Should get accented cinema to recommend a film in the future, he has really good analysis and knowledge on Asian cinema, especially old and important films from China and Hong Kong.
Haha it’s like having a tag system with no AND condition. Law for me: must contain Christmas iconography. That’s it. Christmas in July movies count, “Don’t shoot me Santa Claus” counts… send recommendations!
YES! Including Pfeiffer and Grier on this list is a Christmas gift. I'm especially pleased to see Grier's inclusion. I still get misty eyed thinking of the scene where Max Cherry bails her out of jail, because he falls in love with her merely upon seeing her silhouette in darkness. If there is any woman on the planet whom the audience can fall in love with just in silhouette, it's Pam Grier.
Eve's Bayou is one of my favorite films to teach. Lemmons's directing is amazing, it's gorgeous to watch, the performances are perfect, and the ending always leaves students arguing. Thanks for highlighting this underrated classic!
"I guarantee this is the most fun you will have watching other people making each other miserable!" Made me laugh out loud!!! I will watch a few of these movies and then go and listen to your last year list of 24. THANKS! Especially for telling us where to find them.
What a great idea and a great list to sort through. "What's Up Doc" is one of my absolute favorites, and Madeline Kahn's debut is one for the record books. Just her "Howard, Howard Bannister, they have your rocks" can get me laughing.
This felt like watching a marvel movie where all the best heros come together, because literally these were pretty much all my favorite RUclipsrs. I love this. ♥️
One anti-Christmas movie that is overlooked is a great comedy, “Trading Places” with Dan Akroyd , Eddie Murphy, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy
Listennnn, the first time I watched 'what's up doc', I thought to myself, this is absolutely 100% a Christmas movie. It was lighthearted, full of slapstick and quirky romance honestly all the things you'd find in a classic holiday movie except, it doesn't happen around Christmas. I'm so glad someone else recognized its Christmas movie value too !!!!! You guys should totally watch if you haven't seen
Hell yeah, Mina Le! She chose Barbra Streisand. When I wondered which actress I should select if I were in this video, and I thought of Barbra Streisand too! Not what's up doc tho. I still need to watch that one. But Funny Girl 😍😍
Barbra Streisand’s “What Up Doc?” is still an amazingly hilarious, nonsensical comedy. It’s pure fun! Streisand, together with Ryan O’Neal and Madeline Kahn were so good together!!!
I am with my girl Melina pendulum on this one. Michelle Pfeiffer absolutely BODIED that role as Selina Kyle/ Catwoman. And since Catwoman is my all-time favorite comic book character point-blank, this is especially personal for me. Hands down, one of my favorite roles of any female actress in a film is Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. And to think that she originally was turned down for the role!
I remembered when Sean Young thought she was gonna be Catwoman because she got injured during production of Batman (1989), and she thought they were gonna make it up to her by casting her in Batman Returns. She showed up for a talk show in a cat cowl and a cape. :P I don't think she would've been bad, but Michelle Pfeiffer was so good in the role.
well she wasnt exactly turned down for the role. The story is that the role was meant for annette bening who was gonna be paid 1 million. Annette got pregnant so she couldnt do the movie. Then tim thought of michelle pfeiffer and she got paid 3 million! and yes, sean wanted to be catwoman so bad...
Well, the title wasn’t kidding, these are all of my favorite youtubers! Again, thank you for making a Christmas video that isn’t about Christmas movies
Jaymes Mansfield! My god based on those shots alone imma watch Suspiria tn, and I highly doubt it’ll disappoint! Thanks for a great list of new movies to watch
I’m the same about holiday movies, I like “It’s a Wonderful Life” (mainly cause I went to uni at Jimmy Stewart’s hometown, and watching it brings back memories of the cute little Main Street), but I like watching that movie anytime 💜
I don’t care for Christmas movies, either, so I’m extra appreciative of this video. Thank you all for putting this together. ❤️ Special thanks to Rowan for praising our Canadian queen Neve Campbell, and Princess for making me want to rewatch Burton’s Batman movies again (they were the perfect amount of camp for comic book adaptations imo). I will definitely check out Deathtrap, Summer Interlude, and Suspiria. Happy Holiday!
The Ceremony is interesting because the novel Judgement in Stone is told mostly from the POV of the maid/nanny character and shows how the adaptation process works by shifting emphasis towards the more external and flamboyant character from the more internalized one
So many of these performances are some of my favorites! I love Rita Moreno in West Side Story and Katharine Hepburn/Madeline Kahn in almost everything, and I am very excited that someone else has heard of and loves All I Wanna Do!
Batman Returns is up there with Coming To America and Big Business, Shawshank Redemption, and Overboard as movies I can just watch over and over and over and never get tired of them. Great pic. Also so excited to watch the teen film and say "up yours Roger with a zou zou wand" or whatever the catch phrase was ha ha!
Yes, The Summer Interlude (among other Bergman films) is must watch for me each year. His films just really grow on you. Also his female leads are one of the best! I once read that Bergman had affairs with most of his leading actresses at one point, and I think that really shows in the end products. I mean the raw power of drama in his films is solely grounded in trust of his actresses. Witch I personally think is pretty cool :)
"Christmas should be every five years, like a locust infestation or the blooming of a corpse flower," a friend once said. It's a holiday based largely on nostalgia and consumerism so i get the distaste. We want more control over our experience of and interfacing with something that is annually intrusive, loud, colorful, and swathed in cheap over-sentimentality. And that is my commentary on the first minute of the video. I'll watch the rest of it now. Pps. I LOVED your 12 Days of Actresses last year.
I LOVED All I Wanna Do in middle school I watched it over and over. I haven’t seen it since, thanks for reminding me how great it was! I’m looking for it now
I enjoyed this list very much ,and I do usually watch The Lion In Winter around the holidays, because while there is a lot of happy romance in films with the season, The Lion In Winter is more about the reality of the holidays too. Of course, I watch it beyond just the holidays, because for me, it's tied with The Philadelphia Story as my favorite Katharine Hepburn film.
I don’t care what anyone says, I love “It’s a wonderful life” and all it’s anti-capitalist glory, don’t care if it’s a Christmas movies, we need more movies where the greedy capitalist is the bad guy, Xmas or not. Also, I’m glad I’m not the only person in the world who thinks is “Jackie Brown” is Tarantino’s best movie.
I'm kinda sad about Jackie Brown. It's a masterclass of acting, but I noticed that it was the last movie QT did that felt like he was working with adults who knew how to act. Everything he did afterwards required fancy stuntwork and special effects. I wonder if that had to do with Jackie Brown not making as much money as originally predicted.
Weren't Frank Capra and Jimmy Stewart conservative libertarians? I know Stewart at least was a staunch Republican all his life. But hey, I still love the movie and death of the author, right?
Wow, there's so many people I love in this video !! And a few new ones that I will definitely check out ! Thank you for all these great holiday season recommandations, I love discovering great actress performances I didn't know about.
I love this eclectic list of both creators and movies. I loved your 25 Days of Actresses series last year, so when this popped up, I knew I was in for some great recommendations!
James Mansfield?!! I couldn't believe it when i saw her icon but... it makes sense. You girls have the same interest, wonderful invitees and recommendations!
Even though her starring role in Misery got her the Oscar, I would pick her titular role in Delores Claiborne (another Stephen King-penned narrative) for Kathy Bates for my anti-Christmas movie. There’s such a dynamic arc to her character that it easily allows for repeat viewings. Plus I love Jennifer Jason Lee as the angsty supporting role. Even though it was her typecast, this one is my favorite.
Kudos for including La Ceremonie! Under seen and underrated in the USA and one of Huppert’s best and most dynamic performances! And yes she is absolutely the greatest actress alive.
Funny. I was wondering whom I would choose and decided on Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman in ,Batman Returns' (1992), when she came up due to Melina: I screamed out of joy 😅 Such a nice video and Pam Grier in ,Jackie Brown' (1997) was also a hot contender for my pick, and she also popped up on this list thanks to Armchair Auteur 🙏🏼👍🏼💕 🐱 👸🏼👸🏾👩🏾✈️
At first I was sad bc I love your take on things, but then I got super excited bc it was people I already watch and people o didn’t but looked up right away. 🖤🖤🖤 Thank you.
Isabelle Huppert gave an absolutely stunning performance in “La Ceremonie” The same with Debi Morgan in “Eve’s Bayou” she also has the most adorable dimples 😊
Isabelle (who's my favourite actress, to be fair) on La Cérémonie is probably in the top 5 of my favourite supporting performances. She's incredibly dynamic for an actress known for icy and stoic characters (which, in all fairness, she excels at).
Haven't watched the video yet, just had to say, as soon as I saw the channel pictures for all of the collaborators, I clicked this video so fast. You have excellent taste in content creators! Very excited!!!
Yes! Thank you Your Highness Melina-Princess Weekes (I'd know that wonderful voice anywhere) for the Michelle Pfeiffer love - and especially her Catwoman! Batman 2 also works perfectly as a Christmas movie. Many great suggestions (Rita Moreno, Pam Grier so good!). Somehow I had missed that Dunst movie, must watch. And everybode should watch Lion in Winter at least once in their life!
seeing neve campbell’s name almost made me cry. i’ve idolized the scream films and sidney’s character since i was a kid and it’s so great seeing her get the recognition she deserves.
How on Earth have I never heard of “All I Want To Do”! Having some of my favourite actors of all time. I feel lost. Thank you for introducing me to this movie. I love the whole video because it has my top RUclipsrs. Thank you for this awesome Xmas gift.
Before even starting the video I see a bunch of creators that I know and love and am so psyched to see them and find other creators to love! Great picks BKR!
"Batman Returns", top five favorite movies ever. And "Jackie Brown" is my all time favorite movie! Nice. And your recommendation is one of my all time favorites that I've only seen once. OK, I'll join Criterion Collection.
Love this. I immediately thought of Sandrine Bonnaire in La Ceremonie when I began watching this video. Her and IH are great together. Sandrine is both realistic and very scary in that movie.
2:49 Mina Le, "What's Up, Doc?" (1972)
6:09 Jaymes Mansfield, "Suspiria" (1977)
8:05 Melina Pendulum, "Batman Returns" (1992)

27:48 Rowan Ellis, "Scream" (1996)

34:10 Broey Deschanel, "Deathtrap" (1982)
36:08 BKR, "La Ceremonie" (1995)
Should get accented cinema to recommend a film in the future, he has really good analysis and knowledge on Asian cinema, especially old and important films from China and Hong Kong.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for the timestamps 🥰🥰🥰
Michelle Pfeiffer is a great pick. If _Batman Returns_ were released today, her performance would receive Heath Ledger-level accolades.
As she should 💖💖💖
Very true.
Omg I love how Cary Grant’s advice was “Wear silk underpants.” 😂
I love the inclusion of Eve's Bayou at 21:54. It's such an iconic, underrated film.
A crossover between Mina Le, modernGurlz, broey deschanel Princess Weekes and bkr rewind? Best early Christmas present EVER! ❤️
I love how ‘Mommie Dearest’ is being considered as a Christmas Movie. It literally defies the law of Christmas Movies 😂
They could change the title to. Mommie dearest stole Christmas. 💔👣👊👯💂🕵👮💩💩💩👽😈👹😱🤔🤔🤔🤔🇫🇷 Arnuad Bourbon Amaral
I ~think~ it was on TCM Slumberground that: if there's a Christmas tree in the movie, it's a Christmas movie. I rather agree.
It’s a law that is made to be broken…by wire hangers and axes.
Haha it’s like having a tag system with no AND condition.
Law for me: must contain Christmas iconography.
That’s it. Christmas in July movies count, “Don’t shoot me Santa Claus” counts… send recommendations!
‘Scream’ made Cordless Phones a character in itself.

I literally walked out on a blind date because he said Jackie Brown was boring.

Every time I hear Madeline Kahn yelling "Don't you know the meaning of propriety?" to Barbra, my life gets better for 5 days
1000% agree about Jackie Brown. That final shot kills me every time.
Jaymes now can do no wrong in my book because she’s from Wisconsin too and we love Suspiria!!!!!!
Eves Bayou is a masterclass of acting and storytelling! I recently watched it, the music slaps! Take her word on this one yall! Love BKR!💕💖
I remember Journee from On our Own. That was a good show.
