video I posted. , Go to menu: Network, Network Option, Access Authen. Settings and turn off. After that it worked for me with no problem... Let me know it worked all ok.
Thanks Simon, that worked. When you select WiFi Direct it invites you to disable all other Networks, best do this.
What confused me was when the camera displays the SSID info, it suggests you connect with the QR code. Just ignore this, go to Ipad settings, select the SSID name when it appears.
Now open Capture one app and connect via the 3 dots in the camera tab.
Thanks for the vide0, I do have a couple of questions, what are the models of iPad that work, does the 3rd generation iPad Pro's work pretty good and How long is the distant you can use wirelessly out doors more or less with out losing connection. I imagine in a City it would be less than out of the city, but do you have any experience as to the distance that it would work fine? Like 50 meters away let's say for an example which would be pretty much a maximum distance I might be away from my clients shooting on certain occasions..? Thanks. I am looking at getting a refurbished iPad Pro and eyeing the 11 inch Pro 3rd generation for example... Which does have wifi and USBc so I imagine it would well good enough.
@ekphotography - The max distance I've worked this set up is around 10 meters. I'm sure it can go further but I have no need to be that far away from the previews. I'm using it on a 12.9 M2 ipad which works flawlessly.
Hi is this possible on Fuji GFX ? If so would love a tutorial. Would like to shoot jpegs to ipad and raw to card.
@orlandonoa If you are able to loan me a GFX then I would be more than happy to produce a tutorial as requested. I will be making another with the X-T4 at some point soon.
Will the wireless lower res jpg be good enough to check focus? Are they reduced in resolution? My main goal is to check for motion blur etc, as it's so often my A7Riv camera has motion blur, even with high shutterspeed and on a tripod etc.
The 2mb files are actually pretty good for focus checking. Are you shooting flash or available light? Not had any issues myself with my A7RIV and motion blur on higher shutter speeds. Could be a flash duration issue??
great video (in general) ! ;) one Q: Is it possible to shoot JPG's tethered into C1 and doing a selection what later can be transfered on the RAW files. My Idea... shooting an event tethered and work on the selection already during the event in smaller breakes....) thx already - let me know! :)
This would be my solution. Shoot Jpegs wirelessly to the iPad, Save Raws to the camera cards, Push the Jpegs to Moodcase between shots, save Raws to C1 on laptop/desktop. Once you've made your selection in @moodcase_io then it will list all the file names together which you can copy and paste inside C1 to get all of the Raws. Hope that helped.
@@SimonSonghursthow easy of a process is this? I’ve never used capture one or moodcase. Looking at tethering, preferably wirelessly, to improve sports photography workflows and being able to show clients.
Hello 👋 is there a live view on the iPad ? Thank you 🙏🏻
Not yet but hopefully coming soon.
Thanks for the video Simon. I have been using capture one on my Mac wirelessly to see pics immediately as I shoot them. Today I bought an iPad and I cannot get the wireless connection (direct) to work with my A74. Only reason I purchased the iPad was for this 😢 so bummed.
@zakiradi450 Try this - Go to menu: Network, Network Option, Access Authen. Settings and turn off. After that it worked for me with no problem. Let me know if it worked ok.
@@SimonSonghurst I have security IPSec in there but not access authen. I switched it on and off. But no use. Also updated the camera to 1.05 but didn't help :(
Geht es mit i ped und Sony 7rII und live View funktioniert auch mit captur one App ? Kann man auch wie in der destop Version Masken anlegen in der App zb. ???
No live view on the iPad as yet. Hopefully coming soon. Not sure about Sony A7Rii as I have the A7RIV. Also no masks yet in the app. Hope that helps.
I have a A7iii snd yhe PC remote is not there on the menu anyone know why? Using Ver 3.0
Interesting! Does anyone know how this compares to the CamRanger2?
This is far more of a stable setup than CamRanger. Highly recommend trying it.
Great video. Does Lightroom support tethering?
Not on the iPad as yet but it's does for Canon and Nikon with the classic desktop version. There are work around to tether for other camera brands.
I dont see the pc remote function in my sonya7riii
Hi Simon, can you please help me. I would appreciate a quick reply as I have an upcoming Photoshoot in a day or two.
My C1 app has just changed. When I connect via a cable it beeps and only shows my camera name under the Import Tab, not under the Connect tab as previously. Clicking the up or down arrow next to the Connect Name tab does not do anything, very confusing.
If I click on the Connect tab itself it takes me to a first time user screen which I don't understand. Also my wireless connection used to work but it doesn't any longer. Can you please explain what's happening.
My wireless tether no longer works also.
I was happy before these changes.
Michael
@MikeT-yy3 - Hi Michael, Sorry for the delayed reply. Yes very frustrating with the new update. I don't have wireless connection on either my A7RIV or A7IV. They are both working fine hard wired but the name is greyed out in wireless mode. Hopefully they address this soon.
Hi, I’ve been using wired tethering like you but I have used a regular iPad type c cable about 3 feet long, the app says you can’t use cables longer than 9 feet, I tried a regular 9 feet cable and it didn’t work. What’s the length of the tether pro cable you were using in this video?
In the video I'm using a 5m Tether Tools cable. You can go longer but you'll need a repeater cable to boost the signal.
When shooting wireless and the client is looking through images, does it slow your camera down or act any differently than if you went weathering to it? What happens if the client walks off with iPad out of wireless range? Will you still be able to shoot then when it comes back in range it’ll automatically transfer the images? When it transfers the images does it slow your camera down or anything?
Not had any of those issues yet. I do mostly have the iPad mounted next to me so it doesn't go walkabout. When tethered if there is a disconnection it will then push new images once reconnected. So happy we finally have Live View now!
Will the Sony a7r work with this. I just tried to follow the steps but I don't see those menu.... HELP please.
I'm pretty sure that the A7R isn't supported as it's almost over 10 years since release. Will work though by offloading cards into C1 on the iPad. Let me know if you find a work around.
If I have my camera shooting in portrait mode and I want to use all of the screen on the IPad. If rotate the iPad, will capture one rotate as well?
Yes absolutely works perfectly if you rotate for portrait images. Software rotates also FYI.
Hello !! Is posible use for Sony a6400 ?? Thank you
You can only tether hard wired with the Sony A6400. No wireless support yet.
I cant get this to work. For first time connection, my captureone app keeps showing that i need the apple adapter to make it work. I bought the adapter but still, my sony camera still not detected.
Have you had any better luck with recent updates? Which camera are you using?
I shoot using a wired tether to C1 into an iPAD pro but this Didn't work for me using a Sony A74. I set the connection up but the camera is grayed out even though it appears in capture one. After a minutes or so, I get signed out of C1 and it says the servers haven't contacted the app in 30 days and I need to reauthenticate.
I've tried to replicate the same issue but had no luck. What firmware version are you on in the A74? Personally, if you haven't done already I would delete the app and reinstall then make sure your firmware is all up to date. Let me know if you find a fix.
Slightly unrelated but does anyone know the best MacBook Pro to tether my Sony a7r4 to using Capture One?
@nickdolding926 M3 Max does the job perfectly 👌 Failing that an M1 Macbook Air also runs C1 smoothly. Little bit of a price difference, but you don't really need anything too pimped running this combo. Hope that helped.
Is there a way to not let the iPad drain from the Sony camera battery? It seems like the iPad is charging my camera and my iPad goes dead after about 30 minutes from a full charge. And I’m using the newest iPad Pro 12.9 inch.
@stephenmcanulla1481 You could try this hub to attach external battery power - amzn.to/460ravM - I use iPad C1 mostly wireless so I have not had any issues as yet. Also, I think there is a USB setting in the camera where you can turn off USB charging. Let me know how you get on and I hope this was of some help.
@@SimonSonghurst thank you for the fast reply. I actually found that setting you’re talking about but it doesn’t seem to work. Even when I turn off the USB charging, it drains the battery, the same speed and it shows an icon on the camera that it’s being charged by the iPad. I don’t understand why. The wireless tether is cool, but I am wanting fast raw transfer so I can get as close to my final product look as possible in monitor. I may try that dongle you sent a link to. Thank you for that. I do love tethering to the Capture One mobile set up. Not sure I could ever go back. Lol
So there is no live view with capture one? That’s weird because Sony Edge app shows a live preview but that app runs only via Wi-Fi connection. What gives? How come live view works with a computer but not with an iPad Pro?
Hopefully live view is coming to the iPad version soon.
@@SimonSonghurstDo you know if the iPhone has live view and wifi tethering?
@@FireLiteCreationsyes it does, I use live view on my iPhone the same way it works with ipad
Which genration of ipad are you using?
M2 Pro 12.9
@@SimonSonghurst Thanks for leting me know, because this method was not working on ipad pro 12.9 (4th gen.)
Please provide cable brand, thanks for info)
@tethertools
Can I use an Android tablet? and what is the application for android?
Unfortunately not as yet. Hopefully they will support Android in the future.
I use lightroom though.
What Gen , this ipad is ?
It's the 2022 iPad Pro M2 12.9 Version. Hope that helps.
Does it work with an iPhone?
It sure does via USB-C
