I used these plastic cheap gears that you showed on the video and the Tascam did work for around one month and stopped again, I order the correct one for $38 on eBay and worked 100% better and the material is a lot better too.
That is amazing that you can buy a bag of gears and by some chance find two that work perfectly. Regardless I am having the gears made and they do not cost $65. Mine is the exact replacement for the original Gear C that cracks- in fact I just replaced one. It should also be mentioned that the old grease should be cleaned out as this is where the problems start from. I used to work at Teac. Re-grease with Lubriplate 105.

For me, 122 mk3 is the best deck and i can compare it because i have ZX9 nakamichi and Revox B215. Not only for sound beacause each deck have a personnal sound but imo, technically, 122mk3 is very well designed and easily repairable. Try to do that with a Dragon = good luck !

Hello! Can you help me? I Have a Tascam 122 mkiii, and it is having problems recognizing the tape. The Normal/CrO2/Metal lights blinks and takes a few seconds to select the correct tape. Some times, the cassette tape stops by it self because the tape is not recognized while playing... I have the deck with me for one year...
Hollo, cassette does not stop because of cr02 /normal circuit in any way, it stops because of a mechanical issue as a tape protection function, while regonizing cr02 /normal needs an osciloscop to check the signal from the head preamplfier to match cr02 circuit switching chip, thats you may not able to do it yourself if you are not engineer, good luck
I could not find the same lot of 64 pieces any more on ebay and I don't recommend you to buy a deferent gears that may not fit , but it stil your choice to try, good luck
