Yeah, UEVR basically requires a lot of tweaking to get it into a "proper" state. But I do find it interesting how high the expectations was for a single universal mod that can be used in thousands of games, each programmed in different ways. When I tried it myself, I spent a couple of hours (but spread over many days of tweaking) to get the game "Snake Pass" into a state that I am satisfied with, from changing the scale of the world to how the camera moves when moving the stick up and down (so it pans up and down instead of rotating up and down), and can now fully play the game without feeling any kind of sickness and relatively little jank (I do have sturdy VR legs after the many hours of VR gaming, so take that as you will). I expect that MUCH more work needs to be done for Automation though since stuff like having a pointer show up in the game with tracked controllers is much more involved, and the graphical glitches where something only shows up properly in one eye is an entirely different beast since shaders can be made in many different ways. There are a few options to easily "fix" those glitches, but it basically destroys the performance of the game. But it shouldn't be too hard to fix the camera tilting issue to make it a little easier to view the cars in photo mode. I do highly recommend watching some videos that the mod developer made showing how it can be used to implement proper aiming or other things, even if you have no intent in doing so (this is more so to understand what is required from the user to get those features working). (Also BTW the link to the mod in the description is wrong. It is linking to VR mods for RE Engine games instead of the UEVR plugin)
I get that, I spent probably 5 hours making this video in total. I think the only thing that would make this better is if the camera was locked to horizontal, then I can move my head vertically if I need to
@@fillman86 I was able to fix that issue with another game I was experimenting with, Minecraft Dungeons. Normally the camera is a top-down view, but I was able to get the camera locked to the horizontal. There were some other game-breaking issues though which would cause crashing, so I decided to step back from fixing that game. I forget how I fixed the camera like that (I haven't used UEVR for a few months), and since I don't own Automation I am not sure if it can be fixed in a similar way. Have you messaged the person who originally showed it off in Discord? Cause maybe he was able to solve that issue (and maybe can share his profile for Automation). Anyway, it was fun to see you jump right in with the sharks! And is perfectly understandable if this is the last time you try to use UEVR. As some uncle from a dude who likes to swing around New York says, with great power comes great responsibility.
16:14 you can probably try doing a walk-around in Automation using "Walking Photo Scene Character" mod in a photo scene. Wonder how that will work with bootleg VR lol
i thought you were a real super duper smart developer but then i realized you are just a developer that you are just me without the confidence lmao. good video :D
In case you were wondering, I learned this while downloading games thru files (stalker anomaly) and what you do is create a new folder and place it in your exceptions thu the security tab if I remember correctly, so your computer won’t try and block it every time you open up whatever it is. And then download whatever you need and place it in the folder with exception
You said the BeamNG devs don't like you, but surely the chill af Automation devs do, especially Killrob! I bet even he approves of this video to troll the userbase ;)
Fillman when I was watching this video I remembered that you can make any engine. Make a very fast and powerful engine and make a drag pigeon and put the engine in the drag pigeon
Wait. since when Automation!? has vr? It's Not That bad.. But still, Not recommended To Play automation like That But It's pretty Cool to see vr in automation! Btw nice thumbnail btw
it's a cool idea, but it's no good in practice :/ I'd love to see the automation devs implement VR in a proper way, but I doubt they will because they're focusing on back end performance stuff currently
I'm pretty sure you need to make the VR controls mod yourself for automation with the UEVR plugin. I saw a different VR RUclipsr who made a VR controller mod for some hunting game, and they said it's basically a gateway mod, and other people need to mod controllers in based on how that game works.
Day 6 of commenting: You probably wont do it, but anyway. Here is a car Suggestion if you want: the Xiaomi su7. There are 3 variants of it, different in their Performance. I thought, that it would be a bit more of a Challenge if you would be able to switch modes in that car. But while driving, so you press a button and you can select between the Performance and the Suspension settings(like race mode with hard Suspension and comfort with soft ones). I thought Maybe 3 modes, and each mode should match the Performance of the 3 variants of the su7. Maybe you are interessted. Sorry for my bad Englisch, its not my native language. @@fillman86 yeah. Makes sense. Also makes sense since wired VR is better. If you end up going with some prescripted lenses, go reloptix. They're the best brand for VR prescriptions in general, and I have some of my own from them.
sometimes I get massive lag, so I just have to restart the game a few times, maybe restart my PC fully etc. Though if you down the resolution of the HMD, it tends to fix it first time every time (you can do this in SteamVR settings, or in the Mixed Reality Portal settings menu)

the problem is the tilt of the camera mostly. BeamNG just feels more like it's meant to be
